It's been a while since I last looked at a prebuilt system, but the PCSpecialist Topaz Spark has certainly caught my eye. This gaming PC ships with a six-core Zen 4 CPU, RX 6700 graphics, 32GB DDR5 memory and a 750W 80+ Gold power supply – all for £999. Surely it's too good to be true? We put this system through its paces to find out…

Specification:

  • Case: CORSAIR 3000D AIRFLOW MID TOWER GAMING CASE
  • Processor (CPU): AMD Ryzen 5 7500F Six Core CPU (3.7GHz-5.0GHz/38MB CACHE/AM5)
  • Motherboard: ASUS® PRIME B650-PLUS (DDR5, USB 3.2, 6Gb/s) – ARGB Ready!
  • Memory (RAM): 32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 6000MHz (2 x 16GB)
  • Graphics Card: 10GB AMD RADEON™ RX 6700 – HDMI, DP – DX® 12
  • 1st M.2 SSD Drive: 1TB SOLIDIGM P41+ GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 4125MB/s R, 2950MB/s W)
  • Power Supply: CORSAIR 750W RMe SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD
  • Power Cable: 1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
  • Processor Cooling: PCS FrostFlow 100 V3 Series High Performance CPU Cooler
  • WIRELESS INTEL® WI-FI 6E AX210 2,400MBPS/5GHZ, 300MBPS/2.4GHZ PCI-E CARD + BT 5.0
  • Windows 11 Home 64 Bit – inc. Single Licence [KK3-00027]

Taking a closer look at the system, we start with the Corsair 3000D Airflow case. We've not reviewed this one but it's an affordable, compact mid-tower with a tempered glass side panel and vented front panel so we shouldn't have any concerns about airflow. PCSpecialist has fitted two 120mm fans in the front acting as intakes, while there's a single 120mm in the rear acting as exhaust, with some assistance provided by the 120mm CPU air cooler.

The CPU itself is a new one to KitGuru, as we've got the Ryzen 5 7500F. This is essentially a Ryzen 5 7600X, offering the same 6-core 12-thread configuration, but with slightly shaved down clock speeds and no iGPU. A six-core Zen4 CPU at this price range is certainly appealing so it'll be interesting to see how that performs in our testing. The 7500F is also cooled by a PCSpecialist-branded FrostFlow 100V3 air cooler in our system, but due to stock it will be replaced by a DeepCool AG400 ARGB cooler for any retail purchases. Both are fairly standard-looking 4-heatpipe tower coolers so I have no concerns there but it is worth noting.

Paired with the CPU we find 32GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR5 memory, running at 6000 MT/s. It has to be said the timings aren't the tightest, as this is a CL40 kit, however I think it is hugely impressive to get 32GB at this price point. It's arguably overkill for now, but the longevity this provides is pretty remarkable at the £999 price-point. When we initially spoke to PCSpecialist about taking this review unit they were planning on including a 16GB kit, but told us they could do 32GB for basically the same price – so why not?!

To provide the graphical grunt, PCSpecialist has opted for an AMD Radeon RX 6700, and we have the Sapphire Pulse model to be specific. This isn't the same thing as the RX 6700 XT, it's cut-down in terms of core-count and has 10GB GDDR6 memory, but we're still expecting it to do a very solid job once we get to our game benchmarks.

All that hardware is plugged into the ASUS Prime B650-Plus motherboard. We've not reviewed this one but it didn't give me any problems in my testing and taking a quick look into the BIOS shows most things left on Auto, though XMP and ReBar were enabled as we'd expect. The BIOS version isn't the absolute latest, as there was one newer update prior to the system shipping to me, but it was still from August 2023 so we can't knock PCSpecialist too hard there.

One thing not immediately visible is the SSD. PCSpecialist has opted for a single M.2 drive, and this has been installed in the primary slot underneath the integrated heatsink. Specifically we have a 1TB Solidigm P41 Plus that we have reviewed in the past. It's not the fastest drive in the world, but it will get the job done. That is the only drive in the system though, and with the sizes of current games, 1TB won't get you too far these days – but we appreciate there are some limitations with the £999 price tag. The good news is another M.2 slot is very easily accessible just underneath the graphics card, and this operates at PCIe 4.0 x4 speed, so adding another 1 or 2TB drive down the line would be a doddle.

Round the back of the case we can get a look at the power supply, a Corsair 750TXm semi-modular 80+ Gold unit. As it happens, the final spec of this system will actually be changed to a Corsair RMe series due to low stock of the TXm model, but that's actually an upgrade – PCSpecialist is clearly not skimping here, 80+ Gold efficiency is great at this price-point and 750W is more than enough for the current spec and will carry forward if you upgrade the CPU and GPU down the line, so I'd say it's a very shrewd move.

General cable management is fantastic as well. We can see everything has been tied neatly down behind the motherboard tray and nothing looks unsightly, while the GPU and motherboard 24-pin cables round the front have been tied together and tucked away as best as possible. I can't fault the overall build in general – nothing fell loose in transit, no cables were left unplugged or anything like that, it was a flawless setup experience.

The only other point to mention is relatively minor but if you like a bit of an RGB light show with your PC, the Topaz Spark won't float your boat – the only bit of lighting in the entire system comes from the RGB memory, so for the most part it looks pretty dark and stealthy. Some may like that, some may not, but that's what PCSpecialist has opted for.

After a surprising launch of the Sapphire Radeon 6700, AMD listed the Radeon RX 6700 on its website. After the listing went online, Sapphire renamed its graphics card, adding the “RX” branding to it. Moreover, the first benchmarks of an RX 6700 SKU have been shared.

According to AMD, the official specifications of the Radeon RX 6700 list the card as packing a Navi 22 GPU with 2304 stream processors (36 CUs) with a base frequency of 1,941MHz, a game frequency of 2,174MHz and a boost frequency of 2,450MHz. The memory subsystem includes 10GB of GDDR6 clocked at 16Gbps across a 160-bit memory bus. The card also features 80MB of Infinity Cache and has a TBP of 175W.

Interestingly, after AMD listed the new SKU, Sapphire renamed its Radeon 6700 cards to RX 6700. Based on these reference specifications, the two Sapphire cards are factory-overclocked.

Before renaming the cards, Sapphire shipped a few without the “RX” branding to customers. One of these tried it on 3DMark Time Spy and shared the results online, allowing us to compare with the rest of the Radeon RX 6000 series line-up. The scores shared by MEGASizeGPU were obtained using the standard 22.5.2 driver and an updated version of the same driver that supports the new GPU. Here are the 3DMark Time Spy scores:

  • Sapphire Radeon (RX) 6700 using the old driver and default power setting: 9,427 points
  • Sapphire Radeon (RX) 6700 using the old driver and max power setting: 10,304 points
  • Sapphire Radeon (RX) 6700 using the new driver and default power setting: 11,166 points
  • Sapphire Radeon (RX) 6700 using the new driver and max power setting: 11,414 points

The difference between using the standard and the updated driver is quite significant. Using the same power setting, performance improved by 11-18%. Moreover, we can also say that the card performs right between the Radeon RX 6650 XT and the RX 6700 XT, as expected. Based on the average graphics scores, the Sapphire RX 6700 (factory OC) was about 12% faster than the RX 6650 XT. Comparing the RX 6700 to its XT variant, the latter is 14% faster.

While AMD has not announced the non-XT RX 6700 graphics card, it is undoubtedly coming. The latest leak comes from PowerColor, showing a press image of the upcoming RX 6700 Fighter graphics card. The packaging leak also confirms that the RX 6700 will have a 6GB version.

The press shots shared by TechPowerUp show the upcoming graphics card's packaging. As we can see by the three badges in the bottom left corner, the RX 6700 will target 1440p gaming, feature 6GB of VRAM and is PCIe 4.0 capable. PowerColor's ‘Fighter' edition RX 6700 will have a dual-fan cooler, the same one found on the company's custom RX 6700 XT.

It's still unclear if there will be another SKU featuring 12GB of VRAM. We have previously seen EEC entries from ASUS and ASRock listing RX 6700 series graphics cards with both 6GB and 12GB, so there's still a chance AMD will launch a second SKU with double the memory.

While exact specifications remain unconfirmed, the Radeon RX 6700 is expected to feature a cut-down Navi 22 GPU with 36 CUs (2304 stream processors) and a 192-bit memory bus. This graphics card should be launching in Q2 2021.

KitGuru says: If AMD does launch two RX 6700 SKUs with different memory configurations, would you choose to save some money by picking up the 6GB version, or would you prefer to have a full 12GB of VRAM?

The Radeon RX 6700 XT officially launched this week, targeting PC gamers looking to play at 1440p resolution. As we know though, this isn't the end for AMD's series of RDNA 2 based graphics cards. Another 1080p gaming focused graphics card is also due and according to leaks this week, we could see it next month.

A new report from known leaker, @KittyYYuko, AMD is preparing another GPU, codenamed ‘Dimgray Cavefish', for an April launch. This graphics card will likely be based on the Navi 23 GPU and will be marketed for “premium 1080p gaming”. In China, this graphics card is supposedly going to carry a 2499 CNY price tag, which converts to around £275 here in the UK, although conversion pricing is never accurate, so do not take this to be the official launch MSRP. So far, we are told to expect this GPU to pack 32 Compute Units and 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM. In terms of comparable GPUs, this upcoming graphics card is said to rival the RTX 3060.

It is possible that this graphics card will use the Navi 22 GPU instead and launch as the RX 6600 XT, which was recently listed on the EEC database. That's all the information we have for now though, but if this leak proves to be true, we'll be hearing official details in just a matter of weeks.

Aside from the upcoming RDNA 2 GPU, the leaker also claims that AMD's codenamed ‘Cezanne' desktop APU is launching in June.

KitGuru Says: Time will tell if these leaks are accurate, but it does seem in-line with what we would expect from a 1080p gaming card on paper. Are many of you still rocking a 1080p monitor? Will you be upgrading your graphics card this year?

AMD is allegedly preparing to launch two variants of the Radeon RX 6700 XT. Expected to release at the same time, the two variants of the card will feature different TGPs and clock speeds. A mid-March launch date is also expected.

The report comes from Coreteks, which claims there will be an ASIC A and an ASIC B. The ASIC A featuring a 230W TGP would be used for factory-overclocked models, while the ASIC B (reference model) with a 189W TGP would be featured on reference-based and non-overclocked cards. The RX 6700 XT is also said to come with 12GB of GDDR6 memory clocked at 16Gbps.

Compared to the Radeon RX 5700 XT, the reference Radeon RX 6700 XT should offer 20-25% more performance. The ASIC A is expected to offer from 5% to 8% improved performance over ASIC B. Both SKUs should release between March 15th and 19th, matching the March 18th release date we shared a few days ago.

The non-XT Radeon RX 6700, will apparently come with 6GB of GDDR6 at 16Gbps. This graphics card is expected to release in April 2021.

KitGuru says: Which Radeon RX 6700 XT SKU are you more interested in? Does the reported 20-25% performance improvement over the Radeon RX 5700 XT fall within your expectations?

Another EEC listing containing the Radeon RX 6700 XT has been spotted. This time, the listing has been made by ASRock and contains two other GPUs: the Radeon RX 6600 XT and the Radeon RX 6700.

As per the listing shared by @KOMACHI_ENSAKA, the Radeon RX 6700XT won't be the only RX 6000 series card with 12GB GDDR6 memory. As it seems, the Radeon RX 6600 XT will also feature 12GB GDDR6 memory. We also came to expect the Radeon RX 6700 would feature 12GB of GDDR6 memory, but the listing shows that this GPU will come with “only” 6GB after all. Given the memory configuration of these cards, both should feature a 192-bit memory bus.

The listing includes multiple ASRock graphics cards including 3x Radeon RX 6600 XT Challenger, an RX 6700 Challenger, 3x RX 6700 XT Challenger, and an RX 6700 XT Phantom Gaming D. The listing also includes new graphics cards featuring older GPUs such as an RX 5700 XT Phantom Gaming, 2x RX 580 Phantom Gaming, and 2x RX570 Phantom Gaming.

We expect to see the Radeon RX 6700 series graphics cards available by the end of Q1 2021. The Radeon RX 6600 XT should follow soon after.

Now that the Radeon RX 6800 series has launched, the rumour mill has started to focus more on the Radeon RX 6700 series. The latest rumours detail some specifications of the Navi 22 XT and Navi 22 XTL GPUs, including the memory capacity and TGP.

According to new information from Patrick Schur, the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card will be powered by the Navi 22 XT GPU, which has a TGP ranging from 186W to 211W. The Navi 22 XTL that is expected to feature in the Radeon RX 6700 has a 146-156W TGP, but Patrick Schur states that the lower TGP limit might be less than 146W. Both cards should come with 12GB of GDDR6 memory. Compared to the 225W TGP of the Radeon RX 5700 XT and the 180W TGP of the Radeon RX 5700, power consumption has reduced significantly.

Regarding the remaining specifications of the Navi 22 XT GPU, the Linux Kernel leak suggests it should feature 40 CUs (2560 stream processors) and a 192-bit memory bus, which fits the alleged 12GB of VRAM. The Navi 22 XTL GPU should also feature a 192-bit bus, but if it's a cut-down Navi 22 GPU, the CU count should be lower than 40 but higher than 32, lining up with the expected CU count of the Navi 23 GPU.

The Navi 22-based graphics card are expected to launch in early 2021.
