We've been hearing a lot about the OnePlus 7 Pro over the last few weeks, and today the phone was officially announced with three simultaneous launch events held in London, New York and Bangalore. Unsurprisingly, it turns out the leaks were very accurate.

That means the OnePlus 7 Pro sports a large 6.67in OLED display, with an all-new 90Hz refresh rate. On top of that, it's also now a curved screen – similar to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S series – with a 3120×1440 QHD+ resolution and even HDR10+ support.

The design is also very sleek, with absolutely tiny bezels around the front display, and a large part of that is due to the new selfie camera and speaker positioning. The earpiece sits in a tiny cut-out just above the top of the display, but most eye-catching is the front selfie camera which pops out of the top edge of the phone via a sliding mechanism.

OnePlus says this mechanism has been tested over 300,000 times, so you could theoretically open and close it 150 times a day for over 5 years. Whether or not that will hold up for everyday usage is another thing, but it's a very cool concept nonetheless.

Speaking of cameras, the triple-camera configuration we'd heard about previously is exactly what we get. This means there are three sensors on the back of the phone – 48MP, 16MP and 8MP. The 48MP camera is the primary one, with a f/1.6 aperture lens and OIS. The 16MP camera is an ultra-wide with a f/2.2 lens and 117 degree field of view, while the 8MP camera is a 74mm telephoto with a f/2.4 aperture.

Other specs include the Snapdragon 855 processor as expected, alongside 6/8/12GB RAM. The battery has also received a big bump, with a new 4000mAh capacity, while OnePlus' new fast-charging standard, Warp Charge 30, should give a 50% charge in just 20 minutes. As we've known for a while, though, there is no support for wireless charging.

In the UK, there will be three different OnePlus 7 Pro configurations available, with prices coming in at £649 for the 6GB/128GB model, £699 for the 8GB/256GB version, and then £799 for the top-end 12GB/256GB model. Availability will be from 21st May.

KitGuru says: Will anyone be picking up the new OnePlus 7 Pro? On paper it looks a great phone and it will be interesting to see how popular it becomes with the wider market.

OnePlus has been hard at work with its upcoming flagship smartphones set to debut May 14, with CEO Pete Lau drumming up excitement for the company’s display technology in particular. The OnePlus 7 Pro has already topped expectations, receiving an A+ certification from video diagnostic experts at DisplayMate.

Rumours surrounding the OnePlus 7 Pro have pointed towards a sharp 6.7-inch edge-to-edge Super AMOLED display, potentially reaching as high as 90Hz. This is said to be backed by QHD resolution, which would mark the first time that OnePlus has endowed a device with something beyond Full HD.

Whether this is true or not remains to be seen, but the price point of the premium device has been speculated to be the same as the Samsung Galaxy S10. For that reason alone, many are expecting a screen that can also rival the South Korean competitor – a wish that might just come to fruition thanks to OnePlus spending three times the amount on displays compared to its predecessors.

OnePlus has already boasted better colour accuracy, brightness, contrast and pixel density for its upcoming range of devices, as well as accreditation from the VDE Testing and Certification Institute for its ability to filter blue light. Using professional instruments and mathematical analysis to gauge performance, DisplayMate has now added an A+ display rating to the OnePlus 7 Pro.

While the details surround the display are unconfirmed at this time, OnePlus has revealed that the OnePlus 7 Pro will house a triple rear camera setup. We will find out more on May 14, when the company releases its OnePlus 7 line-up.

KitGuru Says: It’s always interesting to see OnePlus disrupt the market with its price-to-performance offerings, and this year will be even more exciting with multiple models. Are you considering an upgrade in 2019?

OnePlus will be releasing its next flagship smartphone very soon. As usual, we have had a bunch of leaks to verify certain things prior to the official announcement but now, OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, is also speaking openly about plans for the OnePlus 7 and also the OnePlus 7 Pro, which will be a higher-end device with more powerful hardware.

While the OnePlus 7 will continue the tradition of offering ‘flagship performance' at a lower cost, the Pro version will likely match the Galaxy S10 in price. We don't know the specific differences between the two devices just yet, but speaking with The Verge, Lau did start hyping up some of the features that they will have in common. For starters, Lau says that for the OnePlus 7, the company has spent three times as much on the display compared to usual. He also promises that it will “redefine fast and smooth” essentially confirming that it will be high refresh rate. Possibly 90Hz according to some leaks, although the Razer Phone has managed 120Hz, so it will be interesting to see if OnePlus can match that.

One of the features that puts the OnePlus 7 Pro over the edge is the inclusion of 5G support, which won't appear on the base model. However, given how limited 5G network availability is at this moment in time, don't expect this feature to be marketed too heavily.

Following in the footsteps of Samsung with its ‘Infinity Display' or Apple with its new OLED screens, the biggest feature OnePlus will be touting this year is its screen. The official announcement shouldn't be too far off, so we'll likely hear much more on that front soon.

KitGuru Says: I've always enjoyed checking out what OnePlus has to offer each year. Are any of you planning a smartphone upgrade in 2019? Will you be waiting to see the OnePlus 7 in action?

Leaks surrounding the OnePlus 7 series have ramped up over the past week, painting a vivid picture of the upcoming ‘flagship killers’. It doesn’t seem as though the rumour mill is slowing down however, as even more information has come to light surrounding the Pro model.

While it is believed that the OnePlus 7 Pro will debut with a 6.67-inch display, leaker Ishan Agarwal cites that the Super AMOLED panel will run at 90Hz. This isn’t quite as high as the Razer Phone 2’s 120Hz screen, but it is catered to gaming more than the usual 60Hz found on the majority of smartphones out there.

The OnePlus 7 range is unsurprisingly pegged to use a USB 3.1 connector, with a 30W Warp Charger to quickly power the Pro’s 4,000mAh battery. Interestingly, this could mean that the Pro might have a smaller battery than the standard model, with previous leaks suggesting that the OnePlus 7 would contain a 4,150mAh power cell. It’s likely that some of the leaks and rumours are simply wrong, but this might be something to look out for.

Agarwal also reveals that OnePlus has been hard at work on its internal vibration motor, helping to provide new and better haptic feedback than its predecessors. At this point in time, it’s uncertain whether this will be across all models or just the Pro version that Agarwal is focusing on in his Twitter thread.

Similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event, OnePlus is reportedly looking at a simultaneous release event that takes place in multiple parts of the world. Agarwal states that this might be conducted in New York, the UK (presumably London) and Bangalore.

As always, take the leaks with a pinch of salt ahead of the rumoured May 14 launch event.

KitGuru Says: OnePlus has always had intriguing designs that have regularly undercut flagships without skimping too much on its range of features. Here’s hoping that the OnePlus 7 series is no exception, whether these rumours are true or not. Are you excited for the upcoming ‘flagship killers’?
