Samsung has released plenty of high-speed portable SSDs over the years but the company is looking to impress data hoarders in particular with its latest. The new Samsung T5 EVO delivers almost 4X the transfer speeds of an external HDD and up to 8TB of storage capacity.

The Samsung T5 EVO provides up to 8TB of storage capacity and enhanced speeds over a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface. Compared to an external HDD, this portable SSD offers 3.8X faster transfer speeds, topping out at 460MB/s, putting it in a similar ballpark to a SATA SSD.

Of course, if you are carrying your data around with you, you'll also want to make sure it is secure and protected. The compact and light design of the T5 EVO makes it easy to hold in one hand, while the metal body and rubberised surface will protect your data from shock damage should you ever drop it.

The Samsung T5 EVO Portable SSD will be available in 2TB, 4TB and 8TB capacity options, priced at £159.99, £294.99 and £538.99 respectively.

Samsung's latest external SSD is the Portable SSD T9, the long-awaited successor to the popular T7. With a USB 3.2 Gen 2 x2 interface it offers twice the performance of the old T7. We review the 4TB model, coming in at just over £360 here in the UK.

At launch, the T9 range consists of three capacities; 1TB, 2TB and the flagship 4TB model we are reviewing here. What's inside the T9 is anybody's guess as Samsung hasn't released any details regarding the controller or the VNAND.

Thanks to its USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface, Samsung quotes performance figures for the range as up to 2,000MB/s for reads across the range while the 1TB and 2TB drives get an up to 1,950MB/s rating for writes. The 4TB drive is a little faster at up to 2,000MB/s.

The drive supports AES 256-bit hardware encryption and is drop-resistant to 3m. Samsung quote power figures for the 4TB T9 as 0.67W idle power and up to 7.3W peak power

Samsung backs the drive with a 5-year warranty which is an improvement over the T7 which only got three years.

Back when the Xbox Series X/S consoles launched, Seagate launched its 1TB NVMe PCIe 4.0 expansion card SSD. Now, Xbox console owners will have another option for speedy expandable storage, as Seagate has now launched the 1TB Xbox SSD Game Drive.

While the expansion card plugs directly into the back of an Xbox Series X/S console, the Game Drive SSD uses a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface for universal compatibility. The SSD comes in a lightweight and slim design with an illuminating Xbox green LED bar.

Setting the SSD up takes less than two minutes through the Xbox OS. Key features include USB 3.2 Gen 1 compatibility, compatibility with the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Xbox One and of course, 1TB capacity, so you'll have plenty of extra room to store games.

Seagate's Game Drive for Xbox SSD comes with a three-year warranty and three years of Rescue Data Recovery Services. The drive launches today, priced at £144.99.

ADATA has announced a new external SSD series due to be launched very soon. The SE760 external SSD features a stylish design in a compact form factor that makes it easily portable and offers high-speed data transfer rates via a USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface.

A compact and streamlined design means the ADATA SE760 external SSD is ideal for busy users while on the go. The SE760 external SSD has a sleek looking, brushed metal exterior finish for a premium appearance. With a USB 3.2 GEN 2 interface, the SE760 offers read/write speeds of up to 1000MB/s, which is over 12x faster than traditional external HDDs.

This high-speed interface means the ADATA SE760 external SSD can transfer a 10GB 4K video file in approximately twenty seconds. Simple connectivity to a wide range of devices is provided via a USB Type-C connector, so there’s no wrong way around to connect the cable like there is with older USB connections.

The device also features other useful advantages including shock and vibration resistance and has a completely silent operation. The SE760 external SSD is fully plug and play compatible with Windows, Mac OS and Android platforms, which means that users can seamlessly transfer files between different operating systems without limits.

Capacity options of the ADATA SE760 external SSD include 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. The device is available in two different colour variants, Titan-Grey and black, with dimensions of 122.2mm x 44mm x 14mm (L x W x H) and it weighs in at just 95g, which makes it ultra-portable. Official pricing and availability have not been disclosed just yet, however, the device will be provided with a limited 3-year manufacturer warranty.
