The post Sapphire RX 6600 XT Pulse Review first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Following on from our first RX 6600 XT review yesterday, today we are back with a look at the Sapphire RX 6600 XT Pulse. Having reviewed plenty of Sapphire's Nitro+ cards this generation, this is our first look at a Pulse model since the launch of the RX 5600 XT. With just a $20 price premium over AMD's baseline MSRP, what does the Pulse have to offer potential customers?

The Sapphire Pulse series has garnered a lot of praise over the years, with the cards designed to offer a ‘no frills' experience, for those who just want solid build quality, strong cooling performance and a capable VRM. If you like a few extra features, such as on-board ARGB headers, dual-BIOS and quick connect fans – Sapphire will point you towards its more expensive Nitro+ series.

With the RX 6600 XT Pulse, Sapphire is offering a factory-overclocked core, an emphasis on low noise levels and a clean design aesthetic. Let's see if they have got it right.

As a spec recap, RX 6700 XT is built using the new Navi 23 GPU, a physically small die, measuring just 237 mm². It houses 32 Compute Units (CUs), with 64 stream processors per CU, giving a total of 2048. RX 6600 XT features a fully populated Navi 23 GPU, but we can expect a cut-down version to appear with the rumoured RX 6600.

RDNA 2 houses one ray accelerator per CU, so there’s a total of 32 with the RX 6600 XT. Four texture units per CU gives a total of 128, while there’s also 64 ROPs. Clock speed remains at the lofty heights that we saw from the RX 6700 XT, as the 6600 XT's rated game clock of 2589MHz is 8MHz above that of the RX 6700 XT. Sapphire has added a factory overclock, but the boost clock is only 2593MHz, so it's not much of an increase over reference spec.

As for the memory configuration, AMD has opted to use a 128-bit memory interface paired with 8GB of GDDR6 memory. Using 16Gbps modules, total memory bandwidth hits 256 GB/s, lower than even the last-generation RX 5600 XT . RDNA 2 GPUs, however, have the benefit of AMD’s Infinity Cache, but even that is reduced, with just a 32MB cache used here.

Lastly, total board power (TBP) is rated at 160W, a reduction of 70W, or almost 30%, compared to the RX 6700 XT.

The post AMD RX 6600 XT Review ft. Gigabyte Gaming OC Pro first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Today marks AMD's first GPU launch for five months, with the company unleashing its new RX 6600 XT. Designed to offer the ultimate 1080p gaming experience, AMD claims the RX 6600 XT has the beating of Nvidia's RTX 3060, and accordingly has set pricing higher at $379 MSRP. We put this card through its paces and compare it to a wide range of both current and former-generation GPUs.

The first three RDNA 2-based GPUs – the RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT and RX 6800 – all used Navi 21 silicon, while the RX 6700 XT made use of Navi 22. Now, with the new RX 6600 XT, AMD has introduced Navi 23, its smallest RDNA 2-based GPU yet, measuring just 237 mm². While this reduces the number of Compute Units, stream processors, ray accelerators and so on, it's also interesting to see AMD opt for a 128-bit memory interface.

That allows the company to comfortably pair the GPU with 8GB of memory – avoiding the situation as seen with the RTX 3060, where Nvidia's mid-range GPU has more VRAM than even the RTX 3080. It is, however, a relatively narrow bus for a GPU of this price class, and while AMD has its Infinity Cache to fall back on, there's only 32MB of it here, compared to 96MB on the RX 6700 XT.

That may be why AMD chose to focus the 6600 XT solely on 1080p gaming, a resolution where the GPU is less likely to be constrained by memory bandwidth than at 1440p. We will, however, be testing this GPU across 1080p, 1440p and even 4K resolutions throughout this review.

It is also worth making clear that the RX 6600 XT is an ‘AIB-only' launch, meaning there's no AMD reference card. For this review, AMD sampled us directly with a Gigabyte RX 6600 XT Gaming OC Pro 8G, Gigabyte's flagship 6600 XT offering.

In the early hours of this morning, AMD officially announced the Radeon RX 6600 XT graphics card and just as promised, a number of board partners have custom-cooled solutions ready to go. So far, we've had RX 6600 XT custom graphics card announcements from Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Sapphire and PowerColor.

ASUS:

Starting off with ASUS, there are two RX 6600 XT graphics cards on the way – an ROG Strix model and an entry-level ASUS Dual model. Both ship with dual-fan coolers, but the ROG Strix version appears to sport a different heatsink with more heatpipes for improved thermal performance.

As you would expect, the cooler on both cards uses ASUS's Axial-Tech fans to direct air through the large surface area heatsink, and the fans can turn off while the GPU is idling.

Unfortunately at this time, pricing and clock speeds have not been announced.

MSI:

MSI also has two RX 6600 XT series graphics cards to show off, the Gaming model and the MECH 2X model. Both of these have two variants that hit different clock speeds, but everything else about the design and cooler remains the same.

The MSI RX 6600 XT Gaming features the latest version of the Twin Frozr cooler, with improved TORX 4.0 fans, precision-machined heatpipes throughout the heatsink and a metal backplate for some additional passive cooling on the back of the card. Meanwhile, the MSI RX 6600 XT Mech graphics card uses a less advanced dual-fan cooler, with TORX 3.0 fans.

Unfortunately at this time, pricing and clock speeds have not been announced.

GIGABYTE:

We actually had a sneak preview of Gigabyte's RX 6600 XT graphics cards yesterday, ahead of AMD's official announcement. Gigabyte has two models to launch, an RX 6600 XT Gaming Pro and an RX 6600 XT Eagle. Unlike ASUS and MSI, Gigabyte has opted for a triple-fan cooler design for its custom RX 6600 XT graphics cards.

The Gigabyte RX 6600 XT Gaming and Eagle graphics cards feature the tried and tested Windforce 3X cooler, with unique blade fans, alternate spinning, direct-contact heat pipes, screen cooling and other features. Not only is this cooler highly refined for optimised airflow, but Gigabyte has also paid attention to durability, using graphene nano lubricant in the fans to extend fan life by up to 2.1x.

Unfortunately at this time, pricing and clock speeds have not been announced.

SAPPHIRE:

Sapphire has its usual two custom cooler solutions prepared for the RX 6600 XT. The premium model is the Nitro+, sporting a dual-fan cooler, a ‘wave fin' heatsink design that reduces friction and allows more air to pass through, and ‘hybrid blade' fans to deliver strong air pressure.  As for the Sapphire RX 6600 XT Pulse, this is the entry-level card, using Dual-X cooling technology with Intelligent Fan Control to keep noise levels low.

Unfortunately at this time, pricing and clock speeds have not been announced.

POWERCOLOR:

This list wouldn't be complete without an entry from PowerColor. As you would expect, there is indeed an RX 6600 XT Red Devil on the way, with a full cooling shroud and backplate covering the full length of the card. The cooler uses a dual-fan design and unlike many of the other cards on this list, the Red Devil includes two power connectors, an 8-pin and a 6-pin. Usually, overclocked speeds would be a key selling point for the Red Devil card, but unfortunately, we haven't seen clock speeds revealed for any of the custom-cooled RX 6600 XT graphics cards just yet.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: There will be more RX 6600 XT cards announced by board partners leading up to launch on August 11th. For full specs and details on AMD's latest Radeon GPU, be sure to check out our launch article, HERE

Just as expected, today AMD is expanding its Radeon RX 6000 series of graphics cards, introducing the RX 6600 XT. Aimed at 1080p, high refresh-rate gaming, the RX 6600 XT packs all the features we've come to expect from RDNA 2, including support for DX12 Ultimate, Smart Access Memory and the latest FidelityFX enhancements.

In terms of specs, the RX 6600 XT packs 32 Compute Units, 32MB of Infinity Cache, 8GB of GDDR6 memory and a 160W TDP – the ‘Game Clock' speed is set at 2359MHz. With all of that packaged together, AMD's internal testing shows up to 2.5x more performance at 1080p compared to the GTX 1060, a card that still ranks amongst the most used on the Steam Hardware Survey today.

Compared to the RX 5600 XT, AMD's numbers show the RX 6600 XT delivering up to 1.7x more performance. Compared to the newer Nvidia RTX 3060, the RX 6600 XT trades blows in some titles, like Cyberpunk 2077 and Horizon Zero Dawn, but handily wins in other titles, like Hitman 3, Resident Evil Village and Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Do bear in mind these are first-party benchmarks, and we will need to run our own tests as part of our review, but they clearly show AMD taking the RTX 3060 head-on.

For competitive esports titles, the RX 6600 XT should face no issues, offering hundreds of frames per second in titles like CS:GO, Rainbow Six Siege and Valorant. We'll have to wait a couple of weeks for reviews to get broader, more detailed performance comparisons between the RX 6600 XT and other graphics cards on the market.

As you would expect from an RDNA 2 GPU, new features like AMD Smart Access Memory, Radeon Boost, Radeon Anti-Lag and of course, FidelityFX Super Resolution, are all supported on the RX 6600 XT. If you're building an all-around AMD gaming rig, then features like SAM will help you gain additional performance to further boost frame rates, while the likes of Radeon Anti-Lag will help ensure latency remains low.

The Radeon RX 6600 XT will be available in gaming PCs from a number of OEMs, including Dell/Alienware, HP and Acer. For DIY builders, board partners like ASRock, ASUS, Biostar, Gigabyte, MSI, PowerColor, Sapphire, XFX and Yeston will be shipping custom-cooled RX 6600 XT graphics cards. Unfortunately, AMD has no plans to sell a reference-design model.

The Radeon RX 6600 XT will be available starting on the 11th of August. MSRP pricing is set at $379 USD, we'll update with UK suggested pricing once that information becomes available.

KitGuru Says: The RX 6600 XT is looking like a promising 1080p card on paper, now we'll just have to wait and see what reviewers have to say. Are any of you hoping to get your hands on an RX 6600 XT when they release?

Earlier this week, RX 6600 XT rumours came to a head, with reports of an announcement taking place during this year's Chinajoy event. The event is still hours away, but it would seem that we've already got confirmation of the GPU through Gigabyte.

The Gigabyte Aorus Spanish-language Twitter account tweeted an image this afternoon, showcasing the company's two custom-cooled RX 6600 XT graphics cards. The first is an RX 6600 XT EAGLE while the other is an RX 6600 XT Gaming, both of which include a triple-fan cooler design.

The tweet itself describes these graphics cards as “incredible for 1080p gaming”, giving us an idea of the performance level AMD is targeting with this new GPU. Currently, the RX 6600 XT is expected to be officially announced at Chinajoy, with retail availability following on the 11th of August.

As reported by VideoCardz, the RX 6600 XT is expected to feature a Navi 23 GPU with 2048 Stream Processors and 8GB of GDDR6 memory across a 128-bit bus, delivering a maximum bandwidth of 256GB/s. As with other Navi GPUs, there will also be some Infinity Cache on board, in this case, 32MB.

It looks like AMD's next graphics card launch is right around the corner. Multiple sources this week have claimed that the RX 6600 XT graphics card will release in August.

According to Coreteks and Moore's Law is Dead (via Videocardz), The Radeon RX 6600 XT will launch in August and feature the Navi 23 GPU and 8GB of GDDR6 memory. The graphics card is said to rival the GTX 1080 Ti and RX 5700 XT in performance.

According to the leak, there won't be a reference model for the RX 6600 XT, so we'll be getting board partner models only. Pricing is said to start at $399 but in the current market, MSRPs don't seem to mean much.

The RX 6600 XT is expected to feature 2048 Stream Processors, 16Gbps GDDR6 memory and 32MB of Infinity Cache.

KitGuru Says: If all of this proves true, then we should be hearing more about this GPU over the coming weeks. Are any of you still hoping to upgrade your graphics card this year?

New rumours regarding the specifications of the AMD Radeon RX 6600 and RX 6600 XT SKUs have emerged. The specifications were based on AMD engineering samples, which should be relatively close to the final product.

According to this Chiphell post (via @9550pro), both the AMD Radeon RX 6600 and the RX 6600 XT will be based on the Navi 23 GPU and feature 8GB of GDDR6 memory across a 128-bit memory bus.

The Radeon RX 6600 XT is reportedly coming with 2048 streaming processors (32 CUs), capable of scoring 9439 points in 3DMark Time Spy. The Ethereum mining performance seems to be about 30MH/s.

As for the Radeon RX 6600, it will feature 28 CUs with 1792 streaming processors and score 7805 points in 3DMark Time Spy (17% less than the RX 6600 XT). The Ethereum mining performance is about 10% inferior to that of the RX 6600 XT, resulting in a hash rate of 27MH/s.

The release date of these cards hasn't been confirmed, but they are expected to release in Q2 2021.

KitGuru says: Considering the expected mining performance, these GPUs appear less likely to be targeted by crypto farms, which will hopefully lead to more stock and availability for gamers.

The Radeon RX 6700 XT officially launched this week, targeting PC gamers looking to play at 1440p resolution. As we know though, this isn't the end for AMD's series of RDNA 2 based graphics cards. Another 1080p gaming focused graphics card is also due and according to leaks this week, we could see it next month.

A new report from known leaker, @KittyYYuko, AMD is preparing another GPU, codenamed ‘Dimgray Cavefish', for an April launch. This graphics card will likely be based on the Navi 23 GPU and will be marketed for “premium 1080p gaming”. In China, this graphics card is supposedly going to carry a 2499 CNY price tag, which converts to around £275 here in the UK, although conversion pricing is never accurate, so do not take this to be the official launch MSRP. So far, we are told to expect this GPU to pack 32 Compute Units and 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM. In terms of comparable GPUs, this upcoming graphics card is said to rival the RTX 3060.

It is possible that this graphics card will use the Navi 22 GPU instead and launch as the RX 6600 XT, which was recently listed on the EEC database. That's all the information we have for now though, but if this leak proves to be true, we'll be hearing official details in just a matter of weeks.

Aside from the upcoming RDNA 2 GPU, the leaker also claims that AMD's codenamed ‘Cezanne' desktop APU is launching in June.

KitGuru Says: Time will tell if these leaks are accurate, but it does seem in-line with what we would expect from a 1080p gaming card on paper. Are many of you still rocking a 1080p monitor? Will you be upgrading your graphics card this year?

Another EEC listing containing the Radeon RX 6700 XT has been spotted. This time, the listing has been made by ASRock and contains two other GPUs: the Radeon RX 6600 XT and the Radeon RX 6700.

As per the listing shared by @KOMACHI_ENSAKA, the Radeon RX 6700XT won't be the only RX 6000 series card with 12GB GDDR6 memory. As it seems, the Radeon RX 6600 XT will also feature 12GB GDDR6 memory. We also came to expect the Radeon RX 6700 would feature 12GB of GDDR6 memory, but the listing shows that this GPU will come with “only” 6GB after all. Given the memory configuration of these cards, both should feature a 192-bit memory bus.

The listing includes multiple ASRock graphics cards including 3x Radeon RX 6600 XT Challenger, an RX 6700 Challenger, 3x RX 6700 XT Challenger, and an RX 6700 XT Phantom Gaming D. The listing also includes new graphics cards featuring older GPUs such as an RX 5700 XT Phantom Gaming, 2x RX 580 Phantom Gaming, and 2x RX570 Phantom Gaming.

We expect to see the Radeon RX 6700 series graphics cards available by the end of Q1 2021. The Radeon RX 6600 XT should follow soon after.

KitGuru says: Do you think the Radeon RX 6700 should have more than 6GB of memory? What do you think about the Radeon RX 6600 XT having 12GB of memory?
