Dawn of War III will have three campaigns, but they'll all be bundled into one. Unlike previous games where you could play from various perspectives with the difference races, this time they'll all be bundled into one and you'll switch between. While the first mission might be from the Space Marine perspective, the second could be from the Orks.

Dawn of War games of yesteryear had at least four playable races at launch, but this time around there will only be three. However Relic wants to give them all a major stake in the campaign story, instead of just adapting the same sort of missions for different races.

“That allows us to do some interesting narrative things where the player knows more than the protagonists and you’re sort of setting up the next mission with each mission,” said Relic's Phil Boulle in a chat with PCGN.

He went on to say that the other benefit of this is that all players who finish the campaign will have a rough idea of how all of the races play. This could help prevent just one race being the most popular in multiplayer and helps prepare people for that ever more challenging mode.

Another aspect of the game he described was a way of making the Eldar more durable. Although they are more fragile unit to unit, if they can enter a battle trance, where they're doing a lot of damage, they can regenerate health with a shield mechanic.

Dawn of War III offers a return to a more original Dawn of War gameplay, with larger armies, building bases and super units, but keeps the hero characters and progression of Dawn of War II. It's expected to release sometime in 2017.

KitGuru Says: I've put a lot of time into the Dawn of War games over the years, but after playing Total War: Warhammer, it's hard to not feel like DoW is a little small in comparison. I'll probably still check it out though.

The 41st century is a grim and dark place, unless you're talking about Dawn of War III, where there are so many particle and lighting effects that battles look like they're taking place around Christmas. At least that was the impression I got from the new reveal of Dawn of War III's latest gameplay footage at this year's E3 festival.

Although more effects and explosions are to be expected in any game looking to return to the larger battles of the first Dawn of War game, there is a bit of a cartoony feel to this latest showing. The terminators seem to move incredibly fast and Gabriel Angelos, their captain, is capable of leaping through the air while wearing such armour, which seems a little silly.

Of course much of Warhammer 40,000 is, but it's the way the universe deals with that in a serious manner which makes it all the more intriguing. The new footage doesn't feel serious enough.

Admittedly this is pre-alpha gameplay footage we're seeing so we can't judge it too harshly, but the big cartoonish blood spills and the shuddering frame rate just don't paint the game is as strong a light as I think Relic wanted.

Other commenters have also said that the game looks like a step back from its predecessors. Although we do see buildings – which will likely please Dawn of War I fans – the way units don't seem to be intelligently fighting (they just stand their blasting at each other) makes it look more like a mobile game, in some people's eyes.

KitGuru Says: What's your take on the new Dawn of War III gameplay showcase? I really must say I'm not particularly impressed. I don't like the colourful look it has nor the static looking forces. Then again, everything Warhammer feels a bit lifeless after playing hours upon hours of Total War: Warhammer.

Relic Games' Homeworld is one of the most well remembered strategy titles of the past couple of decades, right up there with classics of the genre. However getting older titles like that to work on modern operating systems is never easy, which is why a lot of people are particularly excited by Gearbox's upcoming revamp of the series. But it's not just re-releasing the content with some compatibility improvements, the developer roped in many of the original sound and visual artists to improve the aesthetics of the game, making it look far prettier than it ever did, without altering the original game's style.

This is showcased at its best in the new trailer for Homeworld 2, which cuts between the original game and the HD remastered edition (both of which are included in the Homeworld Remastered Collection) to show what improvements have been made.

Also bundled with the new versions of the classics is a new Steam multiplayer beta, which creates  a single hub system for those wanting to go at it in the original games' multiplayer modes, meaning you can jump between playing Homeworld and Homeworld 2 against friends and enemies without needing to change games.

The only part of the series not included is the Cataclysm expansion, due to the source code for the original being lost. However there is some hope, as its developers have stated that the new remastered engine that Gearbox utilised for this collection could essentially recreate the original expansion. No announcements have been made as of yet though, so we'll have to wait and see.

For those wanting a truly exclusive version of the game too, there's a Collector's Edition that comes bundled with a 13″ tall Pride of Hilgara mothership replica with USB powered lighting, for ‘just' £99.

The Homeworld: Remastered Collection launches tomorrow, 25th February.

KitGuru Says: I must admit, the Homeworld games are a series I never played through back in the day. Considering how well it's remembered it is though, I may need to pick this up and give it a try.
