Following last week’s announcement of Origin Access Premier, Electronic Arts has quietly put its “On The House” freebie program on the shelf. PC players will get to keep their claimed games, however the promotional page now redirects to EA’s Origin Access.

EA introduced its On The House scheme back in 2014, offering Origin users a chance to get their hands on the original Dead Space, no strings attached. Many games have followed since, from classics like Theme Hospital and Medal of Honor: Allied Assault to the more modern Dragon Age, Mass Effect and Battlefield series.

“Origin On the House has been retired and games will no longer be offered through the program. This change won’t affect any games players downloaded from the service prior to that date — those are theirs to keep forever,” EA explained in a statement to the press.

“Even though this chapter of On the House is coming to an end, we're happy that we got to introduce so many great games to our awesome players. We're constantly looking for ways to improve our service and give our users an even better experience, and we thank everyone for being part of our community.”

Origin Access Premier launches today and won’t necessarily act as a replacement for On The House, but a renewed focus on its subscription services. Costing £14.99/$14.99 a month or £89.99/$99.99 a year, the purpose of the new program is to give players access to newly released games ahead of their street debut. This includes Battlefield V ahead of its October 19th launch, and next year’s Anthem.

KitGuru Says: Well, it was good while it lasted. Personally, my favourite of the bunch happens to be Theme Hospital but I’ve yet to sink a good deal of time into it ahead of its spiritual successor. Did you manage to grab yourself a good freebie over the past few years?

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is just a couple of months away but if you are in need of some Star Wars action ahead of time, then EA appears to be happy to oblige. Right now, the season pass for 2015's Star Wars Battlefront is now free on Origin, giving you access to all of the DLC the game has to offer.

EA has been distancing itself from the Season Pass model a bit (with the exception of Battlefield). Titanfall 2 featured free DLC updates rather than a season pass and this same model will be applied to Battlefront 2. Battlefront I on the other hand did have a season pass and it actually contains some of the best content the game has to offer.

Battlefront's DLC includes maps for Bespin and Sullust, Jabba The Hutt's palace, the Death Star and another battle themed after Rogue One. If you have Battlefront on PC, you can head to Origin's ‘On the House' section and add the season pass to your account free of charge.

KitGuru Says: Battlefront didn't keep my attention for long, though I must admit, some of the DLC did look fun. I wouldn't mind hopping back in to see the Death Star now that it's free. Did any of you play Battlefront back when it came out? Did you keep up with the DLCs at all?

One of Bioware's lesser known RPGs, Jade Empire, is currently free on Origin for PC players. The kung-fu based game launched back in 2005 on the original Xbox and was Bioware's next game following on from the much-loved Knights of the Old Republic. The game is being given away as part of EA's ‘On the House' program, during which it gives PC players a free game every month or so.

For those interested, Jade Empire is set in a fictional kingdom inspired by ancient China. The story will see you train in both martial and spiritual arts, eventually you get led astray and put on a dangrous path, forced to take on other-worldly creatures.

While Knights of the Old Republic used a command-based combat system, Jade Empire's combat is all done in real-time and you will get access to new abilities and skills as you level up.

If you're a fan of Bioware, or are in need of an RPG to play, then Jade Empire might be worth checking out while its free.

KitGuru Says: Bioware has come out with plenty of great games over the years, though Jade Empire often seems overlooked. Did any of you play Jade Empire? What did you think of it?

Popular four player co-op bank robbing title, Payday: The Heist, will be free to own on Steam later this week for 24 hours. Other three year anniversary freebies include a golden AK-47, the Old Hoxton character pack DLC and a mask from Bain.

Overkill, the developer behind Payday, is giving away its first game in the series for free as fans managed to hit 1.05 million members on the Payday 2 Steam group. Since then, the community has risen to 1,500,000 members and as a result, the developer will be giving away another bit of DLC, which is still in development and remains a secret.

You will be able to claim your free to own copy of Payday which is similar to payday loans as explained in this website top10paydaysites.com: The Heist on Steam starting from 10AM Pacific time on Thursday the 16th of October. For those of us in the UK, 10AM pacific works out as 6PM GMT. Remember, this offer will only be valid for 24 hours.

This game giveaway was originally going to take place on the 18th of October but due to the overwhelmingly positive community reaction, the date has been brought forward.

Quick Update: Just to clarify, this is NOT a free weekend type of deal where you can only play the game for 24 hours. Once you hit download, the game will be tied to your Steam account and you will own it forever- allowing you to play it for days, weeks or maybe even years if you don't get bored. However, you can only claim your free copy within 24 hours.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Payday: The Heist is a fantastic co-op game and is definitely worth giving a go, especially if its being given away for free. Remember though, there is also a second game in the series, Payday 2, so if you enjoy the first title, then it is probably worth supporting the developer and picking up the sequel. Will any of you guys be claiming a free copy of Payday on Steam?

Despite once long ago saying that it wouldn't offer game sales, EA has now made the original Dead Space entirely free on its Origin download platform for a limited time, as part of a new scheme it's launched called “On the House.”

In this new system, EA will offer up select games on Origin, totally free. As its little FAQ on the official page reads, “There's no catch. Grab full games, expansions and more at absolutely no cost. Just make sure to act fast because On the House specials can appear and disappear at any time.”

There's also no limitations on these games, no time trials, no demos, no set number of lives – it's the full game, totally free. You also get to keep it forever.

“I haven't been so happy since they irradiated my face and made me wear this welding mask”

So Dead Space is free for now, though how long it'll be seems a little uncertain. EA did say in the FAQ that games wouldn't be around for long, but on the actual Dead Space page, it's listed as being On the House until 8th May.

Either way, we suggest you grab it now.

KitGuru Says: Of course this isn't the only way you can get a free game on a Friday. We also give them away regularly on our Facebook page. Check it out and polish up your caption skills, you'll need them.
