Reports are circulating that Kaby Lake Core i7-7700K CPUs are hitting temperature spikes of 90ºC (194ºF) for no apparent reason, even on non-overclocked builds.

If micro-stuttering complaints weren't already widely known, according to a reader on The Register who goes by the name Bastard-Wizard, the flagship Intel chips will, for no reason at all, kick themselves into overdrive and start heating up like crazy, reaching a temperature well beyond what you'd accept for an internal component. The spikes are even affecting systems with more advanced cooling systems, like closed-circuit liquid coolers.

While Intel rates the Tjunction maximum temp of the Core i7-7700K as 100ºC (212ºF), users are livid with the thought their hard-earned cash is going towards global warming, while their radiator/fans rev up into an annoying whine, or simply feel cheated by the fact they feel there is no real reason for it to happen.

It seems users have also been begging Intel for a fix, ever since the issue was first detected shortly after its launch, but Intel has fallen short of a satisfactory answer. In a forum post, the chipmaker is attributing the temperature spikes to normal computing peaks, like when you load up an app on your PC, although, arguably, it would take a very heavy task to drive up the temperature like that.

KitGuru Says: What has been your experience with the Core i7-7700K? Have you tripped on the same issue, or is the prevalence ‘few and far between'? Do tell us in the comments…

Looking to shun the typical Hollywood style award ceremonies of the movie industry, VGX has announced its entertainment lineup for its award show, set to take place on the 7th December in an “intimate setting,” and be streamed live across a huge variety of devices. See which game won game of the year, alongside exclusive premiers of upcoming titles and interviews with industry veterans.

To kick the event off with style, VGX will incorporate performances of the music of GTA V, featuring many of the artists found on the soundtrack. There will also be an appearance by South Park creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, who will be showing off an exclusive sneak preview of the hotly anticipated (and regularly delayed) South Park: The Stick of Truth.

VGX also wants you to tell it which your game of the year was. Vote here

Other unreleased games that will get a look in include: “Titanfall,” “Quantum Break,” “South Park: The Stick of Truth,” “Broken Age,” “Dying Light,” “Tom Clancy’s The Division,” and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.” There's also talk of an unannounced Wii U game being demod by Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime.

If you want to tune in and check this out, there's a multitude of ways to watch. The show will be streaming live on Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles, along with a Twitch stream, both Android and iOS devices and via the website VGXLive.com. Other sites will have a stream too though, including Hulu, Yahoo Screen, ComedyCentral.com, MTV.com, MTV2.com, Bet.com and GameTrailers.com. It'll last three hours starting 11PM GMT.

KitGuru Says: You'll be able to live tweet your questions and comments through too. Sounds like a pretty interactive, modern-day gaming experience. This might be worth checking out.

Microsoft has been doing a lot of promotion for the Xbox One – understandably – but it's also been helping promote the countdown to launch show, set to debut on Spike a couple of hours before the 12AM official release, with a few short trailers hinting at upcoming games.

I'd say let's play a little (and easy) game of guess which-game-they're referencing, but the previews have them listed in the title, so it's ruined. Sorry guys.

The Spike TV countdown event does have a bit of a description on the official site, but the official listing hasn't been finished as its cuts off half way through: “Celebrate the launch of a new generation of games and entertainment live from New York and Los Angeles with performances from Macklemore & Ryan…”

If you want to tune in to the event and you're in the UK, you'll need to stay up late. It goes live on Thursday 21st November, at 11PM EST, which makes it around 4AM GMT.

KitGuru Says: While I don't have an Xbox One pre-ordered or plan to buy one any time soon, I'll be watching whatever equivalent coverage we have here in the UK. The PS4 might be available in the US already, but the launch of thee Xbox One is what kicks off the next gen if you ask me.
