Ahead of the launch of the Quest 3 last year, Meta went back and raised the prices of the Quest 2 VR headset. Now as we enter 2024, Meta is dropping prices for its previous-gen system back down.

As of the 1st of January 2024, the 128GB Quest 2 has now dropped back from £299 to £249.99, and the 256GB version is now £299. Official refurbished units have also dropped down to £229.99 and £269.99 respectively. Alongside all of this, Meta has also announced a price cut for all Quest 2 accessories, including the Elite Strap, carrying case and others.

While the Quest 3 is now available, it is more expensive than the Quest 2 was at launch, coming in at £499, just like the original Oculus Rift headset. By dropping the price of the Quest 2, Meta hopes to keep new customers jumping into VR, in hopes that they may upgrade to a newer or more expensive headset later down the line.

For now, most VR games are still shipping with support for both the Quest 2 and the Quest 3. Additionally, both headsets can be hooked up to a PC for playing PCVR titles both wired and wirelessly if you have a good home network setup.

KitGuru Says: Quest 2 prices have dropped back down to their previous levels but I do wonder if it can continue to be a big seller after several years on the market already. Would you consider picking up a Quest 2 in 2024 at its new price or would you need to see prices come down a little further first?

Valve is bringing official Steam Link support to Meta's VR headsets. Starting today, Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest Pro owners will be able to use Steam Link to wirelessly play their VR games on Steam through their headsets.

You could previously use Oculus Link to wirelessly connect your Quest headset to your PC to play games owned on the Oculus/Meta store for apps and games. Now, you'll be able to do the same for all the games on your Steam library, but you will need a decent home network to get it running well without a direct wired connection.

There are some minimum requirements for using Steam Link with a Quest headset. Valve says you'll need a 5GHz wireless connection at minimum, as well as Windows 10 and a GTX 970 or newer graphics card. Those are just the minimum requirements though, Valve recommends WiFi 6 or WiFi 6E, 16GB of RAM and an RTX 2070 graphics card or newer for the best experience.

To get it all set up you'll need Steam and SteamVR installed and running on your PC. Then you'll need to connect your Quest headset to the same network as your PC and download the free Steam Link app for it. After that, the app will walk you through the rest of the steps.

KitGuru Says: Wireless VR has really taken over at this stage, with even enthusiasts swiftly growing sick of dangling cables and mounting sensors. With Steam Link, it will now be more accessible to access your PC VR games wirelessly with a headset like the Quest 3. Hopefully in the not too distant future, Valve will have a wireless VR headset of its own, something that the company has been rumoured to be working on in recent years.

The Meta Quest 3 headset is launching later this year and when it arrives, players will have an easier way to instantly access new VR titles. Today, Meta announced plans for a Meta Quest+ subscription, which will grant subscribers with new perks, including access to VR games.

Meta Quest Plus will offer subscribers “two titles every month” as part of the subscription, so it is less like a Game Pass subscription and more like Xbox Live or PS+. The games offered will represent “the best titles on the platform”.

This will cost $7.99 per month ($1 for the first month), or $59.99 per year, but ultimately, you will be taking a gamble, as you won't know what games to expect each month. As with any new subscription service, there will be keen attention paid to the titles offered each month.

For July, subscribers will get Pistol Whip and Pixel 1995, meanwhile in August, subscribers will get access to Walkabout Mini Gold and Mothergunship: Forge.

The service will be available to Quest 2 and Quest Pro users starting this week. It will be available on Quest 3 as soon as the headset launches in a few months time.

KitGuru Says: I'm not blown away by the initial offerings here but I expect we'll see bigger and quieter months for a service like this.

Ever since its launch back in late 2020, Meta have continued to improve the Quest 2 headset over time with new features, while also unlocking the maximum power of the hardware itself. Alongside the announcement of the Quest 3, Meta confirmed that a future software update will boost the performance of the previous-gen headset by up to 26%.

As part of the Quest 3 announcement, Meta discussed the role of the now 2 and a half year old Quest 2 headset. Alongside a price drop, the hardware manufacturer revealed that “In an upcoming software update, we’re updating the Quest 2 and Quest Pro GPU and CPU.”

Offering more specifics, the team stated that “Quest 2 and Pro will see an up-to 26% CPU performance increase with an up-to 19% GPU speed increase for Quest 2 and 11% for Quest Pro,” adding that “as developers take advantage of these changes, you can expect smoother gameplay, a more responsive UI, and richer content on both headsets.”

Meta did not state whether this increased performance is due to overclocking the hardware or simply thanks to a bunch of optimisations. Either way, seeing an up to 26% increase in power is impressive, especially for the VR market – where hardware gets outdated rather quickly.

In previous updates we have seen the Quest 2 get a whole host of new features including a boost in the headset’s refresh rate from 90hz to 120hz as well as full-on hand tracking – to name just two. It will be interesting to see how the hardware continues to evolve.

Since its official release back in 2022, PowerWash Simulator has continued to thrive thanks to a number of content updates – both free and paid. Many would agree that the therapeutic cleaning game is highly suited for a VR version. Fortunately the devs agree, as a bespoke VR release of PowerWash Simulator is now in development for the Meta Quest.

Making the announcement during the recent Meta Quest Gaming Showcase, PowerWash Simulator developers Futurlab officially unveiled PowerWash Simulator VR, bringing “all of the good clean fun and base game content from the smash hit PC and console versions, while adding an extra layer of immersion and interactivity to busting dirt with the power of VR!”

Details are light at the moment, however the team promised that more information will be shared over the coming months. No release date nor a price was given, though it has been confirmed that the VR version will launch sometime this year.

In terms of platforms, PowerWash Simulator VR has only been announced for the Meta Quest 2/Pro. That’s not to say the game couldn't eventually make its way to PCVR and PSVR2, but considering the fact that ‘Oculus Publishing’ is involved, the game will likely remain a platform exclusive for the foreseeable future.

PowerWash Simulator always felt as though it would be at home on a VR platform, and so it is exciting to see this become a reality.

Following on from yesterday's Meta Quest 3 leaks, we have some more official news. Just months after launch, the Quest Pro headset is getting a significant price cut and beyond that, the Quest 2 is also getting a price cut just months after having its price raised.

Today, Meta announced that the Quest Pro headset will be dropping in price from $1,499 to $999. Additionally, the 256GB version of the Quest 2 headset is dropping down from $499 to $429.

Why would Meta be dropping prices all of a sudden? Well it could partially be to clear stock as the company prepares for a new generation of VR headsets. Earlier this week, employees at Meta's Reality Labs leaked an internal presentation, including a roadmap that shows the Quest 3 as launching this year.

The Quest 3 will apparently offer twice as much performance as the Quest 2, while also being thinner, lighter and slightly more expensive. Meta is also said to be working on roughly 41 new games and apps to support the launch.

KitGuru Says: The Quest 2 price cut will come into effect on the 5th of March in many countries, including the US, UK, Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and more. If you're planning on picking up the 256GB version, it might be best to wait for the price drop to kick in.

Due to the success of the Quest 2 headset, Meta has been taking its time with its next consumer VR headset and has made no announcements yet regarding the Quest 3. That should change later this year, as a leaked presentation seems to confirm that Meta's next-gen Quest will be launching this year.

Reality Labs, one of Meta's business units, recently revealed a product roadmap to employees, which was swiftly leaked to The Verge. The roadmap shows that Meta is planning to launch the Quest 3 this year and the company is also exploring Augmented Reality devices, with at least two projects on the go.

According to the report, Meta revealed to employees that the Quest 3 will be thinner and lighter than its predecessor, while also being “at least” 2x more powerful. The presentation didn't put an exact price point down, but it did show that the Quest 3 will be slightly more expensive than the Quest 2. Considering the Quest 2 launched at $299 for the base model, the Quest 3 may end up falling in the $349 to $399 range, with a more expensive option also available with more internal storage.

Apparently, during this presentation, Meta made it clear that it views the price point as being its biggest challenge, as it will be more difficult to sell a headset priced higher than the Quest 2. With that in mind, content is going to be important for this launch and Meta is said to be preparing around 41 new games and apps for the new headset.

Given Meta's usual timelines, the Quest 3 should likely be revealed in September, followed by a launch in October.

After months of rumours and one particularly major leak, Meta officially announced the Quest Pro headset last night. As we previously thought, this is indeed a very high-end headset, hitting the market at $1,499.

At this price, the Meta Quest Pro is cheaper than a Microsoft Hololens, which is similarly geared towards developers. However, it is also significantly more expensive than the excellent Valve Index. Compared to the Meta Quest 2, which is not being replaced for the foreseeable future, the headset is $1000 more expensive.

The Quest Pro uses a new patented ‘pancake lens', which is 40% thinner than the lenses in the Quest 2. You also get a sharper display with 1832×1920 per-eye resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. As PCGamer points out, Meta promises higher contrast and 1.3 times the colour range in the Quest Pro display.

While the Quest 2 uses the Snapdragon XR2 SoC, the Quest Pro uses the Snapdragon XR2 Plus SoC and twice as much RAM, bringing the amount up from 6GB to 12GB. According to Meta, the Quest Pro is ‘50% more powerful' than the Quest 2. The headset also packs better cameras for tracking, and ships with new self-tracking Touch Pro controllers – which will be available separately too. Whether or not all of that is worth the extra $1000 is up for debate.

KitGuru Says: The Quest Pro sounds like a good piece of hardware, but it is also very expensive and likely shouldn't be used for gaming, but rather business and development use. At some point in the next two years, I expect we'll see some of these improvements making their way into a cheaper Quest 3 anyway.

Since launch, the Quest 2 VR headset has been a pretty good deal for its price. Unfortunately, the headset is about to get more expensive, with Meta announcing a $100 price hike.

In an announcement yesterday, Meta claimed that the cost of producing the Quest 2 has increased since launch, leading to the price increase. Aside from increasing the price of a brand new headset, Meta will also be increasing the prices for refurbished units and accessories too.

The new pricing will see the Quest 2 costing $399.99 for the 128GB version and $499 for the 256GB version. The new pricing goes into effect in August, so if you happen to have the cash handy, you could pick one up before then at the cheaper price.

To give users back at least something for the additional cost, Meta will be giving all Quest 2 buyers a copy of Beat Saber between August and December.

KitGuru Says: This price hike comes ahead of a very promising Quest 2 games line-up, including the likes of Ghostbusters VR, Bonelab, Among Us VR, a new NFL game and the next chapter of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners.

Roughly one year ago, Oculus execs made it known that there would be no Quest Pro or Quest 3 headset anytime soon, with the company poised to continue supporting and pushing its best-selling Quest 2 headset for the foreseeable future. Now one year on, things may have changed, with reports indicating we'll see a Quest Pro later this year with beefed up specifications.

Back in April, tech industry analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, predicted that we would see a new high-end Quest headset this year. Now, Kuo has updated his report, claiming that the new Quest 2 Pro is still on the way and revealing some core specifications.

Kuo reiterates that the headset should use Mini LED displays, as well as a new dual-element lens design to help improve visual quality further. The headset should also have AR and VR video see-through support, and include as many as 16 built-in cameras for tracking. These cameras will be split between the headset and the controllers, with ten sensors on the headset and three per touch controller.

It is also claimed that the headset will be powered by the Qualcomm XR2 chip, which is the same chip found inside the Quest 2. With that in mind, it seems Meta is focused on adding additional features to this headset, rather than increasing compute power.

Assuming this is all legitimate, we should hear something official from Meta soon, likely around September or October.

KitGuru Says: Apparently, this Quest Pro headset will end up costing somewhere in the region of $799, which makes sense for something geared at enterprise. For the gaming market, the majority of people are going to be far better off sticking with the Quest 2, or perhaps waiting for a Quest 3, which we should hear more about next year.

Recently, Meta began talking about Project Cambria, a new VR headset building off of the success of the Quest line to offer a high-end, ‘pro-grade' mixed reality experience. That headset should be coming out later this year, and it seems three other VR headsets will follow in 2023 and 2024.

According to a new report from The Information, Meta has an internal VR hardware roadmap, showing four new headsets coming from the team formerly known as Oculus. These four VR headsets are scheduled to release by the end of 2024, and two of them are gaming-oriented headsets, indicating a Quest 3 is on the way.

If the roadmap is accurate, then the Quest 3 should launch next year, and a cheaper model will release one year later, in 2024. The other two VR headsets are likely geared towards the professional market, with one of them being Project Cambria. The fourth and final VR headset in development is currently under wraps, so not much is known at this stage.

As always, just because there is new hardware in development doesn't necessarily mean we will see a product release. While Project Cambria and a Quest 3 headset are assuredly going to release, Meta's plans could change for the other two headsets mentioned.

VR enthusiasts finally have some new game announcements to look forward to. Last night during the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase, we got brand new trailers for some of the biggest VR titles coming to PC and console this year.

For starters, we'll get some updates out of the way. Among Us VR, which was announced last year, did get a new trailer with new gameplay footage showing off the fully 3D rendition of the game but unfortunately there is no release date yet. The game will be coming to the Quest, PC VR and PlayStation VR. We also finally got news on what's next for Resident Evil 4 VR, which is getting a Mercenaries mode update.

One of the best original VR games, Moss, received a sequel for PlayStation VR recently, but that exclusivity is coming to an end. Moss: Book 2 is heading to the Quest 2 this Summer. There is also a sequel to Espire on the way, one of the best stealth games currently available for virtual reality. Espire 2 will be heading to the Quest 2 this November.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners also returns this year with Chapter 2: Retribution, which will be available for the Quest 2 and the Oculus Rift. You can get Oculus exclusive PC VR games to run on other headsets, but it requires jumping through a few hoops. Presumably, this game will also release on Steam eventually.

A few weeks ago, a new asymmetrical multiplayer Ghostbusters video game was officially announced. As it turns out, something similar will also be coming to VR. Developer nDreams is developing Ghostbusters VR for PC VR, Quest 2 and PlayStation VR in collaboration with Sony Pictures Virtual Reality.

The final three major announcements from the showcase include RUINSMAGUS, a VR JRPG coming to Quest 2 and Steam, Cities VR – a virtual reality version of Cities: Skylines, and Bonelab, the next VR game from the developers behind Boneworks, bringing fully realistic physics-based gameplay to Quest 2 and PC VR headsets.

Resident Evil 4 VR is one of the more impressive standalone Quest 2 games, offering a lengthy and complete version of the classic survival horror title reworked specifically for VR. In a surprise announcement, the game has received a free update adding the much-loved Mercenaries mode into the game.

Announced at the most recent Meta Quest Games Showcase, Capcom surprise dropped a major update to Resident Evil 4 VR, adding the wave-based game mode ‘The Mercenaries’.

Available right now for free to those who own the base game, this update lets you “Battle across four unique maps, claim your spot on the leaderboards, select your favorite character from a roster of heroes and villains, and take on 20 made-for-VR Challenges” ranging from knife-only runs to environment-altering challenges.

Last but not least, players will be able to “Unlock new enhancements to Story Mode, including unique costumes, weapon skins, and gameplay modes.”

Resident Evil 4 VR was already one of the best games available on the Quest 2, and this free update has only made it better. Hopefully Capcom continues to support the VR platform.

According to notable analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, who has primarily been associated with Apple devices in recent years, Facebook/Meta is currently planning a new VR headset. Initially thought to be the Quest 3, Kuo now believes that this new headset will be known as the Quest 2 Pro.

Some of the upgrades expected for the Quest Pro include 2160×2160 Mini LED displays, a new dual-element lens design and possibly some new features like facial expression recognition and perhaps eye-tracking.

Currently, Meta is working on a higher-end VR headset known as Project Cambria. As pointed out by UploadVR, this device isn't planned to be the Quest 3 and appears to be more of a mixed-reality device, with eye tracking, face tracking and passthrough cameras.

It looks like the Oculus team is working on making the Quest 2 PCVR experience even better. At the moment, you can connect the Quest 2 to a PC with a USB-C cable, or via WiFi. Soon to improve quality over the wireless connection, Oculus/Meta may launch a dedicated wireless dongle.

References to the dongle were discovered through datamining efforts on the latest Oculus driver. The dongle itself appears to be called the “VR Air Bridge”, a D-Link WiFi 6 dongle, which can provide you a dedicated WiFi connection between your PC and Quest 2 headset.

The obvious benefit here is that this wireless connection should cut down on congestion and improve latency, making wireless PCVR a more appealing option compared to a wired connection.

The VR Air Bridge has not been announced yet, but that could change in just a few weeks, as the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase will be happening on the 20th of April.

Since the launch of the very first Oculus devices, we have seen the virtual reality platform change and evolve drastically – for better and for worse. One of these changes was observed following the release of the Oculus Quest 2 which pushed the medium into adopting standalone headsets. Now, the Meta Quest 2 is dominating the market, with 80% of all VR sales going to Facebook/Meta.

According to research firm IDC, the Oculus/Meta Quest 2 had managed to capture 78% of all AR/VR headset sales in 2021. While perhaps not the biggest surprise considering the lack of competition right now, having such a large market and mind share gives Meta the power to control the future trajectory of VR as a whole.

Of course, with Sony inching closer to releasing the highly exciting PSVR2, and Apple currently working on a premium VR headset, 2022/23 could show very different trends for VR when compared to past years.

The VR industry has been growing rapidly (92.1% in 2021), but it is still a burgeoning market with so much time and space for the platform to improve and evolve, and so it will be interesting to see what the future holds. As it stands however, Virtual Reality IS Meta Quest 2.

The Quest 2 VR headset is one of the best around, offering solid specifications and a wireless VR experience at a sensible price. Over the course of November and December, Meta ramped up on promotions for the Quest 2 and enjoyed a boost in sales. Now, we are seeing this reflected in the latest Steam Hardware Survey, with the headset accounting for nearly half of all VR headsets used on Steam.

The Steam Hardware Survey has been updated with results from January 2022 and as usual, there are some interesting stats that jump out to us. The Meta Quest 2 (formerly known as the Oculus Quest 2), now has a 46.01% market share on Steam, easily beating all other tracked VR headsets by a wide margin. The second most popular HMD on Steam is Valve's very own Index, which is only used by 14.36 percent of VR gamers on the platform.

The last PC-only VR headset that Oculus/Facebook/Meta will ever release, the Rift S, has also declined a bit as users transition over to the Quest platform. The Rift S has declined to 13.10% market share, but it still maintains a healthy lead over the original HTC VIVE.

The HTC Vive was once the most popular headset on Steam, enjoying similar levels of market share to the Quest 2 right now. However, over the years the system has dropped down the rankings and now accounts for 7.31% of VR headsets on Steam. The original Oculus Rift has also dropped significantly, sitting at 4.18 percent. Meanwhile, the entire roster of ‘Windows Mixed Reality' headsets, which includes HMDs from a number of companies like HP, Samsung, Lenovo and others, are used by just under 5% of Steam users.

The biggest VR game of the year has without a doubt been Resident Evil 4 VR, which launched last month exclusively on the Quest and Quest 2 headsets. So far, the game appears to be doing well, having gone on to become the fasted selling game on the headset.

Meta/Oculus touted Resident Evil 4 VR as the Quest 2's flagship game for 2021. One month on from release, the game has been crowned as the fastest selling game on the headset to date, and has gone on to be nominated as one of the best VR games of the year at The Game Awards.

In 2022, Resident Evil 4 VR will get even bigger, as ‘The Mercenaries' update has been announced. This will be a free update for all owners of the game, pitting players up against an on-going horde of zombies with the goal of getting as many kills as possible before time runs out. If you survive, you'll escape the map on a helicopter.

In the month following launch, Resident Evil 4 has become the 17th most rated game on the Quest platform. According to Road to VR's estimations, the game has generated around $8.5 million in revenue to date.

KitGuru Says: The Quest 2 continues to be the go-to for newcomers to VR and Resident Evil 4 appears to be succeeding as a flagship title. Have any of you tried Resident Evil 4 VR on the Quest yet?

Qualcomm is an SOC manufacturer known best for their work on mobile and portable devices. One of the company’s customers is Meta (formerly Facebook) who uses Qualcomm chips to power their Quest 2 VR headset. According to Qualcomm, the Quest 2 is estimated to have sold over 10 million units.

During a recent investor day livestream, Qualcomm’s CEO Christiano Amon commented on the company’s partnerships, one of which saw the company work with Meta to provide the SOC for the highly popular Quest 2 virtual reality headset.

According to Amon – and as discovered by Twitter user ‘Anshel Sag’ the “Oculus Quest 2 was [at] 10 million units”. The virtual reality market is still in its relative infancy, and so it is encouraging to see so many units sold in such a short amount of time (the Quest 2 only launched in October 2020).

A Qualcomm spokesperson later clarified these comments to UploadVR, saying “During Qualcomm’s Investor Day event, CEO and President Cristiano Amon highlighted the momentum of the XR business and stated that Quest 2 has shipped an estimated 10 million units. This number is an average of third-party market size estimates from industry analysts, and wasn’t meant as an official disclosure of sales numbers by Meta or Qualcomm.”

While this does mean that the 10 million units figure cannot be taken as gospel until Meta themselves confirm it, Qualcomm of all companies would be privy to the most data (outside of Meta itself) regarding the number of units shipped. This means that even though we must wait for official figures in order to confirm this achievement, it is safe to assume that around 10 million units have been shipped.

While the Quest 2 has seen some controversy due mostly to the actions of parent company Meta, the hardware and software of the Quest 2 manages to pack a great punch – especially for the starting price of £299. It is therefore unsurprising – though still impressive – to see the headset performing so well.

There is nothing more fitting than a horror video game and an October release date. Such is the case with resident Evil 4 VR, which has now been confirmed to be releasing next month, offering a whole new way to play this classic survival horror title – though only for those with an Oculus Quest 2.

Making the announcement through a new gameplay trailer, it was officially confirmed that Resident Evil 4 VR will be launching on the 21st of October. While an apt release date – being so close to Halloween – what was disappointing was the confirmation that the game will be exclusive to the Oculus Quest 2.

While it was previously known that the game would be a Quest exclusive, cutting out the many early adopters of the platform is unfortunate – even if it was necessary to do so. Resident Evil 4 is notorious for being released on every platform ever, and so to see the VR version made exclusive is disappointing to those with a PCVR headset. Still, hopefully it is given a wider release later on.

For those who do own an Oculus Quest 2, Resident Evil 4 VR is looking to be the biggest revamp of the game yet, being built from the ground up using Unreal Engine 4. This means that certain elements have been tweaked slightly in order to accomodate the platform, including all of the puzzles. How this will translate to VR will be interesting to see. Hopefully it manages to capture the same feelings as the game's original release.

Back in June, we learned that Facebook was preparing to relaunch the Oculus Quest 2 with more storage, ditching the 64GB option and replacing it with a 128GB model, allowing more games to squeeze on to the headset's internal storage. Now, the new Oculus Quest 2 is officially available, offering 128GB of storage for the same price as the 64GB model – £299.

Initially, marketing material for this change leaked. Today, Facebook is confirming it, introducing the new 128GB Oculus Quest 2 headset, replacing the 64GB option at the £299 price mark. Those who want even more storage can opt for a 256GB model instead, which sells for £399.

At the time of writing, the 128GB model is in stock in the UK, but anyone looking to buy the 256GB model will need to shop around, as the Oculus website is currently out of stock.

This news follows on from a recent recall of Oculus Quest 2 foam facial interfaces due to reports of skin irritation. Oculus now includes a new faceplate with all Quest 2 units.

Last night, Facebook announced a voluntary recall of Oculus Quest 2 foam facial interfaces due to a small percentage of customers reporting skin irritation. For now, Oculus aims to replace all foam coverings with a new silicone cover, which also means new Quest 2 sales will be temporarily halted.

Over on Amazon and the Oculus Store, Facebook has stopped taking orders for the Quest 2. Instead, there is a notification button so that prospective buyers can be notified when stock returns. For now, it looks like Quest 2 sales will be halted for several weeks at least.

As part of the recall announcement, Oculus revealed that it is working to ensure all future Quest 2 shipments include the silicone facial interface instead of the foam one. This change should take place starting from the 24th of August, at which point sales will presumably continue.

Anyone who already has an Oculus Quest 2 can head to the recall page and claim a free silicone facial interface to replace their current one.

The Oculus Quest 2 has been out for quite some time now, but it would seem that a small number of users have experienced skin irritation after wearing the headset with its standard removable foam faceplate. Now, Oculus is issuing a voluntary recall.

Oculus announced today that it is participating in a voluntary recall of the Oculus Quest 2 removable foam facial interface. A small number of users experienced skin irritation while using the Quest 2 with the foam interface, forcing Oculus to revisit its manufacturing process and make adjustments.

Quest 2 buyers will be able to send back their foam facial interface and Oculus will replace it with a free silicone cover instead. This applies to all Quest 2 headset and Quest 2 Fit Pack owners across the world. If anyone has an Oculus Quest 2 and experiences skin irritation, then it is recommended that you stop using the headset and take advantage of the recall for a replacement face covering.

Since launch, the Oculus Quest 2 has outsold all previous Oculus VR headsets combined, so there are a lot of replacements to be sent out. You can find full instructions and details on the recall, HERE.

During the recent Resident Evil showcase, a VR version of Resident Evil 4 was teased, with more details promised at a later date. Oculus recently held its own game showcase, offering a much deeper look at Resident Evil 4 VR, and revealing the many changes made to the GameCube classic.

Being a 16 year old game, many of the game’s textures needed to be reworked and improved, especially due to the new shift in perspective. As such, over 4,500 textures across the game have been improved, either through manual repainting, or upscaling. Furthermore, the models themselves have also been reworked to function correctly with stereoscopic 3D.

On the movement side, the game will offer many different options, including full locomotion, teleportation and room scale VR, with a number of comfort options also included, such as snap turning, 180 degree turns and more.

Of course, being a VR game, the interactivity had to be increased tenfold, with the VR controllers facilitating different motions, including reloading, opening drawers, interacting with the inventory, weapon swapping and much more.

Likewise, the enemy movement has been altered slightly to work and align with the altered movement of the player character due to it being in VR. 3D spatial audio has also been added – another must have for VR.

Oculus did confirm that cutscenes and animations were left untouched, allowing for players to still experience Resident Evil 4 in an authentic way while running at a much higher frame rate and with a plethora of bug fixes too.

Resident Evil 4 VR launches exclusively on the Oculus Quest 2 sometime later this year.

The Oculus Quest 2 has been a huge success for Facebook so far and it looks like it won't be replaced anytime soon. Recently, Oculus confirmed that there are tentative plans for a ‘Quest Pro' headset, but it won't be coming in 2021.

During a Twitter Q&A session with Oculus VP, Andrew Bosworth, responded to questions about the Oculus Quest 3 and future headset plans. Bosworth responded, confirming that there is no Oculus Quest 3 for now – an Oculus Quest Pro would come first, but that won't be happening this year.

Here is the full quote from Bosworth (via UploadVR): “People are also asking about the Quest 3, which doesn’t exist yet, and everyone who is listening to us who is a reporter there isn’t a Quest 3, there’s only a Quest 2, but I did hint at an AMA earlier this year about Quest Pro because we do have a lot of things in development where we want to introduce new functionality to the headset along the kinds that people theorize that we would want to introduce, and that’s a little ways off still.”

Bosworth added: “It’s still not gonna happen this year. For those who are curious, Quest 2 is going to be in the market for a while – for a long while, and it’s gonna be, you know, I think the best bet for the most accessible way to get into VR and have a great experience.”

The key message is that the Oculus Quest 2 won't be replaced for quite some time and will have a longer lifecycle than the original Oculus Quest.

It has been a while since we last had some big VR games to look forward to, but that will be changing soon. This week, Oculus announced its first games showcase, during which we'll see new footage for anticipated VR games like Lone Echo 2, as well as some new game announcements.

Oculus will be holding its first games showcase on the 21st of April, featuring new announcements for Pistol Whip, Lone Echo 2 and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge. These are “just a few” of the games that will be shown, as Oculus has “surprises in store” as well.

The stream will be live across Twitch, Facebook and YouTube, so you can tune in on whichever platform you prefer. We don't know how long the show will be, but it'll be taking place on the 21st of April at 11PM BST. Over in the US, that works out as 3PM PST or 6PM EST.

Given that this is an Oculus show, we can expect some exclusives to the Oculus platform. With the company moving away from PC-only VR as well, we are likely to only see games that support the Quest 2, in addition to the Rift S.

Shortly after announcing the Oculus Quest 2 last year, Facebook confirmed that the new standalone VR headset would replace the original Quest and eventually, the Rift S too. We're now coming to the end of the Oculus Rift S life cycle, with Facebook confirming that it will no longer be replenishing stock once current units are sold.

Speaking with UploadVR, a Facebook spokesperson confirmed that it will not be re-stocking the Rift S moving forward: “Rift S is still available for sale currently in some channels around the world, but as we announced last year, we plan to stop selling Rift S in 2021. Generally speaking, as channels sell out of stock, they won’t be replenished moving forward.”

This is in-line with what the company said last year following the Quest 2 announcement. Moving forward, Oculus will be taking its attention away from PC-only VR headsets and will instead double-down on standalone VR headsets, namely, the Quest series.

Of course, this doesn't mean Oculus won't have any presence on PC. The Quest 2 can be linked to a PC with a cable in order to play PC VR titles and the company is still helping to fund and promote new PC VR games. Last year for instance, we saw the launch of Medal of Honor for Oculus Rift and the Rift S. As far as a new PC-only VR headset goes though, that is seeming unlikely.

KitGuru Says: Just last month we found out that the Quest 2 had outsold all previous Oculus VR headsets combined, so cutting out the Rift and doubling down on Quest headsets makes good business sense. It'll be a shame to see the Rift go, but as long as Quest headsets keep supporting PC linking, those early adopters of the Oculus platform shouldn't miss out.

In the lead-up to the launch of the Oculus Quest 2, Facebook made it clear that Quest would be the main focus moving forward, cutting out the Rift and Go headsets. This focus on one headset seems to be paying off already, as the Quest 2 has outsold all other versions of the Oculus headset combined.

During a recent interview with Bloomberg, Facebook's head of mixed reality commented that the Quest 2 has “outsold not just its predecessor, but all of its predecessors combined”, confirming that the Quest 2 has been more successful than the Oculus Rift, Rift S, Go and the original Oculus Quest.

Here is the full quote: “Well, if you look a little closely I think it’s starting to happen right now. The fact that Oculus Quest 2 in just a few months in the market has outsold not just its predecessor, but all of its predecessors combined is a tremendous indicator that we are now at that point where we’ve broken through from the early adopter crowd to an increasingly mainstream crowd.”

The Oculus Quest 2 has become more impressive since launch, with platform updates bringing higher refresh rates, hand tracking and other improvements. The headset launch was not without controversy though, as many early Oculus supporters were displeased with the new Facebook account requirement for Oculus devices. Despite this, the Quest 2 has gone on to be a best-selling VR headset.

Just last week, we learned that 120Hz support would be coming to the Oculus Quest 2, with developers estimating a Q1 2021 release window. Unfortunately, things have shifted a bit since then, with 120Hz support being pushed back by several months.

According to UploadVR, Facebook's Quest Platform Roadmap, which is available to all Oculus developer account holders, 120Hz support for Quest 2 has been moved to a Q2 2021 launch window.

While the developers are currently targeting Q2 2021, there is a confidence listing next to this release window. At this point, the developers have ‘low' confidence that this deadline can be met.

Facebook Reality Labs has been slowly implementing upgrades to the Quest 2 over time. Last year, the team delivered 90Hz display support and hand-tracking via the HMD's sensors.

Recently we reported that the Oculus Quest 2 could be getting 120Hz support in the future, based on comments from Andrew Bosworth, VP of Facebook Reality Labs. Now just a few weeks later, as part of the latest update to the standalone VR headset features roadmap, it has been confirmed that 120Hz support will be added – albeit as an experimental feature for now.

On the Oculus Quest 2’s platform roadmap ‘120Hz Refresh Support’ has been included as an upcoming feature. According to Oculus, “This release offers experimental support for 120Hz refresh rates only for apps that support it. The feature will happen in two parts – API support for devs, Experimental Settings toggle to enable 120Hz and user being able to toggle 120Hz for supported apps.”

This update is expected to arrive sometime in March, though confidence in its release during this month has been set to “Medium”, meaning it may get delayed out of the month. When the Oculus Quest 2 first launched, it only supported a refresh rate of 72Hz. Later on, 90Hz was added, making for a much smoother experience.

Offering a software update to allow for 120Hz gameplay would be the next major step up for the headset, which has already quickly become one of the best VR devices with regards to value for money. Of course, being a wireless headset, battery life is an important consideration to make when choosing display refresh rates. It will be interesting to see how much battery life is affected by this increase in refresh rate, and what Oculus will do in order to mitigate battery issues as much as possible.

KitGuru says: Are you excited for 120HZ support? Is the jump from 90Hz worth it? Is VR gaming the future? Let us know down below.
