We already knew that Helldivers 2 has been a huge success so far. One look at the game's high concurrent player counts on Steam proves that. However, the story has gotten all the more impressive this week, with Helldivers 2 being crowned as the best-selling game in the UK.

In February 2024, which was the launch month for Helldivers 2, the game reached the top of sales charts in the UK, according to data from GSD, as shared by GI.biz. The game first launched on the 8th of February and in the three weeks that followed, the game continued to outsell competing titles like EA FC 24, Call of Duty, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Skull and Bones, Persona 3 Reload and more.

Overall, UK gamers bought up around 2.77 million video games over the course of the month. Impressively, Helldivers 2 achieved the rare feat of seeing sales growth week to week, meaning good word of mouth about the game boosted sales after the initial launch period, which is usually when the most copies of any game are sold.

With this hot start, Arrowhead is in a good position to solidify a position in the ‘live' shooter arena, a very competitive one usually dominated by a few large IP, like Call of Duty, Fortnite, Apex Legends and others.

KitGuru Says: I've been playing a lot of Helldivers 2 over the last couple of weeks. We're on the verge of liberating the final planet required to unlock mech suits, and a new Warbond is coming in March, so it looks like my time in the game isn't going to slow down anytime soon.

Palworld has achieved another remarkable milestone by surpassing 25 million players across all platforms. Developed by Pocketpair, the game has garnered 15 million unit sales on Steam and 10 million Xbox gamers.

Pocketpair announced the latest Palworld download stats on the game's official Twitter/X account. According to the developer, the game has attracted over 25 million participants since its launch one month ago. While this number may include repeat purchases on Steam and Xbox, as well as Game Pass subscribers, the fact that the game has sold this many copies on just two platforms is noteworthy.

Palworld launched at the end of January and has since gained a massive following. It has also dominated Twitch's Top 10 for January 2024 despite having only a third of the month to accumulate such numbers. The game has been the most downloaded third-party game on Game Pass in history and surpassed Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on Steam for the second-highest concurrent player count ever.

Pocketpair will keep adding more content to the game and has promised to improve the Xbox version, which runs on an older build. Hopefully, it will soon achieve version parity with Steam and allow people to crossplay between both platforms.

Football Manager has become a very successful series, as you can see by its sales numbers. With Football Manager 2024 setting a new record for the series' history with over seven million copies sold, FM has built a massive and dedicated following, making it an essential part of sports gaming.

Sports Interactive, the studio behind the game, has been working hard to make it as accessible as possible, focusing on incorporating women's football and providing language support for countries like China, Japan, and South Korea. The studio has embraced every channel available, including subscription services and consoles, smartphones, and Netflix releases, making it easy for players to access the game on their preferred platforms.

Miles Jacobson, SI's studio director, is proud of the game's growth over the last four years, from celebrating two million players in 2020 to seven million in 2024. He credits the team at SI and the community of players that the studio has been engaging with since the early days of the internet.

Despite the impressive figures, Jacobson's proudest moment is when he thinks about what the game means to individual players. For many, Football Manager is more than just a game; it's a way to live out their football fantasies and build their dream teams. It's a testament to the game's quality and depth that it has become an integral part of many people's lives.

Helldivers 2 has been a massive success for Arrowhead Games studio and seems to be getting even bigger. The game surpassed Sony's Steam records, and sales have exceeded the developer and publisher's expectations.

According to Arrowhead Games studio CEO and Creative Director Johan Pilestedt, Helldivers 2 has sold “around a million” copies. He also stated that the game is “blowing through the estimates,” which is a remarkable achievement for the studio. Likely, the game has significantly exceeded the developer and publisher's sales forecasts, and the sales figures are still rising.

Helldivers 2 is a fun game to play with friends, and the sales split between PlayStation 5 and PC versions is roughly 50:50, according to Pilestedt. However, he noted that the numbers are changing rapidly, and this estimate may not be accurate. Moreover, when asked about Sony's plans to reveal the number of copies sold, Pilestedt wrote that he didn't understand why it was a secret. As of now, Sony has not provided any specific sales figures for Helldivers 2 on any platform.

Despite some technical issues, Helldivers 2 has been a massive success since its launch on February 9th. With a peak of close to 156,000 concurrent players, it is Sony's largest Steam release. Before its release, the game was one of the most pre-ordered titles on the PlayStation Store in the US and other regions and a top seller on Steam.

KitGuru says: Considering the game's previous performance, it wouldn't be surprising if Helldivers 2 continues to climb in popularity and sales. Still, don't expect it to reach the level of something like Palworld.

Late last year, Sony announced that the PlayStation 5 had officially sold over 50 million units since its release in November 2020. While Microsoft stopped reporting on Xbox’s sales years ago, thanks to Take-Two Interactive’s latest fiscal earnings meeting, we now have a strong estimate.

As mentioned, late last year Sony announced that it had sold over 50 million units (as of the 9th of December), marking an impressive milestone for the console – especially as its first 2 years of sales were gimped by supply issues.

As part of Take-Two Interactive’s latest fiscal report, the publisher revealed that 77 million 9th-gen consoles have been sold as of the 31st of December 2023. Due to the slight misalignment in dates between Sony and Take-Two’s announcements, it is safe to say that an additional 2 million consoles were sold during December (to give a conservative estimate).

In doing some quick maths, assuming Take-Two’s figures are accurate, then Microsoft has seemingly sold around 23-25 million Series consoles since its launch. Of course, with Microsoft themselves not reporting on console sales, all we will ever get for the system sales-wise are estimates.

While 25 million in 3 years is significantly less than PlayStation, the Xbox Series is by no means a failure – and so it is interesting to see that the company is considering going 3rd-party.

During Nintendo's latest earnings call, the company shared the total sales number for Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, ending the debate for the best-selling game of 2023. With over 22 million copies, Hogwarts Legacy has officially beaten out The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as 2023's best-selling game worldwide, which sold 20.28 million copies.

Warner Bros. Interactive shared the sales figures for the Harry Potter game almost a month ago, but back then, the total sales numbers for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom were still unknown. There was speculation that Zelda could have surpassed it in global sales, especially since Nintendo's digital sales figures were not disclosed outside of its financial results, which were only recently shared.

It's worth noting that Hogwarts Legacy was launched in February 2022, three months before The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's exclusive release on the Nintendo Switch. Despite this, Tears of the Kingdom still managed to sell an impressive 20.28 million copies in 2023.

Throughout the year, Hogwarts Legacy remained a chart-topper globally, with its delayed release on various platforms contributing to its success. Warner Bros plans to continue building on the success of the Harry Potter franchise with upcoming projects like Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions and others.

Palworld has taken the gaming world by storm since its debut earlier this month. It has become the largest third-party Game Pass launch in just ten days, reaching over 7 million players across Xbox consoles, PC and the cloud.

The Steam version of Palworld is a few updates ahead of the Xbox version (Microsoft Store version included). Even so, the game already has over 7 million players on Microsoft's gaming platform, with a peak of nearly 3 million daily active users.

PocketPair is refining the experience before a full 1.0 release and actively listening to player input. Cross-play is one of the most popular requests from fans, and the team is working towards making it a reality. Xbox is providing support to Pocketpair to improve the Xbox version of the game, as well as technical assistance in enabling dedicated servers, optimising GPU and RAM usage, and expediting accessibility updates.

Palworld is available via the Game Preview program on the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC. The game is accessible to Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass subscribers, as well as Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) users with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

After a very lengthy marketing period, the much anticipated Tekken 8 is finally out in the world for all to enjoy. It seems as though the game has found a strong audience straight from the get-go, as physical sales of the game in the UK have more than doubled that of its closest competition: Street Fighter 6.

Following the game’s initial launch period which began on the 25th of January, it seems as though Tekken 8 has managed to surpass expectations, with Gamesindustry.biz’ Christopher Dring taking to Twitter to say:

“Last year I was surprised at how low Street Fighter 6’s UK sales were at physical retail (it did fine digitally). I wondered if it was a genre trend, but Tekken 8’s UK physical sales are good, and more than double the launch of SF6. So… who knows? Maybe it was the competition.”

As mentioned by Dring, Street Fighter 6 sold well even at launch, but the game’s retail presence seems to have left quite a bit to be desired. It is therefore interesting to see just how much more successful Tekken 8 has been at retail – especially since the game was delayed out of 2023 in order to not clash with Street Fighter 6. It seems as though the decision to internally delay the game to a more quiet period has worked.

With Tekken 7 selling over 10 million copies, it will be interesting to see just how many units Bandai Namco are able to push with its successor in just one year.

The co-op survival action RPG Enshrouded was released on Steam Early Access just last week and is already a success. The game has sold over a million copies in just four days, and although it's not on the same level as Palworld, it's still remarkable.

Now available on Steam, Enshrouded offers both solo and co-op modes, with up to 16 players allowed in each session. Players can explore a vast world, battle fierce enemies, construct grand structures, and build to their hearts' content.

One of the game's most impressive features is its voxel-based construction mechanism, similar to Minecraft's. This technology allows players to design massive structures with an extensive range of materials and furnishings. Even more fascinating is that Enshrouded has its own engine (Holistic Engine). The game is not powered by Unity or Unreal Engine 5, but it still looks stunning. Keen Games sure deserves some praise for what they've created.

Currently, the game is in early access, and Keen Games plans to fully release it within a year. The game's Early Access version includes all basic gameplay mechanics, and the team intends to improve and introduce new gameplay features during this phase. Additionally, they plan to expand the world dramatically.

In an unfortunate case of ransomware, Insomniac Games have had a great deal of their internal documents leaked online. As part of this, concrete sales figures for the many PC ports of PlayStation titles have now been revealed.

As shared by Reddit user ‘OrangeC-2003’, an internal document from February 2023 shows the complete sales data for Steam specifically (meaning the Epic Games Store etc… are not included), revealing the best selling games so far:

  • Horizon Zero Dawn – 3.3 million
  • God of War – 2.5 million
  • Days Gone – 1.7 million
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered – 1.3 million
  • Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection – 483k
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales – 450k
  • Sackboy: A Big Adventure – 63k

It is worth noting that Horizon Zero Dawn was the first game to come to PC – all the way back in 2020 – meaning it had plenty of time to accumulate its sales. Similarly, Miles Morales had only been out for around 3 months when this presentation was created, so its relative lack of sales can be explained.

Regardless, it is interesting nonetheless to get an insight into the performance of these many ports – especially as Sony is quite elusive with sharing such sales data.

Black Friday sales have arrived in force, with most major stores now offering big discounts on all things tech. Here, we break down some of the best gaming peripheral deals we've spotted so far, including mechanical keyboards, mice and headsets. If you are looking for a fresh upgrade – we have you covered at all budget points.

We're kicking things off with keyboards, starting off with high-end options and working our way to more wallet-friendly options. If you have over £200 to spend on a new mechanical keyboard, then there are solid options from Corsair and Razer.

The Corsair K100 AIR RGB with Slipstream Wireless technology and Cherry MX Ultra Low profile switches. This keyboard is currently just under 20% off, bringing the price down from £279.99 to £229.99.

The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro keycap bundle offers good value. For a discounted price of £217.99, you can get the BlackWidow V4 Pro mechanical keyboard with Razer's own tactile mechanical switches, as well as a set of upgraded PBT keycaps. Personally, I would use this as a longevity booster, wearing out the first set of keycaps before turning back the clock by giving the keyboard a clean and putting the fresh set of keycaps on to get the keyboard looking good as new.

For those with up to £200 to spend, there are several popular options. The Corsair K70 MAX RGB with adjustable-actuation switches is currently down to £176.39. The Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro with Razer Green Switches and Chroma RGB lighting is down from £229.99 to £177.99.

The Alienware Tri-Mode wireless gaming keyboard with AlienFX RGB lighting and Cherry MX Red switches is down from £249.99 to £174.99. If you prefer a TKL option, the SteelSeries Apex Pro offers an OLED panel, USB-C connection and adjustable-actuation switches for £169.99.

Moving below the £150 mark, we find the Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 at £139.99, the SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini (60% keyboard) at £129, the Razer Huntsman V2 with Optical switches at £130.99, the Logitech G915 Lightspeed with low-profile switches at £125, the Razer BlackWidow V3 at £103.48 and finally, the Corsair K70 RGB TKL at £104.99.

Usually $150, the brand new Arbiter Studio Polar 65 is now 30% off, bringing the price down to $105 for all colour combinations, including Ronin Red, Kumo Blue, Jedi Green, Midnight Lilac, Silver Lilac and Silver Panda.

You don't necessarily have to spend more than £100 to get a solid and reliable keyboard for gaming. There are plenty of solid options in the £50 to £80 range too.

Starting off at the top, we have the NZXT Function Mechanical Keyboard with hot-swappable switches at £80.70. Thanks to the hot-swap design, you can easily replace the switch to any mechanical switch you prefer at any point in time – including Cherry MX switches. At a similar price point, you can find the MSI Vigor GK71 with full RGB and media keys for £79.99. The TKL version of the Razer BlackWidow V3 can be found for £75.49.

The MSI GK50 low-profile TKL mechanical keyboard with clicky switches can be found for £59.99 and would look right at home in a gaming setup with per-key RGB lighting. The Razer Ornata V3 also offers low-profile switches but uses ‘mecha-membrane' switches instead, alongside full Razer Chroma RGB lighting.

At 47 percent off, the HyperX Alloy Origins Core keyboard offers a space-friendly tenkeyless (TKL) layout and RGB lighting with HyperX Red switches for £52.99. For a full-size option, you can find the Corsair K55 RGB PRO XT wired membrane keyboard at £49.99.

In this section, we cover gaming mice, including high-end to budget options.

As we saw with keyboards, Razer has some nice mouse bundles as well, with several higher-end options coming with a Goliathus Chroma RGB mouse pad with wireless charging capabilities so you can keep your mouse constantly topped up during use.

At 20% off, the Razer Naga V2 Pro and Goliathus Chroma bundle comes in at £173.99. The Naga is an excellent option for MMO gamers in particular thanks to its additional programmable side buttons. On its own, the Naga V2 Pro costs £149.

At £160.96, you can nab a Razer Basilisk V3 Pro with a Goliathus Chroma RGB mouse pad, offering a comfortable shape for palm grip gamers with fewer side buttons to obstruct your thumb. On its own, the Basilisk V3 Pro costs £135.99.

For a lower-profile option, the Razer Cobra Pro mouse with Goliathus Chroma mouse pad can be found for £143.99. If you are a fan of the tried and true DeathAdder mouse, then for £140.63, you can get to the DeathAdder V3 Pro with Goliathus Chroma mouse pad.

At around the £105 mark, you can find the Corsair Nightsabre RGB wireless MOBA gaming mouse with up to 100-hour battery life, or the Razer Viper V2 Pro Wireless esports gaming mouse.

Corsair's alternative to the Razer Naga, the SCIMITAR ELITE RGB Wireless MMO gaming mouse with up to 150 hours of battery life can be found for £99.98 with a similar side key layout with lots of reprogrammable buttons.

The Razer Viper Ultimate with its charging dock can be found for £90.89, with a 20K optical sensor and Chroma lighting. The Logitech G Pro X Superlight is another great lightweight wireless option in the sub-£100 bracket, offering up to 70 hours of battery life at £89.90. However, if you prefer a claw-grip style mouse, the Corsair M65 RGB Ultra Wireless with up to 120 hours of battery life offers very good specs at £79.99. For a palm grip option, Corsair has the Dark Core RGB Pro SE gaming mouse at £69.99 with Qi Wireless Charging capabilities.

The SteelSeries Aerox 5 Wireless gaming mouse offers a honeycomb shell for lightweight and swift movements for FPS games at £62.99. Alienware's AW620M is more suited for palm grip at that same £62.99 price point.

HyperX has its own honeycomb shell, ultralight mouse with lengthy battery life in the form of the HyperX Pulsefire Haste, weighing just 62g and costing £54.99 during this month's sales period. Offering a similar spec is the SteelSeries Aerox 3 for £49.99. Again, if you prefer a taller, palm-grip-suited mouse, then the Corsair Dark Core RGB Pro can be found at £49.99.

If you aren't looking for a wireless mouse, or to spend as much as £50 on a mouse, then the SteelSeries Rival 5 and NZXT Lift are both great options that fall under the £35 mark while offering RGB lighting.

At £19.99, you can grab a Trust Gaming Keyboard and mouse set, both with full RGB lighting, making for an easy and cheap way to brighten up your PC setup.

If you are looking for an audio upgrade, then there are plenty of discounts to be found there too. Everyone needs a gaming headset for reliable comms with teammates in multiplayer games, or for quietly playing through single-player titles.

At the high-end, Razer's bundle options feature again, offering a headset, alongside an RGB Chroma-lit headphone hangar for your desk to keep your headphones tucked away when not in use. The Razer Barracuda Pro wireless with base station is down from £319.98 to £270.99, the BlackShark V2 Pro with base station is down to £228.99 and the ever-popular Kraken V3 Pro with base station is down to £228.99 as well.

SteelSeries also has some great options in the high-end, including the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless, now down to £268.99 (18% off) and the Arctis Pro Wireless at £199.99.

Moving into the below £200 bracket, the Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless XT offers Dolby Atmos, Bluetooth audio and multi-platform support for £184.99. At that same price point, you can also find the Logitech G Astro A30 Lightspeed.

If you don't mind giving up features like Dolby Atmos support out of the box, then the standard Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless can be found at £149.99. Another step below that, at £134.99, you could nab the latest HyperX Cloud III Wireless gaming headset.

The Steel Series Arctis Pro with GameDAC offers a high-fidelity wired option at the £124.99 price point – a 50% saving over its RRP. If you want a wireless headset for that kind of money, then the standard Razer Barracuda Wireless with USB-C charging can be found for £118.99.

At closer to the £100 mark, the Logitech G Pro X Wireless and Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless can both be found for £109 during the sales period.

You don't have to spend over £100 to get reliable gaming audio. There are plenty of more affordable options well below the £100 mark, including the base model Razer Barracuda X Wireless, offering multiplatform support, USB-C charging and 40mm drivers at £82.99. The wired version of the HyperX Cloud III can be found for £79.99. Corsair's comparable HS80 RGB wired headset can be found at £69.99.

If you would rather have a wireless headset at £60 or less, the Corsair HS55 Wireless Core offers exactly that, with 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth, as well as support for 3D Audio on the PS5, for £59.99. However, if you don't mind trading down to a wired model with Dolby Surround support out of the box, then the Corsair HS65 Surround might be the way to go at £54.98.

At £34.99, you can find the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 1 and Corsair HS35 wired gaming headsets. Logitech's most comparable option is the Logitech G432 Wired Gaming Headset at £38.50 with its generously large ear cups. Finally, the Trust Gaming GXT 391 Thian is built using environmentally sustainable materials and offers wireless audio at just £39.99.

The UK video game sales chart last week was dominated by Starfield, with Bethesda's new RPG entering the chart in the number one spot, beating out the likes of Call of Duty, NBA 2K24, FIFA and others. The game's success has also had an impact on the sales of Xbox consoles.

According to GfK tracking data, via GI.biz, Xbox Series X/S sales rose by 76 percent last week alongside Starfield's launch. The standard Xbox Series X had the biggest boost, but there has also been a good jump in the sales of Xbox Series S consoles.

According to the data, the brand-new 1TB version of the Xbox Series S accounted for around 24 percent of Xbox sales in the UK, while the Xbox Series X had a 46 percent increase in sales for the week ending on September 2nd.

We currently don't have information on how Starfield's launch has impacted Game Pass subscriptions. However, we do know that the game has already surpassed six million players, with two million of those playing during the game's early access period, which was only available to those who pre-ordered the game's Premium Edition or bought the Premium Edition upgrade on Game Pass for £34.99.

KitGuru Says: Microsoft's next earnings report will certainly be interesting, but we're still a while off from that happening. If Starfield is performing as well as they'd hoped, then we should hear about a new Game Pass milestone and increased gaming revenues.

After spending a couple of years in early access, Larian officially launched Baldur's Gate 1.0 last week to great success. Over the weekend, the game rose to the top of the Steam charts, garnering a hugely impressive 800,000 concurrent players over the launch period.

Larian founder, Swen Vincke, admitted that the number of concurrent players has caught the studio off guard. Swen expected around 100,000 players at max, but the final figure came in at 814,000 players.

This peak concurrent player number puts Baldur's Gate 3 in the top ten most played games on Steam of all time, coming in just behind Hogwarts Legacy, and a bit further behind the likes of Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077. The top four spots are dominated by free to play titles like Dota 2, Lost Ark, CS:GO and PUBG.

Baldur's Gate 3 has very impressive graphics but it is ultimately an old-school style cRPG with D&D mechanics, including dice rolls. Games like this have been popular in the past but are still considered to be niche. With that in mind, Baldur's Gate 3 has blown away all expectations, and that's just with the PC version. Next month, the game will also come to PS5 and at some point, it should land on Xbox too after some extra development time.

Final Fantasy is one of the most iconic franchises in gaming, with its roots stretching all the way back to 1987. 35 years later and the series is going stronger than ever. Following the recent release of FFXVI, Square Enix has revealed that the franchise has sold over 180 million units.

As reported and translated by NoisyPixel, the recent collaboration between Square Enix and a Japanese musical theatre group saw the publisher offer up-to-date sales figures for the entire Final Fantasy franchise, saying:

“The legendary Final Fantasy series has shipped and downloaded over 180 million copies worldwide since the first game was released in 1987. With its beautiful graphics, unique worldview, and rich storyline, the series has captivated people not only in Japan but also around the world and has expanded beyond the boundaries of video games to include TV dramas, movies, Kabuki, and various other media mixes.”

Prior to this announcement, the official total sales figures for Final Fantasy sat at 173 million; announced back in March of 2022. Since then, Square Enix has released a bunch of major games in the franchise including Crisis Core: Final Fantasy Reunion and most recently FFXVI.

180 million units is absolutely huge, however it is always interesting to note the fact that this means the entire Final Fantasy franchise has ‘only’ sold as many copies as Rockstar’s 2013 open-world blockbuster GTA V. Of course, GTA V is the second best-selling game of all time so the comparison is somewhat unfair. Regardless of GTA’s sales, the continued success of Final Fantasy so many decades later is welcome to see.

After years of working on its own VR/AR hardware, Apple officially announced the Vision Pro headset at WWDC earlier this year. Apple initially projected a sales target of 1 million headsets in 2024, but the company has now reportedly dialled that back.

The Apple Vision Pro is a $3,499 headset and while the initial announcement trailer may make it seem consumer-oriented, its price puts it far out of the reach of most, even more so than other pricey headsets in recent years, like the Meta Quest Pro and the Valve Index. Still, Apple does expect to see a good amount of initial interest and had set the goal of shipping 1 million units after launch in early 2024.

Now according to The Financial Times, Apple has had to cut its forecasts due to production issues. It is claimed that Apple may only be able to make 400,000 headsets in total for next year. According to supply chain sources, Apple's dual micro-OLED displays and lenses are at the root of the issue.

If Apple is able to bring more production partners on board, then it may be able to brute force its way out of this problem. In the meantime though, plans for Apple's cheaper Vision headset have been delayed.

During its launch week back in 2016, Final Fantasy 15 sold around five million copies. With Final Fantasy 16, Square Enix is enjoying similar launch day success, with 3 million copies being sold in the game's first three days on the market.

Square Enix has clarified that the three million figure represents both physical and digital sales worldwide. While it falls slightly short of the FF7 Remake's three-day sales of 3.5 million units, it's important to note that the game was released exclusively for the PlayStation 4, which had a larger install base at the time than the PS5 currently has.

Although these numbers are impressive, they are overshadowed by the recently released The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which sold an impressive 10 million copies in just three days.

Final Fantasy XVI currently has an OpenCritic score of 89, with 93% of the critics recommending the game. Overall, reviewers have praised its combat system, boss battles, and visuals.

The Xbox Series X|S has been selling pretty well in the UK. Since its launch 128 weeks ago, customers have bought over two million consoles (combining both models), making it the eighth fastest-selling console in the region.

The data comes from the analysts at GfK (via gamesindsutry.biz), who also added that the two consoles had generated a cumulative revenue of £696 million. In eighth place, the Xbox Series X|S reached the 2 million milestone faster than the original Xbox (162 weeks) and the Nintendo Switch (140 weeks). At the top of this chart, you'll see the Nintendo Wii, which hit 2 million sales in only 57 weeks. The rival PS5 console is in fourth place with 98 weeks to reach the two million sales figure.

The table below includes the top 10 fastest-selling consoles to reach 2 million sales in the UK based on GfK data:

Position Platform Release Year Launch Price Weeks to 2m Revenue at 2m
1 Nintendo Wii 2006 £180 57 £358m
2 PS2 2000 £299 60 £469m
3 PS4 2013 £375 75 £700m
4 PS5 2020 £425 98 £919m
4 PS3 2007 £420 98 £638m
5 Xbox One 2013 £450 104 £726m
6 Xbox 360 2005 £254 110 £507m
7 PlayStation 1 1995 £299 114 £179m
8 Xbox Series S and X 2020 £386 128 £696m
9 Nintendo Switch 2017 £285 140 £279m
10 Xbox 2002 £295 162 £280m

If not for the chip shortage that affected the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S during 2021 and 2022, the milestone could have been reached at a quicker pace for both Sony and Microsoft.

KitGuru says: With the PS5 being faster than the Xbox Series X|S to reach the milestone, one could argue that Sony's console is winning the race in the UK. However, the winner is only determined at the finish line. During the Wii/PS3/Xbox 360 era, the Wii was the fastest-selling console in the region, but in the end, the Xbox 360 sold slightly more units than Nintendo's console.

Call of Duty is a massive seller every year but for the most part, console versions beat out the PC version in sales. That might be starting to change, as Activision's latest earnings report shows.

Activision's latest earnings report shows that PC sales outperformed console sales between January and the end of March this year. The company made a total of $639 million through sales on consoles, versus $666 million made on the PC platform.

This is a particularly interesting shift, as AAA games typically do tend to sell better on consoles. As PCGamer points out, Activision's own public financial reports show that it has primarily made most of its money on console for decades, even after acquiring Blizzard in 2008.

Microsoft will no doubt be pleased to hear this, as the company is currently looking to boost its PC gaming efforts and grow Game Pass on the PC platform. If the company can push its acquisition of Activision Blizzard through, then it will see a good boost across console, PC and mobile game sales.

KitGuru Says: Do you think PC will continue on this trend, or do you think console game sales will eventually take back the top spot?

Star Wars Jedi Survivor was one of the most anticipated games of the year. Unfortunately, its launch was hampered by a great deal of issues across the board on both consoles and PCs. Bugs aside, the game seems to be a great improvement on all fronts, and so it is not surprising to see the sequel’s digital sales doubling that of Fallen Order.

As reported by gamesindustry.biz’s Christopher Dring “Although physical sales were down, with the digital data, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor actually beat Star War Jedi: Fallen Order's launch sales by over 30%. This is because Survivor's digital accounted [for] almost double what Fallen Order managed.”

It is worth noting that these sales figures pertain to its performance in the UK and nowhere else – though such trends are typically somewhat similar across markets.

Jedi Survivor’s sales are doubly impressive when considering the fact that the game was released exclusively on PC and current-gen platforms (PS5 and Series X|S) – meaning it managed to blow past its predecessor with far fewer systems available.

It is a shame for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to have launched in the state that it did, especially with how successful the game is proving to be. Hopefully EA and Respawn Entertainment are able to fix as many of the issues present as soon as possible.

Back in February just two weeks after the game's launch, WB announced that the game had sold 12 million copies so far. Now, just as the game is launching for Xbox One and PS4, the game has surpassed 15 million copies sold to date.

Hogwarts Legacy is WB's “biggest launch ever”, shipping 12 million copies in the two weeks since launch for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5. Now a few months later, the game has surpassed 15 million copies sold. The game is now becoming available on Xbox One and PS4 consoles, meaning more gamers will be able to pick up the game and play.

Hogwarts Legacy should get another boost later in the year, as the game is still due to release on the Nintendo Switch. Even with its limited platform availability, the game has generated more than $1 billion in sales worldwide, which is an impressive feat.

Currently, there are ‘no plans' for Hogwarts Legacy DLC, but that could change now that the game is available on more platforms. Early indications show that the game is running fairly well on last-gen systems too.

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series has been a tremendous success since its launch, selling over two million copies globally.

The remastered bundle was initially launched on Steam and mobile platforms, garnering a loyal audience. A few months after, Square Enix announced the bundle would also make its way to some consoles, specifically the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 4. These versions were released in digital and physical formats in April, with the latter selling out soon after release. As the number of platforms grew, so did the sales, eventually breaking the two million mark across all platforms.

The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection is an ideal entry point for newcomers to the series and veterans alike. The bundle includes the series’ early entries from Final Fantasy 1 to 6, and the remasters add a modern twist to the pixelated visuals, including updated spell effects. Turn-based battles have also been revised.

The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster bundle is now available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC and mobile.

KitGuru says: With these sales numbers, it’s clear that there are still plenty of dedicated Final Fantasy fans looking to revisit the classic games.

After a somewhat slow start due component supply issues, Sony announced at the beginning of the year that PS5 consoles should no longer be in short supply. We have seen this pan out, with the system’s sales skyrocketing over the past few months – and breaking records in the process. This trajectory seems to not be slowing down any time soon, with even more records being broken in March.

As reported by industry analyst Mat Piscatella, the PlayStation 5 managed to set a new platform record for Sony, with March’s US figures revealing that the PS5’s console sales had surpassed the previous March record holder – the PSP (which managed to shift 620,000 units back in March of 2005).

This is but one of the many impressive feats recorded by Sony last month, with March also being the best month for the PS5 hardware-sales-wise in 2023. This sudden influx of new sales across the past few months has helped push the PS5 beyond its older sibling – surpassing the PlayStation 4 on a time-alligned basis (meaning 29 months into the console’s life on the market).

Across the pond, the PS5 is performing just as well. As reported by Christopher Dring, while both the Nintendo Switch and Xbox saw year-on-year drops of 18% and 10% respectively, the PS5 grew by an astonishing 369% – bringing the total hardware sales for March up by 41% across the industry.

When Sony said that more PS5’s would be available this year, they weren’t kidding. If the PS5 continues to perform this well for the rest of the year, then the sky truly is the limit. We will have to wait and see how the months pan out.

Kingston has been a key player in the memory market for decades and even after selling off the HyperX brand, the company has not slowed down in the high-performance market segment. This week, Kingston officially surpassed a new milestone, having sold an impressive 100 million overclockable memory modules worldwide.

In 2002, Kingston launched the HyperX line of high-performance memory modules, which became widely recognized and famous among enthusiasts and gaming communities. Despite selling the brand to HP in 2021, Kingston continues to invest its resources and expertise into creating next-generation enthusiast products under the Kingston Fury brand.

Despite its significant presence in the consumer market, Kingston Fury also has a share of the server memory market. The company was granted a U.S. patent in 2005 on a proprietary, dynamic burn-in tester to ensure the quality of the server memory modules. Kingston's portfolio now includes Kingston Fury Renegade Pro DDR5 RDIMMs, overclockable server-class DDR5 memory for creators, engineers, and data science professionals, and Kingston Fury Beast DDR5 and Renegade DDR5 memory modules with white heat spreaders that allow users to choose the colour that best fits their style.

In a statement, Iwona Zalewska, DRAM business manager at Kingston EMEA, said: “Kingston is committed to designing and manufacturing products that offer consumers unparalleled style and performance. This milestone demonstrates Kingston’s market leadership, supporting users in every segment of our industry by providing world-renowned customer service and the highest quality products, with reliability to match.”

Hot Wheels Unleashed is Milestone's most successful release. A year and a half since its introduction, the game sold over 2 million copies and was played by more than 8 million players worldwide.

Based on the latest statistics shared by Milestone, the studio behind the game, Hot Wheels Unleashed has sold over 2 million copies globally and has over 8 million registered gamers on all the platforms where the game is available. The latter figure comes from the game being free to Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus subscribers. According to the data posted, users have played the game for about 939 years worth of time.

The action-packed arcade-style racing game is accessible but hard to master. It enables Hot Wheels enthusiasts to drift, boost, leap, and crash while picking from 60+ cars and six distinct landscapes. Among all vehicle categories, the Hot Wheels Twin Mill 2021 is the most popular, appearing in almost 20% of all races.

Two aspects of Hot Wheels Unleashed enable players to show their creativity. The Livery Editor allows fans to personalise the appearance of their favourite vehicles by adding colours and shapes to Hot Wheels Originals and real manufacturer vehicles. More than one million liveries have been made, with a peak of over 20,000 submissions in a single day. The other is Track Builder, aimed towards gamers who wish to take control of the distinctive orange track and create their own circuits. Up to now, over 350,000 unique courses have been designed.

After a somewhat slow start due component supply issues, Sony announced at the beginning of the year that PS5 consoles should no longer be in short supply. We have seen this pan out, with the console sales skyrocketing over the past few months. Now, it has been revealed that last month represented the single best February for a PlayStation console in the history of the platform.

As reported by Matt Piscatellaand elaborated on by Benji-Sales via Twitter – “February 2023 PlayStation 5 sales were the highest EVER for any PlayStation console in the month of February [in the US],” clarifying that “Even PS2 and PS4 at their peaks never sold in February as much as PS5 just did”. This follows on from similar broken records both across the UK and the EU in recent months.

The PS5 is seemingly not going to slow down at all, and could in fact break further records this month, with Sony forecasting the biggest Q1 for any console in history. Of course, we will have to wait to see whether this pans out, but based on the PS5’s performance over the past few months it is not inconceivable at all.

The latest official numbers put the PS5 at having sold 32 million units since its launch in November 2020. As mentioned however, the past few years were plagued with supply issues leading to Sony not being able to keep up with demand. If the PS5 however continues to sell at its new current rate, the sky is truly the limit. It will be interesting to see what PlayStation’s Q1 numbers look like.

Way back in 2021 when Square Enix first started raising its game prices to match the new $70 standard that Sony ushered in with the PS5, I talked a little bit about the negative impact this may have on Forspoken. While the game was highly anticipated at the time, the $70 price tag posed a huge barrier to entry and could put gamers off from taking a chance on a brand-new IP. Now, Square Enix has confirmed that the game sold below expectations.

As part of its recent financial results presentation, Square Enix commented on Forspoken, saying that the game's sales were “lacklustre” and adding that the launch reviews were “challenging”. Early criticism of the game put the brakes on launch sales. Now, Square Enix worries that it won't hit its projected revenue targets for the year.

Forspoken released in February for PS5 and PC. While the game did find an audience, it wasn't enough to drown out the critics, who were disappointed with the game's overall performance and elements of the game's story and writing. In the aftermath of the launch, Square Enix made the decision to absorb Luminous Productions, with employees now due to be spread out over other projects at Square Enix's offices.

While Square Enix may take a hit during this financial year, things should turn around pretty quickly, as Final Fantasy 16 is due to launch later this year. Beyond that, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part Two is also on the way, albeit as a PS5 exclusive.

KitGuru Says: Forspoken may have disappointed but I must say, Octopath Traveller 2 has highly impressed me so far. I would love to see Square Enix continue to create HD-2D games and in my opinion, these are currently the best games the publisher produces.

The Forest ended up going on to become one of the most successful Early Access survival games on Steam. Now, the developers have followed it up with a highly anticipated sequel, Sons of the Forest, which has already gone on to sell 2 million copies just 24 hours after its Early Access launch on Steam.

Endnight Games shared the news via Twitter, where it also thanked players for their support. Besides having the 18th highest all-time peak player count on Steam, it's also currently one of the most-played titles on the platform, beating the likes of Hogwarts Legacy, Lost Ark, and Warzone 2.0.

For those who don't know what the game is about, this survival game follows in the footsteps of its predecessor. In this game, you play as someone who has been sent to rescue a missing millionaire on a secluded island. However, like in the first game, you end up in a cannibal-infested hellscape where you'll have to craft, build, and battle to survive alone or with friends. The title is currently in early access and is planned to stay in Early Access for another six to eight months, although Endnight Games is open to extending this further if needed.

Sons of the Forest is now available on Steam for £24.99. As of now, it's unknown if the game will release on other platforms.

Due to a whole host of factors, when the PlayStation 5 was first released in late 2020, it suffered from a great deal of stock shortages – putting a heavy hamper on the system’s sales. Finally, last month Sony claimed that 2023 would be the year when the PS5 no longer suffers from stock issues. It seems this is indeed the case, as January’s sales have shown Sony’s console up by over 200% year-on-year.

As reported by Christopher Dring of Gamesindustry.biz, “Across European markets in January, PS5 sales are up 202% compared with the year before”. Yes, 202% does mean that the console’s sales have more than tripled when compared to January of last year. Unsurprisingly of course, this meant that the PlayStation 5 took the top spot in terms of console sales for the month.

For comparison’s sake, the Nintendo Switch landed second place (seeing a drop of 11% compared to this time last year), though this makes some sense as the system is nearing its end-of-life.

Perhaps the more concerning stat pertained to the Xbox Series X and S, which saw a drop of 32% in sales compared to the same time last year. Of course, Microsoft no longer offers concrete global details on its console sales, and so this is the closest we will get to a comparison between systems.

When Sony said that more PS5s would be available this year, it seems as though they really meant it. It will be highly interesting to see how many units are sold by the end of the year.

Sales season has begun, with Black Friday discounts now live for a wide range of products. If you happen to be shopping around for a new monitor, then there are more than a few good deals to be found.

Philips and AOC have gone big for Black Friday this year with decent savings to be had across the board. The top-end Philips Gaming 32M1N5800A for instance includes a 32-inch 4K panel with 144Hz refresh rate, HDR and HDMI 2.1 connectivity for compatibility with new-gen consoles as well as PCs. For Black Friday, the monitor can be found for £130 less than its usual price on Amazon and Box.

The Philips 27M1N5200P offers 1080p/240Hz gaming. Typically, this monitor goes for over £300, but currently, it is down to just under £230 at Amazon, Box, ebuyer and CCL. If you'd prefer a 1440p option, the 27M1N5500ZA is down to £286.99 at Amazon, Box, ebuyer and CCL, with a 27-inch 1440p panel with 175Hz maximum refresh rate.

If a 24-inch monitor is what you are after, then the Philips 24G2SPU monitor delivers 1080p gaming at 165Hz for just £129.99, which is a steal for a budget gaming setup.

On the AOC side, you have even more great options, particularly for those looking to get a high refresh rate monitor without spending hundreds of pounds. If you want the biggest monitor you can get for your money, then the AOC Gaming C32G2ZE delivers a 32-inch panel with 240Hz refresh rate and has AMD FreeSync Premium for £218. 32-inches is pretty large for a FullHD monitor, so a 27-inch display may be better suited at this resolution. The AOC Gaming C27G2ZU has a 27-inch FHD/240Hz panel instead and costs just £178.99 at the moment.

If you are happy to sacrifice some refresh rate for a resolution boost, then the AOC Q27G2E/BK is worth a look, coming in at less than £190, it has a 27-inch QHD/155Hz display with 1ms response time, making it ideal for competitive gaming. You can get the FHD/240Hz version of this monitor for the same price on Amazon.

The final deal on our list today is the AOC Gaming 24G2SPU, a 24-inch FHD monitor with 165Hz refresh rate, coming in at £160.

Despite their MSRPs, the RTX 40 series graphics cards are selling relatively well. Currently, sales for the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 combined sit at around 160,000 units according to the latest analytics. Given that the RTX 4080 only just became available, fewer units have been sold, so there are around 130,000 RTX 4090s out in the wild, compared to 30,000 RTX 4080s.

The numbers come from Hassan Mujtaba, who also added that the RTX 4090 cards were “pretty much sold out at launch”, which can be considered a sign of success. On the other hand, it has almost passed a week since the release of the RTX 4080, but retailers still have them in stock. That suggests the RTX 4080 may not be as attractive as the flagship RTX 40 series GPU.

Overall, it seems buyers don't believe the RTX 4080 delivers the performance to justify the steep price Nvidia, retailers and manufacturers are asking for. It is also possible that a lot of buyers are holding off a bit longer to see what AMD brings to the table with its RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX graphics cards, both of which will hit the market at under £1000.

If Nvidia sees AMD winning market share in this price range, the company might be forced to rethink its pricing in order to compete. We need to see performance numbers first though, as well as board partner pricing for custom cards, as these can often be significantly more expensive than reference models.
