While Burnout Paradise has its brief time in the sun as the number one selling game in the UK earlier in March, last week we saw four major game releases. Xbox and Windows 10 exclusive, Sea of Thieves, managed to top the UK sales charts last week despite being available as part of the Xbox Game Pass, followed by co-op adventure, A Way Out and Level 5's Studio Ghibli inspired JRPG, Ni No Kuni 2.

The top ten selling games list from chart-track counts physical copies sold rather than digital. Sea of Thieves had the advantage of launching last Tuesday, giving it a few extra days to rack up sales over the course of the week. Meanwhile, Ni No Kuni 2 and A Way Out released on Thursday instead.

Here is the full top 10:

  • Sea of Thieves
  • A Way Out
  • Ni No Kuni 2
  • Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered
  • FIFA 18
  • Burnout Paradise Remastered
  • Grand Theft Auto 5
  • EA Sports UFC 3
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Super Mario Odyssey

As you can see, the top five is mostly dominated by new game releases, including Sea of Thieves, A Way Out, Ni No Kuni 2 and Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered. From there, we see strong performers like FIFA 18, GTA V, Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario Odyssey maintain positions on the list.

KitGuru Says: I managed to play some Sea of Thieves over the weekend with a full squad. It was certainly a good time, but mission variety is quite low and I can see the game being frustrating for smaller groups trying to sail around on smaller boats. Did any of you pick up a new game last week?

It seems that Level-5 has had another setback with its upcoming PC and PS4 title, Ni No Kuni 2. Originally pegged for release November 2017 and subsequently delayed until January, players will have to wait yet another two months as the new release date is set for March 23rd.

Level-5 issues a press release on the matter, detailing that the game doesn’t currently meet the standards that the studio pushes out and just needs some more time in the oven. Luckily, both the PlayStation 4 and PC version are still set to launch at the same time, contrary to many releases the past few years.

Don't worry, publisher Bandai Namco has confirmed that the final release will include both Japanese and English voice over.

“With innovation and new ideas comes the need to ensure everything works together in a fun and cohesive way,” Level-5 President Akihiro Hino said. “This means we'll need a bit more time to make sure the entire Ni no Kuni II experience meets our highest quality standards. So today, I would like to ask for everyone’s patience as we move Ni no Kuni II’s worldwide release date to March 23, 2018.”

Aside from the delay, Hino states that the project “is coming along very nicely” and that there are new gameplay elements to look forward to. “In an effort to constantly innovate, we’ve also implemented new modes in Ni no Kuni II, including the new Skirmish and Kingdom Modes.”

KitGuru Says: I still have a soft spot for Level-5’s roots as I’m a big Dark Cloud fan, so I trust the developer’s instincts. And since I won’t be getting another one of those games for a long while, if ever, I think I might just pick up Ni No Kuni 2. Are you interested in the title?

At E3 just last month, we heard that Ni No Kuni II would be releasing on PC and PS4 in November. Unfortunately, since then some things have changed, with the game's director today announcing that the release date had been pushed back to January 2018.

As far as delays go, this is on the lighter side, with the game now coming out just two months later than previously announced. In a video statement, Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom's director, Akihiro Hino said that “more development time is required in order to deliver” the full experience to fans.

Aside from that, Hino also had to backtrack a bit on a previous announcement of in-game multiplayer. As Polygon points out, previously Hino said in an official Bandai Namco interview that “there will be multiplayer, you will be able to play online with your friends in various capacities”. Unfortunately, that turns out to not be true at all.

As part of the new statement, the director clarifies that he was confused by the interview question: “I misunderstood the interview question, thinking it was asking about online content in general and my answer referred to online announcements of in-game events. As a result of this, I wrongly gave the impression that the game features multiplayer content”.

So, there is no multiplayer but there is a new release date. Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom will now be launching on the 18th of January 2018 on PC and PlayStation 4.

KitGuru Says: A two month delay is on the shorter end of the spectrum, so this news shouldn't sting fans too much. However, the lack of multiplayer is pretty disappointing considering how official the ‘announcement' of it seemed in June. Still, it should be expected, after all, JRPGs are generally single-player experiences.

It looks like PC gamers will soon be able to get their hands on another formerly console exclusive game this generation as this week it was announced that Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom will be heading to the PC platform on the same day as its PS4 release. The original Ni No Kuni garnered excellent reviews and became one of the PlayStation 3's most loved games last generation.

Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom is being developed by Level-5 Studios and while the original game was more of a traditional JRPG, this time around the developers are looking to add a few more ‘western' elements to the game to broaden its appeal.

The original Ni No Kuni was also created in collaboration with Studio Ghibli but the famous animation studio is currently taking a break. So, Level-5 will be continuing work on Ni No Kuni 2 without them, though Ghibli composer Joe Hisaishi and animator Yoshiyuki Momose are still involved with the project. This game will also feature a slightly different artistic style, with more of a 3D look than the original game.

Ni No Kuni 2 doesn't have a final release date just yet but it is expected to release some time this year, at which point it will be getting a worldwide simultaneous release on PS4 and PC.

KitGuru Says: Ni No Kuni was one of the few games I originally bought a PS3 for, though I was so late to the generation that I didn't end up getting around to it. With the sequel heading to PC, hopefully I'll finally be able to jump in, as long as the PC version is up to scratch.
