Powercolor have been one of the more active AMD partners in recent months, releasing many modified cards with custom cooling solutions for all sectors of the market. Today we are looking at their latest HD6870 PCS++ which is supplied with a proprietary cooler and substantial ‘out of the box' overclocks.

AMD's HD6870 has proved a good seller in recent months, targeting the lower end of the gaming market, but offering good performance at modest resolutions. Powercolor are aiming to push this specific board design as far as possible by increasing the core clock by a whopping 75mhz and the memory clock by 100 mhz (400mhz effective).

We love modified graphics cards at Kitguru, and today's review product should really tickle the taste buds. Not only have Powercolor overclocked AMD's award winning HD6950, but they have added an dual fan cooler, which is height adjustable. Today we will find out if it is worth your money.

The Powercolor HD6950 PCS+ is supplied with a 50mhz core increase (from 800mhz on reference design to 850mhz) and the GDDR5 memory is enhanced from 5.0Gbps to 5.2Gbps. Powercolor have included their proprietary Vortex II cooler with ‘whirlwind' technology which offers flexibility and customisation to the enthusiast user. Not only that, but the cooler features a pure copper base with a high performance heat pipe design. Powercolor have also included 2GB of GDDR5 memory.
