We have been hearing about Samsung's next phablet, the Galaxy Note 5 for a while now, with some rumors suggesting that it may launch much earlier than usual. However, Samsung has since stepped in to set the record straight, denying that the Note 5 is going to arrive significantly earlier than usual.

Rumors specifically pointed towards an end of July release date, which is much earlier than the normal Autumn release window that the Galaxy Note smartphones have traditionally stuck to. Apparently during a press meeting today, Samsung President, J.K Shin, touched on the rumors.

These rumors tend to be very common, particularly when it comes to popular devices- we see rumors suggesting that Apple might launch a new iPhone a couple of months early nearly every single year for example. However, it is rare for these manufacturers to stray from their traditional announcement dates.

Samsung will likely announce the Note 5 at its annual IFA event, which is due to take place early September this year.

HTC has apologized after teasing a new Half-Life game for the company's upcoming virtual reality headset, ‘The Vive', which was developed in collaboration with Valve. The drama all kicked off yesterday when HTC Chairwoman, Cher Wang, suggested that a new Half-Life game was on the way in an interview with the BBC.

During the interview, the HTC Chairwoman said “I think Valve's best game is Dota, right, and Portal and Team Fortress and I think they are very keen to have them on Vive”. She then went on to say “We are co-operating with Half-life, and I think… I hope, you know, it will be on it.”

As you can imagine, given the official announcements of the Source 2 engine and the constant Half-Life 3 rumors, this claim from HTC that it was actively helping with a new Half-Life game set the internet alight with speculation. Things got worse when it was discovered that a Valve employee had a talk on game physics scheduled at GDC for 3PM on the third of March (3/3 at 3), this turned out to be a coincidence and Valve did not mean to fuel any speculation.

Following the interview with HTC, the BBC received official comment from Valve explaining that no VR Half-Life game was in development and that the comments made by HTC were surprising.

After fueling the fire, HTC ended up apologizing for incorrectly teasing a new Half-Life game:

“I would like to apologize for any confusion caused when I referred to individual games titles”, Wang said. “In response to a question on specific games, I misspoke when I referred to our working together with Valve on a particular game, when instead I meant our collaboration with Valve on developing next-generation virtual reality experiences for gaming.”

“I am very excited about the work we are doing with Valve, and look forward to bringing our HTC Vive to market later this year.”

The Vive is Valve's own virtual reality headset built in collaboration with HTC. This marks HTC' first big venture in to the gaming market. The device will be commercially available later this year.

KitGuru Says: HTC caused quite a stir yesterday with its Half-Life tease. Unfortunately, none of the rumors have panned out so far. There is still no Half-Life 3 but Source 2 has been announced and should be on the way soon, surely Valve will have a game running on the engine to show off its capabilities closer to release?

This week we have new rumors pointing towards the future of Touch ID and Apple's Macbook line. According to evidence from Apple Supply Chain sources, Touch ID functionality could be coming to this year's round of Macbooks, extending the technology beyond the iPhones and iPads.

An unofficial Apple blog site based in Taiwan, called the AppleCorner, has looked at the evidence from Apple's Supply Chain sources and apparently we can expect Touch ID to debut on the Macbook Air 12, which will abandon some of the more traditional ports and pack in a retina display too.

This is a concept image and likely won't represent the final product.

The sensor will reportedly be placed above the glass trackpad. If you don't have any interest in a 12 inch Macbook Air then all hope is not lost as Touch ID will apparently also feature on new revisions of the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad, which can pair up with any of Apple's computers.

This is purely speculation and rumor but bringing bio-metric security to the Macbook lineup could be a good move for Apple.

KitGuru Says: While some people have their security and privacy concerns, I actually think Touch ID is fantastic and it has become a big convenience for me whenever I use my phone. I would be interested in having similar functionality on a laptop, personally. Do any of you guys use Touch ID? What do you think of it?

The Apple Watch has always had an ‘early 2015' release window and so far, Apple has been tight lipped on a proper release date. However, according to new reports, we can expect the Apple Watch to launch in March, with retail training expected to begin in February.

According to Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac, Apple is finalizing the Apple Watch software at the moment, making an effort to improve battery life and optimize performance. These are the company's current plans so the launch window may still slip if something goes wrong, or if Apple can't achieve the performance it is looking for.

That said, late March seems to be the sensible launch window, given that Apple originally wanted to get the watch out in early 2015. Aside from the Apple Watch, there are new rumors surrounding the 12 inch Macbook Air with a brand new design, which will reportedly abandon current standards, such as full sized USB and SD card slots.

These are all rumors so don't believe anything just yet, March isn't too far away though so we will probably know more about the Apple Watch launch soon.

We already know that work has begun on the next iPhone and iPad as Samsung has already started manufacturing the A9 chip but rumors surrounding other key specifications are popping up. According to reports straight from Taiwan, Apple is preparing to double the amount of RAM in next year's devices.

Apple never really gets too specific when it comes to smartphone specs but it looks like the iPhone 6s may be the first to feature 2GB of RAM while the iPad may feature as much as 4GB, which should help with multi-tasking duties. This comes at a time where Android devices often come with at least 3GB of RAM, while the new generation of 64-bit processors can make use of up to 4GB.

Of course, this memory boost will allow Apple to make better use of its 64-bit processor, improving overall performance, particularly in demanding applications. It has been a while since Apple has given its iPhones a RAM boost, the most recent 6 and 6 Plus only utilize 1GB while many Android devices use three times as much.

This is all still rumor and speculation, it will be a long time before we get any sort of official confirmation. However, more RAM won't be a bad idea for Apple.

KitGuru Says: iOS is highly optimized for Apple's hardware, which is one of the benefits of a closed ecosystem, as you can squeeze more out of the hardware. However, Apple will need to upgrade eventually, particularly if it wants to better take advantage of the 64-bit A9 SoC.

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Fallout 4 over the last few weeks, with rumors suggesting that we will see  a reveal and announcement at the annual VGX awards this year. However, Bethesda is now downplaying the rumors and claiming that it won't be showing anything at the awards show.

Fallout 4 was expected to follow in the footsteps of Skyrim, with a reveal at the VGX awards, followed by gameplay footage at E3 with the full game releasing in November next year. Unfortunately, according to Pete Hines, Bethesda won't be showing anything and will merely be there to support MachineGames, which released Wolfenstein: The New Order, earlier this year.

The latest Wolfenstein game has been nominated for a few awards, including best shooter and best narrative. Previous rumors have suggested that Fallout 4 will take place in Boston and the voice actor for Three Dog will return. However, we have no idea when an official announcement will be made.

The VGX awaeds take place on the 5th of December at 6PM Pacific time, 9PM Eastern and 2AM here in the UK.

KitGuru Says: This is certainly disappointing news. However, I do wonder why it has taken Bethesda so long to say something about this, considering that people started getting excited about a potential Fallout 4 announcement way back at the end of October. They certainly took their sweet time denying the rumors.

Recent rumors are all pointing towards a GTX 880 reveal before the end of the year but it could happen sooner than you think as Nvidia is apparently planning a press event for next month, at which the company will reveal its Maxwell architecture and new flagship graphics card.

However, despite the impending launch of this new architecture, we might not see a huge performance improvement over the current 700 series. According to Videocardz, the GTX 880 will launch with 4GB of video memory and a 256-bit interface, although we expect to see 8GB variants released later on.

nvidia-gtx-880-leak-what-to-expe

Current rumors also suggest that Nvidia might be launching its card at the sub- $500 price point, which would work out at around £360 here in the UK with tax included. Interestingly enough, the board design of the 880 apparently has more in common with the GTX 770, despite it replacing the 780.

This would make the GM204 graphics chip a replacement for the GK104 rather than the GK110, which means it may not be much faster than the high end Kepler GPU's currently on the market.

KitGuru Says: It looks like we can expect a new wave of graphics cards to hit later this year. While these rumors do suggest that we might not see a huge performance improvement, we do recommend that you wait for the reviews to come out before making any judgments. Maxwell does have incredibly low power consumption features as we have mentioned before in our GTX 750Ti reviews. Are any of you guys planning to upgrade to the 800 series? If so, what card are you upgrading from?
