The discourse surrounding the Silent Hill 2 Remake has been somewhat mixed. While initial excitement levels were quite high, the upcoming game recently received criticism for a poor showing of its ‘combat reveal trailer’. It looks like we will be finding out sooner rather than later whether the remake will live up to the original, as Silent Hill 2 Remake has now been rated in Korea.

As shared by Twitter user Andrew Marmo, the South Korean Ratings Board recently published a listing for Silent Hill 2’s Remake, suggesting that the game could be arriving sooner than we think.

While a game getting rated isn’t necessarily an indicator of its imminent release, the Korean Ratings Board has had a history of listing upcoming games shortly before their announcement/release.

In development by Bloober Team, the Silent Hill 2 Remake has yet to officially get a solid release date nor a release window. That said, various promotional pieces have indicated that it is likely set to arrive this year. This latest update to the ratings board seems to corroborate this fact – so we will have to wait and see.

During the most recent PlayStation State of Play, the long awaited and much-anticipated Silent Hill 2 Remake was finally shown off properly for the first time. Unfortunately, fans took immediate note of the game’s tonal and gameplay shift when compared to the PS2 original. It seems as though this disparity is more of a function of the trailer and not the game itself, with Bloober Team claiming that the trailer failed to “capture the spirit of the game.”

Following the release of the ‘Silent Hill 2 – Combat Reveal Trailer’ Bloober Team’s co-founder and CEO Peter Babieno sat down with inwestorzy.tv to discuss reactions to the gameplay, revealing (as translated by Eurogamer) that Bloober have no say in the game’s marketing and that the Konami-created trailer is “not the spirit of what used to be, or what we're creating now,” adding that they are trying to “fully capture this romantic vision of a game that debuted 22 years ago.”

According to Babieno, when players get to see the “real game” they will “judge it in a completely different way.”

In going to the YouTube page for the Silent Hill 2 combat reveal trailer, it is clear that fans of the series are less-than-enthused by what was shown off, with some of the top comments including statements such as “That QTE prompt was the scariest thing in the trailer…” and “The nurse vaulting over the wall like it's a tactical shooter is hilarious”. Hopefully Bloober Team are correct in that the trailer is a misrepresentation of the game. We will have to wait and see.

SILENT HILL: The Short Message released at the tail end of January as a free horror experience not too dissimilar to Hideo Kojima’s now-iconic PT. While reception surrounding the short experience is nowhere near the level of Kojima’s PT, fans have been generally receptive to the title – having now surpassed 2 million downloads.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Japanese Silent Hill page revealed that since its release on the 31st of January, SILENT HILL: The Short Message has surpassed 2 million downloads.

Like with PT, The Short Message is exclusive to PlayStation (PS5 in this case), and so while the barrier to entry is incredibly low – being a free experience – its success is nonetheless notable.

After the cancellation of PT almost a decade ago now, the Silent Hill franchise went…silent, with no new entries to speak of. This is finally changing with the likes of Silent Hill: Ascension and the aforementioned Short Message – as well as multiple future SH titles currently in development.

While The Short Message (and Ascension in particular) have failed to live up to the franchise’s legacy, at least they are trying – and seeing some success with it.

After going a literal decade without any new Silent Hill games, 2022 saw Konami finally unveil a bunch of projects in the works. One of the most exciting was undoubtedly the remake of the classic Silent Hill 2. In development by horror aficionados Bloober Team, it seems as though the title is gearing up to launch some time this year.

Releasing a promotional trailer for the PlayStation 5 in 2024, Sony advertised a bunch of games which are seemingly planned to release this year. Amongst the many already-confirmed 2024 releases, the trailer curiously includes footage from the Silent Hill 2 Remake.

While this does not necessarily mean that the game will definitely be released this year, the game is clearly internally targeting a 2024 launch.

So far we have seen very little from the game. That being said, in March of last year Bloober Team’s co-founder and CEO Piotr Babieno spoke on its progress, saying:

“Silent Hill 2 is technically ready. It does not mean that the game is finished, but we are close. However, the issue of the release schedule lies with our partners, what the promotion will look like and when the title will debut is not directly in our hands.”

Considering the fact that Silent Hill 2’s Remake has technically been ‘ready’ for many months now, it makes sense that 2024 would be the year that Silent Hill finally makes its grand return – 10 years after the release of the now-iconic PT.

After moving away from the video games industry in favour of pursuing other money-making avenues, Konami has slowly but surely returned to game development – primarily partnering with external studios to work on the publisher’s IP. That said, Konami has now announced that they have opened up a new in-house dev team known as the ‘Silent Production Team.’

As reported by ResetEra user ‘Lucia’, Konami’s careers Twitter account published a post announcing the formation of this new internal team, saying (as translated by Google):

“The ‘Silent Production Team’ is recruiting artists, planners, engineers, and project managers. Please join us in this work, which has many fans overseas! A chance to be involved in game production in a cutting-edge development environment.”

In going to the company’s recruitment page, a few more details can be discerned. While the company did not state what the purpose of this new team is, the name alone suggests that it is to do with the Silent Hill IP. Adding proof to this, as part of a Q&A released, Konami explicitly stated that:

“The Silent Hill production team has many people who like action games and horror games , as well as people who like foreign dramas and movies that deal with serious themes , so those people will be able to work on a work that is very compatible with them. Even those who like works with a heavy atmosphere and heavy themes will be able to fully unleash their maniacal sensibilities.”

Currently, the publisher has announced a number of projects in the Silent Hill universe, including a remake of Silent Hill 2 (by Bloober Team); Silent Hill Townfall (from Annapurna Interactive); Silent Hill F and Silent Hill The Short Message.

Having a core team which would presumably offer creative input into the world, lore and overall trajectory of the Silent Hill franchise could help lend a sense of cohesion for the revived franchise. We will have to wait and see what becomes of this new team.

After spending many years dormant, Konami has started to revitalise the Silent Hill franchise, with multiple projects currently in the works. While it was previously announced that a remake of the PS2 classic Silent Hill 2 is in the works, it would appear as though the publisher in fact has multiple Silent Hill remakes planned.

As part of the company’s quarterly earnings report (and shared by VGC), Konami offered an update on its in-development titles. First, in discussing the MGS3: Snake Eater remake, they stated:

“As for ongoing efforts, we are working diligently on Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, which faithfully recreates the story, characters, and game design of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, one of the most beloved entries in the Metal Gear series, and updates its graphical style to modern graphics for the current generation.”

More interestingly, the publisher seemed to let slip that multiple Silent Hill remakes are currently in the works, saying “…as well as remakes and completely new entries in the Silent Hill series, which gained popularity as a psychological horror game.”

Currently, Konami has only officially announced a single Silent Hill remake – that being Silent Hill 2 in partnership with Bloober Team. Unless the plurality of the word ‘remakes’ was spoken in error, it seems as though Konami has a lot of cooks in the kitchen working on Silent Hill remakes. It will be interesting to see which entry is set to get the remake treatment; perhaps the original Silent Hill?

After going a literal decade without any new Silent Hill games, last year saw Konami finally unveil a bunch of projects in the works. One of the most exciting was undoubtedly the remake of the classic Silent Hill 2. Said to be “close to finished” back in March, it seems as though the remake’s release date has now leaked.

As discovered by ResetEra user ‘Angie’ the Australian retailer Gorillagaming recently updated its Silent Hill 2 Remake page to include both a price and supposed release date. According to the site, Silent Hill 2 will cost $89 Australian Dollars, which translates roughly to $60 USD – suggesting that it hopefully will not be a $70 title.

Perhaps even more interesting than Silent Hill 2’s potential price is its release date. According to Gorillagaming, the remake is set to arrive on the 29th of September; just in time for the Halloween season.

As mentioned, back in March Bloober Team co-founder and CEO Piotr Babieno offered an update on development, saying “Silent Hill 2 is technically ready. It does not mean that the game is finished, but we are close. However, the issue of the release schedule lies with our partners, what the promotion will look like and when the title will debut is not directly in our hands”. If what Babieno said was true, then this September release date could very well be legit. We will have to wait and see.

One of the most exciting was undoubtedly the remake of the classic Silent Hill 2. In development by horror aficionados Bloober Team, the remake is said to be “close to finished.”

In a recent interview conducted by Polish publication Bankier.pl (and translated by ResetEra user ‘Angie’), Bloober Team co-founder and CEO Piotr Babieno, spoke on the current status of the much-anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake, stating that:

“Silent Hill 2 is technically ready. It does not mean that the game is finished, but we are close. However, the issue of the release schedule lies with our partners, what the promotion will look like and when the title will debut is not directly in our hands.”

Babieno also discussed the team’s change in direction with regards to how their games are presented, saying “The new strategy is an evolution, not a revolution from the Bloober 2.0 strategy. We are slowly moving away from environmental storytelling in favor of games that will be based on mechanics recognizable to a wide consumer.”

As mentioned, many of Bloober Team’s games have focused primarily on environmental storytelling, with their earlier titles in particular offering relatively little in the way of gameplay. This has been changing more with each new release, and so it is encouraging to see that the team will be sticking close to the original Silent Hill 2’s game-feel.

What’s more, considering the fact that the remake was only announced back in October of last year, it is exciting to see that the game is already nearing completion.

Late last year Konami broke its years of ‘silence’ on the publisher’s Silent Hill gaming franchise, announcing a bunch of new video game projects as well as revealing that they are once again tackling a Silent Hill horror film. Little was known at the time, though we now have information on the plot, cast and more.

As reported by Deadline, both the plot and cast for the upcoming ‘Return to Silent Hill’ has now been revealed, with Jeremy Irvine and Hannah Emily Anderson starring as the film’s leads. Irvine is perhaps best known for his work on War Horse, as well as his penchant for engaging in some method acting. Anderson meanwhile is no stranger to horror productions, having been involved in the likes of Jigsaw, Dark Nature and the Purge TV show.

It was already known that Return to Silent Hill would be inspired by the second game in the series, but we now have a more concrete plot summary, with it reading as follows:

“The film will follow James (Irvine), a man broken after being separated from his one true love (Anderson). When a mysterious letter calls him back to Silent Hill in search of her, he finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil. As James descends deeper into the darkness, he encounters terrifying figures both familiar and new and begins to question his own sanity as he struggles to make sense of reality and hold on long enough to save his lost love.”

In an interesting move, Return to Silent Hill will be bringing back Christophe Gans who directed the very first Silent Hill film all the way back in 2006. While a decent film for its time, hopefully Return to Silent Hill manages to continue the recent trajectory of video game adaptations actually being genuinely good. We will have to wait and see when the film releases some time in the unknown future.

Just as promised, last night Konami went live with its Silent Hill Transmission stream, revealing multiple new projects in the works. There have been rumours swirling around Silent Hill's revival since 2020, and it seems some of those leaks were true. Konami has multiple third-party teams working on Silent Hill games, in addition to a new film.

For starters, as previous leaks predicted, Blooper Team is indeed working on a Silent Hill game. The horror-focused studio behind The Medium and The Blair Witch Project is now working on a Silent Hill 2 remake, which will release on PS5 as a console exclusive, as well as PC. The remake is being built with Unreal Engine 5, utilising new techniques to enhance lighting and other details. The remake will also have a reworked combat system, and all loading screens are being removed to make it a seamless experience.

In addition to the Silent Hill 2 Remake, there is a new film being made based on the second game in the series, to be directed by Christophe Gans, who also directed the 2006 Silent Hill film.

Annapurna Interactive and Scottish studio ‘NoCode' have also teamed up with Konami on a new Silent Hill project. Silent Hill Townfall is a brand new game in the franchise, and judging by the small teaser shown on the stream, it will be a first-person horror game. We'll have to wait a bit longer to really find out what this game will be.

One of the most interesting projects announced is Silent Hill Ascension. Rather than being a typical game, this is being pitched as an interactive series created by Genvid Entertainment. Slated for a 2023 release, Ascension will have fans tuning into a live and real-time adventure, where they can watch and vote on decisions.

Finally, we have Silent Hill F, from the same studio behind Resident Evil Re:Verse – NeoBards, a team based in Taiwan. This game will be an asymmetrical multiplayer title, with some players acting as survivors, and one player acting as the villain. The game will be set in 1960s Japan and will have its story penned by a famous Japanese horror writer.

That was all the information Konami had to share for now, but expect plenty more Silent Hill news in 2023, as all of these games move closer to launch.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: If all of these studios can deliver compelling twists on the Silent Hill franchise, then this could be pretty big for Konami. While Ascension isn't a traditional game, it does seem like an interesting idea, particularly nowadays, where streaming entertainment is extremely prevalent. Blooper's Silent Hill 2 Remake is likely still a couple of years away.

Ever since the much-anticipated Silent Hills was unceremoniously cancelled by Konami back in 2015, fans have been eagerly awaiting the franchise’s return. After years of rumours and speculation Konami has finally broken its silence, announcing that a new Silent Hill game will be revealed later this week.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the official Silent Hill account tweeted “In your restless dreams, do you see that town? The latest updates for the SILENT HILL series, will be revealed during the #SILENTHILL Transmission on Wednesday, October 19th, at 2:00 PM. PDT [10 PM UK Time].”

As mentioned, ever since Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro’s Silent Hills game was cancelled by Konami, we have seen little to nothing from the franchise officially. That’s why the return of Silent Hill after so long is highly exciting.

While there have been plenty of leaks and rumours (including potential plot details, the studios working on Silent Hill and more), the official announcement being mere days away means that all will soon be revealed.

Over the past year, reports have insisted that Konami has multiple Silent Hill games in development as part of an effort to revive a few key video game franchises. Now, we may have our first legitimate piece of evidence, as South Korea's game rating committee has listed an unannounced Silent Hill project.

As reported by Gematsu, the listing reveals ‘Silent Hill: The Short Message', which is going to be published by UNIANA, a company that works with Konami on publishing games in South Korea.

Unfortunately, the listing reveals little more. There are no platforms listed, and no actual details about the game or its release were included aside from the title. The title itself could indicate a teaser demo, similar to PT, rather than a full game. It could also be a hint at the episodic Silent Hill game that is reportedly in development.

Back in May, it was claimed that Blooper Team is working on a remake of Silent Hill 2, while another studio is working on an episodic Silent Hill project.

The Tokyo Game Show is coming up in just a few weeks time and the schedule has now been revealed. Interestingly, Konami will have a 45-minute segment of the show, in which it will announce a new game.

Konami's interest in getting back into video game development and reviving dormant IPs has been well documented in leaks and rumours over the past year. It has been claimed that Konami is currently has new Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania and Silent Hill games in the works across multiple studios, including some third-party developers.

While these rumoured titles are obvious contenders for a TGS reveal, but according to a source speaking with VGC, the reveal won't be quite that big. According to their publishing source, this is likely going to be an announcement of a smaller project.

The Tokyo Game Show begins on the 15th of September. Konami's reveal will be taking place on the 16th. Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Konami recently announced plans make a ton of classic games available once again, which garnered a pretty good reception. Could we be heading into the Konami redemption arc?

As a publisher, Konami has taken many steps away from the limelight, especially when it comes to big budget releases. While the number of new games being created remains rather small (for now), the publisher has continued to dip its toes back into the industry – the latest move which will see dozens of old Konami games brought back for sale.

Konami owns some of the most iconic franchises in gaming, from Metal Gear Solid, to Castlevania to Bomberman and so much more. The publisher previously announced that the Metal Gear Solid games – which were delisted and so unavailable for purchase – would be coming back to digital storefronts at some point in the future,

Now, the publisher has announced that a whole host of other games are also set to be brought back, with the official Konami shop taking to both Twitter and Instagram to say:

“ATTENTION KONAMI FANS! For the first time ever, all the classic games you love and the new games you’re waiting for are coming to the Official #Konami Shop as Steam Digital Downloads! 23 Games. 18 DLCs. Are you ready to play?”

This was then followed up by a number of hashtags, giving fans a hint at some of the older franchises set to come back, namely: Castlevania, Silent Hill, Bomberman, GetsuFumaDen, Metal Gear and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – to name a selection.

Konami has slowly but surely been inching itself back into the video games industry. Hopefully this latest move is eventually followed by a whole host of brand new games. We will have to wait and see.

For years now we have been hearing leaks and rumours surrounding the yet-to-be-announced Silent Hill franchise revival, though publisher Konami has remained entirely silent on the matter. That being said, according to one leaker, we will finally see Silent Hill officially announced at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show.

This rumour comes from well-known leaker DuskGolem, who has in the past discussed the elusive Silent Hill. According to DuskGolem, though admittedly speculation, they strongly believe that Tokyo Game Show will be the place and time when we might finally see the return of Silent Hill, saying:

“literally every company I know is involved with Silent Hill is present at the next Tokyo Game Show, for the first time all together at once, and it includes companies who it's their first ever TGS, just call me a tad suspicious.”

Speculation aside, DuskGolem later offered some updated information regarding the game’s developmental structure, stating that “Sony's still involved” in some capacity as well as the fact that:

“this is developed by more than one studio, it's a joint production. What I will say is that Masahiro Ito [Silent Hill 2’s director] is 100% working on this, I have some art from him from this project to prove it but I'll share that later as most of the art shows maybe a bit too much.”

Tokyo Game Show is taking place from the 15th to the 18th of September, meaning that if DuskGolem is correct, then we don't have too much longer to wait to finally find out what the future of Silent Hill is.

In 2016 Bloober Team released Layers of Fear, a psychological horror game which helped put the Polish video game studio on the map. Since then, the team have worked on all manner of games, from a sequel (Layers of Fear 2) to a licensed game (Blair Witch) to a brand new IP (The Medium). Now, the team is going back to its roots, announcing ‘Layers of Fears’.

Layers of Fears is the 3rd entry in the psychological horror franchise created and developed by Bloober Team. Releasing in Early 2023 for PS5, Series X|S and PC, the game will have you “Face spine-chilling madness that extends over generations. Live through indescribable terrors as artists obsessed with their crafts beyond reason and sanity. Layers of Fears is a psychedelic horror chronicle for those who seek mature stories with hidden meanings.”

For some, Bloober Teams games are hit and miss; for others, each game manages to hit the perfect sweet spot. Regardless of where you land on this scale, there is no denying that Layers of Fears looks to be the most visually impressive and high budget game to come from the studio. This is undoubtedly aided by the use of Unreal Engine 5, supporting “Ray Tracing, HDR effect, 4K resolution, and [making] use of the Lumen system to offer the most immersive and visceral horror experience.”

Bloober Team is rumoured to be working on a Silent Hill game, and so all eyes will be on Layers of Fears to see whether the studio has the chops to help revive the long-dormant survival horror franchise. We will have to wait and see.

Recently we reported that a new rumour has surfaced claiming that horror studio Bloober Team have been tasked with remaking the classic survival horror game Silent Hill 2. This seems to be but one cog in a much larger plan by Konami for a franchise revival, with multiple new Silent Hill projects said to be in the works.

As mentioned, just days ago a report surfaced claiming that Bloober Team is working on a remake of the classic survival horror game Silent Hill 2 which will feature reworked puzzles, new endings and will be a timed PlayStation exclusive.

This has since been corroborated by VGC, with the report also offering additional information on publisher Konami’s plans. According to VGC, on top of the reworked puzzles and new endings, the Silent Hill 2 remake from Bloober Team will include reworked AI and animations – two things which are not always guaranteed with a remake.

The Silent Hill name is seemingly prepping for a major return however, as according to VGC, not only is the aforementioned Silent Hill 2 remake in development, but so is a mainline sequel. Very little is known about this currently, though VGC did postulate that the studio tasked with this may be Japanese.

The other Silent Hill project said to be in development is reportedly a “smaller, episodic series of short stories” coming from Annapurna Interactive. Of course, nothing is official until confirmed by Konami themselves; even then – as we saw with PT – plans change and things can get canceled. That being said, after so many years without anything Silent Hill related, it is exciting to see that the drought might soon be over.

For years now we have been hearing MANY contradictory rumours surrounding a potential remake of the classic PS1 horror game Silent Hill. Independently of these rumours, a new leak has sprung up suggesting that Polish studio Bloober Team is working on a remake of Silent Hill’s sequel: Silent Hill 2.

Earlier today we reported that Bloober Team has entered a new “significant license and distribution agreement with Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC,” the details of which were not shared – though some fans think this may be related to PlayStation Plus.

Since then, industry insider NateTheHate took to Twitter to claim that Bloober Team is working on a remake of the classic survival horror game Silent Hill 2. Additionally, this remake will reportedly feature reworked puzzles and new endings. The final detail revealed by Nate was the fact that this game will supposedly be a timed PlayStation exclusive.`

The Silent Hill IP has been essentially dead since the cancellation of the much-anticipated ‘Silent Hills’ from Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro. Publisher Konami has stayed silent during this time, meaning that even though multiple Silent Hill projects are said to be in the works, we will not know for sure until Konami themselves confirm it.

For months now, there have been persistent rumours that a new Silent Hill game is in development, possibly multiple. Now, new leaks have come to light showing concept art for a new Silent Hill game, and thanks to a swift DMCA claim from Konami, we know the leak was likely real.

DuskGolem, a leaker who previously has a solid track record with Resident Evil leaks, took to Twitter last night to share several newly obtained images showing concept art for a new Silent Hill game. The leaker also claims that characters like Anita and Maya will return, and there may be some ARG elements to the game, including the ability to send text messages to your phone. Interestingly, this claim about text messages in the new Silent Hill has been made before by current Sony Santa Monica writer, Alanah Pearce.

The leaked images in question were subject to a DMCA claim from Konami within hours of the tweets going live, seemingly a direct response to try and supress the leak before it got too much attention. Unfortunately, the opposite has happened, as the DMCA claim has essentially ‘confirmed' the leak in the eyes of many.

These specific pieces of concept art were reportedly from 2020, but the leaker did not mention which studio was working on the game. While the original tweet no longer contains the images, they have been saved and shared elsewhere, including the resetera forums.

Konami isn't as much of a force in the video game world as it once was, with the publisher largely focusing on other business areas nowadays. With that in mind, it might not come as a surprise that the publisher let the domain lapse for the official Silent Hill website, and sure enough, a fan has swiftly picked it up.

Konami's official Silent Hill website, silenthill.com, has been taken over by a fan after Konami failed to renew the domain. Now, the website leads to a screenshot of a tweet from Silent Hill 2 art director, Masahiro Ito, in which expresses regret for designing Pyramid Head:.

As PCGamer points out, this is not the first time that this has happened. Konami didn't renew its registration for silenthill.com in December 2019. The domain was later spotted on sale for roughly $10,000 USD, but Konami was quick to pick it back up itself. This time around, Konami wasn't quick enough and now the domain sits in the hands of one fan.

Konami may want to re-purchase the domain again soon in the future though, as rumours have been swirling around a Silent Hill revival.

KitGuru Says: As fun as this is to see, it won't last long. Eventually, Konami will reacquire the domain and set the official website back up, especially if there is a new game currently in development.

The situation surrounding Hideo Kojima’s next project has been long discussed and highly contradictory. First there were claims that he was making a PlayStation game, then an Xbox game, then Silent hill, and now he’s not? While this may all be an elaborate ruse by Kojima himself, the latest rumours try to clarify the whole situation.

According to industry insider Shpeshal_Nick, Hideo Kojima himself is not working on Silent Hill. Instead he is working with Xbox making a title for Microsoft’s console. While little was given away regarding the nature of this game, Shpeshal_Nick claims that it is not a new IP, but instead an existing Microsoft franchise.

Looking at the list of Xbox first-party franchises, it is hard to see any that would fit well with Kojima’s style of video games. That being said, with the prestige that Kojima holds, it is likely that whatever franchise he is working on is one that the director himself selected and is passionate about.

It is also worth noting that While Kojima may not be working on Silent Hill, it is entirely possible that the game is still coming from Kojima Productions. While Kojima serves as the face of the studio, there exists within the company dozens of extremely talented employees. It could be that Kojima may not be directing Silent Hill, but instead serving as an advisory role. Either way, hopefully this entire mess of leaks and rumours gets clarified sooner rather than later.

The discussion surrounding the revival of Silent Hill has been a long and arduous one, with many details contradicting one another. It seems we may have finally gotten some concrete details on what exactly is happening. According to the latest rumour, a Silent Hill game is in development at Kojima Productions, and will be exclusive to PlayStation.

Recently we reported that Konami was bringing back some of its biggest franchises, namely Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill. It seems on the Silent Hill front, the revival of the franchise is being handed to Kojima Productions.

According to Gematsu, Kojima Productions has been tasked with the responsibility of bringing back the Silent Hill franchise after the cancellation of Silent Hills (which was also developed by Kojima Productions). As part of the same report, it was revealed that Sony is financing the title, suggesting that it will be a PlayStation exclusive.

Ever since the cancellation of Silent Hills in 2015 (following the highly successful PT demo), the future of the survival horror franchise had been unknown. Since then, Konami has moved away from the video games industry, focusing on other money-making endeavours such as pachinko machines.

That said, after a long time away, it seems as though the publisher is finally willing to embrace its legacy of incredibly strong IP – and if it needs to be a console exclusive in order for it to happen, then it is a worthwhile sacrifice.

There has been a lot of discussion around Konami in recent months, with many sources claiming that the publisher is going to revive some beloved franchises. According to new reports this week, we're set for new Metal Gear, Castlevania and Silent Hill games.

Silent Hill has been at the centre of most of these leaks, but according to VGC's sources, Metal Gear and Castlevania are also getting some much needed attention. Apparently, a Metal Gear revival is being worked on by Virtuos, a studio primarily known for offering supporting development duties for Triple A games and remasters. The game involves Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater somehow, but whether its a remake, a reimagining or a new entry set around the same time as that game still remains to be seen.

Metal Gear remasters will also be coming as part of Konami's push to bring the series back to the forefront.

Aside from Metal Gear, Konami has also apparently greenlit a “reimagining” of Castlevania, which is being worked on internally at Konami's Japan studio, with support from external studios. Lastly, there are also said to be ‘multiple' Silent Hill games in the works, with one of them being outsourced to a Japanese studio.

Blooper Team recently announced that it has signed a publishing deal with Konami, immediately reigniting rumours of a new Silent Hill game coming from the studio. Unfortunately, according to Blooper Team, while there may have been some truth to these rumours at one point, they are apparently based on outdated or incomplete information.

Speaking with IGN last week, Blooper Team, CMO, Tomasz Gawlikowski, responded to recent rumours of the studio working on Silent Hill, saying: “Online speculations based on outdated or incomplete information can often lead to strange theories among gamers”.

He later added that the studio is working on two projects and has applied to work on two more, codenamed “Dum Spiro” and “Black”. The former is a game that has been in the works for a while and has already gone through numerous iterations, but it is currently on hold. Black is also a game that has gone through a lot of changes during development, but no further details were shared.

Konami is currently getting back into the video games industry, choosing to license out certain IP to studios and offering publishing agreements. Blooper Team is the first studio to announce such a deal.

KitGuru Says: It is clear from these statements that Blooper's projects are too early on to confirm anything specific. Perhaps over the next couple of years, we'll start to learn more official details.

Back in February, Blooper Team, developers behind titles like Observer and The Medium, revealed that they were working on a new horror game with “a very famous publisher“. That mystery publisher has now been revealed to be none other than Konami, adding more legitimacy to recent Silent Hill revival rumours.

The official announcement simply states that Blooper Team has entered a publishing agreement with Konami, which will see Blooper developing “selected contents and exchanging know-how” with Konami. However, according to VGC's sources, a Silent Hill related project is one of the planned games from Blooper Team under this agreement.

While Blooper Team is working on something Silent Hill related, this isn't the only project that Konami is lending the license to. Apparently, there is also a Japanese studio currently working with the IP as well.

Konami is also reportedly planning to license out some of its other major IP to external studios, including the likes of Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid.

There have been a lot of rumours surrounding Konami IP lately, including remakes for Metal Gear Solid and a potential revival of Silent Hills. Unfortunately, it seems that we won't be seeing any of that come to fruition at E3 this year, as Konami will be skipping the event.

In an announcement this week, Konami made it clear that it will not be participating in E3 this year, but the company also wanted to reassure fans that “a number of key projects” are in “deep development”.

“Due to timing, we will not be ready to present at E3 this year. We want to reassure our fans that we are in deep development on a number of key projects, so please stay tuned for some updates in the coming months”, Konami said in a statement. “While we are not participating this year, we have great respect for the ESA and know that 2021 will be a great success”.

E3 2021 is set to take place between the 12th and 15th of June, featuring appearances from Nintendo, Xbox, Ubisoft, Take-Two, Warner Bros, Capcom, Konami, Koch Media and Square Enix.

KitGuru Says: Were any of you hoping to see Konami at E3 this year? What secret projects do you reckon they are working on?

Ever since the cancellation of Silent Hills back in 2015, fans have been clamouring for a new entry in the Silent Hill franchise. While there have been rumours abound regarding the return of the series, there has yet to be any official confirmation. That being said, the creator of Silent Hill has now claimed that he is “collaborating with a famous creator in Japan” for his upcoming project.

In an interview with Al Hub (and as reported by VGC), Silent Hill’s creator, Keiichiro Toyama, teased his next project, saying “We’re obviously still at an early period, so there’s not a lot we can actually say, but we are looking to create an experience that can be enjoyed widely by a range of people. So, for example, we intend for our game to have a setting in Asian cities.”

The most interesting part however is Toyama’s claim that “One thing we can say is that, we are working hard right now to collaborate with a famous creator in Japan, and that’s something we haven’t been open about before.”

Though no further details were provided on who this creator is, many fans have expressed their desire to see the revered mangaka Junji Ito be this mysterious creator. Junji Ito is of course best known for his work on the Uzumaki series, as well as his ability to draw up new forms of horror which were previously unexplored.

Toyama has worked on a number of different franchises, including Silent Hill, but also Siren and the Gravity Rush series. While known most for his horror work, the director has shown flexibility in both genres and gameplay styles. As such, whatever he has planned next, Toyama’s upcoming project could go in any number of directions. Hopefully we get to see a reveal sooner rather than later.

The Silent Hill franchise is famous for many things. One of its most iconic facets however is its music. Composed by Akira Yamaoka, the identity of Silent Hill is tied to Yamaoka in many ways. As such, the composer caused many heads to turn when he claimed that his next project is “the one you’re hoping to hear about.”

As reported by Siliconera, in a recent (and now removed) interview, following the question “When are we going to see the next Akira Yamaoka project?”, Akira Yamaoka claimed that a new project which he has been involved in, is expected to be announced sometime during Summer of this year.

Yamaoka refrained from offering any more details, aside from claiming that “I think it’s the one you’re hoping to hear about”. Akira Yamaoka has worked on dozens of games across his career to varying levels of involvement. By far his most famous role however is that of composer for the Silent Hill franchise.

As such, these vague words by Yamaoka may heavily imply that this next project could in fact be the much rumoured Silent Hill game, which has been circulating the rumour mill for years now ever since the cancellation of Silent Hills in 2015. Regardless, we don't have too much longer to wait to find out exactly what Akira Yamaoka is referring to.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Yamaoka’s statement? Do you think he’s talking about Silent Hill? What other game do you think it could be? Let us know down below.

We may want to pump the breaks on rumours of Sony and Konami teaming up for a new Silent Hill game, as key departures at Sony's SCE Japan studio have taken place this week. These departures include Keiichiro Toyama, creator and director of the original Silent Hill.

After more than two decades at PlayStation's SCE Japan Studio, Silent Hill creator, Keiichiro Toyama is departing to form a new development company. This new studio also has veteran talent from other PlayStation franchises, like The Last Guardian and Gravity Rush.

This new studio is called Bokeh Game Studio and you can see it being introduced in the video above.

Toyama is joined by The Last Guardian's Kazunobu Sato and Gravity Rush designer, Junya Okura. The small team will begin recruiting as it starts to plan its first game project.

KitGuru Says: It's always interesting to see new studios appear, particularly when they are led by well-known industry veterans. Hopefully we'll see something good coming out of Bokeh Game Studio in the next few years.

This month, GOG officially turns 12 years old and to celebrate, the DRM-free games store is having a huge sale, while also bringing back another Konami classic back to PC. Recently, GOG brought the original Metal Gear and first two Metal Gear Solid games to PC and this week, that is followed up by the return of Silent Hill 4: The Room.

Silent Hill 4 is a classic survival horror following Henry Townshend, who ends up finding himself living in a gruesome alternate reality. The game is now back on PC and DRM-free thanks to GOG, joining several other Konami classics in the library.

While Silent Hill 4 is big news, GOG's 12th Anniversary Sale is also worth checking out. For starters, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is 20% off and is bundled with the original game. The Talos Principle: Gold Edition is 90% off, you will also find deals on Deus Ex, Darkest Dungeon, Frostpunk, Diablo and more.

Finally, GOG's 12th Anniversary Sale is the last chance to get the Ultimate RED Collection bundle, which contains all of CD Projekt Red's games from The Witcher series in addition to a pre-order of Cyberpunk 2077.

The GOG 12th Anniversary Sale runs until October 9th, so you have plenty of time to browse the deals and pick up some new games.

KitGuru Says: Do many of you shop at GOG regularly? Will you be picking up anything from the sale this month?
