After numerous delays, Ubisoft is finally pushing forward with the release of Rainbow Six Extraction, formerly known as Rainbow Six Quarantine. The spin-off shooter has been in the works for years and now, it looks like a January release date has been settled upon.

Ubisoft has quietly updated its blog post containing Rainbow Six Extraction gameplay from E3, adding a January 20th release date. That same release date has also leaked via advertisements for the game, which appeared on websites early in some regions.

Rainbow Six Extraction is a spin-off of Rainbow Six Siege. The game is a PvE focussed title, sending squads of three players off to battle an alien threat. The game will feature 18 of the operators found in Rainbow Six Siege, as well as 12 maps, where each mission will take place.

The goal of each mission is to explore the map, gather intel and avoid death before extracting from the area and moving on to the next level. Ubisoft has not yet confirmed this release date officially, but we expect that the publisher will comment publicly sometime this week.

KitGuru Says: It has been a long road for Rainbow Six Extraction but the game is finally releasing. Perhaps we'll see some kind of beta before the end of this year.

Ubisoft's PvE-focused Rainbow Six Siege spin-off is now known as Rainbow Six Extraction. Originally, the game was announced under the name ‘Rainbow Six Quarantine' in 2019, the title later became known as Rainbow Six Parasite but Ubisoft has decided to go in a different direction for the final game.

In a new developer video posted this week ahead of E3, the studio revealed the final name for the game and also revealed some new details, with Creative Director, Patrick Methé, saying: “You'll have plenty of different challenges to overcome, but will always have one goal in mind: Making sure no one gets left behind.”

Methé also added the following: “It will be up to your and your squad to decide when to push forward, or when to extract. As you will soon discover, Extraction is truly the name of the game.”

Unlike Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, Rainbow Six Extraction will be at E3 this weekend. Ubisoft Forward is set to take place at 8PM BST on the 12th of June. Not only are we expecting to see official gameplay, but we should also finally get a release date as well.

KitGuru Says: Are many of you planning on picking this up, or will you be sticking to PvP in Rainbow Six Siege?

We still don't know when Rainbow Six Quarantine/Parasite is coming out, but Ubisoft has been holding closed gameplay tests recently. Some early in-game footage leaked last month, giving us a few-second glimpse at the game. Now this week, someone has streamed over an hour of gameplay, revealing all the details about how the game works and plays.

The streamer in question broadcast the game on Facebook Gaming and was later banned for a period of time due to breaking NDA. Still, they were able to broadcast an hour of footage before the stream was taken down. Mirrors of the footage have also unfortunately been taken down, but we are still able to chronicle the gameplay details.

Rainbow Six Parasite will send players out on ‘incursions' (missions), which are split into three zones, each with its own objective. As you clear out objectives, the level becomes progressively more challenging. Players will begin by collecting DNA samples of the Archaeans, the main enemy in the game.

Players will take on the roles of various operators from Rainbow Six Siege, including Alibi, Lion, Vigil, Ela, Finka and Tachanka, each with the same armour and speed stats found in Siege. However, gadgets have been modified to suit PvE gameplay. Stealth is a particular area of focus, with players needing to avoid traps, such as the black goo that we saw in last month's leak. Archaeans will also begin to glow if they are about to spot the player.

As VG247 points out, there are is some Left 4 Dead inspiration here too, with safe rooms and squad-mate revival.

As you would expect, Ubisoft is well aware of the leak and has already commented on the matter, telling Eurogamer: “We can confirm this is a glimpse of our upcoming Rainbow Six game. Recently, we ran an internal test for the game and unfortunately some of the details became public. This clip is a work in progress gameplay footage. We'll share more details about the game later this year.”

Rainbow Six Quarantine was originally announced at E3 2019. Internally, the game was later named Rainbow Six Parasite, but the final release will have a different name, which Ubisoft has yet to announce.

KitGuru Says: Ubisoft has been working on this game for a long time now, but given the amount of recent gameplay leaks, a release date announcement can't be too far off. Are any of you looking forward to this Rainbow Six Siege spin-off?

Ubisoft has been working on a new Rainbow Six Siege spin-off for a long time now, with very little revealed in terms of gameplay. We finally have one small look at the game in action this week thanks to a short gameplay video leak.

The leak was shared on Reddit earlier this week, showing a brief clip of someone playing the game. It isn't much, but it is the most we've seen of this game over the past year:

The leak reveals at least three Siege operators that will be available in the game – Vigil, Lion and Tachanka. In this clip, the three-person squad is on a mission with a 15-minute time limit in a map called ‘Workshop'. There is some kind of alien egg in the corner surrounding by black goo – which then gets shot away before the egg gets destroyed.

Rainbow Six Quarantine began life as a limited time mode for Rainbow Six Siege called Outbreak. The spin-off was originally announced as Rainbow Six Quarantine but recent leaks confirmed that the team has been calling it Rainbow Six Parasite internally. Neither of these are the final names for the game – Ubisoft has plans to announce the new name soon, as well as more news about the game's impending release date.

KitGuru Says: Do many of you still play Rainbow Six Siege? Are you looking forward to this PvE spin-off at all?

It has been a couple of years since Ubisoft announced Rainbow Six Quarantine – a spin-off based on Rainbow Six Siege with PvE gameplay. Since then, the world has been dealing with a global pandemic with real-world quarantines taking place. Due to this, the game will soon be changing its branding – but not to Rainbow Six Parasite.

References to Rainbow Six Parasite were first spotted by MP1st following a back-end update to the game on PSN. The update contained the image you see below, indicating that Rainbow Six Quarantine has changed its name.

After this news spread across the web last night, Ubisoft chimed in to set the record straight: “While we recently shared that we will be changing the name of Rainbow Six Quarantine, ‘Parasite’ is only a placeholder that our internal teams use”, the publisher said.

Ubisoft has also confirmed that a new name for Rainbow Six Quarantine will be announced soon. So the name is indeed changing, just not to Parasite as suggested by Ubisoft's artwork.

KitGuru Says: Are any of you looking forward to this new Rainbow Six game? What do you think the new name will end up being?

It has been a couple of years since Ubisoft announced Rainbow Six Quarantine – a spin-off based on Rainbow Six Siege with PvE gameplay. Since then, the world has been dealing with a global pandemic with real-world quarantines taking place. Due to this, the game will soon be changing its branding to Rainbow Six Parasite.

The change was first spotted by MP1st, after finding a new image on the PlayStation Store. The new image became public after a patch was updated to PSN, presumably for a pre-release version of the game currently in testing.

As we can see from the image above, the game now appears to be called Rainbow Six Parasite. Interestingly, the patch that this image was found in was an “initial launch patch”, indicating that the game will release quite soon.

During Ubisoft's recent quarterly earnings call, the publisher confirmed that this game would be releasing in 2021, seemingly putting an end to a number of delays.

Last week, Ubisoft announced that Far Cry 6 would no longer be coming out in February 2021, pushing the release back to later in the year. It turns out there is one other big delay too, with Rainbow Six Quarantine being pushed back again.

During Ubisoft's recent quarterly earnings report, the publisher confirmed that Rainbow Six Quarantine and Far Cry 6 would no longer be coming out in the current fiscal year, which ends on the 31st of March 2021. Instead, both games will now release in the 2021-2022 fiscal year, ending on March 31st 2022.

Ubisoft's upcoming Avatar game is also being pushed back to coincide with James Cameron's Avatar 2, which is now scheduled to release in 2022.

While some big games have been pushed back to the next fiscal year, Ubisoft's current-year earnings estimations are looking positive, in large part thanks to the holiday season releases of Watch Dogs Legion, Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Immortals Fenyx Rising.

KitGuru Says: Ubisoft's Q1 2021 is looking a lot quieter, but we can still expect some big releases next year. Are many of you looking forward to Far Cry 6 or Rainbow Six Quarantine?

Back at E3, Ubisoft gave us a small teaser for the next Rainbow Six game, titled ‘Rainbow Six Quarantine'. This is essentially a fully fleshed out, standalone version of the limited time ‘Outbreak' mode from Rainbow Six Siege, focusing on PvE co-op in a fight for survival. At the time, the release window was very vague, but Ubisoft has narrowed things down a bit.

Normally we expect ‘early 2020' to mean Q1 but in Ubisoft's July earnings call with investors, the publisher confirmed that Quarantine is set to release before the 31st of March. So that gives us an official three-month window to expect the game in.

Rainbow Six Siege has been one of the best multiplayer shooters in recent years, albeit with a few hiccups along the way. With Quarantine, Ubisoft wants to build off of the success of Siege and create a separate PvE game to appeal to a wider player base.

An early access beta test is supposed to take place at some point too, so hopefully we'll hear a bit more about that before the end of the year.

KitGuru Says: Rainbow Six Quarantine is likely going to be good, although I am still having trouble picturing it as a full standalone game, rather than a mode for Siege. That said, we have very few details on the game at this point and we have yet to see gameplay, so there is still plenty to learn in the coming months. Do many of you still play Rainbow Six Siege? Are you interested in Quarantine as a standalone game?

During its E3 press conference last night, Ubisoft took to the stage to announce Rainbow Six Quarantine, a new game set in the Rainbow Six universe. Based on the popular ‘Outbreak’ mode from Rainbow Six Siege, Quarantine will pair teams together in a co-op PvE fight for survival.

After several updates, Rainbow Six Siege went on to become one of the most popular PvP shooters around and continues to have a large player base today. Now with Rainbow Six Quarantine, Ubisoft wants to achieve that level of popularity in the PvE shooter space.

We only got a short teaser trailer to accompany the announcement. What we do know is that you will be placed in a group of up to three players to take on infected enemies.

The game is due out in ‘early 2020’ so we will be hearing much more in the months to come. An early access beta will also be taking place at some point, which you can sign up to take part in.

KitGuru Says: The concept here sounds solid but I’m having trouble picturing it as a whole game rather than an additional mode for Siege. Hopefully we will see and hear more about this soon.
