Battlefield 2042 has had a rough time since launch and at this point, EA has admitted that the game fell below expectations and refused to share sales numbers. Now that it is clear that the game needed more time in the oven, EA and DICE have made the decision to delay post-launch content until the Summer.

In a statement posted on Twitter, DICE said: “You’ve waited patiently to hear from us on what we’re doing to address the issues with Battlefield 2042 that you have told us about, and the direction you can expect to see us take in the months ahead. Today we are stating our team’s commitment to bring the game up to the highest standards that we all hold for the franchise.”

The statement continues “We’ve had to make some big decisions to ensure that our next set of updates can be focused on delivering these improvements, with the most substantial one being to move the release date of our first Season to early Summer”.

With that in mind, we will have to wait roughly six months for new post-launch content to begin rolling out. In the meantime, players can expect changes to the core game and plenty of bug fixes to polish the game up.

KitGuru Says: Recently on Steam we’ve noticed more players going back to Battlefield V, leaving Battlefield 2042 numbers to dwindle. What do you all make of the game in its current form? How do you feel about the lengthy delay for new content?

Battlefield 2042 has been out for just over a month now, but players could be waiting quite some time for the first post-launch content to drop. According to information obtained by dataminers, the game's ‘first season' of content is currently planned for March 2022.

Previously, EA and DICE had said that content updates for Battlefield 2042 would begin in early 2022. According to dataminer, Temporyal, this content roadmap will include “12 preseason weeks”, which will include weekly challenges for players to complete. Then, in March 2022, the first new map will debut as part of Battlefield 2042's first official season of content.

The name of this new map appears to be “Exposure”, which was previously known as “Ridge” under its working title. The map features a Canadian-US research facility base, seemingly known as the Black Ridge facility, based in the Canadian rockies.

Battlefield 2042 launched back in November following a rocky beta. At launch, many issues remained, but DICE has released several patches so far, but the studio is currently taking a break for the holidays, with plans to continue updates in January.

KitGuru Says: It sounds like DICE will be kicking 2022 off with a lengthy pre-season, followed by a new map and season 1 content in March. Have many of you been playing Battlefield 2042 since launch? How do you feel about the long wait for the first new map?

Infinity Ward has done well with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare so far and with paid map packs and loot boxes now out of the picture, the game is transitioning to a ‘seasonal’ model for content. The first season is now live, promising the ‘biggest free content drop' in Call of Duty history.

Plans for season one content were announced last week with a roadmap promising new maps, new Spec Ops missions, new weapons and new multiplayer modes. The rollout has now begun, bringing along new maps like Crash, Vacant, Shipment, Port, Cargo and Atrium. A new multiplayer mode called ‘Reinforce' is also here, as well as a new Gunfight mode called ‘On Site Procurement'. New Spec Ops missions include Bomb Squad, Grounded, Pitch Black and Just Reward.

All of this content is free for all players but those who pick up the season's battle pass will get a bit extra, including a new Operator called Mara, you also get slightly different tier rewards for levelling up with the paid battle pass compared to the free one.

Buying the Battle Pass bundle will let you skip 20 tiers out of the 100 available, so you can get some of those early rewards quickly too. Buying the battle pass at any point in the season will grant all previous rewards, so you won't miss out on anything if you decide to jump in later on.

The battle pass system replaces loot boxes and map packs for Call of Duty, which will hopefully be a fairer way of handling multiplayer. Many other competitive online games have had success with this model, so we will have to wait and see what feedback is generated over the next few weeks.

KitGuru Says: Are many of you still playing Modern Warfare's multiplayer regularly? Have you checked out any of the new Season One content yet?

Infinity Ward has done well with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare so far and with paid map packs and loot boxes now out of the picture, the game is transitioning to a ‘seasonal' model for content. There will be a battle pass, but if you don't want to pay, the Season One update will still be the ‘biggest free content drop' in Call of Duty history.

The Season One content roadmap has now been revealed, including new maps, multiplayer modes and Special Ops missions. The rollout will start next week, with all new content arriving simultaneously across platforms, part of Infinity Ward's effort to support full cross-play this year.

For new maps, we will be getting Crash, Vacant and Shipment all returning from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Port (Ground War), Cargo (Gunfight) and Atrium (Gunfight) are the other three maps on the way, although more will be added as Season One continues.

Reinforce is a new multiplayer mode being added, which is a hybrid of Domination and Search & Destroy with single lives and both teams competing for control of three flags. Gunfight is also getting a new mode called ‘On Site Procurement', which is a tactical 2v2 mode where players start off with just their fists and need to gather equipment over the course of the match. Infected is another multiplayer mode joining the list, which is pretty self-explanatory. Just as with maps, there will also be more modes over the course of the season.

Finally, Bomb Squad, Grounded, Pitch Black and Just Reward are all missions coming to Spec Ops, with more coming over the next few months. Modern Warfare's first season of content kicks off on the 3rd of December and will hopefully be followed up by equally impressive content drops in future seasons.

With the latest Hitman game, IO Interactive set out to create an episodic game with regularly updated content. This was largely achieved through ‘Elusive Targets' and for those who have been keeping up, there is going to be one last target to take down later this month, bringing Hitman Season One to a close.

Hitman's final Elusive Target for this season is arriving on Friday the 14th of July and will be available for ten days. The target is called ‘The Entertainer' and you will find him roaming around Marrakesh.

You will have two objectives: kill the target and retrieve his client list. Completing the event will unlock new outfits for Agent 47. If you complete it normally, you will obtain the ‘Summer suit with gloves' and if you manage to achieve the Silent Assassin ranking, you will receive The Terminus suit. To achieve the Silent Assassin rank you need to get through the level without alerting anyone or leaving bodies behind, you also need to ensure that you only take down the target and nobody else.

This will bring Season One of Hitman content to a close. However, there will likely be a season two, as IO Interactive has gone independent after splitting from Square Enix. The studio also secured ownership of the Hitman IP.

KitGuru Says: While a lot of people were unsure about the idea of an ‘episodic Hitman', looking back on it, I think the developers did a good job. There was fresh content on a regular basis and each full episode was highly replayable. Did any of you play through the latest Hitman?

Blizzard's approach to competitive play in Overwatch is a little different to other games. The competitive mode runs in seasons, during which players compete to reach the top 500 player list, if you break into the list at any time during the season, you get a unique player icon and animated spray. The first competitive season has been going for a little while now but it will be coming to a close on the 17th of August.

From there, Blizzard will be taking a two week break, during which competitive mode will be closed off. Then on the 6th of September, the second season of Overwatch will kick off.

So what happens to ranks? When the first season ends, your skill ranking will be converted into ‘Competitive Points' (CP), those that have a skill rank of 65 or over will get the maximum 300 CP reward, these point handouts are broken down depending on rank. You can see the skill rank to CP conversion breakdown in Blizzard's own blog post.

During the two week break between competitive seasons, Blizzard will be working on balancing changes and implementing feedback.

KitGuru Says: I didn't play much competitive Overwatch this season but I know quite a few people that did. Did any of you guys dedicate yourselves to competitive play? What was your best rank?

Rocket League, one of the biggest break out successes of 2015, has been running its first season of ranked play for several months now, with no initial announcement about how long it would be. Well now we know, roughly. Psyonix' first update of 2016 will bring an end to Season one and there will be a few rewards for those that took part.

Although the launch date is stated as coming at some point in February, rather than on a specific date, it is clear that there isn't much time left to raise your rank up if you want to finish strong. That's important too, as there will be special rewards for those that achieved certain ranks.

If you achieved Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum ranks during this first season, you'll receive a fancy looking crown, finished in your respective ranking's metallic colour. It will be based on your highest earned rank however, so don't feel you need to achieve your best in every single category of play.

While this update will bring an end to Season One though, it will also look to the future, with a big change over how cosmetic items work. Instilling a bit of that gotta' catch'em all mechanic that RPG players can't quite quit, Psyonix will be changing items so that they have a commonality rank. Uncommon, Premium, Limited and other categories will be put in place to make it obvious which items are more unlikely to be used by other players.

There will also be a new “Uncommon” category which will see certain items only unlocked in online games, so no more offline grinding to get all the new gear after a patch.

KitGuru Says: It's been amazing watching the average level of play in Rocket League evolve over the past six months. While once you could get by with a couple of slow aerials a game, now if you let a ball bounce once, you're probably going to lose.
