There is a new Nvidia Game Ready driver rolling out but this time around it contains a little more than optimisations. There is a new feature debuting for Nvidia ShadowPlay called Highlights, which will automatically capture ‘highlight' moments during gameplay in supported games. Nvidia has teamed up with Bosskey Productions to make Lawbreakers the first game to support this new feature.

The latest Nvidia Game Ready driver is now rolling out and aims to provide the best day-one experience for Lawbreakers, Eve: Valkyrie's new Ultra graphics upgrade, Fortnite, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and the official launch version of Ark: Survival Evolved, which leaves Early Access soon.

Aside from that, ShadowPlay Highlights will be included in drivers from this point onwards. If any of you have experience with the Xbox One, the Highlight system here is very similar. Whenever an achievement is unlocked, or when a specific in-game feat is achieved (like a kill streak or something), a video clip or screenshot will automatically be recorded and saved so that you can share that moment with the world.

Finally, Nvidia's Ansel screenshot tool will now be supported in Ark: Survival Evolved as well as in Dark and Light. If you need a refresher on what Ansel is and how to use it, you can check out our guide, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Will any of you be grabbing one of the game's on this list? What do you think of the new ShadowPlay Highlights feature?

While the GTX 1080 Ti was of course the main announcement from Nvidia's event yesterday, we were also briefed on a few other announcements throughout the day that you might have missed. Here we give you the low-down on some of the highlight announcements stretching beyond the GTX 1080Ti.

In-case you missed our initial coverage of the GTX 1080Ti launch, you can find all of the details on that over HERE. This article is all about the other key announcements you might have missed.

Let's start with the GTX 1080 – Jen-Hsun of Nvidia announced a $100 price-cut for the GTX 1080. This will certainly please those looking for a high-performance card but whose wallets can't quite stretch to meet the $699 1080 Ti price-tag. You can read our full review of the GTX 1080 over HERE.

Next up, this announcement concerns the GTX 1080 and GTX 1060 cards – Nvidia have announced that both these cards will be getting a new, overclocked SKU. Essentially, with the GTX 1080 Ti, Nvidia is using ‘next-gen', faster GDDR5X memory from Micron. However, they also want to make sure the GTX 1080 and 1060 benefit from the memory improvements, too. This means there will now be a 1080 model with 11Gbps GDDR5X memory (1Gbps faster than the original model), while there will also be a 1060 6GB SKU with 9Gbps GDDR5 memory, another 1Gbps increase over the original.

The next announcement will be good news for those who like to record their gameplay – Shadowplay is getting a new ‘highlights' feature. Essentially, where devs support it, Shadowplay will now be able to recognise key moments in a game – for example, a double or triple-kill. Shadowplay then automatically saves these key moments as ‘highlights' – which you can edit and upload to your favourite social media, all while staying in-game. This new feature will debut in LawBreakers, a 5v5 FPS from Boss Key Productions. For a quick example of this feature, check out the video above!

Lastly, I want to touch on Ansel – Nvidia's technology which allows you to capture beautiful in-game photos in high-detail. Nvidia announced that they are making Ansel available to all developers via a public SDK library – meaning developers can now implement the feature into their game without having to partner with Nvidia to do so. Given there have been 200,000 Ansel photos taken in The Witcher 3 alone, Ansel looks set to continue being a popular feature in many games to come.

KitGuru says: These are just a few key but smaller announcements that you might have missed from the GTX 1080 Ti launch last night. Let us know what you think in the comments!

Nvidia is giving the GeForce Experience a pretty significant update soon, beefing up two of the software's big features, along with how it handles driver updates. For a start, early adopters of 4K displays will soon be able to stream their games in 4K at 60 frames per second along with 5.1 surround sound. Previously the GameStream feature was limited to 1080p but since the new Nvidia Shield Android TV console supports 4K, it was time to up the ante.

Obviously to stream at 4K, even over your local network, you will need a pretty decent network set up to handle the bandwidth so keep that in mind. Additionally, only high-end GTX 900-series GPUs will support 4K streaming, those still using Kepler architecture won't have support for this functionality.

Moving on from local streaming to live streaming streaming. The GeForce Experience ShadowPlay feature is getting another upgrade. Previously, you could only stream to Twitch at 720p but from now on, you will be able to bump that up to 1080p at 60 frames per second. A maximum bit rate of 9Mbps is also supported but it should be noted that Twitch only allows users to stream at 3.5 Mbps to ensure a smooth experience across the site. You will also be able to stream directly to YouTube Gaming as well though, which does support up to 9Mbps streams.

Finally, there are changes being made to how driver updates are handled through the GeForce Experience software. Starting in December, Nvidia will require GeForce Experience registration for Game Ready driver updates, according to the company's own research over 90% of driver installs are already performed through the software. So if you are a heavy gamer that relies on those day one driver updates for specific titles, you will need to create a GeForce Experience account to continue downloading them as soon as they become available.

There will still be driver updates posted to Nvidia's website, though these will be quarterly releases, for bug fixes and such. This way, non-gamers, or those who simply don't play the latest titles at launch won't get bombarded with Game Ready driver updates.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Nvidia is making quite a few significant updates here. How do you guys feel about the idea of putting Game Ready drivers behind a registration wall? It's not really the sort of thing that bothers me personally but I know some people prefer to grab drivers from the Nvidia website rather than use the GeForce Experience.

Mad Max has run in to a string of bad luck this past week. The game was looked on unfavourably by critics and to make matters worse, its release date was completely overshadowed by Metal Gear Solid V. However, we still think the game is worth looking at, especially since this isn't your standard movie tie-in affair, in-fact Mad Max was developed by Avalanche Studios, which has a very good reputation thanks to the Just Cause series.

Mad Max is published by Warner Bros though and from a PC gamer's point of view, it really is hard to not be a bit sceptical, especially on the back of Arkham Knight, which still has one more patch to go before being fully fixed. So how does the PC version of Mad Max hold up? Let's find out…

To kick things off, let's take a good look at the graphics options menu. It is clear that Avalanche Studios know what they are doing on the PC at this point. Just Cause 2 received a lot of support from the studio on the PC so this shouldn't be too surprising. Here in Mad Max, we have all of the options you could want.

However, a stellar options menu isn't much good if it isn't followed up with stellar performance. Fortunately, Mad Max is one of the best PC releases this year as far as optimization goes. I ran all of my testing on my own personal gaming system, featuring an Intel Core i7 5820K, 16GB of RAM and a GTX 980Ti. I'm not officially part of the KitGuru hardware squad, so I don't have access to the trove of GPUs you would normally find in a typical review here.

For our tests here today, I will be running the game at 1080p, 1440p and 4K. Now 4K is still a tough resolution to drive for a single GPU, even one as high-end as the 980Ti. Unfortunately, Mad Max doesn't come with a built-in benchmarking utility, so you are going to have to take my word for a lot of this.

2015-09-09_00014

At 1080p, the GTX 980Ti is obviously overkill, with frame rates often hovering at the 150 fps mark at maximum detail settings. While I don't have any lower end GPUs on hand to test, by these results, I am fairly confident that a much lower end PC would be able to handle this game perfectly fine at this resolution.

2015-09-09_00007

At 1440p, Mad Max continues to impress, with a solid frame rate, once again, staying well above 100 frames per second, usually hovering around the 120 mark even while driving, which tends to be where the frame rate takes the biggest hit.

Now for the final test: 4K. Normally, 3840×2160 is a really difficult resolution for a single GPU to drive in games. However, Avalanche Studios have outdone themselves as far as optimization goes as my single GTX 980Ti managed to hold its own with a steady 60 frames per second. While driving, things would dip in to the 50's but during combat and regular gameplay, 60 frames per second was the norm.

So how did Avalanche Studios get the game running so well? When evaluating Metal Gear Solid V last week, I noticed that the texture quality was fairly average, with clothing and hair quality taking the biggest hits in terms of fidelity. However, in the case of Mad Max, everything looks highly detailed, so much so that I'm finding it hard to fault the game. I would consider Mad Max as something of a graphical show piece.

That said, the open world is pretty barren for the most part with small enemy camps dotted around the map. The game is set in an apocalyptic desert after all. Unfortunately, this also has an effect on exploration as the world itself is a barren wasteland, so there isn't a ton to see, though there is a ton to do, with plenty of activities and side missions to aid the main story.

To sum up, Avalanche Studios has done a tremendous job with the PC version of Mad Max. If you are looking for an open world title to sink some hours in to, then this game is worth a shot There is plenty going on in the game so getting your money's worth shouldn't be too difficult. Granted, if you are sick of the ‘Arkham style' combat system or post apocalyptic settings then you may want to look elsewhere.

KitGuru Says: I've sunk several hours in to Mad Max so far and I have been enjoying it more than I thought I would. Avalanche Studios certainly know how to make a decent PC game. Have any of you bought Mad Max on the PC yet? Would you like to see us do more of these PC port focussed articles in the future?

The eagerly anticipated GeForce Experience 1.8.1 has just been released, bringing live Twitch Streaming to Shadowplay, meaning you can now broadcast your gameplay and commentary live to gamers worldwide without the need for any additional game capture hardware or software.

As far as frame rates go, there will still be minimal impact while using Shadowplay to stream to Twitch thanks to the H.264 hardware encoder which comes built in to all GPU's from the 600 and 700 series. Your frame rate won't be capped either, allowing you to stream at your PC's full potential.

Brooke Van Dusen, Director of Business Development at Twitch had a few words to say:

“Broadcasting to Twitch has become an integral part of the gaming experience. We're extremely excited to work with NVIDIA to make Twitch live streaming available to GeForce Experience users. ShadowPlay is revolutionary, providing high quality streams with almost no noticeable performance impact for our users.”

Earlier this month Nvidia had updated the Geforce Experience to version 1.8 which removed some restrictions that Windows 7 users had, like being limited to one 3.8GB file. The 1.8 update also allows for multi source audio recording which sets things up nicely for people doing commentaries over gameplay.

You can download the new GeForce Experience here.

KitGuru Says: Do we have many Twitch streamers in the audience? Let us know how this new update works for you.
