April is approaching fast, which means it is time for a new wave of PlayStation Plus titles. Starting from early next month, PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to claim three games, including the EA-published Immortals of Aveum.

The three games included with PS+ Essential next month include Immortals of Aveum (PS5), Minecraft Legends (PS4/PS5) and Skul: The Hero Slayer (PS4).

Immortals of Aveum is a fantasy first-person game, blending magic spells with FPS combat for high-octane action with fast and fluid animations. The game was largely overshadowed at release due to major games like Baldur's Gate 3, Starfield and Spider-Man 2 all following in quick succession. However, as a freebie, it should offer a decent amount of playtime. Beyond that, it offers a good look at the graphical improvements coming this generation thanks to Unreal Engine 5.

Minecraft Legends is a spin-off game from Mojang, offering action-strategy gameplay where players must put a stop to the ravaging piglins roaming the land. Some of the strategy elements come into play when building fortifications to protect your village.

Finally, we have Skul: The Hero Slayer, a charming indie game in which you play as a lowly skeleton Skul, looking to save your brethren from an attack on the demon king's castle.

There is one last surprise for PS+ Essential subscribers in April. A new Overwatch 2 ‘Mega Bundle' will be available to claim, containing ten new character skins at no extra cost, alongside five Battle Pass tier skips.

Earlier this week, a leak revealed that Sifu would be amongst the games coming to PlayStation Plus in March. Now, Sony has confirmed the full line-up, with PS+ subscribers set to get four games next month rather than the usual three.

Sony has announced that EA Sports F1 23 (PS4/PS5), SIFU (PS4/PS5), Hello Neighbor 2 (PS4/PS5) and Destiny 2: The Witch Queen (PS4/PS5) will be free to claim for PS+ subscribers starting on the 5th of March. These are PS+ Essential titles, so those on the cheapest or more expensive PS+ tiers will be able to claim all four games on their account. The next batch of PS+ Extra and Premium titles should arrive

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is good to have if you claimed Beyond Light back when that expansion was offered on PS+. It is, in my opinion, the best expansion for Destiny 2, which makes the shortcomings of its follow-up, Lightfall, hurt that much more. The final expansion in this current era of Destiny, The Final Shape, is releasing later this year.

Hello Neighbor 2 is an indie gem and well worth playing if you like stealth, horror and puzzle solving. Meanwhile, SIFU is without a doubt the best game on offer for March. This fighting game focuses entirely on martial arts combat and the way it is handled is impeccable, although it is also a very difficult game at points so go in with some patience as you learn the mechanics.

Last year, the President and CEO of PlayStation Jim Ryan announced that he would be retiring from the company come this March. With his 30-year tenure at Sony set to end soon, the executive has revealed the most challenging moments of his career.

In an interview with Variety, the soon-to-be ex CEO of PlayStation spoke on his career at PlayStation, saying “I'm just so grateful that I didn't work in a boring industry.”

That said, Ryan also shared the greatest challenge he faced over the decades – that being the navigation of the 2020 global pandemic, stating: “It was my job to exude a sense of calm and serenity. Actually, I was there at my dining-room table, head in my hands, wondering how we were going to do this.”

Ryan continued, “We assemble the great majority of the PlayStations in China, and nobody could get in. Finishing games when developers couldn't get together and eat pizza and brainstorm about their craft was another thing. And then, the not-unimportant task of selling our product to our consumers when retail was entirely closed.”

When asked to give some parting advice for the next generation of PlayStation bosses, Ryan offered a compelling message: “Never forget that we're an entertainment business. If we continue to entertain, delight and surprise our community of gamers, I think Totoki-san and whoever follows him will be just fine.”

Despite his retirement, Jim Ryan appears to still have some plans in the works for his future, revealing that “I still have huge resources of energy and passion that I'm looking forward to deploying in some slightly different ways. I've got a few things bubbling. I can't say what they are — but I am going to take my life in a little different direction.”

While perhaps not the most player-facing boss in the company’s history, there’s no denying that Jim Ryan helped to elevate the PlayStation brand to new heights, seeing more success than ever. Hopefully Sony does not forget Ryan’s parting words.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Ryan’s time as CEO? What do you reckon he’ll do next? Is he leaving PlayStation in a good place? Let us know your thoughts down below.

We've entered a new month which means it is time for a new PlayStation Plus update. For February, PS+ Essential subscribers can expect three new games, including Square Enix's new Splatoon-inspired shooter, Foamstars.

Foamstars was announced during a PlayStation Showcase last year as one of Sony's major upcoming live service games for PS5. While Nintendo's shooter, Splatoon, has players running around with paint guns, Square Enix's Foamstars replaces this with colourful foam and takes on more of an anime aesthetic. The game will be launching day-one into PS+, likely in hopes of attracting millions of players swiftly, just as Rocket League did back in the day.

The second game joining the PS+ Essential library this month is Rollerdrome, a highly-praised indie game from Roll7, combining fast movement and fluid motion with visceral combat. It is a shooter-skater hybrid and is pretty unique in the shooter space.

The final game coming to PS+ this month is Steelrising, a PS5-only title set in an alternate history verion of Paris, in which the French Revolution was suppressed by a robotic army.

Subscribers will get a bonus perk this month too, with a new Fall Guys Icons Pack, offering skins for characters like Ratchet, Clank and Aloy. If you happen to be a PS+ Premium or Deluxe member, you'll also get access to a two-hour free trial for Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

All of these new PS+ games and perks will be available to claim starting on the 6th of February.

While Sony has been a bit more apprehensive than Microsoft when it comes to going all-in on game subscription services, the company’s relatively new PlayStation Plus Extra tier has served as a great way to bring older first-party titles to more players. Unfortunately, according to Sony this has had a notable and “big effect” on traditional game sales.

Shared by ResetEra user ‘Macca’, as part of a presentation by Sony the console manufacturer revealed that their relatively recent strategy of bringing first-party titles to PlayStation Plus has negatively impacted sales of the included games, saying:

“It is very clear that inclusion into PS+ has had a big effect on traditional sales. The below graph shows the Daily Game Activations for HZD and HFW. In Year 1, HZD and HFW were very comparable. HFW was included into PS+ at the start of Year 2. HFW saw an enormous influx of PS+ players, but at the cost of flat-lining the Game Activations from Retail Sales.”

Of course, it is worth noting that other external factors have seemingly not been accounted for. Unlike with Horizon Forbidden West, Zero Dawn consistently went on sale offering rather deep discounts. Forbidden West meanwhile has remained much closer to its launch price.

That said, there is no denying that someone who completes a game through PS Plus is unlikely to then go and purchase that title separately. With Sony still leaning in on traditional game sales (unlike Microsoft), it will be interesting to see whether this analysis ends up affecting the company’s future plans for the service.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Sony’s statement? Do you think PS Plus has been worth it? Will Sony backtrack their decision to add games to PS Plus? Let us know down below.

The final PS+ update of the year has arrived. For December, Sony is delivering a final batch of three games to PS+ Essential subscribers, including one PS5 title and two cross-gen titles.

Starting on December 5th until January 1st, PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to claim three titles – Lego 2K Drive (PS4/PS5), Powerwash Simulator (PS4/PS5) and Sable (PS5).

Lego 2K Drive is a fairly recent release, having launched in May of this year for all platforms. This is a third-person Lego racer, with freely explorable open areas, as well as destructible environments.

Powerwash Simulator may not be a title that immediately sparks excitement but it is worth noting that this is a game with quite the cult following. It is one of the few 10/10 releases on Steam, with overwhelmingly positive reviews. The game has multiple DLCs, allowing you to clean up environments from famous franchises like Tomb Raider and Back to the Future, and it features multiplayer, so you can powerwash away with friends.

The final game on the list is Sable, which began life as a highly promoted Xbox game but did launch across all platforms eventually. The game incorporates a unique cell-shaded art style that almost looks like a coloured manga jumping out from the page. You'll travel through the world on your customisable hoverbike, encounter platforming and puzzle sections, go fishing in the desert and discover remnants of past civilisations. It's an indie game with a lot of charm and I think it is well worth picking up.

KitGuru Says: What do you think of this month's selection of PS+ games? There might not be any big Triple-A bangers here, but the indie selection is very decent, particularly Sable.

We've reached a new month which means it is time for a new batch of PlayStation+ games. This month, those subscribed to PS+ will get three games – two PS4 titles and one PS5 game, although all three can be played on PS5 through backwards compatibility.

First up on the list is Mafia 2 Definitive Edition, which originally released as part of a remastered Mafia trilogy. The remaster was well received but not as comprehensive of a remake as some fans had hoped for.

Next on the list is Dragonball: The Breakers, a more recent release focused on multiplayer, rather than retelling the Dragon Ball Z story. In this game, one person plays as one of the series' primary villains and is tasked with hunting down the good guys. Over the course of a game, you'll be able to power up and evolve into one of the higher forms for Frieza, Majin Buu or Cell. Survivors will be tasked with escaping and fending off the villain by collecting power keys to obtain the abilities of a key Dragon Ball hero character. These super moves can be used to hold off an attack and escape.

Finally, Aliens Fireteam Elite is also available to PS+ subscribers this month. In this game, you'll be co-oping with up to two players or AI to battle your way through four campaigns set on the planet LV-895. You can use unique perks and weapons to take on the Xenomorphs and blast through hordes.

These games will be available to all PS+ subscribers on all tiers starting on the 6th of November. Until then, you can still claim October's PS+ games, including Weird West, The Callisto Protocol and Farming Simulator 22.

Earlier this week, seven games heading to PS+ Extra and Premium members leaked. Now a few days later, Sony has announced the full list. As the leaks showed, games like Gotham Knights and Disco Elysium The Final Cut are on the way, but there are a couple of surprises too. Additionally, the next batch of Classic titles for PS+ Premium members has been revealed.

Starting on the 17th of October, PS+ Extra members will be able to download and play Gotham Knights, Disco Elysium: The Final Cut, The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes, Alien Isolation, Dead Island Definitive Edition, Outlast II, Elite Dangerous, FAR: Changing Tides, Gungrave Gore, Eldest Souls and Roki.

As you can tell from the list, there is a running horror theme here just in time for Halloween later this month.

PS+ Premium subscribers will get access to a few more classic games as well, including Tekken 6, Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny, Ape Escape Academy and IQ Final.

Sony has had a very busy week, with several announcements all dropping this week. Aside from new PS+ titles, Sony has also unveiled the new, slimmer PS5, launching later this year, as well as PS5 Game Streaming, a new feature that will enable PS+ Premium subscribers to access PS5 games over the cloud.

Sony is on a bit of an announcement spree this week. After unveiling the PS5 Slim last night, today the company is officially announcing the launch of PS5 Game Streaming, finally allowing customers to stream PS5 titles without having to download them.

While on Xbox, Cloud Game Streaming is limited to supported titles available on Game Pass, on PlayStation, you will be able to stream supported games in your own digital library. The catch is, in order to use this feature, you will need PS+ Premium, which is also necessary for streaming older PS3-era titles. PS5 Game Streaming will also be available for Game Trials, so if you want to quickly check out a game before purchasing, and don't want to sit through a lengthy download, you can skip straight to the action – as long as your internet connection is up to it.

PS5 Game Streaming will roll out in stages, starting off in Japan on the 17th of October, Europe on the 23rd of October and the US starting on the 30th of October. We don't have the full list of supported PS5 games for streaming yet, but titles like Horizon Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, Mortal Kombat 11, Saints Row IV, Resident Evil 4, Dead Island 2, Genshin Impact and Fortnite will be amongst the first.

If you own DLC or other in-game items, these will also be accessible via the cloud.  Users will also have quick options to switch between quality options, allowing users to select 720p, 1080p, 1440p or 4K streaming quality at up to 60FPS, as well as toggles to enable or disable HDR.

For now, PS5 Game Streaming will be available exclusively on PS5 consoles but eventually, this offering could spread to other platforms like PC and mobile.

KitGuru Says: From a feature standpoint, Sony's offering here is strong and has a few advantages versus Xbox Cloud Gaming. However, we'll have to wait and see how viable the underlying tech is once it becomes available to the masses.

Advertising errors on console stores are nothing new. We've previously seen a number of major games mistakenly listed as available through Game Pass on Xbox for instance. A recent image change on the PlayStation Store is now hinting at The Last of Us Part II for PS+ Extra and Premium subscribers, but a reliable leaker claims it won't be coming in October.

As shared on Reddit, one UK PS5 owner saw an advert for PlayStation Plus Deluxe on their system and in the leading image, we can see Ellie from The Last of Us Part II, alongside Aloy from Horizon Forbidden West, as well as promotional art for Hogwarts Legacy.

This could hint at The Last of Us Part II being considered for the PS+ Extra library. However, regular PS+ monthly games leaker, Bilbil-Kun, says that the game is not amongst the list of titles coming to PS+ Extra or Premium in October.

This does not mean that the game isn't planned to arrive on the service at a later date. However, looking at the promo image seen, we also see Hogwarts Legacy, another game that is not available on PS+ Extra or Premium. Given that this is one of the highest selling games of the year, we don't expect to see Hogwarts Legacy on a subscription service at any point this year.

With all of that in mind, this could well be an issue with the ad rotation service for the PS Store, rather than a true leak. Another piece of evidence pointing to this outcome is the advertised service itself. PS+ Deluxe is only offered in a few regions where cloud streaming is unavailable. Here in the UK, we have PS+ Premium and not Deluxe, indicating that an error has occurred somewhere along the way.

KitGuru Says: The Last of Us Part II is pretty old at this point, so adding it to PS+ Extra for a boost makes plenty of sense. However, there are a lot of question marks around this leak, so it is far from a sure thing.

The most recent batch of PS+ Essential titles recently became available and now it is time to turn our attention to this month's update for PS+ Extra and Premium subscribers. The higher PS+ tiers include access to an evolving library of games. Despite rumours that The Last of Us Part II would be joining the service this month, it turns out that is not the case.

Bilbil-Kun has leaked PS+ line-ups with perfect accuracy for years. In their most recent Dealabs post, they confirm that The Last of Us Part II is not part of the October PS+ Extra or Premium line-ups. However, we will be getting roughly 20 new games this month, with Sony planning to announce them officially on the 11th of October.

The eight confirmed titles coming this month include:

  • Gotham Knights
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes
  • Disco Elysium The Final Cut
  • Far: Changing Tides
  • Gungrave GORE
  • Elite Dangerous
  • Dead Island Definitive Edition
  • Alien Isolation

Of this group, Gotham Knights might be the biggest game addition and the timing makes sense too, as the game also recently dropped on Xbox Game Pass. With it being October, the additions of games like Alien Isolation, The Dark Pictures Anthology and Dead Island make perfect sense.

PS+ Extra and Premium titles for October will become available on the 17th.

KitGuru Says: Based on what has been revealed so far, October could be a down month for PS+ Extra subscribers. However, with less than half of the total planned games being revealed, there is plenty of room for Sony to surprise us.

Just 24 hours on from the latest PS+ monthly games leak, Sony has now officially announced the line-up for October. As previously reported, The Callisto Protocol and Farming Simulator will be free to claim for PS+ Essential subscribers next month and there is a third game joining them.

The Callisto Protocol was a particularly hyped up PlayStation console exclusive in 2022, although it did ultimately launch to mixed reception. That combined with some controversy around the game's season pass and overall performance led to lower than expected sales. However, now with the game being free for PS+ subscribers many who had been holding off on the game may give it a proper go for the first time.

Farming Simulator 22 is last year's game in the long running simulation series. Farming Simulator 23 launched back in May of this year, so we'd expect the enthusiast audience that follows the series closely have already made the jump to this year's game. However, those who have never tried a Farming Simulator game can now jump into a modern version on PlayStation without having to pay extra beyond the subscription price.

The final game heading to PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers this month is Weird West, developed by WolfEye Studios, which was co-founded by former Arkane Studios developer, Raphaël Colantonio.

All three games are available in their PS4 and PS5 versions and will be claimable for PS+ subscribers starting on the 3rd of October.

There will be a new batch of games announced for PS+ subscribers next week and like most months, they have leaked ahead of time. Surprisingly, The Callisto Protocol will be headlining, less than a year after the hyped horror game's launch.

The Callisto Protocol released in December last year to mixed reception. Prior to launch, the game had a lot of hype behind it, in part due to it coming from the creator of Dead Space at his new studio. However, Glen Schofield has since left Striking Distance, leaving the studio's future in limbo. From the sounds of it, we won't be getting a Callisto Protocol 2.

The Callisto Protocol will be free for PS+ Essential subscribers to claim starting on the 3rd of October. It will be joined by Farming Simulator 22 and a mysterious third game. While Bilbil-Kun used to release full line-up leaks, they have since decided to only reveal a few key games for each PS+ update, rather than the full slate. Still, the accuracy of the reports has not changed.

Sony should be officially announcing the next round of PS+ titles later this week.

KitGuru Says: Due to the mixed reception at launch, I haven't tried The Callisto Protocol for myself yet but I'm very much looking forward to giving it an install now that it is coming to PS+. Will you be downloading it in October?

We're due for another PS+ library update very soon for Extra and Premium subscribers. Ahead of Sony's official announcement likely arriving on Wednesday, a leaker has revealed the PS+ Extra line-up for September and it is a pretty stacked update.

Many gamers have likely heard of billbil-kun. This leaker regularly posts game deals and leaks for titles heading to services like PS+. As far as PS+ goes, this person has a very high rate of accuracy, so these leaks are generally trusted. This time around, they have revealed six of the games heading to PS+ Extra subscribers, although the official list of new games is likely to include a few extras not mentioned in the leak. Additionally, we know that PS+ Premium subscribers will get cloud access to at least one new game this month, but the title remains a mystery.

This month, PS+ Extra subscribers can expect to gain access to:

  • Nier Replicant
  • Star Ocean: The Divine Force
  • 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
  • Civilization VI
  • Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2
  • Unpacking

Overall, it is a good-looking lineup. Nier Replicant is a game I've been holding off on for a while so it is nice to see it finally hitting subscription services. Additionally, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a lesser-known Atlus RPG that comes very highly recommended.

As leaked earlier in the week, Saints Row is indeed the headlining game for September's PS+ Essential update. Sony has also revealed the other two games coming to subscribers next month… alongside another subscription price increase.

Starting from September 5th, PS+ subscribers can claim a free copy of Saints Row (PS4/PS5), Black Desert Traveler Edition (PS4) and Generation Zero (PS4).

The bigger news here is that starting next month, Sony is also upping the cost of PlayStation Plus across all three tiers, but only for the 12-month subscription. Moving forward, buying a year of PS+ Essential will cost £60, and jumping up to PS+ Extra will cost £100 per year. Finally, the PS+ Premium subscription is moving up to £120 per year.

These price increases are only in place for 12-month subscriptions, so if you pay monthly instead, there will be no changes to the fees charged, for now at least.

Each month, usually about a week before official announcement, the next batch of games for PlayStation+ subscribers leaks. September is no different, with the headlining game for next month being revealed as Saints Row.

The Saints Row reboot launched to poor critical reception but a number of patches since then have improved the game somewhat. It still might not be anywhere close to competing with the GTA's of the world, but as a freebie for PlayStation owners, it should be worth checking out.

The leak comes via Bilbil-Kun, the same account that has been leaking PS+ games every month for years at this point. Their track-record is flawless, so we have no issue believing that Saints Row will be the headlining game for September's PS+ line-up.

We're coming up towards August, which means a new set of free games are on the way for PS+ subscribers. Next month, those subscribed to the entry-level PS+ Essential tier will get three more games, including a free copy of one of our favourite PlayStation titles, Dreams.

Sony has officially announced the next batch of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers. The headliner is PGA Tour 2K23. In recent years, 2K has been developing its own golf games to directly rival the EA Sports PGA Tour games. PGA Tour 2K23 is the latest, although it will soon be replaced by PGA Tour 2K24 later this year.

Next up on the list is Dreams, which fellow KitGuru writer, Mustafa, has written about extensively. Dreams is less of a game and more of a creative toolkit, allowing users to create their own virtual creations before sharing them with the community at large. We've seen some very impressive creations in Dreams, including full on remakes of other games.

Death's Door is the final title available to PS+ Essential subscribers in August. Coming from publisher Devolver Digital, this little indie game puts players in the shoes of a reaper, tasked with tracking down a stolen soul.

All titles will be available to claim starting from the 1st of August.

Just ahead of Sony's official announcement, next month's PS+ Essential games have leaked. In July, PS+ subscribers will get to claim three PS5 titles, including Alan Wake Remastered, just in time for the long-awaited sequel releasing later this year.

Many gamers have likely heard of billbil-kun. Posting on Dealabs, billbil-kun regularly leaks upcoming free games for services like PlayStation+. In their latest post, it is confirmed that PS+ subscribers will get access to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (PS4 & PS5), Alan Wake Remastered (PS4 & PS5) and Endling: Extinction is Forever (PS4 & PS5).

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is the most recent game in the franchise from Treyarch. The included version is the cross-gen bundle, so you'll get access to both the PS4 and PS5 versions.

Alan Wake Remastered launched in late 2021, arriving for the first time ever on PlayStation consoles. The original release was an Xbox exclusive, but Remedy has since turned to multi-platform game development. Alan Wake Remastered is well worth a playthrough now if you plan on picking up Alan Wake 2 later this year.

Finally, Endling is an indie game, promising a survival adventure where players have to explore devastated environments and avoid becoming prey. The game has overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam.

We've reached a new month, which means a new batch of free games for PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers. The new trio of games was announced last week and now, they are officially available to claim.

The first game PS Plus subscribers can claim this month is GRID Legends (PS4/PS5), the latest in Codemaster's ongoing racing series. The second game is Chivalry 2 (PS4/PS5), a fantastic multiplayer melee brawler with massive, multi-phase siege battles in 64-player servers. It is one of the more unique and impressive combat-focused multiplayer games available.

The final game heading to PS Plus in May is Descenders (PS4), a sports game focused on extreme biking, boasting “easy to pick up, but difficult to master” gameplay.

This also means that last month's titles are no longer available to claim. There will be more PlayStation Plus updates later in the month, as Sony still has to reveal the next wave of games for PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers.

As a little bonus for buying a PlayStation 5, all those subscribed to PS Plus have been able to get their hands on a dozen or so PS4 classics for free. This promotion has persisted for years following the launch of the PS5, but with the console well into its 3rd year on the market, Sony is set to end this promotion very soon – tomorrow in fact.

Making the announcement via an email (and shared by GameInformer), Sony said: “From May 9 the PlayStation Plus Collection will no longer be available as a PlayStation Plus benefit. You can add any of the titles from the PlayStation Plus Collection to your Game Library before May 9 and play at any time in the future with an active PlayStation Plus membership. PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, Monthly Games and other existing benefits will not be affected by this change. Thank you for your continued support of PlayStation Plus.”

The full list of titles available as part of the collection can be seen below and while a majority of them run as they did on PS4|Pro, a select few titles are enhanced on PS5 through backwards compatibility, and so are certainly worth playing:

  • Batman: Arkham Knight
  • Battlefield 1
  • Bloodborne
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops III: Zombie Chronicles Edition
  • Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy
  • Days Gone
  • Detroit: Become Human
  • Fallout 4
  • Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition
  • God of War (2018)
  • Infamous: Second Son
  • The Last Guardian
  • The Last of Us Remastered
  • Monster Hunter: World
  • Mortal Kombat X
  • Ratchet & Clank (2016)
  • Resident Evil VII: Biohazard
  • Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
  • Until Dawn

As long as you add the games to your library they will remain there indefinitely and will be playable as long as you have an active PS Plus subscription. While it is a shame to see the promotion ending, it served well as an introduction to the world of PlayStation. Make sure to redeem the full PS Plus Collection before they become unavailable.

We're due for another PS+ library update very soon for Extra and Premium subscribers. As has been the case for months now, the list of upcoming titles has leaked days ahead of official announcement. Interestingly, it looks like Horizon Forbidden West will be hitting the service much sooner than anticipated.

Many gamers have likely heard of billbil-kun, a leaker that regularly posts game deals and leaks upcoming titles for services like PS+ days ahead of official announcement. In his latest post, we get our first look at the next update for PS+ Extra and Premium subscribers, which will be made available on the 21st of February.

The upcoming games list includes Horizon Forbidden West, Scarlet Nexus, Resident Evil 7 and Borderlands 3. bilbil-kun notes that there will likely be more in Sony's official announcement.

Interestingly, Horizon Forbidden West is hitting the catalogue just one year on from its official release. This leaves us wondering why Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart wasn't included a couple of months ago during the anniversary celebration, which brought most other previous games in the series to PS+ subscribers, although some were only available through streaming.

KitGuru Says: What do you all think of this month's PS+ Extra update? The addition of Horizon Forbidden West is particularly interesting, as Sony has been slow to bring newer titles to the service with just a couple of notable exceptions, like Returnal and Demon Souls.

While Sony doesn't put its big first-party games straight onto the higher tiers of PS+, the studio does offer multi-hour-long trials for certain games. Soon, it looks like PS+ Extra and Premium members will get a chance to play a good chunk of God of War: Ragnarok for free.

PlayStationSize, a Twitter account dedicated to revealing back-end PSN Store updates and game download sizes, has recently discovered a new entry for a God of War Ragnarok trial version, offering three hours of in-game time.

Sony has not yet officially announced a PS+ trial for the game, but given this recent leak, it should be formally announced soon enough, likely in time for the next PS+ Extra library update.

God of War Ragnarok launched for PS4 and PS5 in late 2022, going on to win plenty of accolades.

Each month, those subscribed to Sony’s PlayStation Plus Essential service are privy to receiving a number of games for ‘free’. Following a leaked line-up, Sony has now officially announced January’s PS Plus Essential titles.

Making the announcement on the PlayStation Blog, Adam Michel, the Director for Content Acquisition & Operations at SIE said “Today we’re happy to reveal the PlayStation Plus Monthly Games for January. Escape the Empire’s clutches in single player adventure Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, head into the wastelands with friends in online RPG Fallout 76 and enjoy platforming action in Axiom Verge 2.”

As was leaked previously, January’s official line-up is as follows:

  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (PS4 / PS5)
  • Axiom Verge 2 (PS4 / PS5)
  • Fallout 76 (PS4)

The headlining title is undoubtedly Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. This action-adventure metroidvania-lite saw great critical praise following its initial release back in 2019. This version in particular offers both the PS4 and PS5 SKUs, meaning players can enjoy the many benefits of a native PS5 app including faster loading times, DualSense features and more.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a timely addition to the service given the upcoming launch of its sequel ‘Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’ which is set to release at the end of January. If you were wanting to play (or replay) Fallen Order before Jedi: Survivor, this offers the opportune way to do so.

Those waiting for January’s PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium line-ups will need to wait a little bit longer as according to Sony, those will be “announced soon”. January’s PlayStation Plus Essential games will be available to add to your library from the 3rd of January.

As with nearly every month now, the line-up of free PlayStation Plus titles for January 2023 have leaked ahead of time, revealing that Sony will be kicking off the year with two free PlayStation 5 games – including the rather timely Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

As reported by known subscription service line-up leaker ‘Bilbil-kun’ Sony will be kicking off the new year with a decent list of PlayStation Plus Essential titles, namely:

  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (PS4 / PS5)
  • Axiom Verge 2 (PS4 / PS5)
  • Fallout 76 (PS4)

The headlining title is undoubtedly Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. This action-adventure metroidvania-lite saw great critical praise following its initial release back in 2019. Of course, we still have to wait for Sony themselves to officially announce the line-up for January, though given Billbil-kun’s highly accurate leak streak – especially with regards to upcoming PS Plus games – their word is almost as good as official.

A week ago, this month's free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers leaked online. Now, Sony has confirmed the slate of games, so subscribers can now log in to claim a free copy of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition Trilogy, Biomutant and Divine Knockout.

PS+ subscribers can now claim Mass Effect Legendary Edition (PS4), Biomutant (PS4/PS5) and Divine Knockout (PS4/PS5) until the end of the month.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is BioWare's remaster of the original trilogy, taking players back to Shepard's battle against the Reapers with enhanced visuals and better performance.

Biomutant is an open-world action game, mixing martial arts-inspired combat, shooting and special mutant powers. This game sparked a lot of interest during its development, but it was also delayed a number of times, before finally launching in 2021.

Finally, we have Divine Knockout, a 3rd-person fighting game starring mythical gods, battling it out in 3v3 games with full cross-play and cross-progression, so you can switch between platforms.
