We may soon see AMD make some big announcements. As per the latest reports, the red team is planning to release its new Radeon RX 7900M flagship mobile GPU and the Threadripper Pro 7000 HEDT series in just two weeks, on October 19th.

According to Wccftech, AMD is planning to debut the Radeon RX 7900M mobile graphics card on October 19th, which matches the rumoured Threadripper Pro 7000 “Storm Peak” series release date.

AMD had already offered mobile SKUs based on the Navi 33 architecture with the RX 7600M/S series. Navi 32-based mobile GPUs have yet to be announced, but it seems we won't have to wait for the ones based on the Navi 31 GPU.

The rumoured RX 7900M will reportedly have 72 CUs, implying that it should feature a Navi 31 GPU. Considering this is a mobile GPU, AMD would probably pack the GPU in a smaller enclosure, as seen in the RX 7900 GRE. The 72 CU configuration is less than the RX 7900 GRE (80 CUs), RX 7900 XT (84 CUs), and RX 7900 XTX (96 CUs), setting the GPU's TGP at 160W (up to 200W with SmartShift). Older rumours suggested that the RX 7900M will have a 256-bit memory bus, implying a 16GB memory configuration.

As for the Threadripper Pro 7000 series, these will likely debut on systems based on both OEM and DIY motherboard designs that use the TRX50/WRX50 chipsets. This chipset is expected to be based on the same one used by the EPYC 9004 series, which means it can accommodate up to 96 Zen 4 cores, 128 PCIe Gen 5 lanes, and DDR5 memory.

According to leaked slides shared by Underfox, AMD claims its upcoming HEDT series will give a 20% performance gain over the previous generation and feature up to 96 cores. This release is predicted to not only have the greatest core count in the high-end desktop (HEDT) market but also the fastest Threadripper CPU, with a clock speed of 5.1GHz. To do this, AMD had to set the TDP of their new Storm Peak platform to 350W.

KitGuru says: The coming of the Radeon RX 7900M would certainly be welcome, giving those who want a high-end mobile GPU an alternative to Nvidia's solutions. The Threadripper Pro 7000 series would also bring variety to the HEDT market, as well as push the core count to 96 cores in this segment for the first time.

Intel is expected to begin talking about its 14th Gen Core desktop processors later this month. Typically, we see new unlocked K-series chips each year around October time and according to new reports, that trend will continue with plans to launch the first 14th Gen Core desktop processors on October 17th.

According to VideoCardz, Intel's new round of processors will become available in October, alongside launch-day reviews. Retailers planning to sell these chips will apparently get to reveal their listings one day before on the 16th of October.

It's worth noting that this release date applies exclusively to the K and KF-series processors, which include the Core i9-14900K/KF (24 cores), Core i7-14700K/KF (20 cores), and Core i5-14600K/KF (14 cores). All of them are unlocked 125W TDP chips, with non-K series variations with TDPs of 65W or lower likely to be officially announced next year around CES 2024.

Paradox Interactive and Nimble Giant Entertainment have recently announced that Star Trek: Infinite will be released on Mac and PC on October 12th. Players may now pre-order the game's standard or digital deluxe editions, with the latter including bonuses like skins, ships, and a unique voiceover.

Nimble Giant Entertainment will be posting the first in a series of Developer Diaries next week, delving further into the game and its development experience. Within this week, the developer will also launch a Discord server to share more details about the game, allowing fans to learn more ahead of the release.

Star Trek: Infinite is set decades before the events of Star Trek: The Next Generation. The game will give players a chance to determine the fate of the galaxy as a faction of their choosing. The grand strategy game puts players in command of one of four distinct Quadrant Powers: the United Federation of Planets, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassian Union, or the Klingon Empire. While keeping true to Star Trek canon, the game presents new paths for adventure by allowing players to explore the Alpha and Beta quadrants, oversee empire dynamics, deal with economic complexities, and interact with unknown civilizations.

Star Trek: Infinite has sophisticated strategic gameplay that lets you build your own Star Trek journey. Additionally, the game features mission trees, missions for smaller nations, espionage, and a diverse set of interfaces that put you in direct control of your faction. The game is now available to pre-order, and those who do so will get the following bonuses:

  • Lower Decks clothing choices
  • USS Cerritos, a scientific ship with specific options for small nations (Second Contact)
  • Klingon adviser voice line called “Qapla”

Furthermore, the game's Digital Deluxe Edition (DDE) contains a digital artbook, the game soundtrack, and an in-game music pack with legendary tunes from Star Trek's rich past.

October is set to be one of the busiest months of the year for game launches, with many titles both big and small planned to be released throughout the Halloween period. In order to get away from all the noise and find its own space in the video game release calendar, horror title Alone in the Dark has been pushed back by a few months, now arriving in early 2024.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Alone in the Dark page explained the delay, saying “Horror games thrive on the eerie embrace of solitude, something that is impossible to achieve in a gaming month as busy as October. To ensure a breathtaking experience for everyone, we have made the decision to move the release of #AloneInTheDark to January 16, 2024.”

Originally, this much-anticipated title was set to drop on the 25th of October, just in time for Halloween. As mentioned however, October will be a stacked month with some of the biggest games of the year coming out during this time.

Just some of the titles arriving next month include Assassin’s Creed Mirage (5th October); Forza Motorsport (10th October); Lords of the Fallen (13th October); Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (20th October); Super Mario Bros. Wonder (20th October); Cities: Skylines 2 (24th October) and Alan Wake II (27th October).

While it would have been appropriate for a horror game such as Alone in the Dark to launch around Halloween, it would have undoubtedly been overshadowed somewhat by the many other aforementioned titles.

Furthermore, horror games have found great success in the past during January, with the likes of Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and RE2 Remake both releasing during the first month of the year. Hopefully this delay will benefit not only the game’s quality, but also its sales success.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the team at Remedy Entertainment said “An update from the Alan Wake 2 team: we're moving Alan Wake 2's launch from October 17 to October 27. October is an amazing month for game launches and we hope this date shift gives more space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games. Intel typically makes new desktop processors available in around October/November. That tradition will continue this year with the upcoming Intel 14th Gen Core processors, which are expected to become available in mid-October.

With the 14th Gen Core series, we are expecting to see a refresh of the Raptor Lake CPU lineup with higher clock speeds. According to a report from ECSM (via VideoCardz), the launch schedule for the refreshed CPUs will follow the usual pattern of splitting Core-K and non-K models. The non-K models are expected to be released in the first week of 2024, while K models will be available starting in October, the report suggests a date between October 17th and the 23rd.

As these processors will still use the Raptor Lake architecture, they should be compatible with all existing LGA1700 motherboards that have the latest BIOS, with the possible exception of the Core i7-14700K processor. That's because the CPU is said to feature a core configuration that has never been seen on any other Intel CPU. As per the rumours, the upcoming processor will pack 8 P-cores and 12 E-cores. If so, it might require new firmware to run on older LGA1700-based boards.

ECSM also mentions the next-generation desktop platform called Arrow Lake. With Arrow Lake, Intel will introduce new chipset designs and a different socket in late 2024/early 2025.

Recent rumours indicated that AMD would launch the Radeon RX 6600 series of graphics cards in August, but other sources have contradicted this claim. According to another prominent leaker, AMD will be launching the Radeon RX 6600 between September and October, followed by the first Navi 24 GPUs at the end of the year.

According to Coreteks, a prominent AMD leaker with a pretty good track record, we'll be seeing the Radeon RX 6600 in late Q3 or early Q4 2021. However, the Radeon RX 6600 XT was not mentioned, so that graphics card could still launch in August.

The AMD Radeon RX 6600 should feature a Navi 23 GPU with 1792 stream processors enabled and 32MB Infinity Cache. Rumours suggest that there will be an 8GB and a 4GB model, both using GDDR6 memory clocked at 16Gbps and a 128-bit memory bus.

As for the first Navi 24 graphics cards, these should be coming by the “end of this year”. Navi 24 GPU will likely power the Radeon RX 6500 series, succeeding the entry-level RX 5500 graphics cards.

With more than 80,000 comic/cosplay enthusiasts expected through the doors at London's Excel before the end of Sunday 27th October 2013, this staggering audience begs one question: What can you do at the show?  KitGuru photographs some posters and makes some lists. You know. Just in case they are helpful.

We're not going to try (too hard) to be entertaining in this article. This is ‘for information only'. Kind of. If you turn up at the London Excel, here are some of the cool things that you will be able to engage in:-

Over on the Nintendo stand, there were loads of new games on show. Play at least 2 and you get double stamps on your ‘Swag Wheel' card, which guarantees you a prize!

The main stage is set at the back of a huge hall – filled with seats – and there won't be a single space free by Saturday night. In between cosplay competitions and the like, the projectors show rare/previously unseen shows. Example?  The Tomorrow People.

But there is more than one ‘main hall' and here's a snapshot of the ‘menu' from the second:-

So, as you can see, plenty of action all round - as well as some of the coolest specialist stalls you will ever see.

Once the preserve of withdrawn kids who just wanted to escape to new horizons without leaving the comfort of their own imaginations, comics have become big business. Here in the UK, it doesn't get much bigger than MCM Comic Con 2013 at the London Excel centre. KitGuru hides in the shadows to see what's what.

We managed to speak with the wonderful Gillian, one of the show's organisers, and got the low down while touring several massive halls – filled with all things comic/cosplay.

Here's a quick overview of the event that might surprise you. We started off with the question that's foremost on everyone's mind: How big is it?

“Back in May, we had close to 77,000 people visit the show”, said Gillian. “This time round, we're going to sail past that number – and there's no sign of it stopping any time soon”.

So what is it all about?

“It is a complete celebration of everything to do with comics, characters and costume play”, she explained. “People absolutely love it”.

While some folks were happy to put a box on their heads - cosplay can get very serious. We have to thank the lady Cats for these memories.

.
We have to ask Gillian about the vibe, which is completely unique.

“You will find a really warm, welcoming and accepting atmosphere here”, she explained. “It's like no other show around, people are so relaxed. They literally pin this in their calendar and spend half the year building anticipation”.

The show is on at the London Excel show until the end of the weekend and you can now only buy tickets on the door.

KitGuru says: If you have any interest in comics, cosplay, reliving some of the best moments your imagination ever produced or you just fancy ‘something different', we can recommend Comic Con 2013.

The best football teams in the world not only play their own game, they also mark the opposition off the pitch – preventing them from playing THEIR game. While Apple's initial plan was to push the iPad Mini into stores for 12th December, that date has moved ahead of announcements from Amazon and Microsoft. KitGuru takes 3 tablets.

While phone screens are too small to share, the present iPad ‘3' design is too big to hold in both hands and type with your thumbs. Steve Jobs was unconvinced that there was a market for a smaller iPad, but with Apple's founder dead and buried for a year – the company's new bosses are looking at the market and deciding that, maybe, the old man was wrong.

Although Microsoft should provide a threat with Surface, its lack of content provision means that it barely registers as a threat for Apple's board. Amazon, on the other hand, is a completely different animal – with a vast array of post-hardware-sell-ins available.

Initially, Apple was going to launch the iPad Mini on 12th December around the £190 mark. Now, having seen the Kindle Fire preparations – as well as the huge sell through on iPhone 5 – Apple has decided to (a) announce the new product next week in order to completely steal Amazon's fire – with full scale production ramping up ahead of an in-store launch for the second week in November.

Pricing will now be closer to £239.

Although the info we have seen indicates that the product will be Wi-Fi only, the advent of brand new 4G and hugely improved 3G means that if Apple did decide on phone connectability, buying from the App Store and iTunes would be a very easy/cool experience.

Can the iPad Mini prove appealing enough at £230 to make people NOT want to spend the additional money for an iPad 2 or go with an iPhone 5 contract?

KitGuru says:Any children with parents whose combined annual salary passes £50k will be in danger of getting one of these for Xmas. But can Apple make an argument for a product that, effectively, splits the ‘free' iPhone 5 (on contract with a SIM) and a brand new iPad 2 for £329. We're going out on a limb to say that this new market is not that big, but that the iPad Mini will provide ample ‘blocking' against the Surface and Fire assaults of its rivals.
