Alan Wake 2 was a pretty demanding game at launch, but after spending some additional time optimising the game further, Remedy now has the game at a point where it can actually lower the game's PC system requirements.

The minimum PC system requirements for Alan Wake 2 have now been updated, recommending an RX 5600 XT or GeForce GTX 1070 to play the game at 1080p with low settings. The new optimisations are all present in the game's new 1.0.16.1 update, which is now available to all PC players. Currently, Alan Wake 2 is exclusive to the Epic Games Store.

Initially, Remedy had not recommending older GTX 10 series or RX 5000 series graphics cards due to the use of DirectX 12 Ultimate features like mesh shading, which aren't officially supported on those GPUs. However, it has since improved rendering without mesh shaders and as a result, those with older systems will now be able to play the game.

The game is still an intensive one to run, so do keep that in mind. Getting 60FPS on a GTX 10 series GPU will likely be a struggle.

New performance improvements will also impact newer GPUs. Digital Foundry has done some testing with the new patch already, benchmarking the older Pascal-era GPUs, as well as newer GPUs like the RTX 4070. In the case of the RTX 4070, they noted a 14 percent performance uplift.

AMD announced and launched its latest Raise the Game bundle earlier this year, offering RX 5000 GPU buyers a free copy of Godfall and/or World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. This offer was initially due to end soon, but AMD has extended it, offering free games to GPU buyers through to early December.

The AMD Radeon Graphics ‘Raise the Game' bundle has been extended through to the 5th of December 2020. Meanwhile, the redemption period for these game codes has also been extended to the 9th of January 2021.

As a reminder, AMD Radeon RX 5500 series GPU buyers get a complementary copy of Godfall, the next-gen looter slasher published by Gearbox for PC and PS5. If you are buying an RX 5700 or RX 5600 series GPU, you will get both Godfall and World of Warcraft: Shadowlands.

There are terms and conditions, so be sure to check AMD's Raise the Game page to make sure you are buying a qualifying GPU from a participating retailer in order to receive your extra goodies. Perhaps this bundle will also extend to the new GPUs we are expecting to see from Radeon on October 28th.

KitGuru Says: Are many of you planning on picking up a Radeon GPU soon?

While the ASUS ROG Strix GPU cooler is usually praised, it would seem that the version found on RX 5700-series graphics cards has been having some issues keeping temperatures in check. Asus has responded to those concerns this week, pinning the issue on AMD's own guidelines for cooler mounting and offering customers a fix.

According to Asus, AMD's recommendation for the PSI range (pressure between cooler and GPU) was off, causing higher than expected temperatures. After receiving reports from customers, Asus performed “extended R&D testing to find the optimal PSI range” for ROG Strix RX 5700 graphics cards. You can see the adjustment in the graph below, with AMD's recommendation reportedly sitting in the 30-40 PSI range, while the Strix cooler needs to be closer to 50-60 PSI for improved heat transfer from the GPU to the heatsink.

As of January 2020, all ROG Strix Radeon RX 5700-series graphics cards ship with new screws in place to increase mounting pressure between the cooler and GPU. However, those that already own an ROG Strix RX 5700 GPU contact ASUS customer service to get the upgrade performed for free starting in March 2020. You can determine if your model is eligible, HERE.

We contacted AMD to see if they had any response to to this story but the company has no comment at this time. We will update this story if that changes.

KitGuru Says: Currently, ASUS seems to be the only custom-cooled GPU manufacturer to face this issue. We'll keep an eye out in case others have faced similar issues but for now, it doesn't seem to be impacting the competition.

Earlier this week, Nvidia began rolling out a new GeForce driver with optimisations for this weekend's big game releases- The Outer Worlds and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Now, those equipped with a Radeon GPU also have a day-one driver available to install, which should grant some notable performance boosts.

Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.10.2 is now available. RX 5700 XT owners in particular will benefit from this one, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare getting an 18% performance boost compared to driver version 19.10.1 while running at ultra settings. For The Outer Worlds, RX 5700 XT owners can expect an 8% performance gain with the new driver compared to the previous one.

This driver also has optimisations in place for Chernobylite, an early access single-player game with sci-fi and survival horror themes.

As usual, the driver release notes come with a list of fixed issues. Those experiencing a blank screen bug when launching League of Legends should no longer have this problem. Radeon Chill no longer creates an incorrect registry entry when enabled or disabled, Borderlands 3 should also no longer freeze up when changing resolutions or after running the in-game benchmark.

Flicker while watching media files through the Windows Movies & TV application on a USB Type-C display should be fixed. Finally, Radeon RX Vega and RX 5700 series GPUs should no longer experience a thread stuck crash or TDR during high GPU load.

Some issues do remain though, including character models not always rendering correctly in the inventory screen on The Outer Worlds. RX 5700 GPU users may experience stutter while playing a game at 1080p with low settings. AMD's performance metrics overlay can cause stutter or screen flashes when used in some applications and toggling HDR can cause system instability while playing a game with ReLive enabled. The final two known issues include stutter on FreeSync displays while running at 240Hz with a Radeon RX 5700 series GPU and the AMD Radeon VII will sometimes have elevated memory clock speeds while the PC is idle. Hopefully most of these will be tackled in the next driver update.

If you are using an AMD Radeon graphics card, then you can find the new 19.10.2 driver for download, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Two huge games landed today. I'll be diving into The Outer Worlds myself but I am interested in checking out the Modern Warfare campaign at some point. Are any of you picking up one of the new releases this weekend? Have you experienced any issues with the latest driver update so far?

The post ASUS RX 5700 TUF Gaming X3 OC Edition Review first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Since AMD launched its new Navi graphics cards back in July, a lot of focus has been given to the RX 5700 XT, with the baby brother RX 5700 receiving less attention. We are trying to change that today, however, with a look at ASUS' TUF Gaming X3 RX 5700 card. Featuring a smart black shroud, triple-fan cooler and factory overclocked core, is this the card to go for under £400?

As part of the ASUS TUF Gaming series, the company has made a few claims regarding the ‘tuf' nature of this new RX 5700. These include an 144-hour validation program, Auto-Extreme Technology which ‘uses automation to enhance reliability', and even ‘space-grade lubricant‘ for the dual ball bearing fans.

Pricing is also something to be aware of, with this card coming in at £379.99. That's £50 above the reference MSRP for RX 5700, putting close to RX 5700 XT territory.

ASUS has also pushed the clock speed of the RX 5700 a little further, with a rated ‘game clock' of 1720MHz, which is 95MHz faster than the reference card. There is the option to download ASUS GPU Tweak II and enable an ‘OC mode', but this only adds an extra 5MHz to the game clock and is an extra step required from the end-user.

Elsewhere, core spec of the RX 5700 means we have 36 Compute Units (CUs), with each CU housing 64 Stream Processors for a total of 2304. There's also 8GB of GDDR6 memory, clocked at 14Gbps, operating across a 256-bit bus, for 448GB/s total memory bandwidth.

A few days ago, we had the chance to cover the launch of custom AIB versions of the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT. We reviewed the Sapphire Pulse at launch and have known about the ASUS line up for a couple of weeks now. Today, Power Colour is arriving to the party, with several RX 5700 models in tow, including the Red Devil special edition.

Power Colour is launching two versions of the RX 5700 series, the first is the well-known Red Devil variant, while the second is known as Red Dragon. The limited edition RX 5700 XT Red Devil has three 90mm fans spread across a 300mm long cooler with a thick backplate for extra protection. This custom GPU uses a 12-layer PCB design with 10 VRMs and high-polymer caps, setting it up to be one of the ultimate RX 5700 XT custom cards for overclocking.

As usual, the Red Devil series offers a Dual BIOS function. At stock settings, the RX 5700 XT Red Devil is clocked at 1905MHz and boosts up to 2010MHz, while the standard RX 5700 Red Devil is clocked at 1725MHz with a boost up to 1750MHz.

The Power Colour Red Dragon cards use a dual-fan cooler instead, with two 100mm fans, five heat pipes and the same dual-BIOS capabilities as the Red Devil card. One of the key differences here are the out-of-box clock speeds, which come in at 1795MHz with a boost up to 1905MHz for the 5700 XT Red Dragon, and 1720MHz with a boost up to 1750MHz on the standard RX 5700 Red Dragon.

Currently, the Power Colour RX 5700 XT Red Devil is set to cost $439/£449 while the RX 5700 Red Devil will be $389. A limited edition version of the Red Devil RX 5700 XT will be available for $10 more and includes RGB, premium packaging and bundles an RGB mouse pad.

Next week, the Power Colour Red Dragon cards will be made available, although we only have USD pricing for now. The XT will be $409 and the standard RX 5700 will be $359.

KitGuru Says: We have some solid looking cards from Power Colour on the way. We will be reviewing these soon, so keep an eye out.

It took quite some time for 4K Netflix streaming to arrive on PC, in large part due to piracy protection and DRM concerns. However, we have now reached a point where most modern GPUs, Ultra HD monitors and Windows 10 all have the required tools in place to allow for UHD streaming. Now, thanks to a new driver update, AMD’s latest RX 5700 series of graphics cards have also joined the club.

The new Radeon Software Adrenaline Edition version 19.8.1 update introduces PlayReady 3.0 support for the RX 5700 series. For those who don’t know, PlayReady is Microsoft’s own form of DRM on Windows, which is backed by streaming services like Netflix and is required for Ultra HD viewing on Windows 10. Of course, either a Microsoft browser, or the Windows 10 Netflix app is also required.

While UHD streaming support is the headlining feature for this latest AMD driver update, there are also a few bug fixes packed in. Radeon Chill settings will now sync properly with game profile settings when changed via the Radeon overlay. Black screen or flickering issues when overclocking memory with games running should also be solved.

Radeon AntiLag has had some improvements to avoid impacting frame rates in certain games. There are a few other bug fixes mixed in too, in addition to some known issues that still require attention, including stutter in some cases on FreeSync 240Hz monitors.

KitGuru Says: It was surprising to see just how long it took for 4K Netflix streaming to be supported on PCs, especially since PC enthusiasts were amongst the first to adopt 4K displays. Still, it looks like all the issues have been worked out now and there is no major current GPU lacking support. Do many of you stream UHD Netflix on your PC?

What does Andy think?

The post Fierce PC Shuriken System Review – Ryzen 5 3600 & RX 5700 first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Today we’re looking at a pre-built system from Fierce PC. Using some of the latest hardware from AMD, this PC is named the Shuriken “so the user can use the power of this PC to slice ‘n’ dice any obstacle in their path!”. This system features an 6-core Ryzen 5 3600 with a 4.2GHz overclock, a Radeon RX 5700 graphics card, 16GB high speed DDR4 memory and a 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD for storage. With an asking price of £1499.95, is the Shuriken worth purchasing?

The first thing we need to address, before diving into the rest of the review, is pricing. We were initially told by Fierce PC that the Shuriken will cost £1799.95, and we filmed the video based on that information. Before going live with our written article, however, we were informed that this price was incorrect, and the Shuriken was always meant to retail for £1499.95. The video review is entirely accurate in terms of its overview of the system and with its performance results, but the conclusion will vary to this written article due to updated pricing information.

Let’s address packaging first. Often with pre-built systems I find it is easy to overlook how your new purchase will arrive and whether you can be safe in knowing that it will arrive in once piece. I have to say Fierce PC ensured the system was very secure in transit. The system was found inside the case box, which was then placed inside another very large box and filled to the brim with bubble wrap and other materials.

There was no wiggle room whatsoever and I was pleasantly surprised at how secure it seemed. Within the case itself we found the typical foam padding to minimise the components wiggling loose during transit, and upon first inspection everything was still connected. Well done Fierce PC!

The first thing you'll notice about the Shuriken is the sheer size of this system, with dimensions of 251 x 545 x 552 mm (WxDxH). The ASUS GT501 case is certainly not hard to miss with its ATX mid-tower form factor, so make sure you have enough space to display this system as it’s certainly eye-catching. Briony actually reviewed this case earlier in the year and rated it at 9/10.

Supporting two rugged TUF handles on the top, and a large glass side panel, I surprisingly found the handles incredibly useful, despite thinking they were fairly gimmicky at first, and as the system is fairly heavy I was grateful for them. The biggest downside of using a case of this size is that there is a huge empty space between the intake fans and the motherboard. Fierce PC could have utilised this space with a branded ‘Shuriken’ logo mounted here with RGB behind it, or something similar to better utilise this section of the case.

As standard, the case comes with three 120mm ASUS AURA RGB 1200RPM fans as front intake and one rear, non-RGB, 140mm exhaust. Fierce PC have removed this 140mm exhaust and replaced it with a Cooler Master MasterFan Pro 140mm RGB fan instead, and this is certainly a welcome addition as it really does increase the wow factor and aesthetics of the system overall due to the added RGB lighting.

Whilst we’re on the subject of RGB, the Shuriken uses an ASUS X570-F Gaming motherboard with RGB accents, populated by 16GB (2x 8GB sticks) of 3200MHz DDR4 ADATA XPG Spectrix memory. Not only is this a great choice as we know Ryzen systems perform best with faster RAM, but they are fully RGB sticks and are quite something to see in action.

The CPU cooler of choice is the ASUS ROG Ryuo 240mm AIO liquid cooler and while the two radiator fans are not RGB, the pump face has a programmable OLED screen with a mirror finish. Fierce PC have programmed their logo to display on said screen and this does add to the overall theme, but do note that this is changeable if you so desire.

All of the RGB components are directly plugged into the RGB headers on the X570-F motherboard and can be controlled via the ASUS AURA RGB software that comes pre-installed on the Shuriken. Fierce PC have programmed all of the RGB components to display their signature black and orange colour scheme. As mentioned, with such a huge case I kept thinking they could have added one or two RGB strips along the top of the case, or by the recessed area in front of the PSU shroud to really make things stand out.

While the Corsair RM750 80+ Gold fully modular power supply is great to see included here, we’d expect nothing less than an 80+ Gold unit at this price point, I couldn’t help but wish they’d included orange cable extensions to really make the theme of the build pop. The standard cables that come with the PSU are black sleeved, so none of the ‘ketchup & mustard’ red and yellow cables that let aesthetics down, but they’re still not as tidy as some nice extensions.

Being an X570 motherboard you can of course overclock a CPU with this board, but Fierce PC have already overclocked the Ryzen 5 3600 CPU from its base clock of 3.6GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) to 4.2GHz across all 6 cores. After prolonged testing I can safely say this is a very stable overclock and I had no issues with it.

Lastly, Fierce PC has opted for the AMD Radeon RX 5700 8GB reference graphics card, that also includes 3 months of Xbox Game Pass. This is obviously one of the latest cards from AMD, and as Dominic mentioned in his review it is a great mid-range card. As a reference card, this model has no backplate and is restricted to the blower-style single fan cooling system. Fierce PC have assured us that once non-reference cards are available these will be swapped in as standard.

AMD's Navi launch went down very well in early June, with the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT garnering high praise. While the reference blower-style cooler is serviceable, it usually doesn't take long for better custom-cooled versions to hit the market. Today, the first custom RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT GPUs will be landing on store shelves.

The wave of custom RX 5700s kicks off with the Sapphire Pulse, trading in the blower fan for a much better dual-fan cooler. We've already reviewed the Sapphire RX 5700 Pulse ourselves, praising it for its cooling, clock speed increase and quiet operation. You can find our full video and written review of the card, HERE.

Currently, the Sapphire Pulse RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT are available through Overclockers UK for £364.99 or £424.99 respectively with stock already prepped to ship out. Of course, the Sapphire Pulse is just the beginning, with more custom AIB partner cards set to roll out in the coming weeks.

So far, we know that ASUS will have a Dual EVO, a TUF Gaming and ROG Strix cooled versions. Meanwhile, Power Colour will be releasing a Red Devil version of the RX 5700 XT within the next week. XFX has the THICC 2 version planned for launch soon and we will likely see variants from MSI and Gigabyte in the not too distant future too. If you've been waiting for custom-cooled RX 5700s, then August will be the month to start shopping around.

KitGuru Says: It is great to see custom-cooled versions of the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT finally hit the market. Are any of you currently thinking about upgrading to one of these?

It looks like custom editions of AMD’s RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT GPUs are due to drop any day now. So far, we’ve had pre-orders and retail listings open up for custom-cooled versions from Sapphire and ASUS ROG. Leaks have also shown off what XFX has planned and Power Colour has confirmed launch plans for a Red Devil version of the RX 5700 XT.

Over at Overclockers UK, you can currently pre-order the Sapphire Pulse version of the RX 5700 or RX 5700 XT for £368.99 or £428.99 respectively. Currently, there are also listings for three custom ASUS RX 5700 XT graphics cards, they can't be pre-ordered yet, but the Dual EVO will be £428.99, the TUF Gaming X3 will be £458.99 and the ROG STRIX version will be £529.99.

As for other board partners, we currently don’t have news on custom cards from MSI or Gigabyte, but we do know that XFX is launching an RX 5700 with an updated version of the Double Dissipation dual-fan cooler.

As leaked by Videocardz, this new XFX GPU will be known as ‘THICC 2’, although we don’t have word on a price or release date yet. Finally, Power Colour is also planning to launch a Red Devil version of the RX 5700 XT, initially, this was due to release on the 13th of August but a small delay has occurred in the supply chain, so the Power Colour Red Devil version will now begin shipping on the 15th of August, although that date might be limited to just a few countries/retailers.

Currently, we are expecting the Sapphire and ASUS GPUs to release before the end of this month too.

KitGuru Says: The RX 5700 series has been off to a good start with reference boards but quite a few will have been waiting for custom-cooled versions. Are any of you planning on picking up an RX 5700 this year once AIB cards start to ship?

The post More powerful AMD Navi GPUs said to be ‘on track’ first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
It has almost been one month since the launch of AMD's first Navi GPUs but it looks like there is more to come in the future. During an investor Q&A, AMD CEO, Lisa Su, seems to have confirmed that ‘high-end' Navi GPUs will be coming down the line.

The RX 5700 series is already quite competitive against the RTX 2070 and RTX 2060 graphics cards from NVIDIA. When asked about 7nm high-end NAVI and mobile 7nm CPUs, Lisa Su said to “expect that our execution on those are on track and we have a rich 7nm portfolio beyond the products that we have already announced”. With that in mind, it looks like the Radeon team is indeed working on a more powerful version of Navi.

As always though, timing will be hugely important, particularly if AMD is targeting RTX 2080 or RTX 2080Ti performance. Nvidia's two high-end Turing GPUs have almost been on the market for a full year, so Nvidia will also have next-gen chips in the works at this point.

So for now, we will just have to wait and see, but it seems that an RX 5800 series or RX 5900 series of GPUs is likely.

KitGuru Says: Are many of you currently shopping around for a GPU upgrade? Will you be jumping on Navi, or will you be waiting for more powerful cards to come?

EKWB has always had an impressive line-up of liquid cooling gear but this month has been particularly big, with a bunch of new block designs hitting the market. Not only are there now GPU blocks for the Radeon RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT, but there is a new monoblock for the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master board and another GPU waterblock for Nvidia's GV100-based cards.

We will start off with the new EK-Vector, which supports the Radeon RX 5700 and the RX 5700 XT. AMD's new Navi GPUs are now available and now liquid cooling enthusiasts have a suitable block. According to EKWB, you can get 10 to 20 percent better speeds through overclocking on water, the blocks themselves are also RGB and suitable backplates are available, so it will all look sleek too. There are two versions, Nickel + Plexi for €129.90 or Nickel + Acetal for €124.90. The black backplate will cost an extra €26.90 while the Nickel plated version will cost €33.90.

The EK-FC GV100 Pro waterblock is geared more towards the professional market and will fit on Quadro and Tesla GPUs in addition to the TITAN V. The waterblock extends across the full length of a GV100-based graphics card, ensuring that all critical components are sufficiently cooled. This block is designed with an Open Split-Flow cooling design, utilising low hydraulic flow restriction, meaning the block is suitable in systems with weaker pumps, or with a pump set to low speed.

Watercooling a GV100 is going to be more expensive than a consumer-oriented GPU though. The EK-FC GV100 Pro Nickel + Inox block will cost €249.90 and the backplate will cost €47.90.

The final block on the list is the EK-Momentum for the Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Master motherboard. We've seen similar monoblocks designed for high-end ASUS ROG boards in the past and now there is one for the Aorus Master and Ultra Z390 motherboards. The block uses addressable RGB LEDs for an extra touch of customisation, which syncs with Gigabyte's RGB Fusion software.

The monoblock delivers liquid cooling to the CPU and motherboard, with liquid flowing over the CPU and MOSFET module, which should help even further with overclocking. The monoblock also comes with a special cold plate that makes better contact with the IHS of 8th Gen and 9th Gen Intel 1151 processors. Price-wise, this one will be hitting the market at €139.90.

KitGuru Says: There has been a lot of new liquid cooling gear launched this month, which seems fitting in the middle of this UK heatwave. Are any of you currently planning a custom water-cooling loop for your PC?

AMD's RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT graphics cards are now officially out in the wild. We have reviewed both and were impressed by what was on offer with AMD's reference design but custom versions from board partners are on the way, although they will take a while to land at retail.

So far, all of the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT models available are using the reference blower-fan cooler, which does an okay job but many will be waiting for beefier cooling solutions to arrive. According to our sources, we will start to see the first custom GPUs in August, alongside a new driver with improved overclocking tools.

Beyond that, ASUS has confirmed itself that while its Navi GPUs on the market right now are bound to AMD's reference cooler, the company is already tweaking and gearing up to release new Radeon GPUs with custom cooler designs. We should get more details on those in September.

When it came to RX Vega 56 and RX Vega 64, there was a limited number of custom versions made available and it took a long time to bring these to market. There will be a pretty big gap between RX 5700 and the first custom cards too, but it sounds like there is going to be much more support for Navi compared to Vega.

KitGuru Says: We'll be keeping an eye out over the coming weeks for more information on custom RX 5700 GPUs. So far, it looks like we can expect to see the first ones arrive in August, with extra versions coming in September and beyond. Are any of you currently waiting on custom versions of the RX 5700 before upgrading?

Last week was a huge one in the tech world as not only did we get two new GPUs launching from Nvidia, but AMD's long-awaited Navi GPU and Zen 2 CPU launches both arrived. Reviews for the Radeon RX 5700 series and the Ryzen 9 3900X and Ryzen 7 3700X are available and now we know how UK pricing is looking for those wanting to upgrade.

The folks at Overclockers UK have set up an AMD Ryzen 3rd Gen upgrade page, with all of the CPUs listed, in addition to recommended X570 motherboards, GPUs, RAM kits and a few other bits.

If you would rather get a slightly older CPU on the cheap, then 2nd Gen Ryzen processors are all on sale. If you are looking for 3rd gen though, then the pricing breaks down like this:

X570 motherboard pricing is definitely higher than what we've seen in the past but there are some good options available. The ASUS Prime X570 is currently £196, while the ROG Strix X570-F Gaming is £277.99. The ASRock X570 Taichi board is £338.99, the Gigabyte AORUS Pro X570 is £265.99, or you can find the Gigabyte X570 Gaming X for £182.99. The MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge is £220.99, while the MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon is £259.99.

Right now, the cheapest RX 5700 XT available is the PowerColor reference GPU priced at £379.99. The standard RX 5700 can be found for £329.99. We are still waiting to see custom-cooled variants for the time being but we will hopefully get some news on those soon.

KitGuru Says: It has been a huge week for PC enthusiasts. Are any of you looking to upgrade to anything in particular?

The post AMD Radeon RX 5700 8GB Review first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
July 7 marks a busy day for AMD, as it releases not only its new 7nm Ryzen 3000 processors, but two new 7nm graphics cards as well – the Radeon RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT. Built on the new RDNA architecture, these cards are AMD's attempt to win back the mid-range market segment after its Radeon VII GPU wasn't able to topple Nvidia's RTX 2080 in the high-end earlier this year.

In this review we are focusing on the $349 RX 5700, but we also have a full review of the RX 5700 XT over here if you are interested. Going head to head with Nvidia's RTX 2060, can the RX 5700 come out on top?

When AMD gave us our first good look at the new cards back at E3, the Radeon RX 5700 was compared to Nvidia's RTX 2060 and its performance looked compelling. As a preemptive strike, however, Nvidia recently launched its new RTX 2060 SUPER and RTX 2070 SUPER graphics cards, which both offer decent performance increases over the original models.

Adding a further twist to proceedings, AMD announced on Friday that it has actually dropped pricing of both its new cards ahead of launch. The RX 5700 is now priced at $349, and the 5700 XT costs at $399, throwing a real spanner in the works as the 5700 is now competing against the 2060, not the 2060 SUPER as Nvidia had anticipated.

Built on AMD's new RDNA architecture, the RX 5700 is the lesser of the two new Navi GPUs hitting the market. It sports 36 Compute Units (CUs), the design of which has been completely reworked for Navi, which is 4 less than its bigger brother, the RX 5700 XT. Each CU is home to 64 stream processors, therefore the RX 5700 has 2304 of those.

The Navi GPU is fabricated on TSMC's 7nm process, which not only means a physically smaller die size for both new cards – 251mm², versus 486mm² for Vega 56, for instance – but higher clock speeds as well. Base clock for the RX 5700 is rated at 1465MHz, with a boost of up to 1725MHz. Interestingly, AMD is also touting a new ‘game clock', the frequency which you can expect to see the card hit while gaming. For the RX 5700, its game clock is 1625MHz.

On top of these developments, Navi also marks AMD's shift away from High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), for its mid-range cards at least. Both RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT sport the latest GDDR6 memory, running at the same 14Gbps that we have become used to with Nvidia's RTX series of cards. Over a 256-bit bus, this provides 448 GB/s of memory bandwidth.

Lastly, total board power for the RX 5700 is rated at 185W. This is 10W than the rated Total Graphics Power (TGP) of the RTX 2060 SUPER.

The post AMD launches RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 GPUs with RDNA architecture first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Tonight during AMD’s Next Horizon event at E3, the company officially unveiled its first two graphics cards powered by the RDNA architecture. Previously teased at Computex last month, the RX 5700 and RX 5700XT are launching in July alongside 3rd Gen Ryzen processors.

Both the RX 5700 and the XT variant are built on the 7nm process. Navi is the GPU codename, while RDNA is the brand new architecture that will take over from GCN. With this new architecture, AMD can achieve higher performance per watt and deliver 25 percent more performance per Compute Unit at the same clock speeds. Scalability is another major factor with RDNA, providing enough room to scale all the way down for mobile and back up for gaming and data centres.

On the higher-end Radeon RX 5700 XT, you will be getting 40 Compute Units, 2560 Stream Processors, 8GB of GDDR6 memory a 1605MHz base clock and a 1905MHz boost clock all delivering 9.75 TFLOPS of performance. The XT has a TDP of 225W.

The RX 5700 on the other hand features 36 Compute Units, 2304 Stream Processors, 8GB of GDDR6 memory and a lower 1465MHz/1725MHz base/boost clock for 7.95 TFLOPS of performance. While the clock speeds and GPU have been cut down on the RX 5700, it also saves quite a bit of power, running with a 175W TDP.

The Radeon RX 5700 XT will be launching with a $449 MSRP, while the RX 5700 will be $379. We don’t have exact UK pricing numbers yet but we expect to hear more on that soon. We attended AMD’s media tech day this weekend, so we will be able to share more technical details on RDNA and the RX 5700 series soon.

KitGuru Says: These two graphics cards will be with us in just under one month’s time. July is shaping up to be huge for AMD, with an all new GPU architecture and Zen 2 CPUs all rolling out at once. Are any of you planning on upgrading?

AMD has already had two major announcements for us today in the form of 3rd Gen Ryzen and the x570 chipset. However, Team Red isn't done just yet, as AMD has also announced the upcoming RX 5700-series of graphics cards, based on the new RDNA architecture to deliver up to 1.5x higher performance-per-watt over GCN.

AMD has been using the GCN architecture for years now, so RDNA is seen as the foundation of next-gen graphics from AMD. It will start off with the RX 5700-series, which will feature GDDR6 memory and a PCIe 4.0 interface, setting it up as a perfect pairing for new x570 motherboards and 3rd Gen Ryzen. In terms of performance per clock, we can expect up to a 1.25x improvement and up to a 1.5x improvement on performance per watt.

In a quick demonstration on what the RX 5700-series can do, AMD CEO, Dr. Lisa Su, presented one of the GPUs running a gameplay demo of Strange Brigade. During this demo, the unnamed RX-5700 series graphics card delivered higher performance than an RTX 2070. Of course, that is just one game, so we'll be looking forward to seeing a broader set of benchmarks in the future for a better comparison.

Right now, that is all of the information we have but AMD did reveal that the RX 5700-series will be properly revealed at its E3 event in June, with availability expected in July.

KitGuru Says: It has been a busy day for AMD with new CPUs, a new motherboard chipset and now, new GPUs to add on top of that. AMD's ‘Next Horizon' gaming event will kick off on the 10th of June, so we should have much more information to share then.
