The final GeForce Now library update of the month has arrived, bringing six more games to the cloud gaming service, five of which are brand-new releases.

Last week's headliners were of course Dragon's Dogma 2 and the new Alone in the Dark reboot. This week's big highlight is Paradox Interactive's latest 4X strategy game, Millennia, allowing players to take command of 10,000 years of history, building up an empire and discovering new technologies along the way. Additionally, Palia, a new low-stress MMO is launching, allowing players to craft, cook, fish and farm, either alone or with friends.

Here is the full list of titles joining GeForce Now this week:

  • Palia (Steam, 25th March)
  • Millennia (Steam, 26th March)
  • Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles (Steam, March 26th)
  • Outpost: Infinity Siege (Steam, March 26th)
  • SOUTH PARK: SNOW DAY! (Steam, March 26th)
  • Tchia (Steam)

The next GeForce Now update will include a preview of what's to come in April. Perhaps we'll see the highly anticipated JRPG Sand Land join the list. I'll also have my fingers crossed for Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, which is finally releasing next month.

Last month, we finally got the official unveiling of the next South Park video game. South Park: Snow Day is on the way, offering a 3D take on the mountain town and its many characters. At the time, we learned the game was due to release in March, but now a proper, finalised release date has been put in place.

South Park: Snow Day is a collaborative effort between small California-based studio, Question Games, and THQ Nordic. While previous popular South Park titles were single-player turn-based RPGs, this time around we are getting a co-op shooter of sorts, themed around the kids in South Park enjoying a Snow Day, just as the title suggests.

In keeping with the South Park RPGs, players will be taking on the role of the ‘New Kid' in town, interacting with various established characters from the show. In squads of four, players will traverse through levels using melee and ranged combat abilities to save the town from some imaginary form of destruction. The game will take on more of a fantasy setting, like The Stick of Truth.

The game will be available for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and Nintendo Switch, starting on the 26th of March 2024. The game will be priced at £24.99 for the standard edition, but a more expensive Deluxe and Collectors Edition are also on the way.

The reveal trailer does include gameplay and while it is weird to see South Park characters in 3D like this, it doesn't look as bad as I personally thought it would.

The game will be available for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and Nintendo Switch, with a tentative release window set for March 2024. The studio is looking to keep the initial cost down to foster a healthy multiplayer community, so it will only cost £24.99 at launch, rather than being a full priced release.

KitGuru Says: I loved the South Park RPGs and while I probably will check this out, it doesn't seem like my kind of game. Still, by leveraging the South Park IP, we could be looking at a very fresh-feeling multiplayer game here.

THQ Nordic recently hosted its own showcase in which the publisher announced and showed off a number of their projects, including TMNT: The Last Ronin and South Park: Snow Day. Interestingly, THQ revealed that they currently have 20 more projects in development – all of which have yet to be announced.

During THQ Nordic’s 2023 Digital Showcase, the publisher announced and showed off a dozen games currently in development, including the likes of Alone in the Dark; TMNT: The Last Ronin; South Park: Snow Day and Wreckreation.

Interestingly, upon the conclusion of the event, THQ revealed that these titles are but a snippet of what the publisher has in store, saying:

“As of today, THQ Nordic (Handygames not included) has 37 games in development, thereof 20 still unannounced after this showcase. Thank you for watching!”

THQ Nordic is a massive company, residing under the Embracer Group umbrella, and on its own has 20 different subsidiaries – making the announcement of 37 games somewhat less shocking.

Still, with more than 3 dozen games currently in the works, it will be interesting to see how the perception of the publisher changes as and when they each come out.

We've known for a while now that there is a new South Park video game in the works, but exactly who is working on it has remained a mystery. A small California-based studio called ‘Question Games' is working on something, and in a surprise move, it appears that THQ Nordic is also working on a South Park game.

During the THQ Nordic showcase on Friday, the stream ended with the South Park Digital Studios logo, alongside an audio snippet from the show. Unfortunately, no other details were shared.

Whether this game is separate from the one South Park Studios announced a year ago has not been confirmed. We also don't know if Question Games is involved, or if it is working on its own South Park game as well.

Previously, Ubisoft published South Park: The Stick of Truth and its sequel, The Fractured But Whole. Both games were turn-based RPGs set in South Park, featuring memorable characters from the show's history. It is believed that the next South Park game will be entirely different and may even be 3D.

Last year, South Park Studios confirmed that it was working on another new video game, but did not confirm which studio would be developing the game, seemingly indicating that its partnership with Ubisoft has come to an end. Now, we seem to know which studio is working on the new game.

As spotted by Eurogamer, Question Games, a studio based in California, has begun hiring for “a new video game set in the world of South Park”. The application also seems to confirm that the game will be built using Unreal Engine and may include multiplayer elements.

Question Games is looking for applicants with “previous multiplayer level design work” as well as “familiarity with console development on modern systems”.

Question Games is not a household name like Ubisoft, with previous titles including The Magic Circle and The Blackout Club. The studio was founded by developers from well-known franchises though, including those who worked on games like BioShock and Dishonored.

There have been two South Park games in the modern console era, including The Stick of Truth, developed by Obsidian Entertainment, and a direct sequel, The Fractured but Whole, developed and published by Ubisoft.

KitGuru Says: The previous two South Park games were thoroughly enjoyable, but it seems this third game will be going in a different direction, targeting multiplayer, rather than being a single-player turn-based RPG. Still, the game has yet to be revealed, so there is still plenty we don't know about this upcoming game.

We've had two excellent South Park games release in the last decade and it looks like creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, are now working on a third game. This time around, we'll be getting something markedly different, as this upcoming title is said to be 3D and it appears that Ubisoft is not involved.

According to Bloomberg, the South Park team has set up its own game studio, which is working on a “3D video game that is set in the world of South Park”. The previous two titles, The Stick of Truth and The Fractured but Whole, were published by Ubisoft but this time around, everything is seemingly being handled in-house.

Unfortunately, that is all we know about the game for now, so we don't know if this game will also be an RPG, or if it will completely separate itself from the previous games.

This game is part of a new deal that South Park Studios has signed with ViacomCBS, which will also extend the TV series for more seasons, and fund a slew of spin-off movies too.

KitGuru Says: The previous two South Park games captured the look and feel of the show very well, so it'll be interesting to see if that can continue with a 3D game. What would you like to see in the next South Park game?

South Park: The Stick of Truth is perhaps one of the best licensed games of all time. Obsidian, Ubisoft and the South Park team did a great job putting together the RPG, with the only downside for some being that it was locked at 30 frames per second on all platforms. That will be changing this year with South Park: The Fractured But Whole, which targets 60 frames per second on PC. We also have the system requirements to share.

Ubisoft announced the system requirements for South Park: The Fractured But Whole today, with the minimum specification targeting 720p at 60 frames per second and the recommended specification targeting 1080p at 60 frames per second.

Here is the minimum:

  • Resolution: 720p @~60FPS
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 2400 or AMD FX 4320.
  • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 560Ti, GTX 650/750/950. Or AMD Radeon HD7850, R9 270/R9 370 or RX 460.
  • RAM: 6GB
  • OS: Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only).

Here is the recommended:

  • Resolution: 1080p @~60FPS.
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 4690K or AMD FX 8350.
  • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 670/750Ti/960. Or AMD R9 280x/380/RX 470.
  • RAM: 8GB.
  • OS: Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only).

In my opinion, the recommended requirements seem a tad high for this game given its art style. That said, the minimum GPU requirements are by no means unreasonable. PC gamers with a system built in the last five years should be able to play.

As long as another delay doesn’t sneak in, South Park: The Fractured But Whole will release on the 27th of October 2017, almost an entire year after its original release date.

KitGuru Says: While the delays have hurt my overall excitement for this game, I am sure my hype levels will start creeping back up in October. Are many of you looking forward to the new South Park game?

South Park: The Fractured But Whole made quite the impression at E3 last year but unfortunately, repeated delays have kept it out of our hands for far too long. Today though, Ubisoft has finally given us another update on the game, with a new release date set, alongside an all new trailer.

The trailer this time around sets the premise for the story, crime is on the rise in South Park and thus, the superhero team Coon and Friends is formed. You can see the trailer below, it's certainly worth the watch if you're a South Park fan.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole will now be releasing on the 17th of October, following the game's most recent delay out of Q1 2017. This is a lot later than the game was initially due to come out but hopefully, there will be no further delays after this.

Aside from South Park, Ubisoft has a slew of other big launches planned for this year, including Far Cry 5, Assassin's Creed: Origins and a sequel to The Crew.

KitGuru Says: I must admit, the delays have brought down my ‘hype' levels for this game quite a bit. Hopefully that will change once we get closer to the final release date though. Are you guys glad to see a new release date for this game? It has been a long time since we last heard any news.

Last night, Ubisoft executives gathered around for an annual earnings report, which means we finally have some updates about the publisher's plans for 2017. For starters, Far Cry 5 is confirmed for release this year. However, Ubisoft mentioned a few other major games it has planned for this year, including the new Assassin's Creed, a sequel to ‘The Crew' and finally, there was also a brief update on the status of South Park: The Fractured But Whole.

Far Cry 5 was revealed to be launching in this financial year, which essentially means any time between now and March 2018. However, current rumours suggest that the game will be releasing in September and will be set in the US state of Montana.

Ubisoft will also be bringing Assassin's Creed back this year after a much needed break. This particular game is rumoured to be called ‘Assassin's Creed: Origins' and will be set in Egypt, focussing on the beginnings of the Assassin brotherhood.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole is still expected to come out this year. Unfortunately, a more specific release window was not given, which is a shame due to the delay out of Q1 2017. However, with E3 just around the corner, it is likely that we will hear more then.

Finally, Ubisoft also announced that it will be bringing out ‘The Crew 2' this fiscal year. We will be seeing all of these games at E3 on the 12th of June, when Ubisoft's press conference kicks off.

KitGuru Says: I'm pretty excited to see Assassin's Creed return this year but I do worry that Ubisoft will jump straight back into annual releases after this. Hopefully that won't be the case. Either way, judging from the 2017 lineup, Ubi's E3 this year is going to be pretty great.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole has been through a bit of a rollercoaster. Development of the sequel has seen the game change hands from Obsidian Entertainment to one of Ubisoft's own internal studios and while we got a great look at the game during E3 last year, it unfortunately missed its December 2016 release date. At the time of the delay, Ubisoft aimed to get it out during ‘Q1 2017' instead but now the publisher has confirmed that it won't be hitting that release window either.

The delay was revealed during Ubisoft's quarterly earnings call, with executives now pointing to the 2017-2018 financial year as the new ‘release window' for the game. This means the game could be coming out anytime between April 2017 and March 2018, so the state of the game is quite vague at this point.

Given the vague release window given, it would seem that the game might not be as close to finished as we had hoped when we first saw it in action at E3 2016. If there was a new release date in sight, then Ubisoft likely would have been a bit more specific with its timing.

KitGuru Says: The gameplay shown at E3 last year had me very excited for this game but it would seem the development team are having trouble actually getting the game out the door, which is a shame. Hopefully we get some more concrete release news soon as ‘Financial year 2018' is far too vague.

You might remember a few weeks ago when we reported that a new gadget had appeared alongside South Park: The Fractured But Whole booths at gaming shows, called the Nosulus Rift. Well it's shown up at this year's EGX too, so if you're heading along to the NEC this weekend, you can sign up to smell South Park character farts through an immersive, face mounted device.

nosulus01

The Nosulus Rift might be a joke gadget, but it's one that really exists and really works too. While I will admit to not trying it myself – as much as I wanted to, the queue was too long by the time I got there – the reports from attendees we spoke to were enough to let us know that it's effective. “Disgusting,” was a phrase thrown out by some, but it was the fact that it seemed to linger in the nostrils that had a few sitting down for a few minutes after trying it.

nosulus02

In case there are any problems, there are trained scientists on hand.

The point of the Nosulus is that when playing the 15 minute South Park demo, every time you or one of your companions uses a fart power, be it for a fireball or simply to climb a building – it's South Park, what do you expect? – you get a blast of fart smell right into your nostrils and if you time it poorly, your mouth too.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPsj8TQHtMg']

There is further benefit to having your face blasted with flatulence though. If you get your picture taken while wearing the Nosulus Rift, or with any of the South Park character cutouts around the booth, you can stand a chance to win an Xbox One every day, so popping back for a quick snap if you are attending multiple days, may not be a bad idea.

We finally got our first good look at South Park: The Fractured But Whole at E3 this year and since then, quite a few people have managed to get some hands-on time with the game, leaving with positive impressions. While we were initially expected to get our hands on the finished product in December, Ubisoft announced today that the release date has been pushed back to 2017.

Right now, the superhero-themed South Park RPG does not have a new release date, all we know for now is that it will be coming sometime during the first quarter, which could be anywhere between January and March.

In a blog post on the matter, Ubisoft wrote: “The development team wants to make sure the game experience meets the high expectations of fans and the additional time will help them achieve this goal”. Aside from that, the publisher didn't give us any additional details.

In the meantime, you can find plenty of extended gameplay videos floating around on YouTube now if you want to see a bit more of it.

KitGuru Says: This was one of my most anticipated games of the year, so I am pretty disappointed. Hopefully the game's new release date ends up landing sooner rather than later. Were any of you guys looking forward to getting this in December?

Ubisoft had a surprisingly successful game on its hands with South Park the Stick of Truth, so it's doing it again with the Fractured But Whole. To provide a special promotional opportunity at Gamescom however, it showed off the game with a unique peripheral: the Nosulus Rift, which lets you smell farts, while you play.

Now who would willingly strap themselves into a device which pumps the smell of farts into their nose? No one, really, which is why the TomsHardware staffer subjected to such a device discusses being somewhat forcibly required to try it for the good of his reader base.

Note. I'd smell farts for you guys if I had to.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPsj8TQHtMg']

That didn't make the experience any more bearable though. At the Ubisoft Gamescom booth, he found himself strapped into the device, which sits (uncomfortably, we're told) on the lower half of your face, encasing your mouth and nose in its confines. The idea is, that when you fire off farts in game to do damage to your enemies, you also get a dose of fart smell.

This isn't your average weak fart spray or stink bomb either, this is really nasty stuff, according to the report. Truly “rancid,” was the way it was described.

It's not clear whether this is something Ubisoft plans to install at a lot of its promotional booths, but it's no doubt an interesting way to draw in crowds, even if just to watch journalists nearly vomit while playing a South Park game.

KitGuru Says: If this is at the Insomnia LAN this weekend, I'll give it a shot. I wouldn't say I'm excited about the prospect, but in the interest of journalistic integrity, you have to, right?

Last year, Obsidian's long-awaited South Park  RPG launched to great reception from fans and critics alike. South Park: The Stick of Truth did a great job of capturing the look of the show and it was a great game to boot. Now Matt and Trey have joined back up with Ubisoft to bring out  a sequel known as ‘South Park: The Fractured But Whole', the title appears weird at first but there is definitely a joke there.

Ubisoft announced the sequel to The Stick of Truth last night during its own E3 press conference. While The Stick of Truth had a medieval setting, with mages, warriors and rogues, this time around, we will be seeing the South Park characters return in super hero form, with Butters taking on the role of Mr Chaos, the villain.

South Park

Superheroes have been explored in the show before with episodes such as ‘The Coon' and Coon and Friends'. The trailer gives a good idea of what to expect from this new game, although it isn't super clear whether or not it will be a turn-based RPG like the last game or feature a new battle system.

It isn't all good news, for reasons unknown Obsidian are not behind this project, instead Ubisoft's in-house San Francisco studio will be taking over, the same team behind Rocksmith.

KitGuru Says: The trailer had me pretty excited for this game but unfortunately, aside from the theme, we don't know much about it. I'm also a little worried about quality now that Obsidian is not behind it but then again, there is no exact release date yet so we will just have to wait and see how it turns out.

South Park has been tackling gaming a lot this season, we've had an episode on the Oculus Rift, another on free to play mobile games and now the trend is continuing, with a new episode focusing on YouTube game commentary, featuring the most popular gamer on YouTube, PewDiePie.

The episode is called #REHASH and will feature Eric Cartman publicizing his new game streaming channel, where he will be commenting on his friends commenting on Call of Duty. You can see the promos down below:

South Park

The guest spot isn't entirely surprising as PewDiePie was a big part of the marketing strategy behind South Park: The Stick of Truth, helping publicize the game and arguably contributing to its overall commercial success.

Additionally, Matt and Trey have created a host of popular gaming themed episodes lately, including a three parter based on the console wars last year.

The episode airs tomorrow night on Comedy Central, although US citizens will be able to watch it online after on Southpark.cc.

Got yourself an Oculus Rift development kit? Fan of South Park are you? Great, as you can now explore the snowy Colorado town in all its glory thanks to a new development from production company Tool of North America, which has seen the entire town created in the Unity engine.

If you don't have a Rift but would still like to check the town out, by all means go ahead, it just won't be in glorious three dimensions. You can even try it out in your browser here.

southparktool

Along with the town itself being open to explore, there's plenty of characters dotted around. They're all 2D sprites, as befitting characters from South park, but they do talk when you wander near, spouting catch phrases and little sayings from the show.

There's even multiples of some characters in their different guises. The Coon for example is hanging out by the mall, looking to thwart evil. Or court it. One of the other.

Whats'up dog? You wanna' throw down?

Amazingly the project only took a few weeks to put together and was really to help those behind it work on their Unity and Oculus Rift development skills. If you'd like to read more about the process, check out the official project page here.

Kitguru Says: If you do have a go, it's worth paying a trip to the church. You get to “fall” to hell where you'll meet such standouts as Wonder Woman, the Devil and of course Saddam Hussein himself.

We heard a couple of days ago about how the console versions of Matt and Trey's upcoming South Park: The Stick of Truth, were being censored in some specific areas, mainly involved abortion and anal probing. However, it turns out that this wasn't some ratings board or government forcing the game to comply (apart from in the case of Germany's anti-swastika laws), but Ubisoft itself. It didn't have to censor the game, it chose to.

Keen to investigate, VG247 got in touch with the PEGI ratings board and asked it what had happened with the censoring of the game, something that has driven some fans to either change to purchasing the uncensored PC version (depending on territory) or decide not to buy the game altogether.

“The game was assessed by us and deemed acceptable for a PEGI 18 rating,” the PEGI spokesperson said. “For some games released in the UK, we are obliged to consider UK legislation as it currently affects video games (the Video Recordings Act 2010.) This consideration applies to games which are likely to attain a PEGI 12, 16 or 18 rating and which may contain potentially harmful or illegal material. As there was no such issue with the game, it was duly given its PEGI 18.”

stickofouch
You get three guesses…

It then went on to say that it hadn't censored the game at all and in-fact, doesn't have the authority or ability to do so. The only time it might have some influence on censorship, would be if a developer received a higher rating than expected and wanted to appeal and be more available to, a younger audience.

“As far as Ubisoft is concerned, all we know is that at some point a decision was made to change the game content for their own marketing reasons,” continued PEGI. “Those reasons are not something that we are privy too, so we are not able to give you any further details.”

While we don't know for sure what the final game will be like with or without the censored scenes until next week when the review embargo is up, early indications suggest that it's good and has been worth the wait.

KitGuru Says: It's a shame that there's any censorship, especially in relation to a property like South Park which has made history many times for its ability to push the boundaries of taste and humour, something that is much needed in a society that's increasingly intolerant of offending people. While I doubt it will hurt the final product too much, it's a shame Ubisoft couldn't trust the developers and the audience to get along with scenes of annal probing. Especially since that's something that's cropped up many times in South Park before.

If you were planning on picking up the expectedly raunchy South Park: Stick of Truth on either the Xbox 360 or PS3, you might want to reconsider a PC purchase, since the console versions of the game are being censored in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, with key scenes removed and replaced with a text description of the action.

Harking back to the episodes “200” and “201,” which featured censored images and the voice of, Mohammed, the version of the game showing up on Microsoft and Sony's consoles, censors two mini-games and a pre-rendered cut scene, as well as four other unnamed portions of the game. Replacing each scene, is a black background or still image, with Matt and Trey chosen text placed over it.

probe
You'll just have to take our word for it, something awful is happening here

The three scenes we do know about are:

  • A mini-game where a doctor is performing an abortion on the player.
  • A mini-game where the player is performing an abortion on the character Randy.
  • Five ‘anal probing’ scenes in which characters are ‘actively’ being probed.

“The decision to cut this content from the game was made by Ubisoft EMEA,” reads the review guide that mentions the censorship (via AGB).

KitGuru Says: At least we know that in the Stick or Truth we get to watch Randy getting an abortion. Now I'm more excited for this then ever.

These new videos are being showcased on the official site, but fortunately AGB have put them all together with the latest TV advert to create a nice coherent collection:

As well as seeing what a Mr Hankey domestic looks like, the trailers also show our lead character (the new kid) shuffling along in typical South Park fashion and interacting with elements of the show that all come together from many different episodes to inhabit the same story. There's problems with “ginger kids,” nazis and lots of references to the recent Game of Thrones/console war storyline.

There's even the appearance of a zombie Chef. Yes, the Chef, who was brutally killed over and over on the show after the voice actor Issaac Hayes left, with a spokesperson suggesting it was because of an episode depicted Scientology in an overly negative light.

South Park The Stick of Truth has been delayed again. After having its 10th of December release date announced last month, Ubisoft along with South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have now announced that the game won't be ready until 4th March next year.

In an official blog post Communications Manager, Gary Steinman, admits that Ubisoft thought the game was almost done and that it would be an easy job to finish off and release:

“When Ubisoft picked up the game, we thought: Easy. We’ll put some marketing muscle behind Stick of Truth, toss some additional development resources at it, then take it to the finish line with Matt Stone and Trey Parker. The game’s almost done, anyways – so what more could we do?” the post continues. Unfortunately, it turns out it needed quite a bit more that that. “Within three weeks after acquiring the game, we sadly realized we had to turn this thing upside down if we hoped to deliver the experience everybody wanted,”

South Park creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker stepped in to back up Ubisoft's decision:  “We always wanted the game to feel like you’re actually in an episode of South Park,” say Matt Stone and Trey Parker. “Getting the game up to the crappy standards of the show has been a real challenge and we’re excited to say it’s taken way longer than we thought it would.”

So we won't be taking up the role of the new kid in South Park any time soon but Obsidian Entertainment is behind this project and with the developer's history with RPG's, I'm expecting it to be worth the wait.

Ubisoft has released a seven minute look at some of the game along with this announcement:

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXCIMpD9i00′]

South Park The Stick of Truth and the special ‘Grand Wizard' edition will now launch on the 4th of March 2014 at £39.99 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 and £29.99 for PC.

KitGuru Says: While this game isn't as big a blow to gamers as the Watch Dogs delay was, it's still a bit disappointing. I trust that they will make the game as good as it can possibly be for when it does arrive though, if it gets delayed again I think people might stop caring.

South Park, one of the most popular and often controversial cartoons around, has had a game in development for a while and now we finally know when we will get to play it. Look for it December, but while we wait, it's worth noting it's somewhat troubled history.

The Stick of Truth is an RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment, who are no strangers to the genre, having developed both Fallout: New Vegas and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2. The game is going to stay true to the 2D animation style that South Park is famous for and will be published by Ubisoft, who bought the rights after the previous publisher, THQ, went bankrupt.

The collapse of THQ caused the release date to be pushed back until the holiday season of 2013, but that vague time window has now been narrowed down to 10th December for the US and 12th December for Europe. A special edition was also announced.

The Grand Wizard Edition will include:

  • 6 inch Cartman Grand Wizard figure
  • Kingdom of South park map
  • Ultimate Fellowship pack

There is no word on UK pricing for the Grand Wizard edition as of yet. However, it has been confirmed that the special edition will be exclusive to Amazon and Uplay. In the US it will cost $79.99.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaaV29_Gq-g']

If you just want to buy the game, it's priced at £39.99 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 while on the PC it's going to cost £29.99.

KitGuru Says: Being a fan of South Park myself I am excited for this game to finally release. Obsidian Entertainment, have a good reputation with the RPG genre, having already developed two of my favourite games, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this one turns out. Will you be picking up the Stick of Truth?

Update: Blizzard has now released a further statement, updating the situation: “The Mobile Auction House is still in maintenance mode. We're working to restore full service as soon as possible. #WoW #BlizzCS”

World of Warcraft's Mobile Auction House, the smartphone tool that lets residents of Azeroth check out stats from their character, buy gear or experiment with new talent tree setups, has been down for the past couple of days, after a supposed security breach was found in the software.

On Saturday players from both US and EU servers were reporting that masses of gold was missing from their accounts,  with a couple of junk items to replace it. Many of these players even had the added security of an authenticator and it didn't seem to be making much difference.

In the wake of this news, Blizzard announced the temporary closure of the Mobile Auction House while it finds and fixes the bug, but since then we've heard nothing from the publishing giant.

“They stole my cape of the mongoose?!”

Fortunately, those that have been affected by the digital break in have mostly seen their items and gold returned to them, so make sure you send in a support ticket if you find yourself out of pocket. It's doing it fast too, as one user on the forums points out:

“I personally commend Blizzard for shutting the Remote AH down in pretty quick time in order to prevent further infringements. I submitted a ticket to get my gold back and received a response to the ticket in under 12 hours, which was great. All my gold was restored and I came out with 2 white items, so thank you Blizzard.”

KitGuru Says: Have any of you found yourself with some junk items and a lot of missing gold?

Update: Interestingly, South Park Studios, the company behind the hit TV show has said that it isn't keen on THQ selling off its IP. In-fact, it claims that within its contract with THQ there is a stipulation that should it be breached, South Park Studios has the right to acquire back all “elements of the game and related properties.” Again, this was spotted by NeoGaf.

Original Story: Rumours have begun appearing ahead of the THQ IP auction announcement later today – due at 5pm – suggesting that Sega is in the running, along with Ubisoft and Koch Media, the parent company for Deep Silver – developer of Dead Island.

But which studios are they supposedly after? Well according to the ever reliable NeoGaf, Sega is interested in Relic, suggesting that we could soon see the one time console maker be in control of the Warhammer 40,000 license, along with Company of Heroes sequels. Koch Media on the other hand is apparently gunning for Volition, which would give it access to the Saint's Row series and Ubisoft is pushing to gain control of Obsidian and its South Park: Stick of Truth game.

Auction
Where will South Park end up? We'll find out soon.

Whether any of this true will be discovered later today when the official announcement is made, but it's fun to speculate and some of these deals would be really interesting. Sega has a lot of cash to burn according to Eurogamer, somewhere to the tune of $2 billion (£1.26 billion) so Relic would be pretty safe in terms of future developments there.

Ubisoft might be an interesting home for South Park – but I'm looking forward to that one so here's hoping they don't slap on some irritating DRM.

While it isn't the only mega corporation vying for the rights to some of THQ's hottest properties, EA Games is in the running for some of the beleaguered publisher's games and franchises, when the auction takes place in the next couple of weeks.

Cash dry THQ was hoping to secure a buyer for its entire company late last year, to the tune of $60 million (£37 million) but it never managed it, leading us to the sad state where all of its IPs will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. That means the new South Park game will go elsewhere, likewise the WWE, Saints Row and Dawn of War games.

Stick of Truth
The fate of almost-ready South Park: Stick of Truth is up in the air too

Apparently in the run up to the auction on the 22nd January, EA executives have met with THQ at its headquarters and the company listed as a potential buyer of certain titles according to Eurogamer. It seems unlikely based on this that EA will scoop up the lot – though it undoubtedly has the capital for it – so it'll be interesting to see which ones it picks.

The most likely is the WWE sports games, since EA already dominates in that arena. Company of Heroes and Dawn of War are also possible, since EA has a strong history with the Command and Conquer series of RTS titles.

Other interested parties include Warner Bros. and Ubisoft.

KitGuru Says: Take a swing at it guys. Which games do you think EA would be most interested in?

We spent a while thinking about jokes relating to Blizzard moving to Egypt (cos they're living in denial), but we'll probably just stick with the facts-jack. When you choose to let the spirit slip away, once and for all, in Warcraft – something kind of interesting happens. KitGuru pulls out PhoneCam at crucial moment when warrior commits suicide.

Nothing lasts forever. If you're not sure, ask Microsoft how its monopoly on operating systems is going. Blizzard's World of Warcraft not only brought Dungeons and Dragons action to the masses, it made it cool enough to get its own, high-quality TV programming. At the peak of its popularity, Warcraft was attracting subscribers by the million. Now, as recently reported on KitGuru, it is losing members on a similar scale.

At the same time EA, Bioware and Lucasarts have managed to pull off a great launch with Star Wars: The Old Republic (SW:TOR)  – with some very impressive sales figures.

How impressive?  Well it past the 1 million mark in less than 3 days. Before the end of December, SW:TOR members had already clocked up 60 million man-hours of game time, completed over 260 million quests and vanquished over 3 billion enemies. Yep, we can certainly feel the force.

If you encountered a Sith Lord called Zardon, would he find your lack of Faith disturbing?

At the start of February, we can report that sales of SW:TOR have now passed the 2 million mark.

OK, you get it. Warcraft is on life support and SW:TOR is learning to walk – so why the headline?  Simple. When you end your Blizzard subscription, the Warcraft creators want to know what you are falling on your sword for the last time. It presents a menu of ‘places you might go next' so it can track the market. Notice anything missing from the form?

KitGuru says: If Blizzard's aim is to achieve a phantastique state of extreme denial, then it might be on to a winner. However, if the WoW powers that be want to know how much and how badly they are losing ground to SW:TOR, then a different research option is needed.

“Ever Play a War Game?  You Are Likely a War CRIMINAL!”

KitGuru announced the startling news that the International Committee of the Red Cross may very well be changing video games like Call of Duty and Battlefield. The Red Cross wants to uphold the rulings of the Geneva Convention, extending human rights laws to protect virtual soldiers.  Game developers may soon be made to integrate international laws of humanity into video games, or the Red Cross may “encourage governments to create laws that regulate the gaming industry.”  Tell us what you think about this possible development at the above link.

Serious Sam 3: BFE Review (PC)

Serious Sam has earned ‘cult’ status on the PC platform. The first two titles proved to be big sellers for Croteam, targeting the first person shooter audience who just wanted a good old ‘run and gun’ style experience. I have been playing the latest iteration in the series now for the last week and have found it both fun, and incredibly challenging.

For all this and more, make sure to check out Kitguru gaming.
