Late last year, Rockstar Games finally revealed the next entry in the industry-defining GTA series more than a decade after the last. Announced to be coming in 2025, it would appear as though Rockstar will need more time to get GTA VI out of the door – possibly a whole extra year.

As reported by Kotaku, following the announcement that Rockstar devs will be mandated to stop working from home and instead operate exclusively from the studio’s offices, the publication took a deep dive into GTA VI’s current development.

Despite initially hoping for an early 2025 release, development is said to be “falling behind” – leading in part to the aforementioned return-to-office mandate.

While Spring 2025 is supposedly still the target, GTA VI’s release date could be pushed back to late 2025 or even 2026 in the worst-case-scenario as a “fallback plan.”

With it having been more than a decade now since the release of GTA V, the devs at Rockstar should take as much extra time as they need in order to ensure the game’s launch goes without a hitch – and more importantly to ensure the devs’ wellbeing.

KitGuru says: Are you surprised by the potential delay? Are you happy to wait till 2026 for GTA VI? What do you think of the return-to-office mandate? Let us know down below.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the best selling games of all time, with over 60 million copies sold since its release in 2018. Despite this, Rockstar Games has shown relatively little post-launch support for the title. Fortunately, the team have released a surprise update with notable fixes and some improvements.

Red Dead Redemption 2’s Title Update 1.32 is mostly focused on fixing issues and improving stability, including a long-time bug related to the stables in Red Dead Online.

That said, Rockstar have added a few quality-of-life features such as defaulting your mic to ‘off’ in Red Dead Online alongside improvements to playing offline.

By far the biggest change comes with the update of AMD’s FSR technology – having been upgraded to version 2.2 for increased visual clarity while maintaining framerates. Additionally, RDR2 now supports HDR10+ for Gaming; a welcome addition given the title’s poor HDR implementation at launch.

While it seems like Rockstar have no plans to revamp its online mode nor update the console versions to 60fps, it is nice to see the team addressing at least some of the game’s remaining issues.

For more than a decade now, Grand Theft Auto 5 has continued to sell like hotcakes, with the now-two-generation-old title consistently pushing further and further towards the 200 million mark. It seems as though the day is near, with Rockstar announcing that GTA V has now sold over 195 million copies.

As part of the company’s most recent fiscal report, Take-Two Interactive released updated sales stats for both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. As shared by industry analyst ‘DomsPlaying’ Grand Theft auto V has once again sold-in an additional 5 million copies since last quarter, putting the title dangerously close to 200 million copies sold (currently sitting at 195 million).

Assuming the game’s current trajectory continues, GTA V will likely have sold over 200 million copies by the time Take-Two Interactive release their next fiscal report.

Of course, though nowhere near as big a GTA, 2018’s Red Dead Redemption continues to climb up the video game best-sellers list, shifting an additional 4 million copies since last quarter to bring its total sales to 61 million. This makes RDR2 officially the 7th best-selling game of all time, surpassing the NES classic Super Mario Bros. (58 million) – and landing right underneath Mario Kart 8 + Deluxe (69.04 million).

Considering the fact that Grand Theft Auto VI is still quite a ways away – coming some time in 2025 – it's entirely possible that the game manages to sell over 225 million copies by the time its long-awaited sequel finally comes out. We will have to wait and see.

The Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer has been live for a little over one day and as expected, it has taken over the internet. Within one day, the new trailer reached the lifetime views of the original GTA V reveal, amassing over 104 million views on YouTube alone.

This is just one stat, the trailer has also been viewed millions of other times via re-uploads and shares on social networks like Twitter. To make matters more impressive, Guinness World Records has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 already holds three world records.

As of now, the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer holds records for the most viewed video game reveal on YouTube, the most liked video game trailer and the most viewed non-music YouTube video in 24 hours.

Naturally, Rockstar's parent company, Take Two, has also seen a rise in shares following the game's announcement. So far, it looks like Grand Theft Auto 6 is going to garner the same level of hype and success as GTA V all those years ago.

The game isn't coming out for a while though. Rockstar plans to release the game for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 consoles sometime in 2025. Then, we'll likely have a 1-2 year wait before the PC version comes along.

After years of anticipation, hype and excitement, Rockstar Games finally released their first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI. While undoubtedly a moment worth celebrating, the game appears to be even further away than expected, with it set to arrive some time in 2025.

Rockstar Games have officially released their first trailer for GTA VI, showing off the world, graphics, locations and the two primary playable protagonists. As expected, the trailer features an impressive amount of detail, taking all of the enhancements made for Red Dead Redemption 2 and expanding upon it – blurring the lines between gameplay and cutscenes due to its density.

Despite looking so polished, GTA VI is still a surprising ways away. With the trailer dropping in late 2023, many fans expected the game to come out at some point next year – likely during its latter half. Unfortunately, we will have to wait for more than a year still, as GTA VI is slated to arrive some time in 2025, meaning it could still be two years away at its worst.

Of course, with us having waited for over a decade since 2013’s GTA V, a year or two more isn’t the end of the world. That said, with GTA VI finally feeling like a real and tangible product, I just want to get my hands on it already.

Ahead of the weekend, Rockstar confirmed its plans to debut the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 this week. We're still a little under 24 hours away from the trailer going live, but a few details have become public ahead of time.

There have already been some leaks ahead of the trailer, including one which may have involved the son of a Rockstar North developer. However, it didn't show anything particularly interesting, or at least, nothing we didn't already see in the pre-alpha gameplay leaks from last year.

The Grand Theft Auto 6 reveal trailer has already been uploaded to YouTube and is scheduled to go live at 2PM GMT tomorrow. At the time of writing, there are already 50,000 people sitting and waiting for the premiere.

The trailer will be 1:30 long, which isn't much but is actually longer than a lot of previous Rockstar trailers. The original trailer for GTA V was just one minute long and the first two Red Dead Redemption 2 trailers came in at 90-seconds or less. There will no doubt be new trailers as Rockstar tightens the game up for launch, hopefully in 2024.

KitGuru Says: We still don't have a release date but hopefully the rumours of a late 2024 launch hold true, although if a delay is needed, then Rockstar should take any extra time it needs. GTA 5 sold well for an entire decade, so there is a lot riding on the sequel.

Following leaks, rumours and a statement from the studio itself, Rockstar Games confirmed that Grand Theft Auto IV would be getting its first official trailer this December. Unsurprisingly, the announcement teaser for this upcoming trailer has garnered a massive amount of interest and excitement, becoming the most-liked gaming Tweet of all time.

Back in November, Rockstar Games President Sam Houser released a statement to Twitter announcing the impending GTA VI trailer, saying “We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto. We look forward to many more years of sharing these experiences with all of you.”

The mere mention of GTA VI in an official capacity sent shockwaves online, with the Tweet becoming the most liked gaming-related Twitter post of all time, amassing over 1.6 million likes.

Since then, the studio has posted another teaser for GTA VI, featuring an exact date and time for the announcement trailer (Tuesday the 5th of December at 9AM ET). This has now become the most-liked gaming Tweet of all time, seeing over 1.9 million likes as of the time of writing.

Additionally, the same announcement was shared to a variety of platforms, with the Instagram photo seeing more than 5.6 million likes and a Facebook post amassing over half a million reactions so far.

Since its release a decade ago, GTA V has become the second best-selling game of all time with over 190 million copies sold. It is therefore unsurprising to see just how wide-reaching interest is for the long-awaited GTA VI. It’ll be interesting to see how many views the trailer ends up getting in its first 24 hours.

Earlier this week, we learned that Rockstar co-founder, Dan Houser, had brought on board a couple of veteran writers from his old studio to help him out at Absurd Ventures. We also learned about the company's first two projects, American Caper and A Better Life, through trademark filings. While the trademark details pointed to both of these projects being video games, it turns out that is not the case.

Absurd Ventures announced itself as a multimedia company earlier this year, with ambitions to get into comics, TV shows and other areas, alongside video games. While trademarks for American Caper and A Better Paradise listed them under the “downloadable computer software” category, the company is not immediately jumping into game development as we'd thought.

Absurd Ventures has now officially announced both American Caper and A Better Paradise. The former is a graphic novel, while the latter is an audio drama.

American Caper will tell the story of two normal but badly-damaged American families struggling in a world of corrupt business, inept politics and crime, illustrated by comic book artist, Simon Bisley. Bisley has had credits illustrating for several Batman comics, as well as Lobo, X-Men, Halo and others.

A Better Paradise is a radio drama, co-produced by QCODE Media, a company that specialises in audio-based fictional stories. The series will run for 12 ‘episodes' and is described as an “existential suspense thriller set in the near future”.

KitGuru Says: This isn't quite what we expected after the trademark filings were discovered, but it is in keeping with what Absurd Ventures is supposed to be all about. Perhaps we will see a game at some point, but for now, Houser's new company is starting out exploring other areas of entertainment media.

Dan Houser left Rockstar after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 and revealed his new game studio, Absurd Ventures, this year. Now, two of Rockstar's most credited creatives are joining him.

As reported by Begeek, former Vice President of writing at Rockstar Games, Michael Unsworth, and former writer and producer, Lazlow Jones, have now joined Dan Houser at Absurd Ventures.

Unsworth has credits writing on Midnight Club: Los Angeles, L.A. Noire, Max Payne 3, GTA 4, GTA 5, as well as both Red Dead Redemption titles. He joins Absurd Ventures as the company's lead on story and creative management. Jones, who worked on every GTA title since GTA 3, the Red Dead Redemption games, as well as titles like L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3.

This news follows on from the revealing of two newly filed trademarks from Absurd Ventures, one for a project called “American Caper” and another called “A Better Life”. Neither project has been officially announced yet, so very little is publicly known about them. However, the trademark filings do list them under the “downloadable computer software” category, pointing towards both being video games, potentially with a mobile companion app of sorts.

In the future, Absurd Ventures will expand into multimedia projects and already seems to have ambitions of making a TV show.

KitGuru Says: It is worth noting that Rockstar has been without these two employees for a while now, so this won't have any impact on the continued development of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is set to be officially unveiled in early December.

Launched all the way back in 2008 alongside GTA IV, the Rockstar Games Social Club offered “a new website that [extends] your experience of Grand Theft Auto IV and all future Rockstar Games titles”. It has since been used for the likes of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. It seems however that the service is being revamped ahead of the official announcement of Grand Theft Auto VI – now being known as ‘Rockstar Games Platform’.

As discovered by ResetEra user ‘dex3108’, Rockstar recently updated their Social Club website, removing all references to the previous name and replacing it with the ‘Rockstar Games Platform’. The only remaining reference to the social club is now in the website’s URL.

While no reason has been given for this change, it is quite clearly being done in anticipation of the upcoming GTA VI, which is set to finally be unveiled in early December.

As of right now, the functionality of the website remains as it always has, letting players track their stats; share screenshots; create crews and more.

With this rebranding however, it will be interesting to see what new functionality the studio has planned for the ‘Rockstar Games Platform’ when GTA VI releases – hopefully sometime next year.

All the way back in 2009, Rockstar announced plans to develop a new exclusive game for PlayStation consoles, known as Agent. After the reveal, Rockstar never mentioned the project again. Now over a decade later, a former Rockstar North veteran has shared details on what went on with the game behind the scenes.

While modern Rockstar has mostly resigned itself to primarily working on its two best-known franchises, Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, over a decade ago, the studio was still exploring multiple new IPs, resulting in games like Bully, LA Noire and for a time, Agent was amongst those projects.

Former Rockstar technical director Obbe Vermeij, who worked at the studio for 14 years but left over a decade ago, published a blog post this week sharing some small details on the canned game ‘Agent'. Apparently, the game was going to be set in the 1970s and would be a more linear game compared to the GTA series, starring a spy known as Jimmy, who was set to be the Scottish version of James Bond.

The game was being developed for quite some time but it didn't progress as quickly as the team had apparently hoped. Production on Grand Theft Auto IV was due to ramp up and in an effort to finish Agent before having to move on to support the development of the next Grand Theft Auto, the team began making cuts, including scrapping an entire level. However, the game was not completed in time and Rockstar's various studios were called in to help out on GTA 4, putting other projects on hold.

It is unclear if Rockstar had planned to return to Agent after GTA 4's release, but ultimately, the game was apparently viewed as a ‘distraction' from Rockstar's ambitions with GTA and as a result, the game was put on ice and Rockstar eventually abandoned the trademark for the game.

We do know one thing for sure though, this information was legitimate and Rockstar wasn't too happy about the small tidbits of information being shared, as Vermeij was swiftly contacted by the company and asked to remove the blog post, which he promptly did. However, all of the juicy details contained within have already done their rounds across the web.

KitGuru Says: Agent would have been an interesting game but at the same time, Grand Theft Auto is Rockstar's crowning achievement, which is even more evident now after the decade-long success of Grand Theft Auto V. At this point in the studio's history, I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see an all-new IP from Rockstar for a very long time, outside of perhaps an experimental, small-scale game, like a VR project.

After more than a decade, Rockstar Games is finally set to show off Grand Theft Auto VI next month. This has not stopped GTA V from continuing to sell like hotcakes however, with the game now having surpassed 190 million copies.

As part of the company’s most recent fiscal report, Take-Two Interactive released updated sales stats for both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. As shared by industry analyst ‘DomsPlaying’ Grand Theft auto V has sold-in an additional 5 million copies since last quarter, bringing the total number of units sold to a staggering 190 million.

While perhaps not quite as explosive as GTA, Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to truck along, selling 2 million more copies since last quarter, bringing its total units sold to 57 million – just 1 million copies shy of becoming the 7th best-selling game of all time.

With GTA VI finally set to be revealed next month, it will be interesting to see whether future sales of V will finally begin to slow down. Regardless, it is safe to say that when all is said and done the 2013 title will have surpassed 200 million copies – ensuring its 2nd place on the best-seller podium for years to come.

Following on from a leak last night, Rockstar has now confirmed its plans for a Grand Theft Auto 6 reveal. A credible source this week suggested that the first GTA 6 trailer would arrive this month, possibly even as early as this week. That wasn't entirely accurate, as the reveal trailer is dropping in early December instead.

As part of Rockstar's 25th Anniversary celebration, the company will be dropping the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto game. Given the timing, it is possible that the trailer will debut during The Game Awards, which takes place on the 7th of December. However, Rockstar typically likes to do things on its own, so we wouldn't be surprised to see the trailer drop separately from the event.

We've known about Grand Theft Auto 6 for quite some time, with Rockstar confirming that the game is in development. Last September, a network breach led to the leak of hours of gameplay footage, giving fans a sneak peek at an early build of the game.

The game will be set in a revamped, fictional version of Miami and feature two protagonists.

KitGuru Says: We don't have an exact date, but at least we won't be sitting around all November refreshing Rockstar's feeds. Hopefully once the trailer arrives, it also comes with a release window. Currently, GTA 6 is expected to be targeting late 2024.

We've seen a lot of Grand Theft Auto 6 rumours recently, with many fans hoping for a reveal in October. Obviously, that never came to pass but a new report this week claims that Rockstar will indeed be releasing the first GTA 6 trailer soon, just in time for Rockstar's 25th Anniversary.

According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, one of the few games industry reporters with access to sources in Rockstar, Take-Two will be publishing the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 soon, possibly as early as this week.

The trailer reveal would come over a year on from a major network breach, in which someone was able to steal gameplay clips of an early build of the game, which were then shared online. The leaks confirmed that the game will be set in a fictional version of Miami and will star two protagonists, one male and one female.

Take-Two is holding its quarterly earnings report later today, so there is a chance we see the trailer drop around that same time.

KitGuru Says: Grant Theft Auto 5 is still incredibly successful and widely played but there is definitely demand for a new entry in the series after a decade. Hopefully a trailer reveal this year means that Rockstar is on track for a 2024 launch but I equally wouldn't be surprised to see it slip into 2025 to avoid issues like crunch.

Last year, shortly following the launch of GTA V: Expanded and Enhanced Edition, Rockstar launched a new GTA+ subscription. Subscribers usually get bonuses for Grand Theft Auto Online, but Rockstar has now expanded the membership to include access to two other GTA games.

Starting today, GTA+ subscribers now get access to Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Chinatown Wars. The catch is that the availability is for iOS and Android devices, so you won't be downloading these games to your console. In order to take advantage, all you have to do is download the games on your smartphone or tablet and then log in with your Rockstar Games Social Club account, the same one you use for your GTA+ subscription. At that point, the full game will unlock.

If you aren't a GTA+ subscriber, you can still download these games on iOS or Android and get a free 30-minute trial. After that, you'll have to purchase the game.

GTA+ is a subscription available to GTA Online players on console, offering bonuses like extra in-game cash, free LS Car Meet Membership, exclusive upgrades for gear and vehicles, and additional rewards from completing races for $5.99 per month.

When Red Dead Redemption Remastered dropped for PlayStation and Switch consoles, Rockstar caught some flack for the lack of 60FPS mode, particularly when the game runs on PS5. With the latest update, this may have been fixed.

As spotted by Push Square, Patch 1.03 for Red Dead Redemption Remastered has rolled out, promising “general bug fixes, stability fixes and improvements”. The patch holds one secret new feature – 60FPS gameplay, but only when playing the PS4 version on a PS5 through backwards compatibility.

As Rockstar did not officially announce 60FPS support with the patch notes, it is unclear if this was supposed to make its way into the game yet, or if 60FPS gameplay will come to other platforms as well.

Red Dead Redemption Remastered launched earlier this year but only for PS4 and Switch. The game is still playable on Xbox Series X/S via backwards compatibility with the Xbox 360 version. A PC release is still non-existent.

KitGuru Says: Given how old Red Dead Redemption is, I wouldn't be surprised if 60FPS was viable on the Switch too. However, the real prize would be a PC version, as PC-only gamers have never had the opportunity to play the original game.

The Nintendo Switch recently received a port of 2011’s Red Dead Redemption, offering a mostly uncompromised experience for those who wish to re-live the story of John Marston in a portable form. In a surprising move, it seems as though Rockstar might be planning to also bring its sequel/prequel ‘RDR2’ to Nintendo’s platform – at least according to the Brazilian ratings board.

As reported by the editor-in-chief of Universo Nintendo ‘Felipe’, the Brazilian game ratings board published a listing of Red Dead Redemption 2 for the Nintendo Switch – implying that the multi-award-winning open world title could find its way onto Nintendo’s handheld hybrid.

Few additional details were shared, however Felipe did confirm that the listing pertains to a native version of the game, as opposed to some sort of cloud-reliant experience. If this is indeed the case, it will be highly curious to see how the team have managed to get the impressively detailed and dense world of Red Dead Redemption 2 to perform well on Nintendo’s ageing hardware.

This should all be taken with a pinch of salt for now, however with the recent FTC leak indicating that we might be getting a remaster of RDR2 for current-gen consoles, it is possible that Rockstar are planning some sort of coordinated release across all three platforms.

That said, RDR2 still remains one of the best looking open world titles despite being on now-last-gen devices, and so it would be highly interesting to see how the team would manage to port it over to the Switch in an acceptable manner. We will have to wait and see whether this ultimately pans out.

Rockstar's next major game will be none other than Grand Theft Auto 6. However, that doesn't mean the studio's other esteemed franchises will be left behind. A recent leak claims that Red Dead Redemption 3 will be coming up.

Take-Two CEO, Strauss Zelnick already confirmed that he believes Red Dead Redemption should continue in an interview back in 2021, likening Rockstar's franchises to entertainment behemoths like James Bond. However, in that same interview, he also stressed the company's desire to make each major Rockstar game feel like a special event, which ultimately means ‘resting' titles for a period of time to build up demand for a sequel.

Film leaker MyTimeToShineH recently claimed that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is on the way and they have also made the claim that Red Dead Redemption 3 is “officially in the works“. This person does have a track record for film leaks but is not an established games leaker, so we aren't sure how reliable their sources are in this space.

With that said, Red Dead Redemption 2 was a huge success, although its online multiplayer component did not see the same level of support as GTA Online, which continues to be very popular now ten years later. If a third Red Dead Redemption game is made, it will be interesting to see if we go further back in time to shed light on events leading up to Red Dead Redemption 2, or if we see a whole new cast of characters.

GTA Online has been a huge success for Rockstar and has arguably been a bigger draw to GTA V than the excellent single-player portion of the game. Role Playing servers have been a huge thing for GTA Online too, with many of them flocking to mods like FiveM to enable more gameplay features. Now, Rockstar is bringing the FiveM developers on board to work on future games in an official capacity.

FiveM and RedM offer Roleplay online gameplay for both GTA Online and Red Dead Online. These mods have been the most popular amongst GTA Online players. In an announcement today, Rockstar announced that Cfx.re, the team behind these mods, is now officially joining Rockstar Games.

Rockstar took steps towards this last year by expanding on its policies to allow for Roleplay servers and communities in online titles. This acquisition doesn't mean FiveM or RedM will be going away, but it may increase the chances of an official RP mode implementation for future games.

Rockstar is currently hard at work on Grand Theft Auto 6, which in turn will usher in a new age of GTA Online as well. Official, dedicated RP servers will hopefully now be part of the plan the next game.

KitGuru Says: Back when GTA V first launched on PC, Rockstar and Take-Two were pretty heavy-handed with shutting down mod projects. However, the community refused to stop and eventually, Rockstar did become more accepting of mods as part of the GTA experience. Bringing on the teams behind the most popular modding projects seems like a much better idea than trying to stamp out community creativity.

10 years on from its initial release and GTA V is still selling like hotcakes, with millions of new players purchasing the game every single Quarter. Take-Two Interactive have now shared their latest fiscal report, revealing that – as expected – GTA V has shifted another 5 million copies, bringing the total sales to over 185 million.

As part of Take-Two Interactive’s most recent fiscal earnings report the holding company shared updated sales figures on some of its biggest titles – namely GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2.

With 5 million additional sales since the last Quarter, GTA V is now officially at 185 million copies sold-in. This helps the game to maintain its position as the second-best selling game of all time (only behind Minecraft). Interestingly, the publisher offered a very minor update on the much-anticipated GTA VI, saying “active development on the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto Series is well underway.”

Shifting to Rockstar Games’ other big IP, the company revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 has managed to sell an additional 2 million units this Quarter (down from 3 million), putting the 2018 title at over 55 million copies sold – an impressive figure considering the fact that there is yet to be a PS5 / Xbox Series X|S version of the game released.

With how many units GTA V in particular continues to sell, it will be interesting to see just how long it will take for the title to hit 200 million copies. It seems like only a matter of time.

In recent weeks there has been evidence of an impending Red Dead Redemption-related announcement from Rockstar. Many unfortunately gave the studio a bit too much credit in thinking that this would be a remaster. Red Dead Redemption is not being remastered, but it is coming out again, this time for Nintendo Switch and ‘modern PlayStation consoles', skipping PC and Xbox.

Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare Expansion will be packaged together and sold for Nintendo Switch and PS4 (PS5 via backwards compatibility). The game will not feature any graphical or performance updates, so it will continue to run at 30FPS and won't look much better beyond what was already possible.

One of the reasons this may be skipping Xbox is due to the backwards-compatible version already being available. On an Xbox Series X, you can even resolution boost the game to a sharp 4K, which will likely end up looking better than this PS4/Switch re-release.

While skipping Xbox can be forgiven in this case, skipping PC is absolutely baffling. The original version didn't come to PC but the demand for its release has only grown in the years following Red Dead Redemption 2. Many want to experience the story for the first time and are continuing to be cut off.

The PS4/Switch version price also has a pretty big question mark around it. As it stands, Rockstar wants to charge $50 for a 13-year old game, with no actual remastered features. Even for the Switch version, the only brand new platform now getting the game, I'd be wary of paying that much.

KitGuru Says: This is a highly underwhelming announcement but ultimately, this is why we should always be cautious of rumours. Still, you'd think that a company with Rockstar's financial resources could do far more than this.

After shipping Red Dead Redemption 2, Dan Houser took an extended break from the games industry and ultimately left Rockstar Games in 2020, a little over two decades after co-founding the company. Now, Dan Houser is returning with a new company known as Absurd Ventures.

Houser's new company will focus on creating new IP across all platforms and formats, so it is a media company rather than a game-focused studio. With that in mind, Houser will be focusing on “building narrative worlds, creating characters and writing stories for a diverse variety of genres without regard to medium”.

Some of Houser's projects could end up turning into film or TV shows, others might become comics and there may be a game or two somewhere along the way but for now, it doesn't sound like there are any hard promises.

There is a new website set up for Absurd Ventures but it doesn't contain much content. There is a short YouTube video with random clips smashed together, a piece of art claiming that robots are depressed and a registration page to sign up for a mailing list.

What’s more, Take-Two revealed that in total the GTA franchise has now sold over 400 million copies – meaning GTA V has shifted nearly as many copies as the rest of the series combined.

In looking at Red Dead Redemption 2, the company shared that the 2018 title has now sold-in over 53 million copies (up 3 million since last Quarter), putting the Red Dead Redemption duology at over 75 million copies shipped in total.

At this point, Rockstar has been forced to acknowledge the existence of Grand Theft Auto 6 following a series of leaks that showed alpha gameplay. We still don't have a release date for the game yet, but the latest investor update from Rockstar parent company, Take-Two, gives us a pretty good hint that the game will be released in 2024.

In Take-Two's recent earnings report, the publisher predicts that it will hit a record high of $8 billion in net bookings during its 2024 to 2025 fiscal year, which runs from April 2024 to the end of March 2025. For reference, in 2022, Take-Two reported net bookings of $3.5 billion and in 2023, it was $5.3 billion.

Interestingly, Take-Two also says it expects to sustain this momentum in future years too. There are very few games on the market that could give a publisher this level of confidence in future financial success, and with Grand Theft Auto 6 being the follow-up to one of the highest-selling games of all time in GTA V, it seems likely that Take-Two has GTA 6 on its schedule for the next fiscal year.

Nothing has been officially announced yet and typically, Rockstar does like to announce its games around a year before launch, barring potential delays after the announcement, as we saw with Red Dead Redemption 2.

With GTA V nearing its 10th anniversary, many fans have been eagerly awaiting the announcement and release of the game’s sequel. According to one insider however, we may be waiting for almost 2 more years.

The Rockstar-focused industry insider Tez2 recently took to the GTA Forums to offer an update on the development of Grand Theft Auto 6, saying (as shared by Twitter page ‘GTA6Intel’):

“Their aimed-always-changing-not-set-in-stone deadline is holiday 2024. Which has been pushed back multiple times the past few years. Unfortunately, it could slip into early 2025 as well.”

Offering their own editorial on the matter, Tez2 claimed that “I personally see an announcement as a given this year. I don't think the upper management is in a position to delay further to holiday 2025/2026. Cutting more portions of the game to package into DLCs to release later on may be [more] sustainable for management than delaying further.”

There is no denying that when GTA 6 does finally release it will be an industry-breaking event and so Rockstar have certainly earned as much time as they need in order to ensure that the next GTA is up to the series’ standard of quality. All that said, the wait for GTA 6 is more and more painful each day, and so hopefully we do see an official announcement this year.

KitGuru says: What do you think of these leaks? When do you think GTA 6 will be announced and released? Let us know down below.

It seems as though Rockstar’s games have reached a level of mainstream which pretty much guarantees that the developer’s title will be a smash commercial hit. Despite not having the same cache and history as Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 has now officially sold over 50 million copies.

Take Two recently held an investor presentation where the holding company revealed that 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2 has finally sold over 50 million copies, making it the 8th best-selling game of all time. In total, the Red Dead Redemption franchise has now sold a total of 70 million copies – an impressive feat for a series consisting of just two games.

Of course, the juggernaut known as GTA V has continued to sell like hotcakes, with the 2013 title now having officially sold over 175 million units – maintaining its second place position on the game sales podium (only behind Minecraft’s mammoth sales of 238 million copies).

With Grand Theft Auto VI still a ways away, it will be interesting to see whether GTA V manages to hit 200 million units by the time its sequel is finally released. Furthermore, with a 3rd Red Dead Redemption game nowhere in sight, it’s entirely possible and probable that RDR2 will end its life as a top 5 best-selling game of all time. We will have to wait and see.

Back in December we reported that it seemed as though Rockstar’s controversial GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition would be coming to Steam thanks to an internal update within the Rockstar Games Launcher. A little over one year after its initial release, GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has now been shadowdropped onto the platform.

Available right now, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition can be currently had for 50% off as part of the game’s Steam launch promotion, bringing the price of the three remastered games to £27.49 – a much more reasonable ask when compared to the title’s RRP of £54.99.

When Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition first launched back in late 2021, it was met with a great deal of criticism due to a litany of bugs, visual glitches – and in the eyes of some a downgrade in art style.

In the year since its launch, the collection has received multiple updates, and while the game is currently in a much better state than it was at launch, the remastered package could certainly do with further improvements and so hopefully this new release includes such refinements.

When Rockstar Games finally released GTA V: Expanded and Enhanced for current-gen systems, the sentiment surrounding the update was somewhat muted due to rather minimal improvements across the board – especially when it came to the game’s graphics. In a surprising move, Rockstar Games have now announced that GTA Online will be getting ray-traced reflections.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of GTA V did launch with some ray tracing, however at the time it was limited to just RTAO (ray-traced ambient occlusion). While a nice addition, it is perhaps one of the least impactful forms of ray-tracing.

It is therefore exciting to see that in an upcoming update, GTA Online for PS5 and Series X will be getting ray-traced reflections, with Rockstar Games taking to their blog to say:

“With this year drawing to a close, we'd like to thank our devoted community of enterprising criminals, creators, and competitors in Grand Theft Auto Online, and provide some details on what is still to come.”

Alongside general improvements, quality-of-life changes and “a fleet of new vehicles, world events, Contact Missions, and more,” GTA Online on PS5 and Series X is set to receive “ray-traced reflections — rendering real-time reflections on many surfaces — via the Fidelity Mode graphics setting.”

Alongside Ray-Traced Global Illumination, RT Reflections is one of the most impactful forms of ray tracing – especially for a game such as GTA V which is set in a massive city with tall skyscrapers; shiny vehicles; rain; the sea and more. This update is set to arrive before the end of the year. Hopefully these features are eventually brought to PC.

The game has since seen multiple patches, and just over one year following its initial release, the trilogy looks set to come to Steam.

As discovered by the Rockstar Games-focused Twitter account ‘VideoTech_’ new code within an update to the Rockstar Games Launcher seems to suggest that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will soon leave the confines of the developer’s bespoke PC client and will come to both the Epic Games Store and Steam.

We do not yet know when this will be announced, however when it does arrive, ‘VideoTech_’ believes that it will be accompanied by a patch of some kind. As mentioned, in the year since its launch, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has received multiple updates, and while the game is currently in a much better state than it was at launch, the remastered package could certainly do with further improvements and so hopefully this is indeed the case. We will have to wait and see.

Thanks to a massive leak, we know that the ever-elusive GTA VI is indeed in development at Rockstar Games. This has done little to slow down the rate at which people continue to buy the now almost 10-year-old GTA V however, with Take-Two confirming that the game has now sold almost 175 million copies.

As part of Take-Two’s most recent fiscal reports, it was revealed (as collated by Twitter user ‘videotech_’) that Grand Theft Auto V has sold between 170-175 million copies – continuing its reign as the second-highest selling game of all time (only behind Minecraft’s 238 million units).

The much more recently-released Red Dead Redemption 2 has continued to sell admirably, with it alongside Red Dead Online now having sold a total of over 46 million units, keeping it as the 10th best-selling game of all time while selling exactly twice as many copies as the first Red Dead Redemption.

With Grand Theft Auto VI still a ways away, it will be interesting to see whether GTA V manages to hit 200 million units by the time its sequel is finally released. We will have to wait and see.
