The Nvidia RTX 40 series and AMD Radeon RX 7000 series have finally made their first appearance on the Steam hardware survey. Out of all the new generation GPUs currently available, the RTX 4090 has the biggest share of users, but considering the RTX 4070 Ti released just a few weeks ago, there's a good chance that will change soon.

Looking at the Steam hardware survey for January 2023, we see numerous new GPUs. From AMD, we have the Radeon RX 7900 series with a 0.07% share for Windows systems. Unfortunately, Steam doesn't distinguish the Radeon RX 7900 XTX from the XT model, so it's hard to see which is the favourite among gamers.

On the Nvidia side, we have the RTX 4080 with a 0.14% share and the RTX 4070 Ti with a 0.10% share. Surprisingly, the biggest winner is the RTX 4090, the most expensive of all three, with a 0.23% share. It's also worth noting that the RTX 40 series laptop GPUs were present on the Linux systems ranking, but as expected, their share was still 0.00%.

Despite the impressive 0.24% share for a £2,000 GPU, it's still far from achieving the popularity of the ones found at the podium. Currently, the GTX 1650 is at the top with 6.04%, followed by the GTX 1060 with 5.10% and the RTX 3060 laptop with 4.30%.

While Nvidia hasn't officially announced the RTX 4070 Ti, a number of leaks are pointing to a January launch for the new graphics card. In the latest leak, we see this GPU tested in OctaneBench, tested with both CUDA and Metal APIs.

The benchmark entry spotted by a user of the LaptopVideo2Go forum (via VideoCardz) is the only one in the database, so it may not accurately represent the GPU's rank in OctaneBench. Still, with 725 points, it currently sits in the 3rd place. This score is followed by the RTX 4080 in 2nd with an average of 928 points and the RTX 4090 in 1st with 1,268 points.

Although it's the lowest-ranked RTX 40 series GPU, the 725 points it scored was enough to blow past all RTX 30 series GPUs, including the RTX 3090 Ti, which can be found in 4th place with 688 points. That puts the RTX 4070 Ti 5% above the RTX 30 series flagship GPU. Despite the impressive score, one should note that we don't know the card's exact configurations nor if the card was overclocked.

Rumours claim Nvidia will announce the RTX 4070 Ti on the 3rd of January during its CES keynote.

KitGuru says: Will the RTX 4070 Ti be able to outperform the RTX 3090 Ti in games? Hopefully we won't have to wait much longer to find out.

We've been hearing rumours about Nvidia's next-generation GeForce graphics cards for a while now. In the latest report, it has been claimed that a fully enabled AD104 GPU is capable of matching the RTX 3090 Ti in performance.

According to kopite7kimi, a graphics card (PG141-SKU331) based on a fully enabled AD104 GPU might be in development. They claim this card will feature a 400W TDP and come with 7,680 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR6X memory clocked at 21Gbps across a 192-bit bus. This spec can apparently go head to head with an RTX 3090 Ti.

Comparing the rumoured specifications of the other RTX 40 series cards with this one, this card would be placed between the RTX 4070 and the RTX 4080.

Nvidia is expected to announce the first RTX 40 series GeForce GPUs this year, but nothing has been officially revealed yet.

We've not seen as many free game promotions with graphics cards this generation, likely in part due to the major stock shortages preventing many gamers from upgrading in 2021. At this point, availability has vastly improved and we're finally starting to see some deals. This week, Nvidia has begun offering free copies of Doom Eternal and its expansions, as well as Ghostwire: Tokyo, with certain graphics card purchases.

Nvidia's “Face Your Demons” campaign arrives this week, offering £100 worth of games when picking an RTX 3080 powered laptop or desktop, or an RTX 3080, RTX 3080 Ti, RTX 3090 or RTX 3090 Ti graphics card.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is an Action-Adventure FPS developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda. The game is set in the city of Tokyo after a series of paranormal events made 99% of the city's population disappear without a trace. With a 76 OpenCritic score, most critics praise the game's atmosphere and visual design.

On the other hand, Doom Eternal barely needs any introduction. Following the success of the 2016 reboot, the sequel is one of the best single-player shooters in the last couple of years, currently sitting at an 89 OpenCritic score. Both The Ancient Gods DLCs parts were not as highly rated as the base game. However, they still bring extra content worth playing, especially if you enjoy Doom's game design.

The promotion will run from July 12th to August 1st or while stocks last. Only purchases made after July 12th will be eligible to earn game codes (Steam). You may redeem your code by September 1st.

If you have a Gigabyte RTX 3090 Ti Aorus Xtreme or the RTX 3090 Ti Gaming and you're not happy with its cooling performance, it might be worth knowing that Phanteks has just launched a new water block for those cards.

The new Glacier water block is bundled with a backplate and thermal pads to improve passive cooling, even if the RTX 3090 Ti GPUs don't have back-facing memory modules like the RTX 3090 cards. However, the block will undoubtedly help drop GPU temperatures and control other hotspots, as long as you have a decent custom loop to back it up.

Like in other Glacier blocks, the copper base that makes contact with the chip is nickel plated. The top is clear acrylic and has VITON O-rings for added reliability and longevity. Depending on which bundle you've chosen, the cover plate on the top and the backplate can come in black or chrome.

Both variants have D-RGB lighting that can be synced with other Phanteks' D-RGB accessories or via motherboard RGB software from motherboard vendors. The Phanteks Gigabyte bundle will be available in late June, priced at €229.99/$229.99/£194.90 for the black version and €249.99/$249.99/£214.90 for the chrome version.

Computex 2022 is now in full swing. Following on from the major AMD and Nvidia keynotes, MSI has now unveiled its full line-up for the year, including new gaming laptops and PCs, new monitors, graphics cards and other hardware.

Alongside AMD's keynote, MSI unveiled its range of upcoming X670 and X607E motherboards for the Ryzen 7000 series. You can read more about that in our motherboard round-up.

Aside from motherboards, MSI also has a lot going on in other areas too. For starters, the company has announced the new Titan GT77 gaming laptop, a flagship desktop replacement laptop, which will likely pack a 12th Gen Core i9 processor and up to RTX 3080 Ti graphics. More details on the new Titan laptop will be revealed soon. On the gaming desktop side, MSI has also announced the MAG Trident S 5M, a gaming PC dedicated to cloud and mobile gaming. The system comes with a Ryzen 7 APU and supports FSR technology, so it should upscale well for living room TVs.

MSI also has a new ‘modern' series of monitors coming to market this year, packing anti blue light and anti-flicker features to protect the user's eyes without sacrificing colours. Each of these monitors will ship with a 4-way adjustable stand, USB Type-C Display with 65W power delivery and a KVM switch. Aside from the standalone monitors, MSI also has a Modern AM242 all-in-one PC launching, also aimed at acting as a private cloud to help you back up and transfer files between mobile devices.

On the components front, MSI has revealed new RTX 3090 Ti Gaming X Trio and SUPRIM X graphics cards, using MSI's top two cooler designs with Nvidia's newly refreshed flagship GPU. MSI has also announced the Spatium M480 PCIe 4.0 NVMe 2TB SSD, capable of up to 7000MB/s read speeds. Better yet, the new SSD works with both PC and PS5, so if you want to upgrade your console's storage, this drive should do the trick.

MSI is also re-showing its first WiFi 6 gaming router, the RadiX AXE6600. We first caught wind of this at the beginning of the year, and the router has returned again at Computex. This is a tri-band router with seven high-speed channels on a low-interference frequency band to ensure better network performance between devices throughout the home.

Most reports put the RTX 3090 Ti just slightly above the RTX 3090 in terms of specifications, but it's hard to say how that translates into real-world scenarios. However, new reports suggest this spec bump will result in a 5-10% performance increase.

According to CapFrameX and MEGAsizeGPU, the upcoming graphics card will come with a 450W TGP and a boost clock speed of over 2GHz. It is also claimed that Nvidia's MSRP for the RTX 3090 Ti is the same as the RTX 3090, but recent retail listings hint at much higher prices for custom-cooled versions.

It is also worth noting that another report from MyDrivers (via VideoCardz), claims the GPU will cost $1,999 in the US and  ¥14,999 in China, so there is some conflicting information regarding pricing.

The RTX 3090 Ti is expected to feature a fully enabled GA102 GPU with 10,752 CUDA cores boosting up to 1,860MHz. The memory configuration should consist of 24GB of GDDR6X memory running at 21Gbps across a 384-bit memory bus.

After a delay in January, Nvidia is reportedly set to launch the RTX 3090 Ti next week. Unfortunately for anyone thinking about splurging on Nvidia's improved flagship, pricing is looking to be incredibly steep, with early retail listings pushing the price up to around $4000 USD – for reference, the RTX 3090's launch price was $1500.

Twitter account, momomo_us, has been keeping an eye on retailers across the world for new GPU listings. Recently, a Canadian retailer listed two RTX 3090 TIs, an ASUS GF TUF Strix model, and an ASUS ROG Strix LC model. The former was priced at $4,649.19 CAD, which works out to $3680 USD, while the latter was priced at $5,239.93 CAD, which works out to roughly $4,150 USD. Here in the UK, those prices would roughly work out to be £2800 and £3150.

At launch, the RTX 3090 had an MSRP of $1500 USD, although custom-cooled cards from board partners were significantly more expensive. Once the GPU shortage kicked into full swing, retail pricing rose to match the second-hand market. Nvidia has not yet revealed an MSRP for the RTX 3090 Ti and given the current market situation, it may opt not to announce one at all.

Current rumours claim the RTX 3090 Ti will launch next week, powered by a full GA102 GPU with 10,752 CUDA cores and 24GB of GDDR6 memory.

In a surprise twist, Nvidia has delayed production of its newest flagship GPU, the RTX 3090 Ti. Announced earlier this month at CES 2022, we were expecting to see this card launch on the 27th of January, but this has now been pushed back indefinitely.

This news comes from TweakTown (via VideoCardz) and we have independently confirmed it with our own sources. In the last day or two it seems Nvidia took the decision to indefinitely delay the RTX 3090 Ti's launch, with VideoCardz claiming ‘issues with both the BIOS and hardware.'

As rightly pointed out by VideoCardz, a firm launch date wasn't announced at CES 2022, but Nvidia did say we would get more information on this GPU later in January. It's likely that will be the announcement of a later launch date than expected, possibly in February.

We will update this article if we get any further information. You can read our announcement piece on the 3090 Ti HERE.

The power delivery system has also been changed, replacing the original's 3x PCIe 8-pin power connectors with 2x PCIe 5.0 power connectors (16x pins from which 4x are optional for data paths). The latter is believed to be fully compatible with Nvidia's 12-pin power connectors used in RTX 30 series reference cards. This change in connectors might be related to power consumption, but we won't know for sure until Nvidia makes the RTX 3090 Ti official.

Currently, EVGA is said to be optimising the BIOS for the card, with plans to release in Q1 or Q2. Other RTX 3090 Ti models should be available at an earlier date, although with the on-going chip shortage, retail availability will likely be as limited as other RTX 30 series GPUs.

KitGuru says: If EVGA will be using PCIe 5.0 power connectors for its RTX 3090Ti Kingpin graphics card, there's a possibility that other partners will do the same with their SKUs.

According to Igor'sLAB, Nvidia has postponed the launch of the RTX 3080 12GB and RTX 3070 Ti 16GB SKUs. The delay apparently came down to a shortage of parts, pushing launch back from January to sometime after the Chinese New Year.

It is also possible that Nvidia wants to hold back a bit to see how Intel's Arc Alchemist GPUs perform. Current rumours suggest Intel's flagship GPU will offer similar performance to an RTX 3070 Ti.

While there have been some delays,  the RTX 3090 Ti is reportedly still on schedule and is expected to launch in January as previously thought.

In recent months, there have been a ton of rumours around Nvidia's plans for early 2022, with sources claiming that we'll see several new RTX 30 series graphics cards. Now, we seem to have release dates for three of them, with the RTX 3050, RTX 3070 Ti 16GB, RTX 3090 Ti supposedly coming in January.

According to VideoCardz, the RTX 3070 Ti 16GB will be announced on December 17th and released on January 11th. It is also claimed that we'll see the RTX 3090 Ti made available on the 27th of January. In a separate report, it is claimed that the desktop version of the RTX 3050 will be announced at CES on the 4th of January, with availability planned for the 27th of January.

Oddly enough, there is no mention of the rumoured 12GB RTX 3080, which we had assumed would be coming at the same time as the 16GB version of the RTX 3070 Ti. A 12GB version of the RTX 3080 has been rumoured for quite some time and most recently appeared in the EEC database, following new filings from Gigabyte.

Aside from Nvidia's own GPU launches, we also expect to see new graphics and CPU announcements from AMD and Intel during CES 2022.

KitGuru says: Will you still be trying to get hold of an RTX 30 series GPU in 2022, or are you going to wait for next-gen cards at this point?

Over the last few months, there has been an increasing number of rumours pointing to new Nvidia graphics cards in early 2022. One of these cards is apparently none other than the RTX 3090 Ti, which will reportedly feature new GDDR6X memory modules from Micron.

According to Uniko's Hardware Micron's “MT61K512M32KPA-21U” GDDR6X memory modules are destined for the RTX 3090 Ti, bringing maximum speeds of 21Gbps.

The unannounced RTX 3090 Ti is also said to be the first to feature 2GB GDDR6X modules, so we should see a total of 12x front-faced modules, unlike the RTX 3090, which has 12 facing the front and another 12 facing the rear of the PCB. This card is expected to feature a fully enabled GA102 GPU with 10752 CUDA cores and use a 384-bit bus for the memory. The TDP is expected to be around 450W.

Like the RTX 3080 12GB and RTX 3070 Ti 16GB, the RTX 3090 Ti is rumoured to launch in January 2022.

KitGuru Says: If all of this proves true, then the RTX 30 series is going to get pretty crowded in 2022 and due to the on-going chip shortage, getting hold of one is still going to be very difficult.

Recent rumours have claimed that Nvidia is working on multiple new RTX 30 series graphics cards. Apparently, we're not only going to get Super series GPUs, but there may also be an RTX 3090 Ti on the way. According to reports, the RTX 3090 Ti may come with a new PCIe 5.0 connector, capable of delivering up to 600W of power.

According to VideoCardz, new SKU names have been obtained by board partners, leading to the RTX 3090 Ti. For specs, it is expected that this GPU will have a 450W TDP, a new PCIe 5.0 connector and 24GB of GDDR6X memory clocked at 21Gbps. This 24GB of GDDR6X memory would come in as 12x 2GB modules, so it's quite likely that the new GPU would also feature a new PCB.

Igor's LAB did some additional investigation into the new PCIe 5.0 power connector, finding that this new connector will be based on a completely new High Power connector (H+) standard and should be featured in new graphics cards starting in 2022. The new 12V power connector will have 16x lanes, from which 12 are power lanes and the remaining 4 are signal lanes.

Each pin of the connector is rated for a maximum of 9.2A, so the connector should be capable of handling up to 55.2A at 12V, resulting in a maximum power output of 662.4W.

The RTX 3090 Ti is apparently coming in January 2022, alongside the long-rumoured RTX 3070 Ti with 16GB of GDDR6X memory and a new RTX 2060 SKU with 12GB of GDDR6 memory.

KitGuru says: It seems Nvidia's 12-pin power connector was short-lived, but it may have played a pivotal role in showing other manufacturers that a new power connector was needed. With the new standard, the era when you had to plug 3x 8-pin power connectors to power your GPU will be gone. Instead, you'll just need one, just as long as GPUs don't exceed 600W of power consumption.
