In the last year we have seen a rising demand for smaller chassis such as the excellent Bitfenix Prodigy and Aerocool Dead Silence. With this in mind MSI are launching their MSI Nightblade – a barebones configuration to target the demanding enthusiast audience who feel that ‘smaller is better'. The barebones includes the case, an MSI Z87I gaming motherboard, a Dragon Fan and 80 Plus Gold certified Silverstone 600W power supply. MSI say that this diminutive 16 litre case can house the most powerful components available … so today we put their claims to the test.

MSI will be selling the Nightblade chassis in a barebones configuration however some of their partners such as Scan, Overclockers UK, Yoyotech, Cyberpower UK and MESH will be selling in a fully configured state. This makes sense, because while many people like to build their own system, some just don't want to deal with the hassle, especially when working in the confines of such a small chassis.

Today we will be testing the MSI Nightblade with some of the highest specification components we can use – including an Intel Core i7 4770k, two Plextor Solid State drives in Raid 0, and an MSI R9 290X graphics card. MSI bundled their optional custom CPU cooler so we include that in the mix.

Can the case handle the heat?

If, like us, you have a passion for miniature computing, then today's review is going to get you moist. AMD's biggest partner Sapphire have decided to branch out into the ‘system building' enthusiast sector and have created the new EDGE-HD Mini PC with the shock revelation that the internal hardware is based around Intel and Nvidia components.

The Sapphire Edge-HD Mini PC is released as the world's smallest PC measuring just 193mm x 148 mm x 22mm (WxDxH) and weighing in at 575g.

These diminutive dimensions means that some compromises have to be made, with some connectivity getting the axe.

Underneath the matt plastic casing resides a dual core, quad threaded Intel Atom D510 processor which is supported by 2GB of DDR3 memory. Graphics duties are handled by the nVidia Ion 2 which supports Direct X 10.1, and is commonly found in a plethora of netbooks on the market today. Sapphire have also included a generous 250GB 2.5 inch hard drive for all the storage demands.

Next week Sapphire are introducing the first in a new line of lifestyle computer products, the Sapphire Edge HD Mini PC.

This computer is being sold around the $300 mark and is ‘powerful enough for everyday applications as well as browsing, with extensive built in storage and connectivity and HD compatible display. Consuming very low power and taking up less space than most network access points, the Edge HD is a new concept in computing from Sapphire.

Surely thats not an Nvidia badge on the front

The Sapphire EDGE-HD Mini PC is believed to be the smallest PC in the world with its slim, stylish outline. At less than half a litre in volume, it is slimmer and smaller than most wireless access points.

Specifications will be released next week, nearer the release date.

KitGuru says: This looks extremely sexy, and we can't wait to get our hands on one for review
