Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty has been a huge success so far, with the new content, combined with all of the gameplay changes found in Update 2.0, earning CD Projekt Red its redemption moment following the base game's rocky launch. However, as we heard previously, CD Projekt Red does not have plans to continue working on RED Engine games, something that the studio reaffirmed this week.

Cyberpunk 2077 director, Gabe Amatangelo, told PCGamer this week that “2.0 and Phantom Liberty are the last big updates” for the game. There will still be some additional patches to fix up any remaining issues. However, the bulk of the work on Cyberpunk 2077 is now finished and it will be CD Projekt Red's last RED Engine project for the foreseeable future.

Moving forward, CD Projekt Red is switching over to Unreal Engine 5 for a new Cyberpunk game and a new set of Witcher titles. While Cyberpunk 2077 did eventually turn out to be as good as we'd all hoped, the game's development was plagued with issues, in part due to the use of in-house proprietary engine technology and having to develop tools alongside the game. By switching to Unreal Engine, CD Projekt Red can get direct support from Epic Games, and it greatly increases the odds of hiring developers familiar with the tools being used to make the game.

A second Cyberpunk game is being developed at a new CD Projekt Red studio based in the US, codenamed as Project Orion.

KitGuru Says: While it is a shame that we won't be getting any more content in Night City for the next while, the game we do have at this point is every bit as good as I wanted it to be initially.

For years now, Facebook has been making efforts to branch out beyond social networking. At one point in time, the company tried to topple the smartphone market with its own phone, which swiftly failed. Nowadays, Facebook owns Oculus and is enjoying success in the VR space and now the next step appears to be augmented reality hardware.

Apple, Microsoft, Google and other tech giants are also working on AR technology. Microsoft and Google in particular took two very different approaches, with the former creating a full AR headset and the latter opting to develop ‘Smart Glasses’. Facebook will be following Google’s approach, opting to create glasses with a built in display and the ability to do many of the same functions we normally use a smartphone for today.

Image: Google Glass Enterprise Edition. Used for illustration purposes only- Facebook's glasses likely won't look like this.

According to sources speaking with CNBC, Facebook’s AR glasses are being made in partnership with Ray-Ban and are codenamed ‘Orion’. The project apparently aims to ‘replace smartphones’ by creating a wearable AR device that can take calls, show relevant notifications to users, film point-of-view video and features its own digital assistant for voice commands.

Not all interaction will be delivered through the glasses though, Facebook is apparently considering a touch-sensitive ring that will act as a controller. For now, the project is still under wraps and in development with no guaranteed release. However, Zuckerburg apparently does want to start shipping these between 2023 and 2025.

KitGuru Says: Replacing smartphones with Augmented Reality glasses is an ambitious goal but it doesn’t seem like we’ll get to that point any time soon. In the meantime, Facebook is going to be trying to figure it out anyway, although there is also the chance that this project never makes it all the way to the consumer market.

Today in the heart of NYC, Acer rounded up journalists to launch a slew of new products, from gaming peripherals and laptops, to full desktop systems and monitors. In this article, we'll be going over the launch of the Predator Orion 5000 desktop PC and the new Predator Large Format Gaming Display, delivering 4K/144Hz in a larger size compared to your typical monitor.

First up is the Predator Orion 5000, a mid-tower pre-built desktop system. It sits on the higher end of the spectrum with a $1,999.99 USD or €1,999.99 MSRP. Under the hood, you'll find an Intel Core i9-9900K CPU, a Z390 motherboard and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080. Depending on budget, you'll be able to add in more RAM (up to 64GB in dual-channel), and while this isn't confirmed, we assume storage upgrade options will also be available.

The chassis used for this system has been trimmed down to just 30 litres, making it smaller than the previous generation Orion desktop. Cooling has also seen an upgrade from an air cooler to a Cooler Master all-in-one liquid cooler. This also opens the door for safer overclocking on the Core i9-9900K as temperatures will be kept in check better.

As you would expect from a modern system, RGB lighting is included.

The second announcement today is (in my opinion) a little more exciting. At CES last year, Nvidia launched the Big Format Gaming Display (BFGD) initiative, delivering 4K/144Hz in a massive 65-inch panel. Acer had its own BFGD on show at the time but now, the 65-inch model is getting a cheaper, smaller brother in the form of the Predator CG437K P LFGD (Large Format Gaming Display).

This is a 43-inch 4K/144Hz panel complete with DisplayHDR 1000 certification and AdaptiveSync. So you'll be getting a much bigger display, Ultra-HD resolution, the best HDR implementation currently available on PC and a high refresh rate for competitive gaming.

The panel used here is VA and covers 90 percent of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. The DisplayHDR 1000 certification means that it has a peak brightness of 1,000 nits, so HDR movies and games will look vibrant, with popping colours and deeper black levels.

Since this is such a large monitor, you may want to plug in multiple devices and use it like a TV. In that case, there are three HDMI ports, a DisplayPort connection and a USB Type-C port.

Other features include a light sensor that can adjust brightness based on lighting in the room, and a proximity sensor that will wake the display up from standby when you sit in front of the monitor.

The Predator CG437K P LFGD will be available in the US and EU from September with a $1,299 or €1,499 price tag.

KitGuru Says: The Orion desktop system seems to have a sensible array of hardware but the new monitor is what really has me excited. With that said, I'll likely be sticking to 1440p for now while GPUs catch up to the demands of 4K at high frame rates. What do you guys think of the new Predator lineup so far?

Most of us have a chassis under/on the desk with a single PC inside that costs less than £2,000.  As one of the most successful overclockers the world, 8PACK doesn't do what most of us do! His mission in life is to push the boundaries of what's possible. At the Insomnia i60 gaming festival this weekend, over 40,000 visitors will have the chance to see what a £30,000 PC looks like.

The actual specification on show weighs in at £25,000 (details in the video) and OcUK claim that it's the most powerful production gaming PC on offer in the world today, Complete with a unique dual-system liquid cooling topology. Impressive stuff.

We asked Overclocker's resident magic man, Steven Levitt, to get the details from 8PACK as well as showing us OcUK's latest affordable line up – PLUS a specially modded machine created for Corsair partner, BoMenzzz, which tests the limits on how much pink can be packed into a single PC.

Here are some shots of the stand, rigs and other cool stuff!

We mentioned this one was pink, right?

When they weren't busy designing pink PCs, Corsair provided plenty of hands-on experience stations – to give i60 visitors the chance to ‘try before you buy' your next keyboard, mouse and headset.

Finally, there were plenty of discount deals to be had – for example on MSI gaming laptops (more about this in a follow up report!).

KitGuru says: i60 has been one of the best Insomnia events ever with a huge crowd and plenty to see/do. The event will run for the whole of Monday this time – which means anyone with access to the NEC has until 5pm on Bank Holiday Monday (17th)  to get down there!

Although the big VR makers are working on hand-tracked controllers to allow us to bring our limbs into virtual worlds with us, Leap Motion has been developing a camera based solution and it's had some success over the past couple of years. The recent Orion update could be the biggest yet though, as it's made the tracking much more accurate and intuitive.

Shown off in a demonstration video with a simplistic building title, a developer uses two hands with intricate finger tracking, to pull objects out of thin air, reconstruct them, throw them – all with detailed gesture controls. Fingers and thumbs are tracked on both hands, with multiple joints per digit.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnlCGw-0R8g']

What's most exciting about this release though, is that it's software based. Major improvements have been made to tracking and latency, making the Leap Motion tracker far better at keeping an eye on lots of minute motions you make, opening up a lot of exciting possibilities for games and applications; and it's all possible on the original hardware.

“Orion software represents a paradigm shift in how we do hand tracking,” says David Holtz, Leap Motion’s co-founder and CTO (via UploadVR). “It’s built from the ground up specifically for VR. It’s radically smoother, faster, more reliable, and far more capable than even the best of what’s existed before.”

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HnfG0a6Gfg']

Even putting your fingers outside of the camera's range can work quite well, as the software is able to predict where they should be based on the orientation of your appendages within the field of view.

Of course there are still difficulties with Leap Motion, such as the lack of haptic feedback in any sense – as you are quite literally patting the air when using it. However it's clearly quite an effective system and opens up alternatives for those wanting motion-tracking before Oculus releases its Touch controllers in the latter half of 2016.

You can buy a leap motion on Amazon right now for under £40 too.

KitGuru Says: Leap Motion is certainly impressive and has applications way beyond VR. Gesture controls this intimate could make for some very interesting possibilities elsewhere. What do you think it could be used for?

While the shuttle project might be dead and it might be a few years yet until a new US based launch vehicle is ready to go, this hasn't stopped NASA recruiting its next generation of astronauts, picking eight individuals who will become trainees at the organisation, hoping to one day be selected for missions into the cosmos.

Selected from a collection of over 6,000 individuals, these eight people – four men and four women – are as follows: Josh Cassada (physicist), Victor Glover (Lt. Commander in US Navy), Tyler Hague (Lt. Colonel in US Air Force), Christina Hammock (National Oceanographic Administration station chief), Nicole Mann (US Marine Corps), Ann McClain (US Army helicopter pilot), Jessica Meir (Assistant professor of anesthesia at Harvard) and Andrew Morgan (Major in US Army).

The US designed Orion spacecraft, isn't expected to be used for manned missions until after 2020

“These new space explorers asked to join Nasa because they know we're doing big, bold things here, developing missions to go farther into space than ever before,” said Nasa Administrator Charles Bolden (via Wired). “They're excited about the science we're doing on the International Space Station and our plan to launch from US soil to there on spacecraft built by American companies. And they're ready to help lead the first human mission to an asteroid and then on to Mars.”

The eight will now begin a long training process that will push them physically and mentally, preparing them for practice missions in low-Earth orbit, before potentially sending them out using the in development Orion spacecraft sometime in the next decade.

KitGuru Says: No complaints here. Good luck to the eight – good to see a nice spread of gender too.
