SilverStone has launched a new high-end SFX-L PSU, the Extreme1200R Platinum. The upcoming high-capacity PSU is potentially the highest-wattage power supply in the SFX-L form factor, offering up to 1200W of power.

This modern power supply complies with the SFX12V 4.1 standard, equivalent to ATX 3.1, and PCIe CEM 5. It features a native 12V-2×6 power connection capable of supplying continuous power of up to 600W. The 12V-2×6 is designed to be less fragile and prone to burn-outs due to poor connections or cable bending than its predecessor.

The SilverStone Extreme1200R Platinum has a single 100 A +12 V rail and can generate up to 1200W. Certified by Cybenetics with the “Platinum” badge, the PSU has all-Japanese capacitors and comes equipped with various electrical safeguards, including over- and under-voltage, overload, overheat, and short-circuit protections. To keep the unit cool, a 120mm fluid-dynamic bearing fan is employed. The connectors include a 24-pin ATX, two 4+4 pin EPS, a 600W 12V-2×6, four 6+2 pin PCIe, eight SATA power, three 4-pin Molex, and a Berg.

The company has not yet disclosed pricing details. The new PSU will be available in Asia starting mid-January, with North American and European availability following in early February.

Back in December, the co-founder and face of PlatinumGames, Hideki Kamiya, announced that he had left the studio. Since then, Kamiya has opened up a YouTube channel where he has been rather candid about his current situation. Speaking to IGN, the co-founder has now explained exactly why he departed the studio.

In an interview with IGN Japan, Hideki Kamiya sat down to discuss his YouTube channel, the fact that he cannot make games for a year following the departure and more. When asked for more details on why exactly he left PlatinumGames, Kamiya responded:

“My work with PlatinumGames was based on a relationship of trust with the company. I decided to leave because I felt that the direction the company was heading in was different from my beliefs as a developer. Without that element of trust, I couldn’t continue working there, and so I left, so that I could continue working in what I consider to be the right way.”

He continued, “I don't think of games as products, but rather as works of art. I want to put my artistry into games and deliver games that could only be made by Hideki Kamiya, so that players can enjoy Hideki Kamiya games exactly as they are. I decided to leave the company and forge my own path, to continue making games that reflect the developers who made them.”

Based on what he has said, it seems as though PlatinumGames had perhaps expanded outward beyond Kamiya’s desires. While a generally loved studio, Platinum has been criticised for developing many middling licensed games – likely a by-product of the aforementioned change in company direction.

Hideki Kamiya is a highly inventive and creative developer and so it will be exciting to see what he does next – once the one year period is up.

A couple weeks ago, we reported that the co-founder of PlatinumGames – Hideki Kamiya – announced his departure from the studio after more than 15 years to the surprise of many. Now, the Devil May Cry, Resident Evil 2 and Bayonetta director has spoken a bit more on the situation, revealing that he isn’t allowed to work in the video games industry for the next year due to non-compete clauses.

In the latest episode of his YouTube series ‘Let’s Ask Kamiya’ the PlatinumGames co-founder spoke on a number of topics, primarily his departure from the studio. Kamiya discussed his reasons for leaving and what he’s been doing since. Interestingly, the PlatinumGames co-founder then revealed that due to legalities, he isn’t allowed to work in the industry for the next year, saying:

“Am I even allowed to say this out loud? I can’t work for the same industry for a year. Due to reasons. So it’ll be a while until I bring good news to you all. It’ll take time, but I’ll make it happen.”

When asked about his plans for the next year during this interim period, Kamiya joked “Plans? Well, I think I’m going to…hmm…go home and do some cooking? I did some cooking, you know when I lived alone in college. But, once I started to work, it’s not the healthiest – eating out, convenience stores and Uber, etc. Now that I have unlimited time I decided to do some cooking, and made curry the other day. I had cravings for homemade curry. But you can’t eat homemade curry unless it’s homemade, so I gave it a try. I made Java curry.”

While Kamiya didn’t go into details as to why he can’t work in the industry for the next year, it is most likely due to non-compete clauses which some companies include in their contracts. One developer who recently concluded his own period of non-competition is Shinji Mikami – the founder of Tango Gameworks. While it is unfortunate to see that Hideki Kamiya won’t be able to work on games for quite some time, hopefully the creator takes time to have a well-earned rest.

At this point, most popular online games rely on a seasonal battle pass model for recurring income. Diablo 4 is no exception, but while other battle passes give players enough in-game currency to purchase the next season's battle pass, the Diablo 4 battle pass doesn't even give players enough currency to buy the cheapest cosmetic item in the store.

As we saw with Overwatch 2's store, Blizzard is once again selling new cosmetic skins at pretty ridiculous prices, with armour sets costing as much as $25 in real-world currency. Completing all tiers of the battle pass in Diablo 4's first season will net you 666 Platinum, which is very on-brand for a Diablo game, but unfortunately, that amount is not enough to pick up even the cheapest item in the cosmetic store, as the lowest price is for an item is 800 Platinum.

Platinum is sold as a microtransaction currency in Diablo 4, with packs starting at 200 Platinum for £1.79, or 500 Platinum for £4.39, neither of which is enough to buy anything. For 1000 Platinum, you're looking at £8.39 and from there, things take a big jump, with the next pack being 2800 Platinum for £20.99.

As much as I have enjoyed Diablo 4 since launch and still enjoy the game to this day, the prices of in-game currency and skins, on top of the battle pass, is a bit much. The free tier cosmetics in the season pass are very low effort to boot.

Phanteks has recently announced the addition of the Revolt 1000W and 1200W Platinum, and 1600W Titanium PSUs to its lineup. The new Phanteks Revolt PSUs do not include any cables as they were designed to be paired with CableMod kits, giving users complete choice over their cable selection.

The new Revolt PSUs were designed in partnership with Seasonic to meet the highest industry performance and reliability criteria. All Revolt power supplies fully meet and surpass the newest Intel ATX 3.0 requirements, ensuring compatibility and simple integration into any system. These PSUs provide enough power for demanding systems, with wattage capabilities of up to 1600W and 80 Plus Platinum or Titanium certification.

Phanteks and CableMod collaborated to make cable choices easier for users constructing within Phanteks chassis. Users just need to visit CableMod's online configurator and choose their Revolt PSU, Phanteks case, and CableMod cables. As of now, only the following Phanteks chassis are currently supported, with more to come: Evolv X, G500A, P500A, P600A, and NV7. Support for the NV5 and NV9 will come at a later date.

The new Revolt PSUs and CableMod cable kits will be available starting in August. The Revolt 1000W Platinum models will go for £174.99/€199.90/$199.99 and the 1200W models for £214.99/€249.90/$249.99. As for the Revolt Titanium 1600W PSU, it will cost £344.99/€399.90/$399.99. The relative accessibility of digital gaming has allowed for far more titles to be published to online storefronts for much less cost than would be required if wanting to do so in a physical capacity. This has had its advantages and disadvantages – with the latter being that storefronts are now inundated with low-quality ‘shovelware’ games. Fortunately, Sony is taking action against this.

As reported by Dex Fragg of ‘dexdotexe’, Sony recently sent a letter to its all of its developers, notifying them that low-effort and shovelware titles will be shadowbanned or delisted, with developers actually being banned from publishing any future titles in the worst-case scenario.

While all platforms suffer from this issue to some degree, Sony’s Trophy achievements system has led to some games exploiting it for “cheap and easy Platinums.”

With the console manufacturer now offering its PlayStation Stars program (which can require the acquisition of game Trophies for points) it seems that Sony now perceives shovelware as more of an issue than a simple annoyance.

While some of the earliest ‘easy Platinums’ did offer some fun to be had, it now interferes with the PlayStation Store experience – and so it makes sense as to why Sony is finally doing something about it.

Babylon’s Fall served as a major gamble for PlatinumGames, with the action game intended to be a live service title with years of support. After a lackluster launch however, Babylon’s Fall was quickly killed – with PlatinumGames’ CEO finally commenting on it.

In an interview with VGC, PlatinumGames’ CEO Atsushi Inaba addressed Babylon’s Fall for the first time since it was announced that the game would be shutting down. Discussing this fact, Inaba first claimed that:

“The important thing that I want to note is that we’re not able to comment on certain areas of games developed with our partners. And that’s one of the reasons we’re not fond of our current situation that only limits us to game development, to be honest with you… in terms of any concrete reasons or the process that led to this conclusion of the title, you’d have to go ahead and ask Square Enix about the details, unfortunately.”

Despite being unable to go into concrete details regarding development, Inaba did address the fans, saying “The only thing we can comment on here in terms of the closure of the Babylon’s Fall service itself, is that this unfortunate conclusion might have been something that had triggered some disappointment, perhaps maybe even anger, to our dedicated fans and players.”

Inaba continued, “And any disappointment that we might have caused for our fan base is something we feel extremely sorry about, the fact that we led our dedicated fans to feel that way as a developer. Providing any sentiment other than enjoyment and fun in our creations to players is something that we’re not very happy about at all as a developer.”

Despite Babylon’s Fall’s failure, PlatinumGames intends to create more live-service games in the future, with Inaba stating “There’s a lot that we learned from this experience, and it’s not changed our future plans or outlook moving forward regarding doing live service games at all. Live service games are definitely something we do want to do and put our effort in moving forward”. The full interview can be found HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Inaba’s statement? Why do you think Babylon’s Fall failed? Would you still like to see PlatinumGames try to make a live-service title? Let us know down below.

Babylon’s Fall has yet to be released, however ahead of the game’s 3rd of March release date developer PlatinumGames has announced that Babylon’s Fall will be getting crossover content with NieR: Automata.

Early impressions of Babylon’s Fall have been somewhat negative, with overall interest towards the upcoming co-op action RPG seeming to be quite low. For the more than 6 million NieR: Automata fans who purchased the also-PlatinumGames developed title, however, a new incentive has been announced.

PlatinumGames has now announced that as part of Season 1 of Babylon’s Fall, the game will see a crossover event which changes the headquarters to be NieR: Automata themed, and will also include a NieR themed dungeon and NieR cosmetic rewards. Season 1 of Babylon's Fall will be free for all those buying the game, meaning that no content should be gated…hopefully.

NieR: Automata is one of Square Enix’s hottest properties, with 2B and friends crossing over in some capacity with over a dozen franchises, including Dragon Quest; Monster Hunter; Phantasy Star; Gravity Rush; Soul Calibur; Fall Guys and Final Fantasy.

While it may feel like a cheap tactic by some, the collaboration is likely to draw more eyes towards Babylon’s Fall. Hopefully the game ends up being good.

Since its founding in 2007, PlatinumGames has amassed a dedicated audience thanks in part to the studio’s focus on tight, responsive and flashy action games. That being said, the studio wants to be known for much more than simply this, with founder Hideki Kamiya saying “we don't want to be labelled as the action game company.”

In a recent interview with VGC, which covered all manner of topics, from live service titles to NFTs and blockchain, Hideki Kamiya was asked “Should fans of your past games be concerned that you're about to drastically shift focus?” alluding to the studio’s desire to make live service titles in order to allow “people to be able to enjoy our games for longer.”

In response, Kamiya claimed that “I think in terms of the expectations of fans in relation to linear action games like NieR and Bayonetta, we understand that we do get some respect for the action games that we've created, and we're always happy to hear that. But we don't want to be labelled as ‘the action game company', we want to be labelled as a company that is interested in original, fun gameplay.”

He then discussed the company’s upcoming free-form docking and shooting game, Sol Cresta, saying “Something like Sol Cresta isn't this black sheep, where it's totally different… it still feels like part of the family because at the end of the day, we feel that it's an original, fun thing that we wanted to do. I hope that with the things that we do in the future that philosophy will become more apparent to our fans.”

PlatinumGames has been known for its action titles. Perhaps a better way to think about the company now however, is their focus on fun and exciting gameplay. The full interview can be found HERE.

Babylon’s Fall has had an interesting development. Originally announced all the way back in 2019, the game was initially met with excitement. Unfortunately, a more recent trailer was met with great skepticism due to what appeared to be ugly and unclear graphics. The team at PlatinumGames clearly took this to heart, as they have now announced that Babylon’s Fall looks much nicer.

Making the announcement on their blog, the Team at PlatinumGames addressed those partaking in the ongoing closed Beta, saying “Firstly, we would like to report on the ongoing improvements to the graphics. This was an area we received many strong opinions and requests about in Phases 1 and 2 of the Closed Beta Test, particularly regarding poor visibility. Accordingly, we have been working to improve the overall visual clarity, while still keeping the distinctive classic fantasy oil painting aesthetic.”

As can be seen from the comparison, the game looks much clearer while still adhering to the artstyle. This improvement was necessary, as PlatinumGames’ combat style can look messy if not taken into consideration with the graphics.

Speaking of combat, “In Phases 1 and 2 of the Closed Beta Test, we also received feedback from many players about gameplay, noting requests to address sluggish movement and low responsiveness, as well as a general lack of excitement. As mentioned in our previous report, the action elements of the game will be getting major tweaks and adjustments.”

Babylon’s Fall’s expectations have been all over the place, with excitement, then disappointment, and now leaning towards excitement again. It is good to see PlatinumGames making sweeping improvements to the game. Hopefully the final product is as refined as possible.

Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB (White) DDR4-3600MHz 32GB https://www.kitguru.net/components/memory/luke-hill/corsair-dominator-platinum-rgb-white-ddr4-3600mhz-32gb-review/ https://www.kitguru.net/components/memory/luke-hill/corsair-dominator-platinum-rgb-white-ddr4-3600mhz-32gb-review/#respond Tue, 04 Aug 2020 14:49:32 +0000 https://www.kitguru.net/?p=479841 Is this the sexiest ram ever made? We think so

The post Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB (White) DDR4-3600MHz 32GB first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Corsair recently launched a new version of the high-end Dominator Platinum RGB modules – this time with a white colour scheme for the heatspreaders and touches of gold for the fins. Sporting the same dozen Capellix RGB LEDs as the black Dominator Platinum RGB modules, we are looking at a 4x8GB kit with 3600C18 specifications.

The key difference between Corsair’s newest Dominator Platinum RGB memory modules and the ones currently on the market is, obviously, the colour scheme.

These new sticks use a white colour scheme for the anodized aluminium heatspreader and Corsair has made effort to change the letting to display “Dominator Platinum // RGB” rather than “Corsair”, as used for the black kit.

The creamy white coloured heatspreader is extremely premium in every aspect – from uniformity of the white colouring to the consistency and angles of the lettering.

Also adjusted for the white modules is the colouring of the heat fins sat atop the heatspreader. These are now coloured gold to superbly contrast the white heatspreaders. Light diffuser chunks sit between groups of the gold fins and are realistically barely visible, which is a good thing.

Corsair’s attention to detail is commendable and that point is typified with the use of gold coloured hex screws to join the main heatspreader with the die-cast zinc alloy top bar. It is a small touch and one that may seem obvious with hindsight. However, it highlights the attention to detail that Corsair (rightfully) attaches to its flagship line of memory modules. Kudos.

It is not all plain sailing, though. The modules’ biggest positive – their design – is also a clear downfall to many users who will be unable to deal with their 56mm height. Use an AIO inside a mid-tower chassis? The height probably will not be an issue. Use a large air cooler or a mini-ITX case with limited clearance? You are going to be in a world of pain when it comes to interference headaches.

Anecdotally, I had to remove a fan from a Corsair 280mm AIO when testing with the Dominator Platinum RGB modules recently. This was inside a Fractal Meshify S2 chassis which is by no means small. The sheer height of the RAM modules meant that the top mounted AIO radiator and fan caused interference and resulted in the fan being removed.

That is hardly a reasonable 24/7 solution.

Focussing on the 12 Capellix RGB LEDs on the modules, these are the same as is used for the black Dominator Platinum RGB sticks that Leo examined last year. The 0.2mm3 Capellix LEDs are brighter, more power efficient, and longer lasting than conventional LEDs, according to Corsair.

That reduced power consumption point is important in preventing thermal throttling, not that we would typically worry about such an issue for RAM modules. The more important feature of Capellix LEDs is the higher brightness levels that minimises the requirement for a large diffuser strip that we see on competing memory modules.

Unsurprisingly, management of the LEDs is handled by Corsair’s superb iCUE software suite.

You get the usual affair of RGB lighting control, including smart modes such as temperature-driven colour schemes. Users of an ASUS motherboard, such as the one for our test system, will also be pleased by Corsair and ASUS’ partnership for iCUE LED control as of early this year.

The ability to sync the Dominator Platinum RGB memory with our ASUS X570 motherboard worked very well in our testing and is an undeniably clean approach to the common RGB colour scheme synchronisation.

Aside from the core RGB LED control systems, iCUE offers some smart features. For one, you can manually change the positioning of each module as installed in your system. This allows for the lighting style to be operating as intended.

There is also temperature sensor data fed through from each module and this can be displayed graphically. This temperature data can then be used to trigger a specific LED colour notification, if desired. On top of all this smart activity is a simple page dedicated to highlighting the operating frequency and primary timings of the memory kit.

In my opinion, the way in which Corsair integrates the Dominator Platinum RGB memory modules within the iCUE suite is about as good as it gets.

Corsair provides a variety of kits for the Dominator Platinum RGB white modules. The specific kit that we are testing with is a 32GB (4x8GB) set with 3600MHz operating speed and 18-19-19-39 timings at 1.35V.

3600MHz is a good go-to frequency for premium memory modules in today’s market, especially with the benefits of running this clock rate with AMD Zen 2 processors. With that said, 18-19-19-39 is not a particularly tight set of timings for such a premium kit. We will have to see how this influences performance.

Also of interest is how the Micron E-die memory chips used on our sampled modules compare against Samsung B-die competition, and how they overclock. Let’s take a closer look.

Specifications:

  • Model Number: CMT32GX4M4C3600C18W
  • Capacity: 32GB (4x 8GB)
  • Rated Frequency: DDR4-3600MHz

Platinum Games currently has many titles cooking in the kitchen. One of these is Babylon’s Fall, a unique-looking seemingly lore-heavy hack ‘n slash. Announced back at E3 2018, the game has since seen very little in the way of development updates. Previously, Platinum Games promised that it would have more to share during the Summer of 2020. Unfortunately, it now appears as though that is no longer the case.

Taking to Twitter, the official Babylon’s Fall account released a statement saying:

Thank you to all fans who've been following along for updates on BABYLON'S FALL. While we hoped to reveal more about the game this summer, we can share that development on BABYLON'S FALL is continuing to progress well, with the team working safely from home. SQUARE ENIX and Platinum Games are committed to delivering an exhilarating experience and we look forward to showcasing much more on BABYLON'S FALL to you as soon as we can.

As mentioned, Babylon’s Fall was first announced back at E3 2018, with the release set for some time in 2019. Later, during PlayStation’s December 2019 State of Play, Platinum Games released a new trailer for the game – though also confirmed that it would not be hitting its targeted release date.

At the time, more information was promised for Summer 2019. Though no specific reason for the lack of a development update was provided, it is safe to assume that COVID-19 and the global pandemic have been partially responsible for this announcement delay.

Currently, Platinum Games are developing three titles: Babylon’s Fall, Bayonetta 3, and Project G.G – none of which have a release date. It’ll be interesting to see when Platinum Games provides its next update on these titles, and which one will release first.

Back in early February we reported on PlatinumGames’ new ‘Platinum4’ initiative, which saw the company promise to make four new announcements in succession. The first was revealed to be The Wonderful 101 Remastered, the second was announced to be ‘Project G.G’ and third was the unveiling of the company’s new studio. We now know that the fourth and final announcement is set to be revealed on the 1st of April, and is said to be a “doozy.”

When PlatinumGames first announced its Platinum4 initiative, the studio published a website dedicated to the event. With each new announcement, the site has been updated to include further details on these. Previously, future announcements were listed as simply ‘coming soon’, though the fourth and final announcement has now been given a “04.01” unveiling date.

Little to nothing is known about this announcement, aside from the company’s Executive Vice president, Atsushi Inaba, claiming thatThe last one [announcement] is a secret. We’re doing something very Platinum and interesting. Look forward to it,” and that according to Hideki Kamiya himself, it’s a “doozy.”

The first announcement, which was revealed on the 3rd of February, turned out to be the launch of the Wonderful 101’s Kickstarter. The second announcement came three weeks later and was the unveiling of Project G.G. – the next game by Hideki Kamiya and the first to to be fully published by PlatinumGames. The third announcement came just one day later, and was the opening of the company's second studio ‘PlatinumGames Tokyo’. Since then, the company has remained relatively quiet, although it looks like we’ll soon find out what the Platinum4 has been building towards. Only time will tell.

The Corsair SF450 Platinum offers higher efficiency than its Gold predecessor and it is also bundled with a SFX-to-ATX bracket. The question we will answer today is should you pay more to get the Platinum model or is it better to save some money and go for the Gold model instead?’

Corsair wants to turn things around in the SFX form factor category with new SF Platinum units which are sold in 450W and 600W capacities with a 750W model on the way. We have already evaluated the SF600 Platinum which left a very good impression on us and the time has come for the SF450 Platinum to be laid bare in our test labs.

The Corsair SF450 Platinum shares the same cable configuration with the 600W model which is unusual, as the larger wattage models are normally equipped with additional cables and connectors. Both units are fully modular of course. They are cooled down by fans measuring 92mm in diameter – the largest that an SFX unit can accommodate. By using the largest possible fan, Corsair promises to bring the noise output down even under tough conditions. A quality 92mm fan is able to provide the same airflow as a 80mm fan but at lower speeds – which means less noise emissions.

The most important difference with the previous Gold SF line (which will remain in production), is the efficiency increase which was upgraded from 80 PLUS Gold to 80 PLUS Platinum. In the Cybenetics database both lines fall into the ETA-A efficiency category, however there are notable differences in the noise output, mostly for the 600W SF models.

Obviously the higher efficiency allows for a more relaxed fan profile. In the majority of cases SFX power supplies are noisier compared to ATX models, because of the overpopulated PCBs which don't allow for optimal airflow. Nonetheless, lately the major brands and manufacturers have worked hard to offer lower noise operation in compact platforms as well.

Given the increased interest of all major brands in this category lately, we are curious to see the first passive SFX unit to hit the market, especially since a while ago we had the chance to evaluate the first passive SFX-L model, the SilverStone Nightjar NJ450-SXL.

Corsair has strengthened its ties with OEM partner Great Wall in the last couple of years and this is welcomed, because due to this tight cooperation the performance bar in the SFX category has reached new levels – which a while ago seemed impossible for such small designs.

All popular protection features are present and the 92mm rifle bearing fan is supported by a semi-passive mode, which unfortunately cannot be deactivated. This means that you should not install this unit with its fan facing downwards as you will trap the hot air internally and this will put quite a strain on the platform's sensitive components (e.g. the electrolytic caps).

The compact dimensions classify this product in the SFX form factor, while it also meets the EPS 2.92 specification requirements. Finally, the provided warranty is seven years.

4 pin Molex (100mm+105mm+105mm) 1 3 18AWG No
AC Power Cord (1400mm) 1 1 18AWG

As we already mentioned, the cable configuration is exactly the same as the SF600 Platinum, which is odd since a single EPS and two PCIe connectors might be enough for 450W but they definitely don't allow a 600W power supply to fully exploit its capacity.

The length of the ATX, EPS and peripheral cables is short since this unit will be most likely installed into a small chassis, although Corsair provides an ATX-to-SFX adapter in the bundle allowing you to use it in any ATX chassis. Strangely enough the pair of PCIe cables is very long at 700mm, clearly standing out from all the rest.

The distance between the peripheral connectors is small at 105mm, however this won't create any problems inside a small chassis where all components are close to each other. Finally, it is nice to see 16 AWG gauges in a 450W unit and the lack of in-cable caps is an asset as well, since most users hate seeing them in PSU cables, because they make those cables difficult to work with.

Corsair's all-in-one liquid coolers continue to be some of the most popular around. Today, the best-selling Hydro series is getting an upgrade, with Corsair announcing the Hydro H100i RGB Platinum and the H115i RGB Platinum, improving in both form and function.

Both the Platinum H100i and Platinum H115i come paired with Corsair's ML Pro series of RGB magnetic levitation PWM fans, which offer high static pressure and low friction thanks to the magnetic bearings. The H100i comes with two 120mm fans and a 240mm radiator while the new H115i comes with 140mm and a slightly thicker 280mm radiator.

Beyond that, both coolers come with a new copper cold plate, a low-noise pump design and zero-RPM fan profiles which are controllable by software. According to Corsair, users will get precise PWM control over the fans, so you can set the curve however you like.

Fans aren't the only thing getting an upgrade though. These are RGB coolers but the lighting has been upgraded, featuring 16 individually addressable LEDs for greater customisation and colour control. There are four additional ‘addressable RGB' LEDs found in each fan. Using Corsair iCUE, users will be able to change lighting however they see fit, including profiles based on CPU temperature, or different patterns and effects. As you would expect, lighting profiles can by synced across all iCUE compatible devices, including RAM, mice and keyboards.

Both the Corsair Hydro RGB Platinum H100i and Platinum H115i will be available starting today. Here in the UK, the H100i will retail for £124.99 while the H115i will go for £139.99.

KitGuru Says: I've switched to a custom water loop in my system, so it has been a while since I've used an AIO cooler. Are any of you currently thinking about upgrading your CPU cooler? Are you tempted by the new Platinum range from Corsair?

The post New Intel 28-core, 56-thread Xeons imminent first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Intel has released a Product Change Notification (PCN) document informing would-be customers of its new Xeon CPU models. Apart from announcing new server CPUs, the PCN also heralds a new tier system for the segment.

The long list includes a listing of 45 Xeon processors, including 11 Xeon Phi MIC-architecture co-processing units. The Xeon CPUs proper, though, range from the high-end Xeon Platinum 8180 CPU (containing 28 CPU cores / 56 threads, running at 2.5 GHz and sporting a total cache of 38.5 MB), down to the Xeon Gold 5122, rumoured to have 12 cores and 24 threads. The new Skylake-SP (or EP, depending on who you ask), are reported to contain 1MB of L2 cache per core.

The new tier system, which Intel had been rumoured to be adopting, breaks Xeons into four segments: “Platinum”, “Gold”, “Silver” and “Bronze”. The Platinum tier identifies the 8-socket 8xxx-series, the Gold identifies the 4-socket 6xxx- and 5xxx-series CPUs, the Xeon Silver corresponds to the 4xxx-series dual-socket systems and Xeon Bronze is reported to be the 3xxx-series uniprocessors.

Purley, Intel's new server platform, which uses yet another socket (LGA 3647), has been scheduled for a Q2 release for a while, and taking into consideration the type of CPUs this PCN discloses, this is clearly aimed at the datacenter / HPC segment which AMD Naples will eventually come to, rather than Ryzen or any other HEDT SKU. No conspiracy theories there.

Unfortunately Intel has not provided any additional information about the 4xxx- and 3xxx- series Xeons.

While Intel has not yet officially announced the CPUs, some stores are already listing them – no technical details, but pricing available. The Xeon Platinum 8180 costs a whopping £9600, while the ‘M’ variant, costs north of £12500. The cheapest CPU on the list, the 3.6GHz Xeon Gold 5122 costs over £1150.

KitGuru Says: Skylake EP/SP is on the verge of hitting the market as planned. AMD has nothing yet to fight it off, and it has been notoriously quiet on the Naples front.

AMD launched their Lynx platform a couple of weeks back and we had a look at the top-end Vision A8-3850 APU and the Asus F1A75-M Pro motherboard in detail over here. We were very impressed with the overall performance of the platform, especially when factoring in the excellent graphics capabilities.

Today we are going to look at Sapphire's first attempt at a Lynx motherboard, the Pure Platinum A75. As it's name suggests, this sports the top-end A75 FCH (Fusion Controller Hub) and, as a result, it boasts an impressive specification which includes an array of SATA 6G ports and USB3.0 support. Unlike the Asus motherboard we looked at, the Sapphire A75 makes use of the full-size ATX form factor, rather than Micro ATX.

We have looked at a couple of Sapphire's motherboards in the past and have been left with generally positive impressions. Is the Pure Platinum A75 another strong release from AMD's largest partner?
