Lexar's latest portable SSD has arrived, bringing with it faster speeds, USB Type-C connectivity and wide compatibility for gaming PCs and consoles, as well as smartphones like the iPhone 15.

The Lexar SL500 Portable SSD features a slim, aluminium unibody, making it small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, or on the back of an iPhone. With USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, you can expect read/write speeds of up to 2000MB/s and 1800MB/s. This makes it a decent option for portable game installs, whether they be for PC, Xbox One, or the PS4. Due to the requirements for running Xbox Series X/S and PS5 games from a secondary drive, you would only be able to use the drive for storing current-gen console titles.

The big selling point here is the mobile support. The SL500 Portable is compatible with Apple Pro Res recording, so you can shoot video straight to the drive at full 4K and 60FPS with an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max. The SSD also comes with Lexar DataShield 256-bit AES encryption to keep files protected.

The SL500 Portable SSD is available in 2TB at $229.99 and will be available in a 4TB capacity at the end of Q2.

Sabrent has recently launched its newest M.2 NVMe PCIe 5.0 SSD, the Rocket 5. The new SSD naturally comes in the M.2-2280 form factor and is available as a bare drive with up to 4TB of storage. Better yet, it is equipped with a new Phison controller, enabling even faster speeds.

The new Rocket 5 series is powered by the Phison PS5026-E26 Maximum controller, Micron B58R 232-layer 3D NAND flash memory, and an LPDDR4-based DRAM cache. The Rocket 5 comes in three different storage capacities: 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB.

Sabrent claims that the Phison controller on the SSD allows for the drive to achieve sequential read and write rates of up to 14 GB/s and 12 GB/s, respectively. The drive can also support 4K random reads and writes up to 1.55 million and 1.8 million IOPS, respectively.

Rocket 5 SSD variants with a heatsink equipped with a 20mm fan, two copper heat pipes, and a small fin stack will be available at a later date. Sabrent is currently running a “promotion” of the new Rocket 5 series, putting the 4TB model in the Rocket 5 series at $730 (down from $900), the 2TB model at $340 (down from $440), and the 1TB model at $190 (down from $270).

Crucial looks to be cooking up its fastest PCIe 5.0 SSD yet, with a new Crucial T705 appearing online, complete with a full spec sheet. The SSD will offer up to 14.5 GB/s read speeds and will come available with a black or white heatsink.

The previous model, the T700, was released last year and was Crucial's fastest SSD when it launched. It was highly regarded as one of the best M.2 SSDs and received numerous awards, as it was mostly unrivalled by PCIe 4.0 SSDs and because other manufacturers were yet to release their first PCIe 5.0 SSDs. Even so, after other PCIe 5.0 storage drives were released, the T700 maintained its position as a top-performing SSD. However, early indications suggest that the new Crucial T705 and T705 Limited Edition will surpass its predecessor in performance.

Although the datasheet shared by Deepblue for the Crucial T705 does not provide details about the controller, DRAM cache, and endurance, it reveals that the SSD will be available with or without a heatsink and with 1TB, 2TB, or 4TB of storage. The Limited Edition model offers 2TB storage and comes with a white heatsink, as shown by @momomo_us.

The most significant change in the T705 spec sheet is the performance improvement, with data read rates increasing from 12,400 MB/s to 14,500 MB/s, depending on the storage capacity. The sequential write speeds were also improved, with the fastest variants of the T705 going up to 12,700 MB/s. This boost in performance is most likely due to the new controller, which has not been disclosed yet. The cache specs may also contribute to the higher performance, but we can't be sure since the details are unknown.

Samsung has published the product page for their upcoming 990 Evo NVMe SSD, revealing all the details about the world's first hybrid PCIe 4.0/PCIe 5.0 SSD.

Despite the five-year gap between the two models, the 990 Evo (via WinFuture) only offers a minor improvement over its predecessor. The 990 Evo does not reach the maximum potential of PCIe 4.0 with four lanes, which is approximately 8,000 MB/s. Instead, Samsung's flagship PCIe 4.0 SSD remains the 990 Pro, with the 990 Evo positioned between it and the 970 Evo Plus.

The most notable feature of the 990 Evo is its support for PCIe 5.0, but only with two lanes (equivalent to four PCIe 4.0 lanes). Although it's unique, the benefit is not clear. PCIe 4.0 SSDs perform well in PCIe 5.0 slots, so there's no technical reason for Samsung to use two PCIe 5.0 lanes on the 990 Evo, more so if its PCIe 4.0 connection does not even limit it.

However, there is one specific situation where these two PCIe 5.0 lanes might be useful. Although the bandwidth for two PCIe 5.0 lanes and four PCIe 4.0 lanes is the same, there is a difference if the data connection only has two lanes. On a PCIe 5.0 interface with two lanes, a PCIe 4.0 SSD can only use two lanes, cutting the maximum bandwidth supported by half. In comparison, the 990 Evo could maintain its typical bandwidth since it can operate those two lanes at PCIe 5.0 speeds.

KitGuru says: Have you ever owned a Samsung SSD? Do you think the 990 Evo will have the same success as its predecessor?

MSI has recently announced the launch of its next-generation flagship SSD, the Spatium M570 Pro Frozr. This SSD was designed to provide lightning-fast read and write speeds, achievable thanks to the Phison E26 PCIe 5.0 controller and high-grade 3D NAND flash. Alongside the M570 Pro Frozr, MSI unveiled another mainstream PCIe 4.0 SSD, the Spatium M482.

The Spatium M570 Pro Frozr PCIe 5.0 NVMe M.2 SSD‘s core innovation is the Frozr passive SSD thermal technology, featuring machined heat pipes and an extensive surface heatsink. These components work together to transfer heat from the M570 Pro and distribute it down the whole length of the heatsink, enabling airflow through and lowering temperatures by up to 20°C. The U-shaped Core Pipes and flattened heat pipe surface provide excellent heat transmission to the top and centre of the surfaced heatsink, transforming the Frozr into a game-changing solution for maintaining throughput under high loads.

Available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB storage options, this SSD is powered by the latest Phison E26 PCIe 5.0 controller technology with cutting-edge 3D NAND flash. All of this together allows the SSD to provide transfer rates of up to 12,400MB/s sequential read and 11,800MB/s sequential write speeds.

The Spatium M482 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD was designed to fulfil the needs of mainstream SSD buyers. This SSD is compliant with PCIe Gen 4 and NVMe 1.4 standards and offers transfer rates of up to 7300MB/s sequential read and 6400MB/s sequential write. There are two storage capacities available: 1TB and 2TB.

Both SSDs offer various data error correction features such as LPDC ECC and E2E Data Protection. Additionally, these SSDs have a high TBW (Terabytes Written) for exceptional endurance and lifespan and come with a 5-year limited guarantee.

KitGuru says: PCIe 5.0 SSDs do generate quite a bit of heat at high loads so it will be interesting to see how well MSI's new Frozr passive cooler holds up.

One common issue with high-performance SSDs is overheating, but this can be solved with a heatsink. For this mini SSD, Patriot has added an ultra-thin graphene heat spreader to keep thermals in check during extended gaming sessions.

The VP4000 Mini M.2 2230 SSD is designed to work with various devices, from handheld gaming consoles like the Steam Deck to compact PCs, laptops, and tablets like the Microsoft Surface. The SSD will become available in 2024.

Black Friday sales have arrived in force, with most major stores now offering big discounts on all things tech. Here, we break down some of the best PC component deals we've spotted so far, including graphics cards, processors, motherboards, AIO liquid coolers, RAM and more. If you are looking for a fresh upgrade, or to just pick up some new parts for a future build while they are cheap – we have you covered.

Starting off with graphics cards, there are some very good deals to be found on current-gen AMD GPUs right now. For instance, the Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 XT Nitro+ is currently £100 off and comes with a free copy of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Typically, this graphics card costs £899.99 but it is now down to £799.99. One rung down the ladder we find the Sapphire RX 7800 XT Nitro+, down from its usual price of £599.99 to £518.99.

The MSI Radeon RX 7900 XTX Gaming Trio Classic with 24GB of VRAM is currently £200 off, bringing the price down to £899. If you would like to save some money by going with an RX 6000 series GPU, then the MSI RX 6750 XT is now down to £329.99 at Ebuyer and Scan,

On the Nvidia side, the MSI RTX 4060 Ti Ventus 3X graphics card has dropped from £419 to £375.87 on Amazon. The Gigabyte RTX 4060 EAGLE OC graphics card has dropped to under £300, bringing the price down to £280.99.

If only the very best of the current generation will do, then the Core i9-14900K can also be found with a discount, bringing the price down from £578.99 to £559.99.

The Intel Core i7-14700K is down from £419.99 to £399.95 and the Core i5-14600K is down from £319.99 to £299.99.

On the AMD side, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is hailed as the current best gaming CPU by many and it is now 10% off, bringing the price down from £419.99 to £379.99. If you want something a bit more powerful for editing and creator tools, then the Ryzen 9 7950X3D can now be found for £589.99.

For a cheaper upgrade to AMD's current generation of processors, the Ryzen 5 7600X is now down to £219.98 as well.

While the Ryzen 7000 series is excellent, the Ryzen 5000 series processors still hold up well and present an opportunity to save some cash. The Ryzen 7 5800X can now be found for £175, and the Ryzen 5 5600X can be found for under £150.

For motherboards, you can save on a good number of Socket AM4 and AM5 motherboards at the moment. The Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX has fallen under the £200 mark, as has the MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI motherboard. If you are looking for something a bit more high-end, then the MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK WIFI motherboard is down from £329.99 to £265.97. On the Socket AM4 front, the MPG X570S CARBON MAX is a good choice at £209.

The MSI Z790 Gaming PRO WiFi motherboard has dropped to £189.99 too. Elsewhere, the Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX can be found for £236.99. A budget-conscious Mini-ITX option can be found with the Gigabyte H610I DDR4, which is currently down to £87.99.

On the cooling front, there is also a lot to choose from. The Corsair Hydro X XH305i custom liquid cooling kit offers everything you need to set up your own custom loop, now down from £559.99 to £469.99 in both black and white colour options.

If you would prefer a simpler all-in-one liquid cooler, then the Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE LCD XT can be found at nearly £100 off, bringing the price down to £224.99 with a 360mm radiator. At the £150 mark, you can find the EKWB EK-Nucleus CR360, also including a 360mm radiator and ARGB fans. The Corsair H150i RGB Elite Performance comes in cheaper still, priced at £139.99. If you prefer a smaller 240mm cooler, then the H100i RGB ELITE can be found for £109.99.

Heading down to the sub-£100 bracket, the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360mm is a solid option at £99.95. The Aerocool Mirage L360 offers a 360mm radiator and ARGB fans for £69.95, and its 240mm sibling, the Mirage L240, is on sale for £59.99.

If you are in need of a memory boost for your system, then there are both DDR4 and DDR5 memory kits on sale this month. The Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 kit is down to £74.99. If you don't need flashy LEDs or stylised heatsinks, then the Crucial Pro 32GB 3200MHz DDR4 kit can be found for £47.99, or you could opt for the 64GB kit at £88.99.

DDR5 is your best option if you are building a fresh PC or making a modern platform upgrade. The Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB 6000MHz kit can be found for £120.99, or you could opt for the similarly spec'd Kingston Fury Beast 32GB kit at £120.05. If you have little desire for RGB, then the standard Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 kit can be found for £95.99. The Crucial Pro 32GB 5600MHz DDR5 kit with a simple, slim black heatsink can be found for £69.99.

For a speedy storage boost, there are many PCIe 4.0 SSDs to be found on sale too. The Corsair MP600 CORE XT offers 4TB of storage at just £167.99. The speedier Corsair MP600 PRO 2TB, which is also compatible with PS5 consoles, can be found for £125.99. Similarly, Western Digital's WD_Black SN850X 2TB SSD is down from £145.99 to £109.99.

The Crucial P5 Plus is another cost-effective option, offering 2TB of PCIe 4.0 storage for £90.99, or you could opt for the WD_Black SN770 2TB, which is down to £84.90. Finally, we have the Samsung 990 PRO 1TB model at £83.99.

PNY is revamping its line-up of SSDs with the new CS3150 PCIe Gen5 M.2 NVMe drives, available with up to 2TB of storage and with speeds of up to 12,000MB/s.

The CS3150 leverages an NVMe PCIe Gen5 x4 interface to deliver read/write speeds of up to 12,000MB/s and 11,000MB/s respectively, putting it amongst the fastest PCIe 5.0 drives available.

Running at those speeds increases thermals, so to keep things running cool, PNY ships these SSDs with an integrated heatsink, available in black, white or black with RGB LEDs if you prefer. Suppose you own multiple PNY RGB products, like the CS3150, XLR8 memory or an XLR8 graphics card. In that case, you can synchronise and control the RGB lighting through the VelocityX software, which also doubles as a graphics card overclocking tool.

These SSDs can take full advantage of Microsoft's DirectStorage technology, enabling even faster loading times in supported games. Even without that though, the speed upgrade of PCIe 5 will lead to snappy loading times regardless. For added security, these SSDs use TCG Opal 2.0 hardware encryption.

The 1TB CS3150 with integrated heatsink will be available in December, priced at $179.99. The RGB version will be available for $189.99.

Back in September, we reviewed the 4TB Lexar NM790 NVMe SSD. At the time, we were impressed by its speeds but pointed out that it really needed a heatsink to manage thermals for high-load situations. Now, Lexar is unveiling the NM790 SSD with heatsink, marketed towards gamers, both on PC and PS5.

The Lexar NM790 SSD with Heatsink is a solid option for a PS5 storage upgrade. You'll benefit from fast PCIe 4.0 speeds and better yet, it is a very affordable drive too, with the 2TB version coming in at $149.99.

As far as speeds go, you can expect up to 7400MB/s sequential read, up to 6500MB/s sequential write, with random read and write speeds of up to 1,100K IOPs. The addition of an integrated heatsink aids with cooling, allowing the SSD to reach high speeds more often and for longer periods.

There will be three capacities to choose from, with the 1TB model coming in at $79.99, 2TB at $149.99 and 4TB at $229.99. At launch, each one will be available on Amazon with a 10 percent discount, available until the 6th of November.

If you want to see more in-depth performance tests for the NM790, check out our previous review, HERE.

Stellar has a wide range of products that offer easy-to-use data recovery for consumer and business users alike. Stellar Data Recovery is a well-featured, powerful software suite with multiple versions to choose from. Today we're analysing the Data Recovery Technician software which adds RAID support to the mix.

Some time ago we had a chance to look at Stellar's Data Recovery Professional software, a powerful set of tools for recovering your lost data. Now we have the latest version (v11.0.0.4) of the next step up the ladder, Stellar Data Recovery Technician, which brings support for RAID array data recovery to the already very well-featured software package.

Data Recovery Technician is a comprehensive package that supports data recovery from SSDs, hard drives and USB drives formatted with NTFS, exFAT and FAT (FAT16/FAT32). Seagate is launching its first officially licensed Game Drive for PS5 consoles. The new M.2 SSD is designed to slot straight into the free slot in the PS5, allowing owners to expand storage and install more new-gen games.

Backwards compatible titles can run on PS5 (and Xbox Series X/S) through a hard drive but for new-gen games, an SSD is required. The PS5 doesn't ship with a ton of internal storage to begin with, with the internal SSD offering up around 700GB of usable storage space and with games like Call of Duty or sports games like Madden taking up well over 100GB each, that space fills up pretty fast.

The Seagate Game Drive PS5 NVMe SSD offers a solution. Offering PCIe Gen 4 technology and read/write speeds of up to 7300MB/s and 6000MB/s respectively. The SSD ships with a slimline heatsink pre-installed, which is designed to slot neatly into the PS5 without any issue. The heatsink should help keep temperatures in check for long gaming sessions.

The Seagate Game Drive PS5 NVMe SSD is available starting today, with the 1TB model priced at £99.90 and the 2TB version priced at £150. Right now on Amazon, both drives are on sale, so the 2TB one can be had for £116.99 and the 1TB model can be had for just £72.99.

The post Samsung Portable SSD T9 4TB Review first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Samsung's latest external SSD is the Portable SSD T9, the long-awaited successor to the popular T7. With a USB 3.2 Gen 2 x2 interface it offers twice the performance of the old T7. We review the 4TB model, coming in at just over £360 here in the UK.

At launch, the T9 range consists of three capacities; 1TB, 2TB and the flagship 4TB model we are reviewing here. What's inside the T9 is anybody's guess as Samsung hasn't released any details regarding the controller or the VNAND.

Thanks to its USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface, Samsung quotes performance figures for the range as up to 2,000MB/s for reads across the range while the 1TB and 2TB drives get an up to 1,950MB/s rating for writes. The 4TB drive is a little faster at up to 2,000MB/s.

The drive supports AES 256-bit hardware encryption and is drop-resistant to 3m. Samsung quote power figures for the 4TB T9 as 0.67W idle power and up to 7.3W peak power

Samsung backs the drive with a 5-year warranty which is an improvement over the T7 which only got three years.

Sony has rolled out its latest PS5 Software update to all users, enabling new features and improvements for the console. The headlining feature here is an increase in M.2 SSD storage compatibility. Following this update, you’ll now be able to add an extra 8TB of storage to the PS5 console.

Previously, the PS5 supported secondary M.2 SSDs up to 4TB, which was already a huge upgrade over the console’s included sub-1TB SSD. Out of the box, the PS5 typically offers just under 700GB of storage for games. Now, PCIe 4 SSDs up to 8TB will be usable with the PS5, so if you are the type of person that absolutely hates uninstalling games, then this update is for you.

This update also solidifies one of the PS5’s biggest design leads in this console generation. Sony offers an accessible M.2 SSD slot for users to install their own third-party M.2 SSD to expand system storage. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X/S consoles offer expandable storage through a proprietary memory card slot, meaning there are more restrictions on consumer choice for expanding the Xbox’s storage compared to the PS5.

Aside from the increased storage amount, this new PS5 Software Beta also includes new UI improvements and quality of life changes. Dolby Atmos is now supported on the console, even with games that use Sony’s new 3D Audio tech. You’ll also be able to use Dolby Atmos in streaming apps and Blu-Ray playback.

In terms of QoL features, if you’d like to disable the PS5’s startup beep sound, you can now do so within the settings menu. Users can now also assign a second controller to an account as an assist controller, so you can quickly pick up a gamepad and help someone get through a tough part in a game. The update also contains improvements to the PS5's voice commands, which can be activated via the microphone in the DualSense controller.

The update is rolling out now to all PS5 users after a full month of beta testing. Those in the PS5 beta program will have had access to these features since early August. The PS5 beta program is open to anyone with a PS5 console, so you can sign up to receive new updates early, but do be warned that beta software can contain bugs.

KitGuru Says: The PS5’s M.2 SSD slot is one of its best features. Not many people are going to want to shell out the cash for an 8TB M.2 SSD that meets the speed requirements needed for PS5 game installations, but those that do also probably have the kind of game collection that requires massive storage.

Last spring, Xbox released its first Summer Collection of accessories, made up of a number of gaming peripherals in soft colours. This year, we're getting a second edition of this collection following a similar approach with eye-catching designs.

The new Designed for Xbox Summer Collection 2023 offers up seven products to help Xbox players stand out from the crowd. Made by a selection of Xbox partners, each item has a unique style that will make your setup a bit more colourful.

Audeze has made a stylish, limited-edition “Ultraviolet” version of their popular Maxwell game headset for this year's collection. An electroplating process was used to carefully add a colour-shifting finish to the ear cups and collar of the Maxwell headset for the collection. The result is a gorgeously one-of-a-kind look.

The Audeze Maxwell Ultraviolet Edition wireless headset features Bluetooth 5.3 LE Audio, Dolby Atmos, and AI Noise Filtering to improve your wireless gaming experience. Asus has introduced an interesting concept for consumer graphics cards that aims to address the issue of unused PCIe lanes. Currently, entry-level and mid-range graphics cards use a full-sized 16-lane slot, despite only requiring 8 lanes. To make use of the remaining lanes, Asus has proposed integrating high-speed SSD storage onto the graphics card itself.

In a video featuring Tony Yu (via @Olrak29_), GM at Asus, we see a concept RTX 4060 Ti Dual graphics card with a Samsung 980 Pro 2TB SSD attached to the backside. This design allows for easier accessibility to the SSD compared to traditional motherboard installations, which are often located in tight spaces that require the removal of other components.

One concern with this integration is the increased power requirement. However, the added power draw should not exceed 10W, meaning the single 8-pin power connector should still be enough. Tony Yu also addresses potential heat issues arising from connecting the SSD to the graphics card. To mitigate this, the PCB has been modified to allow airflow from the GPU cooler to reach the SSD. The cooler is directly attached to the SSD using thermal pads, and with triple-fan configurations, the cooling efficiency can be further improved. Performance also seems pretty much unaffected, as the SSD recorded 6.8 GB/s instead of 6.9 GB/s for peak sustained read speed.

It's worth noting that Asus is not the first to incorporate on-board SSDs into graphics cards. AMD previously implemented this concept with the Radeon SSG, based on the Vega architecture, but the implementation was less convenient.

KitGuru says: Asus's concept of integrating SSD storage onto graphics cards offers the potential for improved accessibility, reduced clutter, and efficient cooling. Although promising, it's unclear whether mainstream mid-range graphics cards will adopt this idea.

In a first for Bethesda, you will need an SSD.

The post Starfield PC system requirements announced first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Bethesda has recently released the official PC system requirements for their highly anticipated space RPG, Starfield. The specifications provided by the developer are within our expectations, but one thing that popped out was the need for 125GB of available space on an SSD.

It is worth noting that a standard SATA SSD will suffice for playing the game; there is no need for an NVMe SSD. Considering the current gaming landscape in 2023, it is safe to assume that the majority of gamers are already using SATA SSDs rather than HDDs. Therefore, these requirements do not seem unreasonable.

The minimum required CPUs listed by Bethesda are the AMD Ryzen 5 2600X and the Intel Core i7-6800K. Additionally, the game will require a minimum of 16GB of RAM. For GPUs, the AMD Radeon RX 5700 and the Nvidia GeForce 1070 Ti are listed as the minimum requirements. For optimal performance, Bethesda recommends using an AMD Ryzen 5 3600X or the Intel i5-10600K CPU, along with an AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT or the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 GPU. The detailed requirements can be found below:

MINIMUM:

  • OS: Windows 10 version 2004 (10.0.19041.0)
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6800K
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5700, Nvidia GeForce 1070 Ti
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 125 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: SSD required

RECOMMENDED:

  • OS: Windows 10/11 with updates
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, Intel i5-10600K
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 125 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: SSD required

Unfortunately, specific details regarding targeted resolutions, settings, and framerates for these PC specifications have not been provided, but there could be more detailed system requirements announced closer to launch.

MSI has recently unveiled its latest flagship PCIe 4.0 SSD, the Spatium M480 Pro. This SSD is constructed with high-density 3D NAND flash, delivering 7400MB/s sequential read and 7000 sequential write speeds.

The Spatium M480 Pro SSDs are available with 1 TB, 2 TB, or 4 TB of storage capacity. With compliance with PCIe Gen 4 and NVMe 1.4 standards, these SSDs offer transfer speeds of up to 7400MB/s sequential read and 7000MB/s sequential write speeds.

The Spatium M480 Pro HS is the pinnacle of the SPATIUM lineup. The bronze-coloured aluminium heatsink with a stacked fin structure efficiently dissipates heat, reducing the SSD temperature by up to 20°C under load, according to MSI. Then, there's the Spatium M480 Pro Play, the series' product aimed at the PlayStation 5 and other devices where a tall SSD heatsink may not fit. Despite being smaller, the dual-finish aluminium heatsink can still efficiently dissipate the heat generated during operation, preventing the drive from throttling. Lastly, the standard M480 Pro ships without a heatsink.

All models support a comprehensive range of data error correction features, including LPDC ECC and E2E Data Protection, and offer a high-rated TBW and a limited 5-year warranty.

MSI also offers an advanced software solution with system status monitoring and data backup, accessible via MSI Center. The user can view comprehensive information regarding the SSD status, including drive health, used capacity, and current operating temperature. Additionally, MSI has partnered with Actiphy to allow users who bought and installed MSI SSDs to create backups using its tool.

Back in January, Corsair accidentally revealed a few details about its flagship MP700 PCIe Gen5 M.2 SSD. The SSD promised to deliver faster performance than many options currently on the market, and now, it is finally ready for an official launch.

Following on from January's leak, today Corsair is officially launching the new MP700 SSD. Available in capacities up to 2TB, the MP700 promises strong PCIe Gen 5 performance, including up to 10,000MB/s read/write speeds. On top of the impressive sequential throughput, the SSD also has good random read/write performance of up to 1.5 million IOPS.

If the SSD is capable of hitting those speeds, then it will be roughly 40 percent faster than even the best PCIe 4.0 SSDs. However, as a PCIe 5 SSD, Corsair does recommend additional cooling, either via a motherboard's integrated M.2 cooling solution, or with a custom solution, like the Corsair Hydro X series M.2 water block.

The Corsair MP700 SSD is available as of today, priced at £169.99 for the 1TB version and £279.99 for the 2TB version.

Corsair is unveiling two new PCIe 4 SSDs today, the MP600 Mini with its ultra-compact M.2 2230 form factor, and the MP600 Core XT, a more traditional M.2 2280 SSD.

The MP600 Mini stands out with its M.2 2230 form factor, measuring in at 22mm x 30mm. This is precisely the sort of SSD you would want to use when upgrading a portable handheld gaming system like Valve's Steam Deck. The SSD is capable of PCIe Gen 4 performance of up to 4,800MB/s read/write speeds. Performance will degrade when using a PCIe Gen 3 interface.

The MP600 Core XT is a full-sized M.2 2280 SSD, available in 1TB, 2TB and 4TB capacities. The SSD uses 3D QLC NAND Flash to offer competitive performance at a lower price. This particular drive is capable of PCIe Gen 3 speeds of up to 5,000MB/s reads and 4,400MB/s writes, making it around 10x faster than a SATA SSD.

The Corsair MP600 Mini is priced at £114.99 for 1TB. The Corsair MP600 Core XT starts at £64.99 for the 1TB model, £119.99 for the 2TB model and £289.99 for the 4TB model.
