Valve has sold plenty of Steam Decks since launch but as with any product, a percentage of them did get sent back due to various reasons. Rather than putting fixable hardware to waste, Valve now offers a refurbished Steam Deck option, with up to £110 chopped off the price tag.

The Certified Refurbished Steam Deck page went live on the store last night, confirming a leak from earlier in the day. Valve now offers refurbished versions of the 64GB, 256GB and 512GB Steam Decks, priced at £279, £369 and £459 respectively.

For comparison, the brand new Steam Deck models are sold at £349, £459 and £569 for the 64GB, 256GB and 512GB versions.

Each certified refurbished Steam Deck model goes through more than 100 functionality tests and quality checks at a Valve facility before being sold on to a consumer. Refurbished models are entitled to the same 1-year warranty as the new models and are shipped with a new carrying case for storage. The base model is already out of stock here in the UK but the 256GB and 512GB versions remain available at the time of writing.

KitGuru Says: Will you be looking to save some money by picking up a refurbished Steam Deck?

Over the last few months, there have been a ton of reports surrounding Samsung's plans for its recalled Galaxy Note 7 units. The company already pledged to be eco-friendly and dispose of these units in a way that minimises waste. However, it was also considering re-selling refurbished units with a smaller battery. Now, that plan is official, with Samsung confirming that it will be releasing a Galaxy Note 7 ‘Fan Edition' in limited quantities this month.

The Galaxy Note FE will initially be sold on Samsung's home ground, South Korea, with around 400,000 units to be made available. The price will sit at 700,000 Won, which is around £470 here in the UK and $610 in the US. As you would expect, these refurbished units will have their 3500mAh batteries swapped out with a smaller 3200mAh version in an effort to avoid further fires.

These recycled versions of the Note 7 will undergo a ‘rigorous 8-point battery safety test' before being sent out to consumers, who will be able to start buying on the 7th of July. Beyond that, the phone will be updated with a newer version of Samsung's software to match the Galaxy Note 8, meaning features like Bixby will be included.

Right now, ‘oversees availability' is still being debated. However, with the Galaxy Note 8 tipped to be arriving in September, it seems unlikely.

KitGuru Says: While I am sure some people would still like to own a Galaxy Note 7, if the price ended up being close to £500, I don't see many people jumping for it. That said, it could end up seeming cheap in comparison, as the Galaxy Note 8 is said to be Samsung's most expensive smartphone ever.

We have known for a couple of months now that Samsung is planning on reselling a portion of its recalled Galaxy Note 7s. The bulk of the devices recalled with be recycled but some of them are going to be refurbished with new, smaller batteries and resold. Now according to a new report, we know how much Samsung plans on charging and it is pretty cheap but only one country will be getting it.

According to sources speaking with The Investor, Samsung will soon begin selling the Galaxy Note 7R, at half the price of the original Galaxy Note 7. With that in mind, the price should end up being around £350 when converted from Korean Won to GBP.

As we previously heard in earlier reports, Samsung is currently only planning to release refurbished Galaxy Note 7 devices on its home ground, South Korea. On top of that, only around 300,000 units are reportedly set to be sold, so this is going to be a very limited release.

In an effort to avoid the Note 7's previous problems, the Note 7R will be fitted with a smaller 3200mAh battery, replacing the original 3500mAh battery. The Note 7R could go on sale as soon as May but could slip into June.

KitGuru Says: I'm sure there are quite a few people all over the world that would jump at the chance to snag a Galaxy Note 7 for just £350. However, it seems Samsung is keeping the scale pretty small on this release. Do you guys think Samsung should release some refurbished Galaxy Note 7s outside of South Korea?

One of the UK's oldest and most respected component resellers, Aria, has opened up a new deal for re-engineered Solid State Drives. While you can ponder if the whole concept is or isn't right for you, the fact is that some SSDs are getting sold for £14.99 with a manufacturer warranty. Read/write on for more.

Each generation of Solid State Drive has (and will have) had its own, unique, quirkiness built in.

In some cases, the controllers could have been better. In others, maybe one or modules were more likely to fail earlier, simply because of the way the memory locations were being accessed/hammered.

Whatever the reason, there seem to be a lot of Corsair drives that, having made their way back to the mothership, have since been refurbished by the manufacturer – passed quality control – and are now ready for new owners.

In an ideal world, we'd tell you to ‘Buy a new one' – but how many of us have wanted the same with cars/bikes/loved ones – and yet still had many years of happiness with ‘one that wasn't exactly new'.  And what if the reality is Solid State Drives that are too cheap to ignore. Let's put some meat on the bones and you can decide:-

2.5″ SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive
Maximum Read: 220MB/sec, Maximum Write: 135MB/sec
Controller: Indilinx Barefoot, 30 Day Direct Warranty with Corsair
Price: £14.99 inc. VAT
.
2.5″ SATA-III Solid State Hard Drive
Maximum Read: 365MB/sec, Maximum Write: 110MB/sec
Controller: Marvell, 30 Day Direct Warranty with Corsair
Price: £29.99 inc. VAT
.
2.5″ SATA-III Solid State Hard Drive
Maximum Read: 410MB/sec, Maximum Write: 210MB/sec
Controller: Marvell, 30 Day Direct Warranty with Corsair
Price £53.99 inc. VAT
.
256GB 2.5″ SATA-III Solid State Hard Drive
Maximum Read: 480MB/sec, Maximum Write: 320MB/sec
Controller: Marvell, 30 Day Direct Warranty with Corsair
Price £107.99 inc. VAT
.

KitGuru says: These drives all needed to go back to Corsair to have something changed. The fact that there are so many of them available now, would seem to indicate that ‘entire batches had some issue identified, then went back for a fix'. With the direct warranty, it looks like Corsair is saying, “Turn it on and, if it works properly, we think it will carry on doing so”. It's your call, but £14.99 is hard to ignore.
