Back in November last year, Sony announced that it would soon be allowing PC owners to stream games from the PlayStation 4 console using the Remote Play feature. Now, that functionality is finally arriving and will be included in the upcoming V3.50 update for the PS4.

This will allow PS4 owners to stream their games over their home networks and to a PC, similarly to what you can already do with the PlayStation Vita. Microsoft also offers a similar streaming feature though it is limited to Windows 10 within the official Xbox App.

PlayStation-4-Controller-600x337-1

There isn't an exact date yet for the PS4 V3.50 update but it will begin beta testing some of the features this month (not including PC remote play). Other features coming in this update include the ability to be notified when a friend comes online and the ability to ‘appear offline' on the PlayStation Network.

Party chat will be getting some better support with the ability to see what each person is playing. Users will also be able to join other players in the party. The final feature set to come is an update to the PS4 ‘Share' feature which will now let you stream to DailyMotion.

KitGuru Says: I just bought a PlayStation 4 over the weekend to play some exclusive titles like Until Dawn, Bloodborne and Uncharted so I'll be interested to see how Remote Play works when it arrives. Do any of you own a PS4 and a gaming PC? Would you like to be able to stream between the two?

Valve's Steam Machine dream may have died down a bit but that doesn't mean that it has given up on the idea of bringing PC gaming to the living room entirely. We've been following the Steam controller throughout its development for some time now and a while back, Valve also announced the Steam Link, its own tiny streaming box capable of streaming your Steam library to another room in the house.

Now, pre-orders are live for Valve's first foray in to the hardware game with the Steam controller and Steam Link. GAME UK has its first batch up, although for some reason, they only appear to be selling bundles, rather than giving customers the option to just buy a controller or just buy a Link.

Steam Link

GAME has the UK exclusive on the Link and controller as well so this is more or less what you are stuck with. The cheapest bundle sits at £60, getting you a £20 Steam wallet code and a controller. For £90 you get the controller and a £50 Steam code and for £140 you get a £100 Steam code and the controller.

If you do want the Steam Link streaming box, then you will need to spend at least £99.99, which nets you the Steam Link, the controller and a £20 Steam code. The next bundle includes the Link, controller and a £50 Steam code and the final bundle, coming in at £179.99 will get you a £100 Steam wallet code, the Link and the controller.

We do not yet know if GAME will begin selling the Steam Link or controller separately, nor doe we know if the devices will become available at more retail stores. You can view all of the bundles, HERE. Those who buy-in early will get their orders on the 16th of October while general release doesn't land until the 10th of November.

KitGuru Says: I do find it a bit disappointing that you can't buy the Steam Link or controller separately without being roped in to wallet codes, I think that may put a few people off. That said, I'm still interested in testing the Steam Link for myself and finally getting my hands on that crazy controller Valve have designed.

NZXT is now targeting PC gaming in the living room thanks to its new PC game streaming box, the DOKO. The micro-console was announced today and will stream desktop titles to your TV at full 1080p resolution for $99.

The box isn't only intended for gamers though, it is capable of mirroring your desktop for other tasks, such as media streaming and office software- things that Razer's recently announced Forge TV can't do, as well as Steam in-home streaming.

DOKO

The DOKO isn't too expensive, coming in at $100. By utilizing a wired Ethernet connection, gamers can expect to experience 50-80ms latency, you will also be able to stream at 1080p and 30 frames per second.

NZXT's big focus with this device is to free users of the restrictions that current PC streaming devices face. You will be able to play any game in your library, run any application and even plugging USB devices in to the console will act just as if you were plugging them in to the desktop itself thanks to USBoverIP technology.

While the DOKO is free of many restrictions that you will find on other PC streaming devices, it does not come with built-in WiFi so you will need to run an Ethernet cable or alternative method, such as a powerline adapter.

Those of you in the US can order the DOKO right now, HERE. Pricing and availability for other territories has yet to be announced,

KitGuru Says: PC streaming is becoming a fairly big thing, especially as more companies get on board. While the DOKO is restricted to a wired connection, it is free of many other restrictions, which you will find on other devices. What do you guys think of in-home streaming solutions? Do any of you use them regularly?

Several major gaming hardware makers are in the midst of making a big push for cloud gaming, with new services like the Nvidia GRID and PlayStation Now beginning to pop up with technological gains over tried and failed services, such as On Live. However, despite cloud technology coming as far as it has over the last couple of years, many are still skeptical and run for the hills when ‘the cloud' is mentioned, which brings me to the question we are going to try and answer right now- Is cloud gaming viable today in its current form?

nvidia shield tablet650px

To answer this we are going to be taking a look at Nvidia's new GRID cloud gaming service, which you can access via the Nvidia Hub on Shield tablets. Nvidia was keen to supply us hardware for testing, so thanks to them for their support throughout this article.

GRID was announced as a timed freebie for Shield owners and has been in the making for ten years. According to Nvidia's own tests, the hardware found inside of its servers can perform up to 12 times faster than PlayStation Now.

Our tests are ran on a Virgin Media 152Mb home broadband connection, paired with a Linksys WRT1900ac router, which we reviewed over HERE.

Speed Test

As you can see, our speeds are fairly high so the connection speed shouldn't be a bottlenecking factor in any of our tests. Nvidia currently recommends a 15Mb connection at least for cloud gaming. There are two servers available to connect to in Europe, our closest one being located in Ireland- obviously your distance from the server will factor in to performance, no matter how good your connection might be.

Another day of CES, another day of new product announcements. Today Razer has officially revealed the Forge TV, an Android based mini console that will be capable of streaming games from your PC. Rumors of a Razer console of sorts have been floating around for a while and it looks like they were right.

The entry level console will cost $99.99, there will also be a bundle on offer, which will include ‘The Serval', a new bluetooth gamepad. Razer will also be updating its Cortex software to stream PC games to the console, although this software functionality will arrive after the console has been released.

For those who hate controllers, there will also be a separate mouse and keyboard bundle that you can buy for the console. This one is called the Razer Turret and comes with an anti-ghosting keyboard and a 3500 DPI mouse.

Under the hood, the Forge TV will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 CPU, an Adreno 420 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Gamers will be able to access the Google Play Store and run Android titles on the big screen as well.

The console is expected to release during Q1.

KitGuru Says: The PC game streaming feature will help Razer's console compete against the Nvidia Shield. Steam in-home streaming works really well, so it will be interesting to see how Razer's solution fares. What do you guys think of Razer's new Android console? Would you buy one?

Nvidia is set to launch its own Black Friday bundle for the Nvidia Shield tablet in the UK and the US this week, giving shoppers the chance to get their hands on the tablet, the controller, the Greenbox bundle and free access to Nvidia's recently launched GRID cloud gaming service.

In the UK, the 32GB Shield tablet will cost £299 ($399) and will be bundled with a free controller, copies of Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2 Episode One and Portal. Additionally, you'll be able to stream over 20 games from GRID servers, which are currently active in the UK and US. While the Shield does center around gaming features, it is also a very capable Android tablet, which could steal the Nexus 7's place in the market thanks to its swift updates.

SHIELD Black Friday

Do note that the tablet does not come with its own HDMI to mini-HDMI cable, which will allow you to use ‘console mode'. Being a shield tablet owner myself, I would also recommend getting the tablet cover or a cheaper third party solution as it is useful for propping the tablet up on solid surfaces for movie watching or streaming games around the house.

Over in the US, potential buyers will also be able to grab a Shield Portable bundle, which includes the original Shield handheld, the carrying case and a black magnetic cover for the top for $199. The Shield Portable never made its way over to the UK officially so you won't be able to find this bundle here.

This offer is valid from Friday the 28th of November, there is no specific end date listed. The link to the US specific bundles is already live. The UK link is due to go up tomorrow on the 26th of November.

KitGuru Says: If you were thinking about getting a Shield tablet then Friday seems like the right time to buy. It's not just Nvidia doing deals though, Amazon has flash sales going up all week so be sure to shop around for tech deals.

While the number of people that want to and are capable of doing what the title suggests might be a relatively small group – even smaller if you consider the technical know how required to make it happen – that doesn't mean it's not a pretty impressive hack. During the 30th Chaos Communication Congress this week, a small team was able to showcase playing not only a simple drawing app on the PC, through a Wii U gamepad, but they were able to play an emulated version of the Gamecube Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker on it.

zeda
Now you too can play the non-HD version of the game, with crash bugs!

If you want to watch the revelation yourself and skip over most of the talking, skip to 47 minutes in:

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8YgVVtNRjg']

While the hackers responsible have said that it is mainly a proof of concept that they hope will be used by developers, it's an exciting idea for those with Wii U's and those of us outside of the Nvidia Shield's sales territories (read: everywhere but NA).

While PC gaming via streaming to the device is obviously possible and could open up some interesting gameplay alternatives, this hack is also being suggested to make it so the gamepad can be used as a controller for quadcopters or other robotic devices.

KitGuru Says: It would certainly be a big selling point for the Wii U if Nintendo worked with these guys to make it able to stream PC content too. I bet a few of you would be more interested in it then.
