As fans eagerly await the release of ConcernedApe’s new game – Haunted Chocolatier – many are continuing to purchase and play the indie studio’s previous title: Stardew Valley. Having released back in 2016, the farming game has only continued to get better and better – with the release date for its upcoming 1.6 update coinciding with the announcement that the game has now sold 30 million copies.

Making the announcement on its website, Stardew Valley’s developer – ConcernedApe – revealed that “As of February 2024, Stardew Valley has sold over 30 million copies across all platforms, with over 19 million copies sold on PC alone.”

This makes Stardew Valley easily one of the best selling games of all time, currently sharing its position with Diablo III and 2019’s Modern Warfare reboot.

Interestingly, Stardew Valley reached 20 million copies sold back in May of 2022, meaning it has shifted an additional 10 million units in less than two years.

With update 1.6 set to arrive on the 19th of March, it will be interesting to see just how long the game will continue to sell for – and whether we will be reporting on its next major milestone even sooner than expected.

Stardew Valley has been nothing if not a massive labour of love, with primary developer ConcernedApe continually updating the game with massive features, additions and changes over the past 7 years or so. Despite them having announced their next game (Haunted Chocolatier) quite a while ago now, work on Stardew Valley is continuing, with update 1.6 being officially announced.

Taking to Twitter, Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe officially announced the next major update for the farming sim, saying “There is going to be a Stardew 1.6 update. It's mostly changes for modders (which will make it easier & more powerful to mod). But there is also new game content, albeit much less than 1.5. I'm taking a break from Haunted Chocolatier to work on this at the moment. Then back to HC.”

Adding more powerful modding tools is a major win for the game – which already has a rather active modding community. In terms of the aforementioned new game content, ConcernedApe has remained rather silent on the matter, though in response to one fan they did confirm that this update will bring with it more dialogue for the characters – a welcome addition indeed.

Though update 1.6 will offer less content than 1.5, the prior update was absolutely huge, adding a whole new region to the world; 10 new enemies; almost a dozen new farm features; new clothing; more food options; new quest items; new weapons, fish and furniture; new hairstyles; and many quality of life and balance changes.

All that said, despite being a smaller update than 1.5, the improved modding tools set to be launched with 1.6 will ensure that Stardew Valley continues to see new content for many years to come – whether in an official capacity or not.

KitGuru says: Are you excited for update 1.6? What features/changes do you want to see included? How many hours do you have in the game? Let us know down below.

We have seen a decent number of indie developers bring their fully-fledged console/PC games to the mobile platform, with one of the biggest being the hit farming simulator Stardew Valley. Like with many mobile ports however, the game is lagging behind when it comes to updates. Fortunately, the game’s latest and greatest 1.5 update has finally come to iOS and Android, bringing near-feature-parity to the game.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the primary developer for Stardew Valley – ConcernedApe – revealed that “The mobile 1.5 update has been submitted for iOS and Android, and will start rolling out to users over the next few days. The update should already be available to some on Android.”

While undoubtedly exciting, there are a few things to keep note of however, with ConcernedApe saying “On Android you will be asked to do a 1 time save file transfer. This was necessary because of new operating system rules concerning file access.”

Interestingly, the developer revealed that 1.5 serves as a major rewrite for the entire mobile app, meaning that while currently players may encounter new bugs, it should allow for much faster development of future updates on mobile. Considering the fact that 1.6 has long been underway, this is undoubtedly good news.

Update 1.5 is huge and comes with countless additions, changes and fixes, including but certainly not limited to:

  • The addition of an entire new region of the world, Ginger Island
  • Added new locations, dialogue, events, minigames, puzzles, and a quest line involving multiple NPCs
  • Added Qi challenges which unlock rare or unique items
  • Added an unlockable resort you can open to let villagers visit the islands, including new beach attire and schedules
  • Added a volcano dungeon which changes each time you visit it similar to the mines
  • Added secrets and puzzles to discover around the island
  • Added 9 new enemies

Update 1.5 is huge and has been a long time coming for mobile Stardew Valley players. Better late than never however, and with how big the update is, it is certainly worth the long wait. It is exciting to see that future updates will be much faster however.

As fans eagerly await the release of ConcernedApe’s new game – Haunted Chocolatier – many are continuing to purchase and play the indie studio’s previous title: Stardew Valley. Having released back in 2016, the farming game has only continued to get better and better, with this reflecting the game’s commercial success, now selling over 20 million copies.

Back in September 2021, we reported that Stardew Valley had surpassed 15 million copies sold. At the time, this was an impressive figure, especially for a game developed primarily by a single person. Since then however, the studio announced their new and upcoming title: Haunted Chocolatier.

It seems this new game announcement had the fortunate effect of boosting the number of eyes on Stardew Valley as ConcernedApe has now officially announced that “As of March 2022, Stardew Valley has sold over 20 million copies across all platforms, with 13 million copies sold on PC alone.”

This is incredibly impressive, and makes the farming game one of the best selling games of all time, having outsold every single Capcom game ever. While this milestone was achieved over the course of 6 years – since the game’s launch on the 26th of February 2016 – the indie title managed to amass a big audience in a very short amount of time, selling over 1 million copies in its first 2 months on the market.

Of course, the recent resurgence in the game’s popularity is what helped push Stardew Valley to new heights commercially. With ConcernedApe moving focus to Haunted Chocolatier, it will be interesting to see whether Stardew’s rate of success is set to slow down slightly. Regardless, even if the game never sold another copy, Stardew Valley is an undeniable success.

December has officially begun and the first wave of additions to the Xbox Game Pass library for the month have been announced. Obviously, this month's biggest game is Halo Infinite, but there are other notable games coming over the next few weeks , including Aliens: Fireteam Elite, Stardew Valley, Among Us and more.

On the 2nd of December, ANVIL, Archvale, Final Fantasy 13-2, Lawn Mowing Simulator, Rubber Bandits, Stardew Valley and Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector will be added to Xbox Game Pass, followed by Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator and Halo Infinite on the 7th and 8th of December. On the 9th of December, Manga fans can dive into One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 and finally, on the 14th of December, Among Us (console) and Aliens: Fireteam Elite will also be added. With the exception of Among Us, all other games listed here are coming to Game Pass on console and PC.

Unfortunately, some games have to leave the Game Pass rotation to make room for new releases. On the 15th of December, six games will be leaving Xbox Game Pass, including:

  • Beholder (cloud and console)
  • The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan (console and PC)
  • Guacamelee! 2 (cloud, console and PC)
  • Wilmot's Warehouse (cloud, console and PC)
  • Unto The End (cloud, console and PC)
  • Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair (cloud, console and PC)

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will also get access to some new perks this month, including a Halo Infinite multiplayer bundle, which includes four XP boosts, four challenge swaps and a skin for the in-game assault rifle.

KitGuru Says: What do you all think of this month's Xbox Game Pass additions so far? Will you be giving any of these titles a download over the next couple of weeks?

Stardew Valley proved to be a massive success, far exceeding the expectations of the game’s single developer, ConcernedApe. With more than 15 million copies sold over the course of 5 years, many fans were waiting to see what the creator had planned next. Now, he has officially announced a brand new game, titled ‘Haunted Chocolatier’.

In a surprise announcement, ConcernedApe officially showed off his next game. Haunted Chocolatier is described as an RPG/simulation game where “you will play as a chocolatier living in a haunted castle. In order to thrive in your new role, you will have to gather rare ingredients, make delicious chocolates, and sell them in a chocolate shop.”

As with Stardew Valley, the game goes much deeper than that, however fans will have to wait till release to find out. Speaking of, Haunted Chocolatier is likely to be many years away, as according to ConcernedApe, “I started working on this game a little over 1 year ago, in 2020. Since then, I've been working on it mostly in evenings and on the weekends, because I'm still actively working on Stardew Valley related things. I can't commit to a release date yet. It's still relatively early in development and I want to be able to work in peace without the pressure of a release date, or even an estimated release date.”

Though very little else is known currently, the game is confirmed to be single player only (though so was Stardew Valley initially), and as of right now the game is only being developed for PC, though according to ConcernedApe “ I have every intention of bringing it to the other major platforms as well.”

Stardew Valley continues to see major updates and support from both ConcernedApe and fans of the game. With how successful Stardew Valley is, it will be interesting to see how reception for Haunted Chocolatier pans out when the game eventually releases. Can ConcernedApe catch lighting in a bottle twice?

While many may assume that the best selling games are always the ones with the greatest amount of marketing push behind them, this isn't always the case. In fact, many of the biggest games in the world started their lives as indie titles. Such is the case with Stardew Valley, which has now officially sold over 15 million copies.

As discovered by GameDeveloper.com, Stardew Valley’s website was recently updated with a stealthy amendment announcing the fact that “Since release, the game has sold over 15 million copies worldwide.”

This is incredibly impressive, and makes the farming game one of the best selling games of all time, having outsold every single Capcom game ever (aside from Monster Hunter: World). While this milestone was achieved over the course of 5 years – since the game’s launch on the 26th of February 2016 – the indie title managed to amass a big audience in a very short amount of time, selling over 1 million copies in its first 2 months on the market.

To this day, Stardew Valley continues to receive updates, with fans sticking through it all the while. With such long-standing free post-launch support for the game, it is not a surprise to see the game managing to suck in more than 15 million players. Currently, the game’s development studio, ConcernedApe, is working on a number of other titles, including two which are set in the Stardew Valley universe. It will be interesting to see whether these games sell nearly as well as the studio’s first.

KitGuru says: Have you played Stardew Valley? What do you think of the game’s post-launch support? Do you think it will eventually outsell heavyweights such as Modern Warfare 2? Let us know down below.

Since its launch all the way back in 2016, ConcernedApe has continuously and consistently updated Stardew Valley with major and much-requested new features. The studio has now released its 1.5 patch, which represents perhaps one of the game’s biggest updates yet.

Available right now on PC, and coming to consoles “early next year” (with no current timeframe for mobile), Stardew Valley’s content update 1.5 is described as ”Stardew Valley’s biggest update yet!.”

The update adds “significant ‘late-game’ content to Stardew Valley,” most important of which is “an entire new region of the world, Ginger Island (part of the Fern Islands)”. Within this, there are “new locations, dialogue, events, minigames, puzzles, and a quest line involving multiple NPCs.”

Further additions include 10 new enemies; almost a dozen new farm features; new clothing; more food options; new quest items; new weapons, fish and furniture; new hairstyles; and many quality of life and balance changes.

All in all, update 1.5 adds hundreds of new items, with hundreds of more tweaks and changes. There’s no denying that content update 1.5 is Stardew Valley’s biggest yet. The full list of additions and changes can be found HERE.

Stardew Valley content update 1.5 is available right now for PC. the update will come to console some time “early next year,” with the update’s mobile release arriving sometime later – though there is currently no exact release window.

Apple recently hosted an event honouring the best games and apps of 2019. The company has since revealed which games were the most downloaded of the year. Nintendo’s ‘Mario Kart Tour’ took the top spot, despite only releasing in September. Other big winners include Minecraft and Stardew Valley.

Mario Kart Tour topped the charts for the most downloaded free iPhone game of the year. The game released at the end of September, to relatively mixed and negative reviews. It is therefore surprising to see that the title managed to become the most downloaded game of the year on iPhone in just over 2 months. That being said, the title did attain over 123 million downloads in its first month, so perhaps this achievement isn’t so surprising.

The most downloaded paid game on both iPhone and iPad was Minecraft. The title is consistently the most downloaded premium (paid) game of the month on the App Store, and is currently the best selling premium video game of all time, with over 180 million copies sold. The most downloaded free game on the iPad meanwhile was Roblox.

Other notable games on the list includes Stardew Valley. The indie farming title achieved 8th and 6th place on the most downloaded paid games for iPhone and iPad respectively. Call of Duty Mobile was the 4th most downloaded free game of 2019 on the iPhone. The first-person shooter was downloaded over 56.7 million times on Apple’s App store in its first week alone.

Lastly, Fortnite managed to stay in the charts. The battle royale game was the 8th and 6th most downloaded free game for iPhone and iPad respectively. The complete list of the most downloaded free and paid games on the iOS App Store can be found here.

Fans of Stardew Valley have been waiting for the game's coveted multiplayer mode for quite some time now. The multiplayer update was pushed back last year, planting it in a ‘Q1 2018' release window. Now, we finally have an update on that front, with Stardew Valley creator, Eric Barone, announcing that multiplayer features are “done”, with a beta set to land on PC in the spring.

Multiplayer is set to launch as part of Stardew Valley's big 1.3 update, which will also feature new single-player story content in addition to co-op gameplay. While the multiplayer feature set might be narrowed down and ready to implement, there is still work to be done before we can get our hands on it. For starters, the game needs to be translated into multiple languages and bug fixes are still needed.

Once all text in the game is translated and placed back in, the team at Chucklefish will “begin a serious QA phase involving thorough testing of all new features in both multiplayer and single player contexts”. Once that is wrapped up, a public beta will go live on PC, the studio is currently “shooting for a spring release”.

More details will be shared closer to the time, but it looks like significant progress has been made and we are now entering the final stretch leading up to release.

KitGuru Says: Once multiplayer lands, it will be a great excuse to return to my farm, or just start again from scratch. Do many of you currently own Stardew Valley? Will you be returning for the multiplayer update this year?

While we wait for Stardew Valley’s much anticipated multiplayer addition, its publisher Chucklefish has revealed more details on its new game. Teased last year, the yet untitled magical school-themed RPG is set to draw inspiration from a number of sources while building on the colourful art style made ever more popular by Stardew Valley.

Last month, Chucklefish founder Finn “Tiy” Brice took to Twitter to tease a sneak peek at the developer’s new game, stating that a lot of influence is coming from the highly successful Stardew Valley.

“Stardew Valley is a masterclass in establishing tone, charm and theme. We’ve taken that idea of simply falling in love with a game world and gone all in,” said Brice in an interview with PC Gamer. “The mechanics are going to be tight and that’s important, but from the outset our goal has been to create a game world that is entertaining and charming simply to inhabit.”

Many drew comparisons with other works of fiction, such as Little Witch Academia and, of course, J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter. Artist Abi Cooke Hunt reveals that inspiration was not limited to just these two. In fact, “Studio Ghibli’s rendition of Kiki’s Delivery Service, Garth Nix’s Old Kingdom series and Terry Pratchett’s Tiffany Aching books” have all played a role in influencing development on the new game.

While little is known about the game itself, those interested in the title can look forward to “many different kinds of magic/crafting/potion making/farming systems,” according to Brice and that there will be “a lot to do in the final game.”

KitGuru Says: If Chucklefish can extrapolate the charm that Stardew Valley had into another title, I am sure many people would lose their minds over it. It’s also relatively surprising that we haven’t seen a new IP bring the magical school theme into the forefront of the video game world since it is so popular in other media. What do you think of Chucklefish’s new game so far?

Stardew Valley may have released over a year ago but the developer behind it isn't done with updates just yet. Throughout 2016, Chucklefish updated the game a few times with interesting feature additions. However, perhaps the biggest feature being worked on right now is multiplayer, which is still in the works and will arrive on the PC version of Stardew Valley first.

Stardew Valley's co-op multiplayer is something that has been in the works for quite some time, so when the Nintendo Switch version of the game was announced with ‘console first' access to multiplayer, many thought that perhaps this meant that the multiplayer update would be coming over the Summer, when the Switch version releases.

Since then though, Chucklefish has clarified that multiplayer won't be shipping with the Nintendo Switch version of the game this Summer. In a statement the studio explained it would “take some more time” beyond the Summer to get the multiplayer finished up. Aside from that though, we also learned that while the Nintendo Switch will be the first console with multiplayer, PC owners of Stardew Valley will still be the first to receive the update.

KitGuru Says: I've been wanting to co-op through Stardew Valley for a long time now so hopefully the multiplayer update doesn't end up slipping into 2018. Do any of you own Stardew Valley? Have you been waiting on the multiplayer update?
