Diablo 4's anticipated ray-tracing update arrives this week, bringing ray-traced shadows and reflections to the land of Sanctuary. This isn't the only game getting RTX feature support this week though, with DLSS also heading to several other major games.

Diablo 4's ray-tracing update drops this week, adding to previously available features like DLSS 2 or DLSS 3 with Frame Generation and Nvidia Reflex. Alone in the Dark, a new reboot of the classic horror franchise, is also available this week with DLSS 2, allowing RTX graphics card users to save some performance without sacrificing much in the way of visual fidelity.

Here are the full bullet points from Nvidia, including performance details for new releases like Horizon Forbidden West and Outpost: Infinity Siege:

 • Diablo IV – new update is available now which adds ray-traced effects to Sanctuary. The game is already accelerated with DLSS 3 Frame Generation and Reflex. The update adds ray traced reflection and shadows. With a GeForce RTX 40 Series GPU, you can multiply performance by up to 3X thanks to DLSS 3.
 • Outpost: Infinity Siege – launches today with DLSS 3 Frame Generation , DLSS Super Resolution and Reflex. At 4K, with every setting maxed out, DLSS 3 will multiply performance by an average of 3.3X in Outpost: Infinity Siege. With this massive frame rate boost, GeForce RTX 4090 users can hit 160 FPS, the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER exceeds 120 FPS, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER tops 110 FPS, and the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER surpasses 100 FPS, giving GeForce RTX 40 Series gamers the definitive experience at the highest resolution, with everything cranked.
 • Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition – available now with DLSS 3 Frame Generation, DLSS 2 Super Resolution, DLAA and Reflex. At 4K, with every setting maxed out, GeForce RTX 40 Series gamers are able to double their Horizon Forbidden West™ Complete Edition frame rates by enabling DLSS 3 with just a few clicks. On the GeForce RTX 4090, performance tops 180 FPS; the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER surpasses 144 FPS, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti speeds past 120 FPS, the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER exceeds 110 FPS, and the GeForce RTX 4070 runs at over 90 FPS.
 • Alone in the Dark – available now with DLSS 2 Super Resolution.
 • Lightyear Frontier – available now with DLSS 2 Super Resolution and DLAA

There will no doubt be another RTX games update next week, as Nvidia continues to set new milestones for DLSS-supported titles.

Ahead of the annual Game Developers Conference, Nvidia has announced a lengthy list of games – both old and upcoming – which are set to be further enhanced by its RTX capabilities; with the likes of Diablo IV set to get ray-traced reflections and shadows in just a few short weeks.

Making the announcement on their blog, the Nvidia team announced its latest set of RTX updates, saying “Over 500 RTX games and applications have revolutionized how people game and create with ray tracing, NVIDIA DLSS and AI-powered technologies. Today, we’re unveiling even more RTX games that will deliver the definitive PC experience for GeForce RTX gamers.”

With that, they revealed that the much-anticipated UE5-powered Black Myth: Wukong will launch with full path tracing alongside the company’s latest DLSS 3.5 upon the game’s release this August.

Interestingly, it won’t just be new games which will take advantage of DLSS 3.5, as the melee-focused multiplayer Battle Royale Naraka: Bladepoint is set to be updated with path-tracing support alongside DLSS 3.5 ray reconstruction for maximal visual quality at a heavily reduced performance cost.

As mentioned above, Diablo IV is surprisingly being updated to support ray tracing. While not quite the full path-traced experience, the update – arriving on the 26th of March – will add ray-traced reflections; ray-traced transparent reflections and ray-traced shadows.

Though perhaps not quite as transformative as full path tracing, the update should enhance Diablo IV’s moody aesthetic even further.

The annual Game Developers Conference is kicking off on Monday but Nvidia has a few new RTX related announcements going live ahead of the event. This month, even more games are getting RTX features. Diablo 4 will soon get ray-traced graphics, Star Wars Outlaws has been confirmed for ray-tracing and DLSS 3 at launch, while other previously released titles are getting upgrades to their Nvidia-specific features as well.

Black Myth: Wukong and Naraka: Bladepoint are both upgrading with full ray tracing and DLSS 3.5, which includes ray-reconstruction technology for better ray-traced visuals with upscaling turned on. Diablo 4, a game that already supports DLSS 3, will be getting a graphics upgrade on March 26th with ray-traced effects, although Blizzard has yet to confirm if it is only implementing shadows/reflections, or if it is going bigger with GI effects.

Star Wars Outlaws, touted as the very first true open-world Star Wars game, is set to be one of the biggest releases of the year. The game will launch with DLSS 3 for super-charged performance on RTX 40 series graphics cards, and it will include ray-traced graphics.

Portal with RTX, the fully path-traced remake of Valve's classic puzzle shooter, is now available for free, with an upgrade to DLSS 3.5 with Ray Reconstruction. Unfortunately, there is no update on the Half-Life 2 RTX project but hopefully we'll hear about that again later in the year.

Portal with RTX now also benefits from RTX IO, enabling faster GPU-based loading and asset decompression, so textures should load faster and some of the load will be taken off of your storage drive.

Some other tidbits being announced today include:

 • Sengoku Dynasty – in early access now with DLSS 3. At 4K, max settings, DLSS 3 multiplies frame rates by an average of 2X, enabling the GeForce RTX 4070 to comfortably exceed 60FPS. And on faster GPUs performance surpasses 100FPS, topping out at 160FPS on the GeForce RTX 4090.
 • Outcast – A New Beginning – launches March 15th With DLSS 2 & DLAA.
 • The First Berserker: Khazan – launches soon with NVIDIA DLSS 3 and Reflex.
 • NVIDIA RTX Remix Open Beta – DLSS 3.5 with Ray Reconstruction is coming soon, enabling all modders to upgrade their work.
 • The Finals – Season 2 launches today March 14 and includes DLSS 3, RTXGI, and Reflex.

KitGuru Says: What do you think of Nvidia's gaming-related GDC announcements this year? The RTX Remix going into open beta is a pretty big addition here, as it will enable more RTX mods for classic games that don't support ray-tracing.

If you own an Nvidia graphcis card, it is time to update those drivers. The latest Game Ready graphics driver update has dropped, landing alongside news of Horizon: Forbidden West's incoming PC port, which will launch with DLSS 3 support on day-one for multiplied performance on RTX 40-series graphics cards.

We've already covered Horizon Forbidden West's PC launch announcement. The game is coming on the 21st of March and will have support for both DLSS 3, DLSS 2, and Nvidia Reflex at launch. Those with RTX 30 or older GPUs can benefit from DLSS 2, using upscaling techniques to improve frame rates, while those on RTX 40 GPUs can benefit from DLSS 3, which adds in Frame Generation to boost frame rates further at the cost of latency. To counter the additional latency, Nvidia Reflex is provided, which reduces the latency of your entire system for more responsive controls in-game.

Endnight Games’ The Forest was an incredibly popular open-world survival and crafting game. Their critically acclaimed follow-up, Sons Of The Forest, recently exited Early Access with a massive content update and now, the game also supports DLSS 2 for RTX graphics card users looking for a frame rate boost. Mortal Kombat 1, Reveil and Hellbreach: Vegas are several other titles getting DLSS support this week.

Finally, there is also a new GeForce Game Ready driver available to download. The new driver implements day-one support for Thaumaturge, which launches with support for DLSS 3 and Nvidia Reflex this week.

Here we give the low down on this new tool and its capabilities.

The post Nvidia launches Chat with RTX – a locally run, offline and customisable AI chatbot first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
ChatGPT took the world by storm in 2023 but now we're getting to a point where AI-powered chat applications can be installed and run locally, without needing an online connection. Nvidia is bringing offline AI chatting to millions of RTX powered PCs today with the launch of Chat with RTX.

Chat with RTX was first announced in January. The app uses Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), in conjunction with TensorRT-LLM, which users can customise by granting access to specified files and folders. Running locally, Chat with RTX can pull information from text, PDF, doc and XML files, so you can swiftly have the app retrieve data for you. There is also a YouTube transcript function, so you can paste in a YouTube playlist and have the app generate a local transcript. You can then ask the bot questions about the content to sift through what you need.

I've had access to Chat with RTX for a few days already. The initial download is substantial, coming in at over 30GB, and the final install size can be as high as 100GB, depending on the AI models you have installed. To start off with, Chat with RTX will have access to two AI models, Mistral and Llama. The former is a model created by ex Meta and Google employees, while the latter is a model created and released by Meta.

Installing the app takes some time. On my system with a Ryzen 9 5900X and RTX 4080, the install took around 20 minutes, with the LLM install taking the longest amount of time. The install time can take as much as one hour depending on your internet connection and hardware. After the installer wraps up though, loading up the app takes very little time and works impressively quick considering it is running locally.

As the app runs offline, you don't run the risk of exposing your sensitive data online, and you have greater control over what the AI has access to and can pull from. In its base form, Chat with RTX only has access to the RAG folder it comes with, so it can answer some basic questions regarding Nvidia RTX products and features, but won't be able to go beyond that. With that in mind, you'll want to point the app to your own dataset folder.

The most obvious use case to me is as an office assistant, being able to quickly bring up information needed for a task without having to do a manual search. For editors, being able to pull in YouTube transcripts accurately will also save a lot of time. Transcribing a single video takes less than a minute, but as this portion of the app does require contacting servers, the speed may vary depending on how many active users there are, as well as your own internet connection. It will be interesting to see if there is any noticeable slowdown now that the app is widely available for all users.

For local data processing, Chat with RTX is not meant to be a ChatGPT replacement. The app works by breaking down data into chunks, which are then selected based on relevance to your query. So it works well for quickly finding specific facts present in documents, but it doesn't work well for tasks that require ‘reasoning', like summarising a set of documents into key bullet points.

Chat with RTX also does not currently have the ability to remember context, so you won't be able to ask follow-up questions based on your original query. Whether or not this functionality will change over time remains to be seen, but running machine learning and massive data sets locally isn't exactly feasible for the majority of users.

Chat with RTX can be downloaded directly from the Nvidia website. You will need an RTX 3000 or RTX 4000 series graphics card to run the application.

February has kicked off which means it is time for another Nvidia DLSS update. This week, there will be two new games getting DLSS updates. For starters, we have Stormgate, which features both DLSS 2 and DLSS 3.

Stormgate managed to raise over $2.2 million in crowdfunding last year, making it the most successful gaming Kickstarter of 2023. Unlike many other Kickstarter projects, we're getting a pretty swift turnaround here, with Stormgate launching this year. A demo is currently freely available on Steam as part of Steam Next Fest, and it already features DLSS 2 and DLSS 3 in its demo form and will fully launch with both features in place later this year.

The Inquisitor is a new game, offering a story-driven, dark fantasy adventure, set in an alternate version of reality inspired by the book series of the same name. The game comes out on the 8th of February and will feature DLSS 2.

Aside from that, DLSS 3 and DLSS 2 is available in Call of Duty: Warzone, which enters Season 2 tomorrow. Atomic Heart, another DLSS-supported title, is also getting a new expansion this week.

In January, Nvidia released the Geforce 551.23 WHQL graphics driver that introduced a new feature called RTX Video HDR (or TrueHDR). This feature allowed all RTX users to convert non-HDR video streams into HDR videos in real-time, but it is still limited to specific applications. Recently, a modder found a way to get this utility to work with all PC games, making it possible to play virtually any game in HDR.

The modder discovered that the new driver has some hidden “TrueHDR” profile options, which enable users to apply RTX HDR to games that do not support it. This makes it a great alternative to Windows Auto-HDR. The tool is compatible with DX9, DX10, DX11, and DX12 games and may also work with OpenGL and Vulkan games.

You can download this utility over at NexusMods. You will need driver 551.23 or later versions and WDDM 3.1 to activate it. However, it is worth noting that this utility only works with RTX GPUs, so AMD users won't be able to use it.

Currently, TrueHDR is not compatible with Nvidia NIS or DSR. Therefore, if you want to use this mod, you must deactivate them.

KitGuru says: It would be nice if Nvidia officially launched RTX TrueHDR for various applications and games. As we've seen, the current version can be used on more than just web browsers.

The ever-growing list of DLSS-compatible titles just keeps increasing. We have three new titles getting support for Nvidia's upscaling technique, alongside a new DLAA title and the introduction of ray tracing to one of the most popular games of 2023.

The new survival Action RPG Enshrouded was just launched yesterday and already supports DLSS 2 and ray tracing. Moreover, Tekken 8, which is coming out tomorrow, will be released with support for DLSS 2. Lastly, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, also releasing tomorrow, will feature DLSS 3 support at launch.

On January 30th, for the early access release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (exclusive for Deluxe Edition pre-orders), the upcoming Rocksteady title will also get support for Nvidia-exclusive technologies at launch. Instead of just getting DLSS, the game will also support DLAA (AI-based anti-aliasing) on day one.

Finally, there's Diablo IV, which has just received its fourth season of content (Season of the Construct). Although it already supports DLSS 3, the game has yet to receive ray tracing effects. That's changing this March when Blizzard introduces ray-traced reflections and shadows.

KitGuru says: Are you planning on playing any new games that are getting DLSS? Will you try the upcoming ray tracing effects coming to Diablo IV?

Last year, Nvidia updated its drivers to allow for those with an RTX card to intelligently upscale online videos to 4K, remastering them in real-time. The graphics card maker has now taken this one step further, introducing what they are calling RTX Video HDR.

Announced as part of the latest Driver update, Nvidia officially revealed RTX Video HDR – “a new video technology that uses AI and RTX Tensor Cores to dynamically remap Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) video content to High Dynamic Range (HDR10) quality video, improving visibility, details, and vibrance of streamed video.”

This latest RTX Video HDR can be used in tandem with Nvidia’s previously-released RTX Video Super Resolution to drastically improve the video quality of all online media – including livestreams.

RTX Video Super Resolution was already a surprising and welcome addition when it was announced and released last year, but this latest upgrade looks set to take things even further. Hopefully Nvidia continues to innovate in the video space just as much as they do with gaming.

Nvidia's big announcement at CES this year is the RTX 40 Super series, with new RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super and RTX 4070 Super graphics cards set to launch over the next couple of weeks. In our latest coverage, Leo swings by Nvidia's CES booth to get a closer look.

Watch via YouTube below:

Unfortunately due to a technical hiccup we only have a vertical video for the Nvidia booth but if you're interested in learning more about RTX 40 Super, including upcoming custom-cooled versions from board partners, then it is worth the watch.

Nvidia officially announced RTX 40 Super earlier this week. You can see the GPU specs in the table below, compared with each non-Super version:

GPU CUDA Cores Memory Base/Boost speeds TGP
RTX 4080 Super 10240 16GB GDDR6X 2295MHz / 2550MHz 320W
RTX 4080 9728 16GB GDDR6X 2205MHz / 2505MHz 320W
RTX 4070 Ti Super 8448 16GB GDDR6X 2340MHz / 2610MHz 285W
RTX 4070 Ti 7680 12GB GDDR6X 2310MHz / 2610MHz 285W
RTX 4070 Super 7168 12GB GDDR6X 1980MHz / 2475MHz 220W
RTX 4070 5888 12GB GDDR6X 1920MHz / 2475MHz 200W

There will be some Founders Edition models but the real standout here is the display of board partner cards at Nvidia's CES booth. In the video, we can see new custom-cooled versions, complete with the usual hefty heatsinks. Nearly every board partner is represented here, from Gigabyte, MSI and Asus to companies like Galax and Colourful, all of which have new cards ready to go for launch.

While the RTX 4080 originally launched at $1199, the RTX 4080 Super is launching at $999 instead. The RTX 4070 Ti Super and RTX 4070 Super will match the MSRPs of the previous models, coming in at $799 and $599 respectively. The vanilla RTX 4070 meanwhile sees an official price cut to $549, though do note the original 4070 Ti and 4080 will be discontinued in favour of the new Super models.

For those in the UK, Nvidia has confirmed the 4070 Super MSRP at £579, the 4070 Ti Super is £769 and the 4080 Super is £959. Custom-cooled versions will likely go for more than Nvidia's MSRP price.

Dragon’s Dogma released all the way back in 2012, falling under the radar – though amassing a cult-like status amongst those who played the open world RPG. While the first game in the series was hampered somewhat by its technology, Capcom appears to be going all-out for its sequel, announcing that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will include both DLSS and ray-tracing at launch,

Announced by Nvidia during CES, the next batch of RTX-enabled titles have been revealed, including the fact that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will feature both DLSS 3 and ray tracing from launch (on the 22nd of March).

Going into slightly greater specifics, Nvidia confirmed that the ray tracing being used for Dragon’s Dogma will be ray traced reflections and ray traced lighting. Generally, RT reflections and lighting are the two most impactful types of ray tracing.

RT lighting especially will be big for the game, as Dragon’s Dogma 2 features a large open world with a dynamic time of day and an incredibly dark night time – the perfect situation for ray traced lighting.

Last week, Bethesda shipped a new Starfield beta on Steam, adding DLSS 3 with Frame Generation, DLAA and Reflex to the game. These features are still in beta but now, Nvidia has shipped a driver update supporting these features in the game. The latest Game Ready driver also brings additional optimisations for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

The latest driver update promises to deliver “the definitive experience” in Modern Warfare 3, which features all of Nvidia's latest gaming technologies, including DLSS 3, DLAA and Reflex. However, it is worth noting that Frame Generation is only available in the game's campaign mode, as discovered by early buyers of the game over the weekend. The new update also highlights support for DLSS 3, DLAA and Reflex in Starfield, although these features are currently only available in the Steam beta branch of the game.

This driver update also brings a few bug fixes. For starters, an issue that saw gradual performance degradation in Alan Wake 2 has been fixed, and Nvidia Reflex performance should now be improved in Counter-Strike 2.

You can find the patch notes for the new driver and download it directly, HERE. Alternatively, you can also install it directly through the GeForce Experience app.

Nvidia has had quite the run of DLSS 3-supported titles in recent months, with Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty arriving in September, Alan Wake 2 in October and now, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the latest AAA game to sport the tech at launch.

On the 10th of November, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 officially goes live for all players. On PC, RTX 40 users will benefit from DLSS 3 with Frame Generation, utilising AI to boost frame rates by up to 1.8X at 4K with max graphics settings. If you have an older RTX graphics card, you can still use DLSS 2 upscaling to gain a performance boost. Additionally, the game will also support Nvidia Reflex, allowing you to reduce overall system latency for more responsive gameplay.

Aside from Modern Warfare 3, Remnant II is getting a new DLC on the 14th of November, putting the game back in headlines. This particular title also launched with DLSS 3 support, alongside DLSS 2 and Reflex.

The final DLSS-supported title coming this month is Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, a new spin-off in the Yakuza series, focusing on beloved protagonist Kiryu and bridging the gap between Yakuza 7 and its upcoming sequel, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

Last night during the Xbox Partner Preview stream, we finally got a good look at Ark: Survival Ascended gameplay. What wasn't mentioned on the stream was the fact that the PC version was launching imminently. The Unreal Engine 5 remake of the game is now officially available but you may want to hold off on picking it up for now.

Ark: Survival Ascended is a complete remake of Ark: Survival Evolved, this time in Unreal Engine 5 and taking advantage of some of the engine's impressive new graphics technologies. The game dropped yesterday evening but at the time, there were not new graphics drivers released to support it.

Note: These screenshots are taken with max graphics settings – we were getting about 10 frames per second.

The game looks very impressive visually thanks to new lighting and foliage, bringing a new level of life to the maps. However, there are no Game Ready drivers available at the time of writing. On an RTX 3070 Ti with a Ryzen 5800X, the game struggles to get above 30FPS even at low settings with DLSS on. However, this was with the game installed on a SATA SSD. Moving it over to a faster NVMe M.2 SSD improves performance, but we're still unable to reach anywhere close to 60FPS.

Currently, it seems that the game could do with both some patches, as well as driver optimisations from the likes of Nvidia, AMD and Intel to get the game running well across a wider range of graphics cards.

Given that this game also supports DLSS 3, the lack of organisation and day-one driver support is somewhat baffling as most titles using Nvidia's RTX features do get a Game Ready driver. We hope that there will be new driver updates soon to help polish the experience up. In particular, I think the driver will improve DLSS performance as the feature does not seem to be performing entirely correctly right now.

While the game is hitting gaming rigs pretty hard, this is also an Unreal Engine 5 game with a lot of new graphical features thrown in, so a performance hit over the original game should be expected but we still believe there is a lot of room for improvement.

For reference, these are the game's minimum and recommended system requirements:

Minimum:

 • OS: Windows 10/11 with updates
 • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6800K
 • Memory: 16 GB RAM
 • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT, Nvidia GeForce 1080
 • DirectX: Version 12
 • Network: Broadband Internet connection
 • Storage: 70 GB available space
 • Additional Notes: SSD Required

Recommended:

 • OS: Windows 10/11 with updates
 • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, Intel i5-10600K
 • Memory: 32 GB RAM
 • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 6800, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080
 • DirectX: Version 12
 • Network: Broadband Internet connection
 • Storage: 70 GB available space
 • Additional Notes: SSD Required

Ark: Survival Ascended currently has mixed reviews on Steam, with many of them calling out crashing issues and general frame rate problems. While the reviews aren't all positive, the game is still attracting a lot of players, with almost 39,000 concurrent players right now at the time of publishing. That number will likely grow over the weekend.

Alan Wake 2 is just around the corner. We've already had a look at the demanding PC system requirements and now, we get to dive into exactly why the game requires such beefy hardware. The simple answer is ray-tracing, and lots of it.

The team at Remedy began pushing graphical boundaries with Control, one of the first ambitious attempts to bring ray-tracing effects into a game. While many games at the time were sticking to either shadows or reflections, Remedy opted to include a more full suite of ray-tracing effects in Control, including transparent reflections, shadows, diffuse lighting and even ray-traced debris. Now with Alan Wake 2, Remedy is dialling things up once again.

Alan Wake 2 will ship with full path-tracing, becoming one of just a handful of released games to support the technology. This unlocks the full potential of ray-tracing but it comes at a heavy performance cost, which is where DLSS 3 comes in. DLSS 3 is currently an essential requirement for achieving truly playable frame rates with path tracing enabled, which is the main reason you can't switch it on in Cyberpunk 2077 without an RTX 40 series GPU.

Of course, you can dial down to standard ray-tracing settings or toggle certain settings off to achieve more performance on cards that don't support DLSS 3. If you activate DLSS and ray-tracing in Alan Wake 2, Nvidia's ray-reconstruction technology will automatically switch on too, so you'll get better RT fidelity while using the AI upscaling to save on performance.

In Alan Wake 2, the RT Medium and RT High presets both enable path tracing, with the medium setting offering one ray bounce and RT Ambient Occlusion on the last hit. The High preset will trace three ray bounces for even more realistic lighting. The RT Low preset disables path tracing.

Alongside the RTX launch trailer for Alan Wake 2, we also get our first benchmarks. According to Nvidia, at 4K with an RTX 4090 and DLSS 3, you'll be able to max out the game with ray-tracing and still achieve 120FPS. Meanwhile, RTX 4080 users should see a 4.1X performance improvement with DLSS 3. At 1440p, RTX 4070 users will be able to achieve 80+FPS with max settings, including ray-tracing.

Alan Wake 2 officially releases on the 27th of October. The game is also a freebie for anyone picking up an RTX 40 series graphics card this month.

Last week when Ubisoft unveiled the PC system requirements and feature set for Assassin's Creed Mirage, the studio only revealed support for Intel's XeSS upscaling method, leaving out DLSS and FSR, which are often preferred by Nvidia and AMD GPU users respectively. Ubisoft has now cleared things up, confirming that the game will actually support all three upscalers.

Ubisoft has now updated its PC specs blog post for Assassin's Creed Mirage, noting that the game will support Intel XeSS Super Sampling, Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR – presumably FSR 2. The specific DLSS version isn't noted either, so we would assume it is DLSS 2 without Nvidia's newer RTX 40-exclusive frame generation technology.

Today marks the launch of Cyberpunk 2077's hotly-anticipated 2.0 update. That's all well and good, but we have a slightly different reason to be taking a look at the game today, as Nvidia's new DLSS 3.5 technology has also arrived with this latest update. Today we put the new feature through its paces with a whole heap of image quality comparisons, to find out exactly what difference DLSS 3.5 really makes, and how it affects performance…

What is DLSS 3.5?

DLSS 3.5 was announced only recently at Gamescom 2023, bring a new feature to the DLSS family – that being Ray Reconstruction. Unlike other DLSS features, including Super Resolution or Frame Generation, the goal behind Ray Reconstruction isn’t to boost your frame rate by lowering the internal resolution or adding in new frames. Rather, it is designed to significantly boost image quality when playing ray traced games, and it does this by replacing the denoising stage of the render pipeline.

All ray traced games currently utilise one form of denoising or another, but Nvidia is keen to point out the current limitations – temporal accumulation denoisers can introduce ghosting, while spatial interpolation denoisers can reduce detail. No matter how you slice it, current so-called hand-tuned denoisers do reduce ray traced image quality in one form or another.

Not so with Ray Reconstruction – or at least, that’s the idea. By replacing hand-tuned denoisers with an AI network that has apparently been trained on 5 times the data of DLSS 3, Nvidia is claiming massively improved image quality, as Ray Reconstruction can recognise different RT effects and intelligently pull out the key details that might otherwise be lost.

In essence, it’s all about ray traced image quality. There may be some difference to performance as we’ll see later, but this is unlikely to be much of a change either way. Ray reconstruction also works on all RTX GPUs, alongside DLSS Super Resolution, though of course Frame Generation is still limited to 40-series GPUs.

All image quality testing was done using an RTX 4090, with footage captured at 4K/60FPS thanks to the Elgato 4K60.

Image quality comparisons

For a full look at image quality, be sure to watch the video at the top of this page, both to see more examples but also to see how Ray Reconstruction handles motion. Note: The below are 4K screenshots. Please zoom in using your browser if you want to enlarge the image.

Performance

As shown in the video, we observed small performance increases using DLSS 3.5 Ray Reconstruction. As a reminder, it is currently only available with RT Overdrive enabled, so frame rates are lower than they might other wise be with less demanding ray traced effects.

Still, at 4K using DLSS Performance, the RTX 4090 saw its frame rate increase from 72FPS to approximately 77FPS in the Cherry Blossom Market area. The RTX 3080 10GB also saw a boost of 1-3FPS, from about 40FPS up to around 42FPS at 1440p using DLSS Quality. I also tried the RTX 2070 Super and this also performed marginally better with Ray Reconstruction enabled, but it was sub-30FPS even at 1080p using DLSS Quality.

Closing Thoughts

Firstly, if you haven't already, I would encourage you to watch the video at the top of this page to really get the best idea of what Ray Reconstruction looks like – we include about a dozen different image quality comparisons, focusing on both the positive and negative aspects to this new technology.

Undoubtedly though, it is an impressive innovation from Nvidia and one that has huge potential. We saw numerous examples where Ray Reconstruction offered a pretty substantial boost to clarity and detail compared to traditional denoising techniques, while also performing slightly better than said traditional denoisers.

It's not perfect though, as we did notice a few issues with shimmering and image instability in certain scenes, particularly when involving finer details and moving volumetric or particle effects. Ray Reconstruction can also ‘smooth out' an image slightly too much for our tastes, especially when tested at sub-4K resolutions.

The positives far outweigh the negatives however, and if I were to start a new game in Cyberpunk 2077 right now, I'd definitely play it with Ray Reconstruction enabled. I also think it's fair to consider Nvidia has a strong track record of improving its DLSS features – DLSS 2 was a huge leap in quality compared to the original DLSS implementation, while DLSS 3 Frame Generation has also improved since it hit the market last year – so hopefully DLSS 3.5 will only improve in time.

As part of its improvement process, I'd like to see two specific things happen. Firstly, it would be great to be able to enable Ray Reconstruction at native resolution using DLAA. Secondly, I really think Nvidia (or CD Projekt Red) missed a trick by not allowing the technology to be used with single ray traced effects, like reflections or ambient occlusion. Restricting the new technology to only the RT Overdrive mode really does limit how many RTX gamers can realistically use Ray Reconstruction – regardless of the fact they are officially supported, you really do need a high-end 30-series or 40-series GPU to run RT Overdrive mode as it is simply so demanding.

Regardless, there is clearly massive potential here and I'm personally excited to see more games announced with support for DLSS 3.5. Portal with RTX and Alan Wake II are already on the way, but hopefully we will get some more announcements very soon.

Nvidia has been rather rapidly improving its DLSS image reconstruction technology, with the company most recently revealing DLSS 3.5 and its ray-tracing-focused enhancements. After a great deal of anticipation, Nvidia has now announced that DLSS 3.5 will begin to roll out in just a few days, starting with Cyberpunk 2077.

DLSS 3.5 takes Nvidia’s bespoke rendering technology one step further by allowing games to utilise ray reconstruction, which for the uninitiated “replaces hand-tuned denoisers, which resolve sampled rays in a scene, with an NVIDIA supercomputer-trained AI network that generates higher-quality pixels in between sampled rays.”

It was already known that Cyberpunk 2077 was going to be one of the first games to support DLSS 3.5, but we now know exactly when it will come to the game, with Nvidia announcing that DLSS 3.5 will be made available from the 21st of September – just in time for the game’s massive 2.0 update and one week ahead of its Phantom Liberty expansion.

That is not all however, as Nvidia also revealed that a bunch more games are set to get DLSS support this week – albeit slightly older versions. The First Descendant; Warhaven and Witchfire will all include DLSS 3 at launch, while Party Animals and Lies of P are making do with DLSS 2.

All-in-all, there are now more than 340 games which support DLSS in one form or another. It will be interesting to see just how transformative DLSS 3.5 ends up being for the cyberpunk world of Night City.

We struggled to wrap our heads around the initial £480 price tag for the RTX 4060 Ti but price cuts are starting to appear. This week, a few different RTX 4060 Ti 16GB models are now selling below MSRP in the UK.

A quick look at Scan UK reveals three RTX 4060 Ti 16GB models currently selling under MSRP. The MSI Ventus version is currently down from £479.99 to £429.98, as is the Palit Jetstream version of the graphics card. Zotac's RTX 4060 Ti Twin Edge model is a little more expensive at £439.99, but still well below the original launch price.

Interestingly, these price cuts have arrived just ahead of AMD's RX 7800 XT launch, which looks to be bringing strong competition according to AMD's released benchmarks. Of course, we'll have to wait for reviews to verify exactly where the RX 7800 XT lands in the GPU hierarchy.

Unfortunately, the 8GB version of the RTX 4060 has not received a similar price cut, so right now, it doesn't make much sense as a purchase when the 16GB version can be found at these prices.

KitGuru Says: I expect we'll see more GPU price cuts towards the end of the year as there have been no major supply issues this generation to artificially drive prices up. Are you currently waiting to upgrade your PC?

Nvidia has been happily reporting on the growth of DLSS in recent months. The performance-saving feature can now be found in over 300 games and apps, and eight more will be joining the list this month.

Starfield unfortunately won't incorporate DLSS at launch and will instead use FSR 2. However, a number of new games shown at Gamescom this past week will be supporting DLSS, including Fort Solis, a different sci-fi game, set on Mars with our hero engineer, Jack Leary, responding to a distress beacon. Fort Solis will be getting DLSS 3, enabling up to 2.9X extra performance at 4K with max settings.

The other titles getting DLSS 2 or DLSS 3 in September can be seen below:

 • Delta Force: Hawk Ops will launch with DLSS 3
 • Warhaven launches Sept. 21st with DLSS 3
 • Project Mugen will launch with DLSS 3
 • F1 Manager 2023 is now available with DLSS 2
 • SPRAWL is now available with DLSS 2 and DLAA
 • Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle is now available with DLSS 2
 • Lunacy: Saint Rhodes is now available with DLSS 2

Interestingly, Nvidia also just recently announced the next upgrade for DLSS. DLSS 3.5 includes ray reconstruction for the first time, enabling sharper ray-traced effects while using upscaling techniques. DLSS 3.5 with ray reconstruction will be found in games like Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.

As a reminder, DLSS 3 with Frame Generation is only available on the latest RTX 40 graphics cards. If you have an RTX 30 series GPU or older, you can use DLSS 2.

Today coinciding with Gamescom, Nvidia is making a bunch of announcements. DLSS is getting another update, bringing it up to version 3.5 with the introduction of a new ray-tracing reconstruction feature. Beyond that, a new wave of games supporting DLSS 3 and other Nvidia features has also been announced.

Three more major titles are getting DLSS 3 support this year. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will indeed launch with support for DLSS 3 and Nvidia Reflex. Upcoming co-op heist game Payday 3 will be getting the same treatment. Soon. Fortnite will also be updated with DLSS 3 in place.

Nvidia's RTX Remix tool, which allows modders to bring ray-tracing to classic games, is also growing, with RTX Remix mods now available for over 80 titles. Nvidia is now working with modders to bring RTX to Half-Life 2 with full ray tracing, DLSS 3 and modernised assets. The preview screenshots are quite impressive but development has just begun, so it will be a while before the project is finished.

The big announcement here is DLSS 3.5. The new version introduces AI-powered ray reconstruction, which will enable better ray-tracing results while playing games with DLSS enabled. Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will be one of the very first games to support this new feature. In the comparison below, you can see the difference it makes, allowing more RT detail to be maintained with DLSS switched on.

A few months ago, it was also announced that Xbox Game Pass subscriptions would soon be supported by Nvidia's GeForce Now service. We'll finally get our first look at Game Pass on GFN later this week, with the first batch of games set to be streamable on the 24th of August.

Nvidia has been teaming up with Blizzard quite often for its latest RTX game bundles. Earlier this year, Nvidia was offering a Battle Pass and content bundle for Overwatch 2 with purchases of RTX GPUs. That bundle was eventually replaced with free copies of Diablo IV. Now, the Overwatch 2 bundle returns following the launch of the Invasion content update.

The Overwatch 2: Invasion update adds a selection of PvE story missions to the game. The update is a bittersweet one, as the small selection of story missions is a replacement for the game's previously planned campaign mode – which was a huge selling point for Overwatch 2 for many returning players.

If you are buying an RTX 4060 graphics card or up, or a laptop with an RTX 4060 GPU or up, then you'll also get the Overwatch 2: Invasion bundle from Nvidia, which includes a Premium Battle Pass for the current Overwatch 2 season and a couple of legendary skins.

The bundle is available as of today for all eligible purchases from participating retailers. For full details on how to claim the bundle and where to buy, check Nvidia's bundle page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Overwatch 2 has been getting critically panned this year, in part due to backlash over the cancellation of the game's full PvE campaign in favour of smaller missions released a couple of times a year. The bundle is great for those who are still fans of Overwatch and are planning to upgrade their hardware this year.

There is another batch of DLSS-supported games coming out in August and things are kicking off with a big one. Later this week, Baldur's Gate 3 will finally release out of Early Access and the PC version will include day-one support for both DLSS and DLAA.

Baldur's Gate 3 offers a pretty big visual upgrade over the Divinity Original Sin games – and those didn't look bad either. On PC to squeeze the most performance out of your RTX graphics card, you can switch on DLSS 2 for a frame rate boost. According to Nvidia, RTX 40 series graphics cards will see up to a 93 percent performance increase.

The highly anticipated fantasy RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 launches on August 3rd, ready to go with NVIDIA DLSS 2 and DLAA for a smooth gameplay experience alongside sharp image quality for gamers. There’s more exciting news this month, with four other great titles launching with NVIDIA DLSS support, for an action-packed August gamers can look forward to.

Baldur's Gate 3 will also be one of this week's brand new titles for GeForce Now, allowing gamers to enjoy it on almost any device with an internet connection and a screen. Those on the RTX 4080 membership will get to enjoy the game at 4K/120FPS as long as you have the network to handle it.

Other games arriving with DLSS support this month include:

 • DESORDRE: A Puzzle Game Adventure – DLSS 3
 • Lost Soul Aside – launching with DLSS 3
 • Grand Emprise: Time Travel Survival – available now with DLSS 2
 • Remnant II – available now with DLSS 3

There will be another update later this week from Nvidia focusing on new games heading to GeForce Now this month.

Amazon Prime Day is officially live until July 12th and there are plenty of PC deals to be found. Here, we take a look at the best laptop deals from MSI, with RTX 40 laptops starting at just £799.

Amazon has deals on its latest range of Intel 13th Generation powered laptops, as well as some of its older 12th Gen models. Prices have dropped considerably, so if you do end up picking one up, you'll be saving hundreds of pounds compared to buying usually. Here are some of the best deals.

The biggest saving can be found on the MSI Raider GE78HX, featuring a Core i9-13950HX and an RTX 4080. Typically, this model would sell for £3,599 but for Prime Day, it is £800 off, bringing the price down to £2,799. The MSI Stealth 17 Studio has a similarly high saving of £750, with the Core i7-13700H/RTX 4060 model coming down from £2,499 to £1,749.

If you are after an RTX 4060-equipped laptop, then the MSI Pulse 15 may be a better option. The Pulse 15 with a QHD display, RTX 4060 and Intel Core i7-13700H is down from £1,699 to £1,189, making it one of our favourite picks on the list.

At the under £1000 mark, we have two solid gaming options for you. The MSI Cyborg 15 with a Core i5-12450H and RTX 4060 can currently be found for just £949. Meanwhile, the MSI Katana 17 packs a Core i7-12650H and an RTX 2050 for £799.

Our final pick on the list is an entry-level laptop, not necessarily suited for AAA gaming, but will get you through a work day reliably. In this category, we have the MSI Modern 15 with a 12th Gen Core i5 and Iris Xe integrated graphics for £499.

This is just a selection of a few of the most interesting deals we could find, but there are plenty of others to be found, so be sure to check out all of MSI's Prime Day laptop deals, HERE.

Over the past few generations, Nvidia has kept up a 2-year cadence for new-generation GeForce RTX graphics cards. Unfortunately, if new reports are accurate, we'll be in for a long wait for the next architecture upgrade.

Nvidia launched its Ada Lovelace GPUs in 2022, starting with the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080, bringing improved RT and AI performance, enabling new features like DLSS 3 with Frame Generation. Today, the RTX 4060 officially launched, essentially filling out the line-up. While we would usually anticipate new GeForce graphics cards in 2024, HardwareLuxx claims we'll be waiting until 2025 for the true follow-up to the Lovelace architecture.

The report cites an Nvidia architecture roadmap, which shows a longer gap for the next generation of gaming GPUs from Nvidia. The roadmap claims that Nvidia will bring out ‘Hopper Next' for workstation GPUs in 2024. Meanwhile, we'll have to wait until 2025 for “Ada LoveLace-Next”.

That doesn't mean we won't see any new GeForce graphics cards from Nvidia in 2024. We may see refreshed GPUs with clock speed and VRAM upgrades. It is also worth noting that we have not been able to verify the authenticity of this roadmap, so take the information with a grain of salt.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: The roadmap does point to an ‘early 2025' launch for Ada Lovelace Next. The RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 both arrived in late 2022, so there's a good chance their new-gen replacements launch just a few months later than expected, rather than a full year. Of course, as we're working with unofficial information, we don't know how accurate these timelines are.

There are hundreds of games being developed today using Unreal Engine and with the rate DLSS has been growing, there's a good chance many of them will support Nvidia's upscaling tech. Nvidia is boosting those chances this week with the DLSS plugin for Unreal Engine 5.2.

Currently, over 300 games and apps support DLSS and the road is now paved for projects using Unreal Engine 5.2 to easily integrate the feature. DLSS plugins are also available for older versions of Unreal Engine 5, Unreal Engine 4 and Unity Engine.

Aside from this, Nvidia is also announcing a few games now supporting DLSS:

 • Land Of The Vikings (available now with DLSS 2)
 • Warhaven demo (available now through June 26th with DLSS 2)
 • Trepang2 (launching today with DLSS 2)
 • Need for Speed Unbound (Volume 3 available now with DLSS 3)
 • Forever Skies (launching June 22nd with DLSS 2)

DLSS 2 is supported on all RTX GPUs but DLSS 3 is reserved for RTX 40 series GPU owners. DLSS 3 includes AI frame generation, allowing you to boost performance even further.

Nvidia has been rapidly improving DLSS adoption since its launch in 2018. While the technology started off small, with support in just a handful of games with developer support from Nvidia. Nowadays, DLSS is available in plugin form for major engines like Unreal Engine and Unity. Adoption of the performance-saving tech has skyrocketed, now surpassing 300 supported games and apps.

This week, Diablo IV officially launches with DLSS support. RTX 40 GPU users can enjoy the full effects of DLSS 3 with Frame Generation to greatly enhance frame rates. Those on older RTX 30 series graphics cards will benefit from DLSS 2 instead.

Aside from Diablo IV, the upcoming PC release of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will also support Nvidia technologies, including DLSS 3, Ray Tracing, Nvidia Reflex and DLAA. DLSS 2 is also heading to Alone in the Dark Prologue and will be in the full game at launch. Recent titles like Wild Hearts and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty are also getting DLSS updates this summer to enhance performance.

Tower of Fantasy just recently received its DLSS 3 update too and with the upcoming Necrom expansion, The Elder Scrolls Online will also support DLSS 2, as well as DLAA for enhanced graphics.

This year, Cyberpunk 2077 went through another big upgrade, enabling DLSS 3 and a new RT Extreme mode, which enables full path-tracing lighting effects in the game. With the game's big expansion, Phantom Liberty, coming up, there could be another upgrade on the way, with new technology to improve path tracing performance.

CapFrameX recently put the idea forward that Cyberpunk 2077 could be the first game to support Nvidia's Neural Radiance Cache technology. Nvidia first unveiled this feature through a research paper back in 2021.

The new tech would switch away from pretraining for specific surfaces and instead switch to an adaptive model, designed to handle “fully dynamic scenes” while making “no assumptions about the lighting, geometry, and materials”. As a result, it ” sidesteps many difficulties of caching algorithms, such as locating, interpolating, and updating cache points”.

It is unclear exactly where this rumour came from, so it may be more of a prediction, as Nvidia has been working with CD Projekt Red to bring its cutting-edge tech to Cyberpunk 2077 and make it one of the most technically and visually impressive games available on PC.

CD Projekt Red will announce its release date and give us our first proper look at the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, Phantom Liberty, sometime this summer. No specific date has been announced yet but previously, CD Projekt has made big announcements as part of the Xbox Summer Showcase, so we may well get a new trailer during Xbox's show in June.

We'll have another opportunity to play Diablo 4 ahead of release during the upcoming ‘Server Slam' weekend, designed to stress test the game's servers ahead of launch. Interestingly, the Server Slam beta version of Diablo 4 will have a number of launch-day features, including DLSS 3 support.

Blizzard is inviting gamers to participate in the Diablo IV Server Slam to stress test their servers from May 12th to 14th. Gamers can earn special cosmetic rewards during this event, including a Beta Wolf Pack Cosmetic and a new Mount Trophy.

If that's not enough to motivate you to participate in the Server Slam, Blizzard is also adding DLSS 3 support, massively boosting framerates via frame generation. Unfortunately, the technology is only supported by RTX 40 series GPUs. However, if you are planning to get an RTX 40 series graphics card in the near future, you'll get a free copy of Diablo 4 with the GPU.

In addition to the latest Diablo title, three other games have received support for DLSS 2 through game updates. If you have Fobia – St. Dinfna Hotel, No One Survived, and Someday You'll Return: Director's Cut, you can now run them with DLSS 2 enabled. Adding these to the list, we now count over 290 games and apps supporting DLSS 2.

The previous GeForce RTX bundle saw Nvidia teaming up with Blizzard to offer a free Battle Pass for Overwatch 2. The latest bundle sees Nvidia teaming up with Blizzard again, this time with free codes for Diablo 4.

Diablo 4 was first announced back in 2019 and is finally set to release on the 6th of June, although Ultimate/Deluxe Edition pre-order customers will get access earlier, starting on the 2nd of June. You can play the game for free from the 12th to the 14th of May as part of Blizzard's Server Slam weekend, available across all platforms for a big networking stress test.

During the weekend, you'll be able to access some of the open world, take down one of the unique World Bosses and grind up to level 20.

A free code for Diablo 4 will be included with all GeForce RTX 4090, RTX 4080, RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4070 graphics cards for the next few weeks. The timing of the bundle is interesting, as the previous bundle was announced just ahead of the RTX 4070 launch. This latest bundle is announced right as rumours around the RTX 4060 Ti are beginning to heat up.

We don't have a launch date for Nvidia's next graphics card but Computex is just around the corner, so we should learn more soon.
