It looks like Microsoft is going to start blocking “unauthorised” Xbox controllers and accessories soon. Until now, you could release a third-party controller or peripheral and connect it via USB. However, users have begun noticing a new “connected accessory is not authorised” error message.

Several users on Resetera have seen the new error message, which also includes a note that unauthorised accessories will be blocked and unusable on Xbox consoles after two weeks, giving customers a chance to get a replacement before being unable to play.

This means that moving forward, all third-party peripherals will need to go through the Xbox certification program for officially licensed products. It is unclear if this change will impact controller-spoofing devices like XIM or Chronus, which are also used to enable cheats in console games.

One area where this may have a notable impact is fighting games. Maximillian Dood, one of the largest fighting game YouTubers around, warned that this would hurt the fighting game scene and would see local tournaments having to switch away from Xbox due to support for arcade stick converters.

It is unclear how easy it will be for third-parties to get an official badge of approval for peripherals on Xbox but we would hope for an easy path for companies releasing useful peripherals, while making things difficult for products that enable cheating.

In a statement to WindowsCentral, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed the rollout of this new error message and change in policy but did not clarify on the types of peripherals it is looking to clamp down on.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: If this helps put a stop to cheats, then it is probably the right move. However, if controller-spoofing devices are still enabled, then I don't see how this move does anything but squash competition in the console peripheral space.

Corsair has made a number of key acquisitions in recent years, greatly expanding its product portfolio. This week, Corsair announced the acquisition of another company – Drop, a custom peripherals retailer.

Drop is perhaps best known for its line-up of mechanical keyboards, along with accessories like custom keycaps. However, the company also deals in many other forms of peripherals, including high-end headphones. Most recently, Drop had a big collaboration with Middle-Earth Enterprises to put out new Lord of the Rings-themed keyboards and custom keycaps.

As announced by Drop CEO, Jef Holove, the company is now owned by Corsair. It would seem that Corsair is indeed primarily interested in the custom keyboard business that Drop has developed over the years which could lead to even more personalised peripherals and custom options from Corsair down the line.

One of the big benefits of this acquisition is greater availability. Under Corsair, Drop will now be able to expand to a worldwide footprint, bringing customised tech gear to many more parts of the world.

KitGuru Says: Since 2018, Corsair has acquired Elgato to break into the live streaming and creator space, Scuf Gaming to offer personalised and high-end game controllers and even Origin PC, which builds custom gaming PCs for the US market. Now, we can add Drop (formerly Massdrop) to that list.

We've covered a lot of tech deals today for Black Friday, now we turn our attention to peripherals. We've been on the hunt for the best deals we can find for mice, keyboards and headsets to find the standouts.

Starting off with gaming headsets, the Logitech G Pro X Gaming is currently over 50% off, bringing its price down to just £54.99, with universal compatibility for your PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. If you'd prefer a wireless option, the HyperX Cloud Stinger Core comes highly recommended and is almost half-price at the moment, bringing its price down to just £40.

If you prefer earbuds and need a pair for general use, then the Edifier NeoBuds Pro Hi-Res ANC Noice Cancelling wireless earbuds currently have a very good discount, knocking £40 off the usual price to bring it down to £89.99. The Edifier W820NB Hybrid ANC over-ear headphones are also great for wireless listening, with 49 hours of playback time. Currently, these headphones are down to £55.99.

You'll find plenty of good deals on a gaming mouse this week too. The NZXT Lift MS-1 is ultralight, includes RGB lighting and has a high-end PixArt sensor for just £33.80. Alternatively, the Logitech G Pro Wireless has a huge 58% discount applied, bringing the price down from £119.99 to just £49.99. The Logitech G703 Lightspeed wireless gaming mouse is also on sale for £37.99.

With an equally impressive 58% discount, the SteelSeries Rival 650 wireless gaming mouse offers the ‘gaming' aesthetic and has a customisable weight system. Typically this mouse goes for £119.99 but is currently down to £49.99. The SteelSeries Aerox 3 is another option at the £49.99 price point, offering an ultralight design and up to 200-hour battery life.

Our final three deals here in this roundup are all keyboards. The Logitech G915 Lightspeed TKL is 43% off, bringing the price down to £124.99 with low-profile GL-Tactile key switches. For something a little more budget-friendly, the NZXT Function Mechanical Keyboard has hot-swappable key switch sockets and linear RGB mechanical switches by default, priced at £104.62. Finally, we have the HyperX Alloy Elite 2, also offering RGB linear switches and dedicated media controls. Usually, this keyboard goes for £129.99 but it is currently down to £69.99.

It is Amazon Prime Day, making the next 48 hours a perfect time to pick up a few new bits for your PC setup. If you're in need of some new peripherals, or you're looking to kickstart a stream with some Elgato gear, Corsair has some deals worth checking out over the next couple of days.

If you are in need of a new headset, then Corsair has done particularly well with deals in this area. The high-end HS80 RGB gaming headset is £42 off, bringing the price down from £109.99 to £67.99. You can also get the HS80 RGB Wireless edition with a £50 saving, bringing the price down to £109.99. Corsair's flagship headset, the Virtuoso Wireless SE, is down from £199.99 to £165. On the more affordable end of the spectrum, the HS60 Haptic is down to £49.99 and the HS55 Surround is down to £44.99, and available in Carbon or White colourways. If you'd like a convenient stand and an extra dash of RGB colour for your setup, the ST100 RGB Headset Stand is currently £52.99.

On the keyboard front, there are just a couple of options – the K65 RGB RAPIDFIRE with Cherry MX Speed switches, which is currently going for £90.99, or the K70 MK.2 RGB with Cherry MX Blue switches, which is now £104.99.

If you are looking to kickstart a gaming stream, or you simply want better lighting and video for Discord calls, you'll find the Elgato Facecam with a discount, bringing the price down to £139.99, as well as the Elgato Ring Light for £40 off, bringing the price down to £149.99.

On the PC hardware front, Corsair has a few deals there too, mainly focused on power supplies and cooling. The Corsair CX550M and HX750 power supply units are all on sale, bringing prices down to £51.99 and £119.99 respectively. If you want some extra fans, the Corsair AF140 dual pack is £10 off, bringing the price down to £14.99.

As always, Prime Day deals are subject to availability, so if stock runs out, you won't be able to take advantage of the discount. With that in mind, if you have your eye on something in particular, you are better off grabbing it, rather than waiting.

Razer has been using HyperSense technology to bring new haptic feedback features to a number of peripherals in recent years. Soon, Razer's HyperSense tech will be getting a boost, as the company has now acquired haptic feedback specialist, Interhaptics.

Interhaptics was founded in 2017 with the goal of delivering consistent, realistic and immersive haptic feedback solutions for mixed reality, as well as PC and console peripherals. Razer began shipping HyperSense products in 2018, starting with the Nari Ultimate headset. Since then, HyperSense has gone on to be used in several other products from Razer, including the Kraken V3.

Now with Razer acquiring Interhaptics, the company will be looking to expand HyperSense across more products to build out a full ecosystem of peripherals with haptic features.

“Haptics has tremendous value for gamers,” said Eric Vezzoli, CEO of Interhaptics. “The opportunity to join Razer was a no brainer for us, as they are committed to delivering the most engaging gaming experience, and we are looking forward to doing it together as part of the Razer family.” Razer's Senior VP of hardware business, Alvin Cheung, added that “interhaptics brings leading expertise in haptics and their development platform will be leveraged to expand the HyperSense ecosystem”.

Following the acquisition by Razer, Interhaptics Founder and CEO Eric Vezzoli will join Razer as Associate Director of Haptics. Interhaptics will remain an independent entity, but will be closely integrated into the Razer ecosystem.

KitGuru Says: The HD-Rumble in the Switch Joy-Cons helped me realise how important haptic feedback can be and more recently, Sony's DualSense controller has shown just how much it can add to gameplay. Hopefully soon we'll see a whole host of haptic-supported peripherals from Razer to bring some of that magic to the PC platform.

  • 20mm real gold-plated electret condenser capsule
  • Cardioid pattern
  • 192kHz/24bit studio grade sampling rate
  • RGB illumination with 12 modes
  • Gain & Level indicator with G-Sensor

NZXT is officially stepping into the gaming peripherals market, starting with the new Function Modular Mechanical Keyboard and the Lift Lightweight Ambidextrous Mouse. The introduction of peripherals will also see deeper customisation options offered through the NZXT BLD service.

The NZXT Function keyboard is a low-profile keyboard with an aluminium body designed to allow users to tailor their experience. It includes customisable features like hot-swappable switches, detachable USB-C cable, and standard bottom rows. This allows users to tune the keyboard to their exact colour, sound, and feel preferences.

Joining the keyboard is a new NZXT lightweight ambidextrous mouse. The Lift Mouse has a minimalist design, with a PixArt 3389 optical sensor and Omron switches under the hood. Both the keyboard and mouse have RGB lighting, which can be customised through NZXT CAM. In addition to all of this, NZXT is also going to offer new mouse pads in three sizes and different colour options.

In countries where NZXT BLD is available, users can pay to further customise the keyboard and mouse, including different base colours, switches, accent keycaps and different coloured cables.

The NZXT Function keyboard will be available in three sizes – full-sized, tenkeyless and Mini TKL, priced at £129.99, £109.99 and £99.99 respectively. The Lift mouse will be available for £39.99 and mouse pads are available starting at £14.99. If you want to customise your keyboard or mouse through NZXT BLD, you will have to pay a $9.99 service fee.

Since breaking onto the gaming keyboard scene in 2013, Xtrfy has continued to improve its design and offer a wider range of options. This week, Xtrfy is launching the new K5 Compact series, consisting of two ultra-customisable keyboards in a shrunk down 65% form factor.

The K5 Compact is part of Xtrfy's fifth generation of keyboards. The K5 Compact is available in black or white, with both maintaining the same feature set and customisation options. Everything from the switches and stabilisers to the keycap and frame can be swapped out with custom solutions as the user sees fit.

The K5 Compact will be available pre-built at retailers, while online shoppers can explore the customisation options by ordering online. As you would expect from a company like Xtrfy, this keyboard is indeed esports-focused and has been tested by esports players throughout development. This paves the way for technologies like super-scan, which scans all keys every half a millisecond to ensure keystrokes are registered speedily.

The shrunk down, 65% form factor has not led to many sacrifices either, as many functions can be handled through various keyboard shortcut. Xtrfy even found some room to keep arrow keys in place for gaming.

The Xtrfy K5 Compact will be releasing this Spring, with pre-orders expected to open in March, with prices starting at $139.

ASUS is revamping its headset line-up this week with the launch of the ROG Fusion II 500 and Fusion II 300 headsets. Both feature high-resolution ESS 9280 Quad DAC technology, and Asus's AI Beamforming and noise cancelation technologies.

The Fusion II 500 and Fusion II 300 are described as “fully loaded” headsets, with all the bells and whistles Asus can provide. The feature set sounds impressive on paper, including virtual 7.1 surround sound, a Quad DAC, 50mm Asus Essence drivers and AI assisted features to improve microphone quality. The ESS 9280 Quad DAC is only available in a select few headsets, providing lossless audio processing, with each DAC allocating its processing power to a subset of the audible frequency range, resulting in higher quality, clearer audio.

The ASUS AI Beamforming Microphones with AI Noise Cancelation will keep communications clear while chatting through your VOIP software of choice. The microphones create a 40° acoustic zone in front of the user's mouth and filter out distracting background noise from other directions for clear voice pick-up. In addition, AI Noise Cancelation is also trained to filter out the most common types of background noise, including keyboard clatter, mouse clicks or other people talking in the room.

Both headsets include customizable Aura RGB lighting to provide gamers with over 16.8 million colour combinations and six preset lighting effects via Armoury Crate. For connectivity, you get a 3.5mm audio jack, USB-C and USB Type-A on the Fusion II 500, while the Fusion II 300 is USB-only and does not include a 3.5mm jack.

The ASUS ROG Fusion II series of gaming headsets are available starting this month. The Fusion II 500 is already available with a price tag of $180 – better yet, we've already had the chance to put it to the test, so if you're interested, you can find our thoughts and impressions over on YouTube. The ROG Fusion II 300 will be launching a little later, with availability planned for the end of February.

The Genesis Neon 600 line-up grows this week, with a new white version of the headset joining the roster. Now available in black or white, the Neon 600 RGB gaming headset aims for well-rounded audio at an affordable price, coming in at around £40.

The Neon 600 RGB White gaming headset is designed with comfort in mind, with a floating headband design to keep weight off your head, as well as plush leatherette ear cups for better sound isolation. The closed back design of the headphones will also help block out any unwanted background noise and distractions while playing. Finally, the headset also adds a simple but stylish RGB lighting system covering each earcup.

Besides the button that changes the RGB preset, users can also set the volume via the wheel on the left earcup. Each earcup has a 50mm neodymium magnet driver, promising to offer “high quality, attention to detail, as well as precise positioning”. The built-in omnidirectional microphone uses an elastic arm so users can easily adjust its position.

At the end of the 2.3m braided cable, there are 2x 3.5mm mini-jack plugs and a USB 2.0 port to connect the headset. The Neon 600 RGB White gaming headset is now available for €39.90/$44.90.

AOC has transformed its gaming line-up this year, launching ‘Agon by AOC', a rebrand for the company's gaming line-up, expanding beyond monitors and into the gaming peripherals market too. This weekend, KitGuru was invited to an event to see the very latest from AOC's gaming line.

The Agon by AOC portfolio is split into three segments, with AOC Gaming monitors being the entry point, offering high 144Hz and 165Hz displays with FHD, QHD and ultra-wide resolutions. One rung up the ladder are Agon monitors, offering up to 240Hz refresh rates for QHD displays and up to 165Hz for super-wide, 49-inch displays. Finally at the very top, we have Agon Pro, which are the pinnacle of what AOC has to offer, offering cutting-edge gaming features like G-Sync Ultimate, MiniLED panels and up to 360Hz refresh rates, as well as premium design elements like RGB LightFX and a metal stand.

AOC's new Agon Pro monitors are the star of the show this weekend. The new flagship gaming monitors sport a MiniLED display, which brings big benefits for HDR thanks to its higher contrast, brightness and wider colour gamut compared to a traditional LCD panel. MiniLED is also less prone to burn in compared to OLED, making it a suitable alternative for PCs.

It doesn't stop there though, AOC's flagship Agon Pro displays also boast up to 4K resolution, high refresh rates, and some models include HDMI 2.1, making them perfect for PC and next-gen console gaming with the Xbox Series X/S or PS5. Finally, you also get Nvidia G-Sync or AMD FreeSync for tear-free gaming and some models also support the Nvidia Reflex Analyser tool so you can monitor input latency.

In the table below, you can see a breakdown of the Agon Pro series of monitors:

The Agon by AOC range doesn't just include monitors though, there are also new Agon peripherals on the way, including the GH401 wireless gaming headset and the new GM510B lightweight gaming mouse.

The GH401 is AOC's first wireless gaming headset, designed with comfort in mind and with support for spatial audio plugins, like Windows Sonic. This is a multi-device headset, so you can hook it up to your console, TV, phone or PC. While using 2.4GHz wireless mode, you should get up to 17 hours of battery life on a single charge. If your headset runs out of juice mid-gaming, you can switch over to the 3.5mm wired audio connection instead.

The GM510B is AOC's latest Agon gaming mouse, sporting a battle-tested Pixart PWM3389 sensor, RGB lighting and a lightweight ‘honeycomb' shell design. For something a little more traditional, you can go with the GM530B instead, which utilises an ergonomic shape with side grips, while maintaining RGB and the Pixart PWM3389 sensor.

Both upcoming AOC Agon gaming mice will cost €44.90, while the headset will be available later this month for €79.90.

Earlier this year we saw AOC take its first steps beyond monitors and into the PC gaming peripherals market. AOC already has two headsets and now, there are two mechanical keyboards, two gaming mice and a new mousepad to add to that line-up.

In total, the new AOC Gaming series of peripherals spans the GK500 and AGK700 keyboards, the GM500 and AGM700 gaming mice and the AMM700 mousepad with RGB lighting. All AOC peripherals are backed by a 2-year warranty.

The AOC Gaming GK500 keyboard is an RGB mechanical keyboard featuring mechanical blue switches, n-key rollover, and 100% anti-ghosting. All 104 keys of the keyboard and RGB lighting zones are programmable using AOC G-Tools software, but there are five dedicated macro keys for custom bindings. The GK500 keyboard also comes with a magnetic and detachable wrist rest to increase comfort and an aluminium top body cover for enhanced durability. The package includes an additional set of W, A, S, D keys.

AOC also has a high-end keyboard – the AOC Agon AGK700, featuring Cherry MX Blue mechanical switches. This mechanical keyboard comes with 115 double injection moulded keycaps. Like the GK500 keyboard, it offers n-key rollover, 100% anti-ghosting, but it also has some other premium features such as USB pass-through (2.0) and a volume wheel on the top centre of the board. The aluminium body has been designed to endure the energy of high-level competitions. There’s also a magnetic and detachable wrist rest with a leather finish. Users may configure the macro keys, RGB lighting, and save key profiles using AOC G-Tools. The AGK700 also comes with an extra set of W, A, S, D keys.

As an ambidextrous mouse, the AOC Gaming GM500 is very versatile. It employs a Pixart 3325 sensor with a sensitivity of 5,000 DPI, a tracking speed of 100 inches/sec, and 20G acceleration. There’s also Omron switches below the buttons with 50M-click durability. All eight buttons and the mouse’s RGB lighting can be configured on AOC G-Tools software.

The AGM700 is the more premium option, featuring a Pixart 3389 sensor supporting 16,000 DPI, a 400 inches/sec tracking speed, and 50G acceleration, the AGM700 is suitable for the most demanding users. This mouse also offers OMRON switches with 50M-click durability and RGB lighting. The on-the-fly DPI switch allow users to change the mouse’s sensitivity as they see fit, while the DPI sniper button immediately lowers it to a preset value. Users may add weight to the mouse using any of the five 1g weights included.

Lastly, AOC also introduced an RGB gaming mouse pad with a micro-textured cloth surface so mice can easily glide over it. It features an anti-slip rubber base to ensure the mouse pad does not move during critical moments. The surrounding RGB light strip displays up to 16.8M colours and has four effects to choose from. Users may configure the mousepad’s RGB lighting through AOC G-Tools thanks to a built-in 32-bit controller.

All of AOC's new gaming peripherals will be available here starting in July. Keyboards will start at £34 for the GK200, £64 for the GK500 and £155 for the AGK700. On the mouse front, the line-up starts at just £18 for the GM200, with the GM500 and AGM700 costing £25 and £47 respectively. There are also two AOC Gaming headsets available already – the GH200 and GH300, costing £39 and £49 respectively.

KitGuru Says: AOC has swiftly put together a decent portfolio of gaming accessories to accompany its monitors.

While we all know AOC for its gaming monitors, the company is hoping to expand its reach a bit further this year. This week, AOC announced that it is getting into the PC gaming peripheral market, starting off with two affordable headsets.

The first headset is the AOC GH200, which uses a sleek and lightweight chassis, foam cushioning, a detachable microphone and 50mm neodymium drivers inside the ear cups. This headset is the cheaper of the two, coming with a gunmetal finish, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a 2 meter braided cable. The headset also comes with a Y-splitter, so microphone and headphone outputs can be split if needed. While this headset doesn't ship with a 7.1 virtual surround sound solution, users can install Windows Sonic or something like Dolby Atmos for Headphones to gain spatial audio.

The GH300 is the higher-end of these two headsets, but it still comes in at a reasonable, sub-£50 price tag. Featuring the same overall design and build materials as the GH200, this headset kicks things up a notch with 7.1 virtual surround sound and USB instead of a 3.5mm headphone jack and RGB lighting. The GH300 also comes with a red finish rather than gunmetal.

The same drivers are used in both headsets, offering 20Hz to 20KHz frequency response with an impedance of 32 Ohms. The microphone is also the same across both headsets, offering a frequency range of 100Hz to 10KHz, omnidirectional sound pick-up and an LED to let you know when the microphone is muted.

The AOC GH200 gaming headset will be available starting in May 2021, priced at £39 in the UK. The GH300 is launching at the same time, with a slightly higher £49 price tag.

KitGuru Says: AOC is expanding into PC peripherals for the first time, so it will be interesting to see these first two products in action and how they compare to the competition. What do you all think of AOC's first step into peripherals with the GH200 and GH300 headsets?

On the keyboard front, you can find the Logitech G512 mechanical keyboard with RGB lighting for just £83.99. The G513 Carbon is also on sale, bringing its price down from £149.99 to £104.99. The low-profile Logitech G815 mechanical gaming keyboard has the biggest discount though, with the price dropping from £169.99 to £100.99.

The Glorious PC Gaming Race Model D is one of our favourite lightweight gaming mice. Right now at Overclockers UK, the matte white version is just £34.99, while the black version is on sale for £47.95. The Glorious PC Gaming Race Mouse Bungee is also on offer for £10.99.

The Endgame Gear XM1 deserves a mention with its esports-focused design and flagship Pixart PWM3389 sensor. Currently, you can get the XM1 in black or white for £37.99.

ASUS ROG has a couple of notable mentions here too. The ROG Spatha Wireless RGB gaming mouse for instance is currently 20% off. Meanwhile, more affordable options like the ROG Gladius II Origin and ROG Pugio come in at £62.99 and £41.99 respectively.

At a time when many of us are stuck at home twiddling our thumbs due to uncertainty about the coronavirus pandemic, here at KitGuru we thought it would be the ideal opportunity to give our readers some valuable PC buying advice. With that in mind, we have come up with a comprehensive buying guide for gamers looking to build their own system and keep occupied during this strange period.

To be sure we can cover all bases, we have split the guide up into several categories, including various budget levels ranging from the basic low-end system, right up to the ‘money is no object’ dream gaming system. For those of you who are not confident in build your own gaming system, we have also thrown in some pre-built options from well-respected OEM PCSpecialist at the end of the guide.

As well as covering various budgets, we are also looking at systems based on both AMD and Intel platforms. In total, we will produce five AMD-based systems and five based on Intel platforms, with categories for ‘basic', ‘low end', ‘mid-range', ‘high end' and ‘extreme' spec systems. As a bit of fun, we will also add one ultimate system and finally a system for the millionaire where money is no object.

While primarily this buying guide is aimed at finding the best value for money gaming system in each budget category, there will be areas where systems based on one platform out-perform its equivalent system in certain tasks. Where possible we try to match CPU and GPU performance in each system category as closely as possible.

However, since AMD and Intel’s current CPU architecture is quite different, AMD systems will generally be equipped with higher CPU core counts making them better at multitasking and productivity while Intel based systems may have a lower core count but higher CPU core frequency, possibly giving them a slight advantage in gaming.

Where possible, we try to ensure AMD based systems feature an AMD CPU, motherboard platform and graphics card. However, since AMD’s current crop of GPUs is somewhat limited, especially at the extreme top end of the market, in these situations an alternative from Nvidia will be used as a substitute.

When it comes to building Intel based systems, we will use the same process with Intel processors and motherboard platform. Since Intel doesn’t currently produce its own discrete graphics solutions, we will pair Nvidia GPUs with Intel based platforms.

We are heading towards the end of November and all of the deals are starting to roll in. Today, we caught on to a brand new gaming bundle from RAZER, packing together a gaming keyboard, mouse, headset and mouse mat for £110.

The RAZER Epic Gaming Bundle is now available including the Cynosa Chroma Gaming Keyboard, DeathAdder Essential gaming mouse, Kraken X Lite headset and the Goliathus Mobile Stealth Edition gaming surface.

Normally, the Cynosa Chroma keyboard on its own retails for £64.99, while the DeathAdder Essential is a £50 mouse when purchased on its own, the same goes for the headset. With that in mind, £110 for the full bundle is a pretty good price and gives you all the gaming peripherals you'll need in one box, making an upgrade, or gifting to a first-time PC gamer much easier.

The bundle can be found on Currys in the UK with next day delivery, or there is the option to order online and pick up in-store.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Are any of you looking at getting a full peripheral bundle like this one, or do you prefer to buy each piece separately? This certainly seems to be one of the better peripheral bundles around at the moment, so let us know if you end up grabbing one.

Gamescom is underway this week but this time around, there seems to be an increased focus on PC gaming gear, with ASUS ROG taking the opportunity to launch a ton of new stuff. We've got a new trio of gaming monitors, a trio of new motherboards and new wireless peripherals.

On the monitor front, ASUS has brought the ROG Strix XG43UQ, XG27UQ and XG17 displays to Gamescom. The first is a 43-inch 4K/144Hz gaming monitor with DisplayHDR 600 and FreeSync 2. The XG27UQ is a 27-inch version, with 4K/144Hz and DisplayHDR 400 instead. This mix of high resolution and refresh rate is achieved using Display Stream Compression (DSC), which allows this level of fidelity without chroma subsampling. The final monitor here this week is the ROG Strix XG17, which is a 17-inch portable gaming monitor complete with a 240Hz refresh rate, making it an ideal companion for serious gaming while away from home.

Intel is due to launch a new range of Core X-series processors soon, which means it is about time for new motherboards. ASUS is prepared for this shift with the ROG Rampage VI Extreme Encore, ROG Strix X299-E Gaming II and Prime X299-A II motherboards.

The Rampage Extreme Encore is the flagship, with 16 power stages, a DIMM.2 slot to allow more M.2 SSDs to be plugged in at once, Wi-Fi 6 support and USB 3.2 Gen 2. The ROG Strix X299-E Gaming II and Prime X299-A II are a step down with 12 power stages but will also cost a lot less. Some of the biggest improvements here come on the BIOS side, with ASUS implementing changes to its 1-click overclocking tools, paving the way for per-core OCs on up to 16 CPU cores.

Finally, we have two new wireless gaming peripherals coming, the ROG Chakram mouse and the ROG Strix Go 2.4 headset. The mouse features an optical sensor and Qi wireless charging, an integrated joystick for gamepad-like movement control and re-programmable buttons. While this mouse can be charged in wireless mode, plugging it in also has some advantages, with 15 minutes of charging time providing 12 hours of life.

The ROG Strix Go 2.4 is a wireless gaming headset, which can also be used with the Nintendo Switch, PCs and mobile phones. In fact, this is the world's first wireless headset that can be used with the Nintendo Switch in handheld mode, which is a nice bonus. For a wired connection, you'll be using USB Type-C, meanwhile, wireless duties are handled by a 2.4GHz wireless connection, which should provide less latency compared to Bluetooth.

Everything listed here should be available soon, with pricing and exact launch dates still TBC. We'll be looking forward to getting more hands on in the coming months though, so keep an eye out for reviews.

KitGuru Says: That 43-inch monitor in particular has my attention at the moment. Are any of you planning on upgrading some hardware this year? What do you think of the latest and greatest from ASUS?

MSI has always set its sights across the wider PC gaming hardware industry, focusing not just on the components to build a system, but the peripheral side too. Today, MSI is expanding its Gaming Gear line of peripherals with a new lightweight, foldable headset.

The MSI GH30 fits into the usual MSI aesthetic, with a red and black colour scheme and the MSI dragon logo appearing on both ear cups. Under those two closed ear cups, you will find 40mm Neodymium drivers that promise to ‘punch above their weight' when it comes to sound quality. Here are the full specifications:
Connector: 3.5mm headphone jack.
Cable: 1.5m with gold-plated connector. 30cm Y-splitter cable included.
Driver Unit: 40mm Neodymium.
Speaker sensitivity: 96dB ± 3dB
Speaker Impedance: 32 ohm ± 15%
Speaker frequency response: 20Hz~20KHz
Microphone: Unidirectional.
Microphone sensitivity: -36 ± 3dB
Microphone Impedance: 2.2K Ohm.
Microphone frequency response: 100Hz~10KHz
Weight: 222g.

The MSI GH30 gaming headset should be available in the UK shortly, priced at around £45.

KitGuru Says: MSI has a good suite of peripherals but it is always nice to see something new coming to the table. Are any of you currently in the market for a new gaming headset? Would you consider the GH30?

Other features include Cherry MX Red mechanical switches, full N-key rollover and an aluminium faceplate with the option of 4 metal keycaps – all for £94.99.  But is it any good?

Over the last few years, some esports teams have transitioned from endorsing specific peripherals to designing their own. Ninjas in Pyjamas was amongst the first teams to do this with the launch of ‘Xtrfy'. In 2017, we saw the first Xtrfy gaming headset, which appeared to be inspired by the HyperX Cloud IIs. Now, the company's second gaming headset has launched, boasting a number of improvements.

The Xtrfy H2 Pro gaming headset changes the overall design slightly, with a stealthier colour scheme, larger ear cups, thicker memory foam cushions and a new microphone and controller. The headphones use 53mm Neodymium drivers, which should provide decent sound across the board.

As we saw with the Xtrfy H1, the headset frame is aluminium, adding to build quality and rigidity. Memory foam padding on the headband and ear cups will ensure comfort for long gaming sessions. The in-line controller is attached to a fully braided cable and gives you quick access to headphone and microphone volume, as well as a mute switch.

We ended up giving the H1 a ‘Worth Considering' award in our review last year. It will be interesting to see the H2 in action and dive into the improvements made. Although if you are already interested in the headset, then you'll be able to pick it up from Overclockers UK for £79.99.
