The 2023 Game Awards was a big night for video game announcements. Even so, SEGA showed up in a greater way than anyone could have expected, announcing nearly half a dozen new titles all at once – including the return of many iconic franchises.

In what they have called a ‘Power Surge’ SEGA announced that many of the publisher’s most iconic retro franchises are set to make a grand return, teasing the development of a bunch of new titles, namely:

  • Jet Set Radio
  • Shinobi
  • Golden Axe
  • Streets of Rage
  • Crazy Taxi

Despite the way it was presented, each of these titles will be their own unique games and based on the publisher’s wording, will be wholly new titles. While we have yet to get a proper look at the games, it is clear that SEGA is planning to take at least some of these projects in new directions, with the likes of Streets of Rage and Golden Axe adopting entirely new art styles and gameplay formulas. Fortunately, it seems as though Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi will remain much closer to their original incarnations.

Regardless, it is incredibly exciting to see all of these classic franchises returning in a new form – giving long-time fans a lot to look forward to while also reinventing the series for those who never gave them a shot previously. It will be interesting to see how long we’ll have to wait to hear more from any of these titles.

The debut trailer for Black Myth: Wukong took many by surprise when it was released back in early 2020, showing off what looked to be a highly-stylised and polished action-RPG from a previously unknown studio. Since then the team has continued to work diligently on the title, and following the announcement earlier this year that the game is planned to launch in 2024, the team have now given a concrete release date,

Announced during The Game Awards, the title’s developers ‘Game Science’ released a story-focused trailer which concluded with the reveal that Black Myth: Wukong will be launching officially on the 20th of August 2024.

As mentioned, when it was first revealed more than 3 years ago, Black Myth: Wukong caught the eyes of a great deal of players thanks to its high production value, excellent-looking gameplay and generation-leading graphics.

Of course, we have seen a whole bunch of beautiful titles in the interim years, and so it will be interesting to see what fans ultimately think of the game when Black Myth: Wukong arrives in August 2024.

When Larian first announced Baldur's Gate 3, we all thought it looked impressive but there was no predicting the level of success the final release would see. The game went on to become one of the highest-rated games of the year and now, Larian has capped things off by winning the GOTY award at the TGAs.

The Game Awards took place last night, with the coveted GOTY Award being delivered as the last major award of the show. Based on votes from a jury of 200 games media outlets, alongside millions of public fan votes, Baldur's Gate 3 won Game of the Year 2023.

Alongside this, Baldur's Gate 3 has now also launched on Xbox, so Larian has achieved its goal of getting the game out on PC, as well as Xbox and PlayStation consoles before the end of the year.

While games like Alan Wake II and Spider-Man 2 were in the running for the GOTY award at The Game Awards this year, in my mind, there were only two potential winners here – Baldur's Gate 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Both launched this year to high critical acclaim and both have a 96 overall score on Metacritic, ranking them amongst the best-rated titles of all time.

KitGuru Says: This is a huge win for Larian, which we tend to forget is a smaller independent studio, getting its break with Kickstarter and crowd-funding efforts. They've truly evolved the CRPG genre with BG3 and I think this opens the door for more games like this in the future to reach a huge audience.

We've already talked about Hellblade 2 and Arkane's Blade but Xbox wasn't stopping there with its Game Awards announcements. Hideo Kojima also appeared on stage, alongside director film Jordan Peele, to discuss his upcoming Xbox game.

Kojima's Xbox exclusive title is officially titled ‘OD', which ties in with previous rumours that the game would be called Overdose. Somewhere along the way, it would seem that Kojima decided to shorten it.

The trailer didn't include gameplay, so it is more of a cinematic teaser. Kojima proclaimed that OD would be “a new form of media”, utilising cloud technology to try and push his experimentation further.

There is no launch date for OD yet but hopefully we'll hear more in the year ahead.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 was first revealed at The Game Awards in 2019. We've had a few more teasers since then, but the game has made one final TGAs appearance before its launch next year with a new gameplay trailer.

Ninja Theory earned plenty of praise for Hellblade's visuals but the studio has really kicked things up a notch for Hellblade 2, which looks like a true next-gen graphical showcase.

In Hellblade 2, we're going on a “brutal journey of survival through the myth and torment of Viking Iceland”. That description appears to be quite accurate based on this latest trailer.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 does not have a specific release date yet but it is coming in 2024. Chances are, it will be Xbox's biggest first-party release of the year.

Last year, in collaboration with Valve, Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards gave away a Steam Deck for every minute that the awards ceremony was live. The two have partnered up once again, this time giving away a total of 100 OLED Steam Decks to viewers.

Making the announcement on Twitter, The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley said “Thursday, tune into #TheGameAwards for your chance to win 100 Steam Deck OLEDs (1 TB version) starting at 4:30p PT / 7:30p ET / 12:30a GMT. Enter during the show at http://tgasteamdeck.com.”

While perhaps not the most convenient timing for those in the UK, Keighly shared more specific details on how to enter, saying “No Purchase Necessary. Entry between 4:30pm PST – 8pm PST on Dec 7 2023 (12:30am GMT – 4am GMT (8 Dec 2023).”

As mentioned, a similar giveaway took place last year during The Game Awards, though instead of a maximum of 100 Steam Decks, one device was given away every single minute that the show was live. This change was likely to have been made due to the inconsistent nature of the show – such as what we saw with Christopher Judge’s acceptance speech during last year’s event; being a record-breaking 8-minutes long.

Regardless of whether it is 1 or 100 Steam Decks, being able to get your hands on Valve’s latest piece of hardware for free will be incentive enough for some to tune into the show.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this giveaway? Will you enter? Why do you think they capped it to 100 Decks this year? Let us know down below.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons was a huge indie hit when it originally launched back in 2013. Personally, it is still a game that I think back on fondly today. It looks like a new generation will get to experience the game soon, as a remake is reportedly on the way.

Since we typically only hear about remakes for more popular titles, seeing that Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons may be heading for a remake is particularly surprising. According to Bilbil-kun, who you'll know from monthly PSN and Xbox Game Pass leaks, 505 Games is set to publish the remake of this indie classic. The announcement could come as soon as tomorrow via The Game Awards.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons follows two siblings on a perilous journey to retrieve a life-saving elixir for their ailing father. Players control both brothers simultaneously, navigating challenging environments and solving puzzles that demand collaboration. The game explores themes of loss, perseverance, and the unbreakable bond between siblings, culminating in a poignant and impactful conclusion.

The original game released for Xbox and PlayStation consoles as well as PC. Since then, the game has also released on iOS, Android, Nintendo Switch and even Windows Phone. The game won a BAFTA Award in 2014. We'll have to wait and see where things go from here.

During the court case between Microsoft and the FTC over the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, a number of documents leaked, revealing a roadmap of upcoming exclusive games, as well as early plans for the next-gen Xbox console. One of the games mentioned was none other than Dishonored 3 and now, rumours are swirling that the game will be announced this week.

As part of the leaked documents gathered as part of the discovery process for court proceedings between Microsoft and the FTC, Microsoft had to hand over sensitive business documents, including early plans for the next Xbox console, and a roadmap for upcoming games on its release schedule. As part of a roadmap for Bethesda, the company has Dishonored 3 planned for FY2024.

dishonoredheader1.jpg

Now, leaker and podcaster, Nate the Hate, has claimed that he has heard that Arkane Lyon's next game will be announced at The Game Awards this week. Given that we see Dishonored 3 listed on an official roadmap document, this appears to be the most likely option for a new game announcement.

While the Dishonored games were both very well received, Arkane went in a different direction after Dishonored 2, working on titles like Deathloop and Redfall in an effort to get more acquainted with multiplayer. A return to the studio's best known IP would be welcomed.

Microsoft has already confirmed plans to share some big news at The Game Awards next week but the big surprise may have just been spoiled. Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 has begun to appear in ratings board listings, indicating that a new trailer is on the way.

As spotted by Insider Gaming, Hellblade 2 has now been rated by the Australian Classification Board, receiving an 18+ rating. The first game, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice received a 15+ rating from the same board, so it would seem that Ninja Theory is dialling up the dark themes and imagery for the sequel – something that became obvious during the first gameplay reveal.

The sequel will see Senua taking on a tough journey through myth and torment in Viking-era Iceland, attempting to save those who have fallen to tyranny.

The Game Awards is due to kick off next week on the 7th of December, or the early hours of the 8th of December for those of us in the UK and Europe. Microsoft has already confirmed plans to make announcements at the event. Given that this is the same event Microsoft chose to first announce Hellblade 2, it seems fitting that the company would return this year with a new update.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 is widely rumoured to be targeting a 2024 release date, so we can keep our fingers crossed for confirmation of that with a new trailer during The Game Awards.

While Xbox's first-party studios don't have any games in the running for GOTY at this year's edition of The Game Awards, the company does have a few nominees in other categories, with Starfield, Hi-Fi Rush and Forza Motorsport in the running for a few categories. Now, Microsoft has publicly revealed plans to make new announcements at the event next week.

Outside of Starfield, Hi-Fi Rush and Forza, Microsoft hasn't had a particularly busy year for first-party releases. However, Xbox still made plenty of headlines thanks to all the hoops it had to jump through to close its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Microsoft has high hopes for the future though, with a ton of big exclusives in the works for the years ahead.

Microsoft has used The Game Awards as a venue for a few announcements in recent years. The Xbox Series X console was first announced at the show, and the TGAs were also utilised to showcase our first look at Hellblade 2, one of Microsoft's most highly anticipated upcoming exclusives.

The Xbox team will continue this trend at The Game Awards 2023, sending out an email teasing “important announcements and other Xbox news” during the event. The Game Awards is set to kick off on the 7th of December in the US, but it doesn't kick off until after midnight on the 8th of December for those of us in the UK.

Geoff Kieghley has had some unfortunate run-ins with stage rushers at his recent events. While both instances of stage rushing ended peacefully, it only takes one bad actor to cause some real damage. Fortunately for The Game Awards 2023, Keighley seems to be taking a more serious approach to security to protect everyone involved with the production, as well as the attendees.

Stage rushers distract from the overall show and can throw things off the rails, something you don't really want in a well-planned live show with an entire production team behind it. Instances like this can also make everyone involved in a production feel unsafe. This can be a particularly big concern for an event like The Game Awards, where regular employees from across the games industry are invited to attend. It only takes one unhinged individual with a vendetta against a particular studio or game to slip through and cause a major incident.

Kieghley has been pretty lucky so far, as both instances of stage rushing were ultimately peaceful. The first one was a weird protest attempt where we heard some rambling about the Clintons, while the second was simply used to express some excitement for Grand Theft Auto 6, albeit in the cringiest way possible. It could have been much worse and it looks like Keighley is now realising that.

Speaking during a Q&A session for this year's TGAs, Kieghley confirmed that there will be additional security moving forward. He did not divulge too many details, as doing so could give bad actors an edge when it comes to planning an attempt to get on stage.

The Game Awards is set to take place on the 8th of December. Aside from additional security, Keighley also revealed that he is retiring the often memed ‘World Premier' introduction to new game trailers at this year's event.

KitGuru Says: Now that this has happened twice, steps need to be taken to instill confidence for everyone involved in these shows, from the production team, to hosts, to the attendees themselves. Hopefully this year's TGAs can go through without any incidents.

In recent weeks, Larian has made it very clear that the Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3 is coming along nicely. The development team even significantly reduced the game's memory usage while optimising for the Series S, a benefit that will be coming to other platforms as well. Now, it looks like we're in for an announcement of the Xbox launch at The Game Awards.

Baldur's Gate 3 was revealed as a nominee for several categories at The Game Awards this year, including the coveted GOTY award. It would seem that Larian has more planned for the show than just accepting awards, as the studio has now confirmed it will be releasing a new game trailer during the show.

The new trailer will be a world premiere for the Xbox release but given the likelihood that this game will win at least one award at the event, we would hope that there is a bit more planned – perhaps we'll see a tease for future content in 2024.

In anticipation of the 2023 Game Awards, a unique island has been created within Fortnite, letting players “Help The Game Awards select the best user-created Fortnite Island of 2023! Join host Geoff Keighley and Portal to 10 nominated islands! Cast your vote to pick your favorite! Collect The Game Awards statues for an XP boost.”

The island is live right now and can be accessed by using the code: 0853-1358-8532. While only allowing you to vote in a single specific category, we have seen The Game Awards experiment with a variety of voting means in the past, including letting you vote directly from within Google Search.

With this latest collaboration, it would not be surprising to see the entirety of the awards show be streamed live within Fortnite at some point in the future – if not even this year.

Last week, Geoff Keighley announced plans to unveil the nominees for The Game Awards 2023 this week. Now, just as promised, we have the nominees for each category, with six games making the GOTY list, including Baldur's Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, Spider-Man 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Resident Evil 4 Remake and Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

This year's GOTY list is fairly predictable, although it has been a highly competitive year. Notably, big releases like Final Fantasy 16 and Starfield did not make the final nominations list, but I wouldn't exactly knock any of the current nominees off the list either.

All of the games on this year's GOTY nominee list are also nominated for Best Game Direction, with the exception of Resident Evil 4. On the Best Narrative list, Alan Wake 2, Baldur's Gate 3 and Spider-Man 2 return, joined by Final Fantasy 16 and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.

Moving on to indies, the following titles are nominated for best independent game of the year; Cocoon, Dave the Diver, Dredge, Sea of Stars and Viewfinder.

Looking ahead to 2024, the following titles are nominated for the ‘Most Anticipated' award; Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Hades II, Star Wars Outlaws and Tekken 8.

As always, while the nominees for The Game Awards are decided by a panel of industry folk, fans do get a vote on the final winners. There are plenty of categories to choose from, far more than we've covered here, and voting is now open, so if you want to see your favourite game get a win at this year's TGAs, then be sure to get your votes in.

Geoff Keighley’s annual The Game Awards show has become a staple of the industry, with each successive entry garnering more and more viewers. While some simply watch the show for its new game announcements, the awards portion itself also presents a great deal of excitement. Ahead of the show’s premiere on the 7th of December, the full list of nominees will be officially announced next week.

Taking to Twitter, the official Game Awards account revealed that the full list of nominees for 2023’s The Game Awards will go live on Monday the 13th of November at 5pm GMT. More than 30 categories in total will be detailed – including the all-important Game of the Year.

With 2023 being one of the best years in recent memory for gaming, it will be interesting to see which titles ultimately end up on the GOTY list. Just some of the potential games include:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • Baldur’s Gate 3
  • Alan Wake II
  • Resident Evil 4 Remake
  • Super Mario Bros. Wonder
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
  • HI-FI RUSH
  • Final Fantasy XVI

As always, you will be able to vote for your favourite games after the nominees have been revealed. That said, it is worth noting that the final results are determined primarily by industry voters – with fan votes only skewing the result to a small degree.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see which titles are nominated and which end up being snubbed.

Right at the start of this year, FromSoftware confirmed its plans for an Elden Ring expansion, titled ‘Shadow of the Erdtree'. We've been waiting for more information ever since and it sounds like a full reveal is just around the corner.

According to YouTuber Ziostorm, who has had accurate FromSoftware information in the past, the Elden Ring expansion should be shown at The Game Awards in December, with a new trailer and an early 2024 release date. More specifically, it is claimed that the DLC will become available on the 5th of February, just in time for Elden Ring's two-year anniversary.

Elden Ring was first properly revealed in 2021 at Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest. With that in mind, it would not be surprising to see Keighley land a second reveal at The Game Awards, particularly after Elden Ring won the coveted GOTY award at his show last year.

Currently, little is officially known about Shadow of the Erdtree but if the game is releasing in early 2024 as reported, then we shouldn't have to wait long for a real update.

Over the past many years, The Game Awards has risen to become one of the premiere annual gaming events, with the Geoff Keighley-led ceremony blending new announcements alongside a celebration of the past 12 months in gaming. Unsurprisingly, The Game Awards will be returning this year, set to go live on the 7th of December.

Making the announcement on Twitter, The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley published an image confirming that 2023’s edition of The Game Awards will take place on the 7th of December – almost exactly one year following last year’s ceremony.

Initially started as a relatively modest affair, The Game Awards has managed to grow larger and more impressive with each iteration – both in terms of the games announced as well as the show’s total viewership.

Since its first event back in 2014, The Game Awards has seen total viewership increase year-on-year, with the first show amassing a total audience of 1.9 million – and 2022’s show seeing over 100 million viewers.

With 2023 arguably being one of the best years for games in recent memory, the 2023 Game Awards will certainly have a lot to celebrate – and hopefully a lot to announce.

All that said, considering the fact that recent Keighley-led shows have suffered from an unfortunate number of gate-crashers who have managed to sneak up onto the stage during pivotal moments, hopefully security for this year’s event will be increased.

The Game Awards has seen a consistent and impressive amount of growth, with the annual showcase increasing its reach year-on-year to dozens of millions of viewers. The 2022 awards show has hit a major milestone, surpassing over 100 million livestreams.

Making the announcement on Twitter, The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley released a whole host of statistics pertaining to this year’s show, saying “This year #TheGameAwards hit a new viewership milestone: 103 million livestreams [compared to 85 million in 2021]. Thank you for making this the most-watched Game Awards in history. See you in 2023!”

This is not all however, as according to Keighley, “On Twitter, TGA delivered over 11.5 million video views of the livestream, with a 28% increase in conversation volume YoY, 33% increase in unique authors, and 31% increase in #TheGameAwards hashtag usage. The show trended #1 worldwide, including all top 5 worldwide trends.”

Of course, it is worth noting that at least one of those trending words was ‘Bill Clinton’ thanks to the troll who got up on stage following the GOTY announcement – but still, the attention surrounding The Game Awards is certainly impressive.

With each Game Awards getting bigger and bigger, it will be interesting to see whether 2023’s will once again be the biggest show ever, or if the TGA’s have finally hit their tipping point. We will have to wait and see.

Returnal became a surprise hit when the 3rd-person shooter roguelike released exclusively for PlayStation 5 last year. Since its console debut, rumours and leaks sprung up suggesting that the game would be coming to PC. Finally, at The 2022 Game Awards, Returnal has officially been announced to be coming to the platform in 2023.

Announced at the 2022 Game Awards – and elaborated upon further via the PlayStation Blog – developer Housemarque said “Our award-winning 3rd person shooter roguelike, Returnal, is coming to PC!”

As with all previous PC conversions of PlayStation exclusives, Returnal will be taking full advantage of the increased power ceiling afforded by PC hardware, with the team saying:

“For our PC version there will be an array of PC specific tweaks and upgrades to make sure that the experience is as fluid as possible. More on these details later, but rest assured that you will be faced with a cutting edge Housemarque challenge, and the bells and whistles are there to support the gameplay experience including the relentless challenge of the Tower of Sisyphus and online co-op mode.”

While they did not go into specifics, we previously reported on a leaked video showing off Returnal’s options menu on PC, showcasing that this version will feature a whole host of rather significant improvements including ray-tracing; manual resolution scaling; dynamic resolution scaling; DLSS; AMD’s FSR; VRS; and even Nvidia’s NIS image scaling technique. Returnal will be coming to PC in Early 2023.

Vampire Survivors has for many people been one of the standout indie hits of 2022. Previously available only on PC, at the 2022 Game Awards it was revealed that the roguelite time survival RPG would be coming to mobile devices – and it is available right now for free.

For the uninitiated, Vampire Survivors is a bullet-hell roguelite survival RPG in which the goal is to survive against hordes of thousands of enemies for 30 minutes. One of the most compelling aspects of the game is its minimalism – with players only able to move the character and little else.

The game hit it big on PC due to its accessibility, as well as its incredibly cheap price of just £3.99 (and this was after a price hike).

Thanks to its simplistic controls, Vampire Survivors feels right at home on a smartphone, and so its surprise announcement at The Game Awards was welcome indeed – especially as the game is entirely free-to-play (with optional ads for a revive and gold bonus).

Vampire survivors is a highly addictive title, and with it now being on mobile, the game’s growth potential is exponential. Vampire Survivors can be found HERE for iOS and HERE for Android.

Back when The Last of Us Part 1 was announced for PS5, Sony revealed that the remake of the 2013 PS3 classic would also come to PC – though at a later date. During the 2022 Game Awards, it was finally revealed that The Last of Us Part 1 is coming to PC in March of 2023.

Available to pre-order right now, The Last of Us Part 1 is coming to Steam and the Epic Games  Store on the 3rd of March 2023 – exactly 6 months and one day after its PS5 debut.

As with the recent announcement that PS5-exclusive Returnal is coming to PC, Sony did not elaborate on what improvements PC players could expect to see over the console release. That being said, at the bare minimum the PC port should allow for ultrawide support, unlimited frame rates and enhanced texture resolutions.

Of course, we will have to wait for an official breakdown by PlayStation themselves regarding exactly what PC players can expect from this game, but if all other PC ports of PlayStation games are anything to go by then it should hopefully be quite comprehensive.

As stated by Naughty Dog, “We’ll have more information about The Last of Us Part I’s PC specs and features closer to release, so please look forward to more ahead of the March launch.”

DONTNOD Entertainment have long been known for their work on the Life is Strange series, however their repertoire extends far beyond that game’s genre, with the studio’s debut title being the oft-forgotten combat-focused ‘Remember Me’. Now, the team have announced their most ambitious game yet: Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden – a story driven Action-RPG.

Announced at the 2022 Game Awards, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is described as follows:

“New Eden, 1695. Antea Duarte and Red mac Raith are lovers and Banishers, ghost-hunters who vowed to protect the living from the threat of lingering ghosts and specters. Following a disastrous last mission, Antea is fatally wounded, becoming one of the spirits she loathes. In the haunted wilds of North America, the couple desperately searches for a way to liberate Antea from her new plight.”

Though very little gameplay was shown, it is quite clear that Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden Is DONTNOD’s most ambitious game yet, combining all of the strengths and learnings from the studio’s previous projects to make a game that is not only filled with impactful and challenging moral decisions, but also features in-depth combat mechanics using magic, weapons and spiritual powers – evolving your character both personally and mechanically.

Hopefully we get to see more from Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden ahead of its release some time in late 2023.

Prior to hitting it big with the Souls franchise, FromSoftware was best known for having created the Armored Core series of mech action games – having developed over a dozen titles since the first entry back in 1997. After almost a decade since the last entry, FromSoftware have now announced the return of the series with Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon.

Announced at The 2022 Game Awards (and available to Wishlist HERE), Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon will be the 16th entry in the franchise, though the first to release in over a decade – with the most recent release being 2013’s Armored Core: Verdict Day.

Planned for launch some time in 2023, Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon will have players “assemble and pilot their own mech with 3D maneuverability to move freely through three dimensional fast-paced missions. Take on difficult challenges and overwhelm your enemies with dynamic movements that make full use of ranged and melee combat. Players can enjoy a variety of actions that can only be truly realized with mechs.”

If there is one thing FromSoftware excels at it is impactful and visceral combat, and so while little was actually shown from the game, it is safe to assume that the team will be taking all their learnings from the past decade of Souls titles and putting it into Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon. Hopefully we see more soon.

Horizon Forbidden West released earlier this year to critical and commercial success. As with the first game in the series, Forbidden West has now been announced to be getting an expansion. Titled ‘Horizon Forbidden West – Burning Shores’ this expansion will take players to “the untamed wilds of Los Angeles.”

Announced at the 2022 Game Awards, Horizon Forbidden West – Burning Shores is described as “an ambitious expansion” which “sees Aloy pursue a sinister threat in the untamed wilds of Los Angeles, now a treacherous volcanic archipelago.”

Describing the expansion further, Mathijs de Jonge, the Game Director at Guerrilla Games said “Our creative vision for the Burning Shores is an ambitious expansion which will take Aloy to the ruins of Los Angeles. It’s an overgrown and fractured city that can be fully explored via the water and flying on the back of a Sunwing. A massive machine threat lurks in its shadows – a huge challenge that Aloy must overcome by using all of her skills and abilities”

In an interesting move by the studio, the expansion will not be released on PlayStation 4 (even though Forbidden West did), with Mathijs de Jonge explaining “to achieve this grand vision technically and creatively, we’ve made the difficult decision to focus all our efforts on making an incredible experience exclusively for the PlayStation 5 console.”

While undoubtedly disappointing to PS4 owners, hopefully Burning Shores truly takes full advantage of the less restrictive hardware of the PS5. Horizon Forbidden West – Burning Shores will launch on the 19th of April 2023.

Forspoken is the next major PlayStation 5 exclusive game set to release, with the open-world Action-JRPG launching in January 2023. Being a new IP with a unique combat system, Forspoken certainly has somewhat of an uphill battle in order to prove itself to skeptics. Fortunately, the best way to do so is by getting the game into the hands of players – and Forspoken is doing just that, with a demo available to download right now.

Available right now and completely free to download, PS5 players can “Experience a slice of Forspoken and dive into the Action-RPG with this specially crafted Demo.”

This demo will let you “Jump into Avoalet's Water Garden and dash through the sprawling Athian landscape with Magic Parkour. Complete 5 main objectives to aid Frey in her quest to find her way home, and discover detours along the way. Combat treacherous foes with an extensive arsenal of attack & support magic.”

The demo weighs in at roughly 30GB and should offer more than enough opportunities for potential buyers to get a feel for the game, its “Magic Parkour” and more ahead of Forspoken’s release on the 24th of January 2023. It is worth noting that data from this demo will not carry over to the release version – though assuming the gameplay is fun and replayable, this shouldn’t be too big of an issue.

It's been more than 6 years since the release of Final Fantasy XV, and while we have known for a while that its much anticipated sequel is planned to launch sometime during Summer 2023, no exact date was provided. Finally however, Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XVI will be coming to PlayStation 5 in late June.

Making the announcement at the 2022 Game Awards, Square Enix released a new Final Fantasy XVI trailer, called ‘REVENGE’, with the description reading as follows:

“The flames of vengeance burn bright and beckon with ambitious hunger. Awaken the Eikons, but will you dominate them or will they dominate you?”

As with all previous Final Fantasy XVI trailers, the stakes are high and the action is bombastic. Unlike previous trailers however, this one concluded with a hard release date: 22nd of June 2023.

Unfortunately, those who do not own a PS5 console will have to wait a while longer, as it was previously confirmed that FFXVI will be exclusive to Sony’s current-gen machine for at least 6 months. That being said, for those who do own a PlayStation 5, Final Fantasy XVI is shaping up to be one of the most exciting entries in the series’ history.

The 2022 Game Awards has come and gone, and brought with it a great deal of new game announcements. In a surprise reveal, the 2019 souls-like Remnant From the Ashes was announced to be receiving a sequel.

For the uninitiated, Remnant From the Ashes is a Souls-like developed by Gunfire Games. As is in the studio’s name, Remnant From the Ashes featured similar weighty and thoughtful combat as seen in FromSoftware titles – but with guns instead.

Building upon the solid foundations of the first game, Remnant 2 is being developed exclusively for current-gen systems (plus PC) and “pits survivors of humanity against new deadly creatures and god-like bosses across terrifying worlds” in which you can “play solo or co-op with two other friends to explore the depths of the unknown to stop an evil from destroying reality itself.”

While the first game was fun in its own right, Remnant 2 will improve upon the formula further, featuring an “expanded Archetype system [which] provides players with unique passive bonuses and stunning powers.”

Additionally, “Branching quest lines, augments, crafting, and loot rewards will test the resolve of even the most hardened players in dynamically generated dungeons and areas.”

As mentioned, the first game offered satisfying gunplay with decent exploration and a unique aesthetic. It is exciting to see the team at Gunfire Games refining the Remnant experience further. Hopefully we get to see more from the game ahead of its release sometime in 2023.

Hideo Kojima has had a long and storied history with both Geoff Keighley and The Game Awards, and so it was not surprising to see the game creator present at the 2022 awards ceremony. What was perhaps surprising was the announcement that Death Stranding is set to get a sequel.

Announced at the 2022 Game Awards, Death Stranding 2 (working title: DS2) is a follow-up to Hideo Kojima’s 2019 open-world stealth-action strand-type game.

Alongside the announcement, a teaser trailer was released, and in typical Kojima fashion it is confusing, cryptic, and rather enticing. What has seemingly been confirmed however is the fact that DS2 will follow on directly from the first entry, with much of the game’s cast returning for the sequel, including Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux and Troy Baker.

DS2 will also be introducing a bunch of new faces, with Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna announced to be in the game.

Finally, in case you were worried, it has been confirmed that “As with all of his past masterpieces, the latest title will be produced, written, directed and designed by Hideo Kojima himself.”

Neither a release date nor a release year was given, but we do know that Death Stranding 2 will be coming to PS5 – with no other platforms announced. Of course, following a period of exclusivity, the first game did eventually come to other platforms, and so hopefully the same will be the case with DS2. Expect many more cryptic trailers between now and the game’s release.

Elden Ring won big at the 2022 Game Awards, taking home the all-important Game of the Year award. As part of his acceptance speech, Elden Ring’s Director Hidetaka Miyazaki teased that more Elden Ring is on the way – in some form or another.

During his acceptance speech for Game of the Year, Miyazaki said “Thank you so much. I would like to share this great appreciation with our entire Elden Ring team members; everybody at FromSoftware; our partner Bandai Namco; all collaborators and last but not least Mr. George RR Martin who created the great mythos for this game.”

Miyazaki continued, “We have faced so many difficulties while developing this game so as a director I’m really relieved, and this might not be the right thing to say at the location of receiving the GOTY award, but I haven't made up my mind to create even more interesting games than this one.”

Miyazaki then teased the future of the record-breaking Elden Ring, saying “As for Elden Ring we still have several more things we want to do, so getting this GOTY award really encourages us.”

What exactly Miyazaki means by this is unknown, but considering the fact that Elden Ring has sold over 17.5 million copies in less than a year, it is safe to assume that the GOTY winner will be getting some form of DLC – or perhaps even a sequel.
