Way back in 2015, the creators behind the popular StarCrafts animated web series managed to raise $100,000 to create a cartoon mod for StarCraft 2, transforming the game to look exactly like the cartoon series. The mod was limited and only available through Arcade Mode but a much more comprehensive overhaul is now coming to StarCraft Remastered.

Blizzard re-launched StarCraft 1 last year in remastered form, bringing the classic RTS up to date for modern machines. Now, Blizzard has officially partnered up with CarBot Animations, the group behind the StarCrafts series on YouTube. Together, they will be releasing an official graphics pack that will overhaul the entire game, rather than just one or two select maps.

The graphics pack has been in the works for over a year and transforms all assets and in-game cut scenes, giving fans to embrace the sillier side of StarCraft properly this time around.

The StarCraft Cartooned graphics pack for StarCraft Remastered has launched today with a £9/$10 price tag, which is on the steeper end of things but by the looks of it, a lot of work did go into this. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we will be getting a similar official graphics pack for StarCraft 2, mainly due to the extra number of assets, maps and the entirely different engine used for SC 2.

KitGuru Says: I'm really glad Blizzard decided to team up with CarBot to release something official this time around, although it is a shame that StarCraft 2 won't be getting the same treatment. Did any of you play the original mod? Will you be getting the graphics pack for StarCraft Remastered?

Earlier this year, Blizzard announced StarCraft Remastered, the first of its classic games to be brought back and upgraded. Now with a couple more months of development under its belt, Blizzard is ready to announce that we'll be able to get our hands on StarCraft: Remastered in August this year, with a $15 price tag.

Back when StarCraft: Remastered was announced, Blizzard began giving away the original version of the game for free. If you want to upgrade to the remaster, which features 4K resolution support, better audio and Battle.net integration, it will cost $14.99/£12.99.

The game itself is releasing on the 14th of August, putting the original StarCraft and the Brood War expansion back in the spotlight. The hope is that this re-release will act as a renaissance for StarCraft in Korea, as the game used to be hugely popular over there but that enthusiasm diminished over the course of StarCraft 2.

If you don't feel like the upgrades made in the remaster are worth the price tag, then you can always grab the classic version of the game for free.

KitGuru Says: StarCraft is one of the all-time greats when it comes to RTS, though I must admit, the remaster's graphical upgrade didn't seem that noteworthy when the first screenshots were released. Still, it will be fun to go back and replay this. Are any of you looking forward to the StarCraft Remaster later this year?

It looks like last week's Starcraft Remastered rumour held some truth to it as over the weekend, Blizzard dropped its announcement, giving us a trailer and a release date for the game. This remaster features a graphical overhaul for the game, though gameplay has been kept the same with no major mechanic changes.

Those of you playing Starcraft for the story will get to experience ‘revived audio and dialogue', so there will be some changes in that area. This remaster does feature the base game and Brood War expansion, so there is plenty to get through before diving in to multiplayer. Speaking of which, with this being a 2017 release, Blizzard has updated Starcraft to run on Battle.net (now just known as the Blizzard App) so diving into matchmaking games will be easy.

As far as graphics go, Blizzard has remastered units, buildings, and environments. However, judging from the screenshots, the game still captures the old-school RTS look and feel, it just looks nicer at higher resolutions. The game's UI has also been kept in tact, so if you played the original game, you won't have to relearn where everything is, you should be able to just pick up and play.

Starcraft Remastered doesn't have a specific release date just yet but we are expecting it to launch sometime over the Summer.

KitGuru Says: After the persistent rumours and speculation, I am glad to finally see Starcraft Remastered announced. This may encourage plenty of people to go back and experience the original game, either again or for the first time. Are any of you guys looking forward to Starcraft Remastered?
