Last year, in July 2023, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE was first released exclusively for China, but since then, AMD has decided to introduce this SKU to the global DIY market. The card has been widely reviewed by outlets (including us), where many noticed the limitations when trying to overclock the GPU.

The Radeon RX 7900 GRE sits between the Radeon RX 7900 XT and the RX 7800 XT, featuring 33% more cores than the Navi-32-based 7800XT variant. However, due to power constraints, it does not perform much better than the 7800 XT, especially for reference design models or GPUs running at reference speeds.

As explained by TechPowerUP, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE cards have artificial clock limits despite the comparatively high power restrictions. The highest programmable GPU clock speed is 2803MHz, and the memory can only reach 2316MHz. However, removing the arbitrary frequency restriction should result in better performance.

AMD (via Hardware Unboxed) has acknowledged this issue and has promised to fix it. However, we don't have an exact timeline for this fix just yet.

KitGuru says: Once AMD fixes these issues, the AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE should become a slightly better buy, especially if you like fine-tuning your graphics card to its optimal performance.

The parent company of PowerColor, TUL Corporation has announced its new AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT Red Dragon series graphics cards. The new lineup will include both 4GB and 8GB versions of the PowerColor Red Dragon RX 5500 XT GPUs.

PowerColor’s Red Dragon RX 5500 XT cards are based on AMD’s advanced RDNA 7nm architecture with high-performance GDDR6 VRAM. Features of the AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT series include better visual effect optimisations such as volumetric lighting, motion blurring and depth of field, with a multi-level cache hierarchy to reduce latency and provide a highly responsive gaming experience.

The PowerColor Red Dragon RX 5500 XT series is the ideal GPU for 1080p gaming at 60 FPS on AAA titles with over 90 FPS performance on popular Esports games. AMD’s latest Adrenalin 2020 software enhances gaming on 5500 XT series cards further through features such as Radeon Image sharpening and FidelityFX for maximum performance and immersion, while Radeon Anti-Lag offers a highly responsive gaming experience.

Both iterations of the PowerColor Red Dragon RX 5500 XT cards feature the Mute Fan technology that completely turns off the fans when the card temperature is below 60°C, for silent operation under low to medium load. The 8GB RX 5500 XT Red Dragon has a 1.5mm thick metal backplate included to protect the PCB from bending and both new cards are bundled with a free copy of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition, as well as the Xbox Game Pass bundle.

For more information and full specification of the new PowerColor RX 5500 XT Red Dragon cards, head over to the official PowerColor product pages.

We have known about the Radeon RX-series for a little while but we didn't know the full specifications for the upcoming Polaris chips until now. This week, AMD confirmed the specifications for Polaris 10 and Polaris 11, with both set to deliver up to 2.8 times performance per watt.

Polaris 10 is the more powerful of the two GPUs, with 36 Compute Units and 2304 Stream Processors, 5 TFLOPS of compute performance, a 256-bit memory bus, 4th generation GCN technology and support for 4K Encode/Decode as well as DisplayPort 1.3/1.4 HDR.

Polaris 11 is the slower variant with 16 Compute Units and 1024 Stream Processors, 2 TFLOPS of compute performance, a 128-bit memory bus as well as the same 4K encode/decode and DisplayPort capabilities.

The RX 480, RX 470 and RX460 graphics cards are set to launch on the 29th of June. We know that the RX 480 targets the $199 price point but we don't yet have pricing for the 470 or 460. We did get a quick look at some Firestrike performance numbers last night though, if you want to get a rough idea of where the RX 480 and RX 470 fall in the performance ladder.

KitGuru Says: There has been a lot of talk surrounding AMD's new Polaris graphics cards over the last couple of weeks. Are any of you planning on going with AMD this year?

Today at E3, AMD's CEO, Lisa Su, took to the stage at the PC Gaming Show to reveal the full line-up of upcoming Radeon RX graphics cards, using the Polaris architecture. The first GPU in the line, the RX 480, was first announced earlier this month, using the power of Polaris to deliver a VR-capable graphics card at the $199 price point.

However, today, AMD also announced the RX 470 and the RX460. The former is aimed at delivering power-efficient 1080p gaming while the latter is being pushed as the “ultimate e-sports” GPU.

The whole Radeon RX line is aiming to bring the best performance to GPUs under the $300 price point and lower the cost of 1080p/60fps gaming and VR gaming. The first card in the line to go on sale will be the previously announced RX480, which will launch on the 29th of June.

Release dates for the RX 470 and RX 460 will come a little later. No board partner designs were shown off at the PC Gaming Show and we don't have the full specification list for both cards so there is still plenty of information to come.

KitGuru Says: While the Radeon RX line-up won't break high-end performance records, it will significantly lower the barrier of entry for virtual reality, 1440p, and high-detail 1080p gaming, which could shake up the market quite a bit for cards below $300.
