The Arctic MX-5 was short-lived, possibly due to the issues reported by users regarding material separation in certain batches. However, there's a successor coming in, and it's called MX-6.

With the MX-5 now in EOL, Arctic launched the MX-6 as the successor. The formula of the new thermal paste is based on the proven MX-4, which is still available to this day and will continue to be. With Arctic claiming the MX-6 has a lower thermal resistance, the new thermal compound can provide up to 20% better performance than the MX-4, which sounds promising.

Like all Arctic thermal pastes, the MX-6 is non-conductive and non-capacitive, eliminating the risk of short circuits and discharges that can damage your system. Thanks to its high viscosity (550 poise), Arctic's new thermal paste is relatively easy to apply on a processor IHS, exposed dies, and other types of chips.

Now available in 2g, 4g and 8g tubes, with or without MX Cleaner wipes, the MX-6 thermal paste starts at €11.99.

KitGuru says: Have you ever tried using Arctic MX thermal compound? Were you happy with the results? Would you consider getting a tube of MX-6 if you ever need to replace the thermal paste of your CPU or GPU?

EVGA has launched what it is calling the “next generation of thermal interface material” with its new Frostbite 2 Thermal Grease. The new thermal interface material from EVGA claims to deliver highly efficient heat transfer under intense workloads while being easy to apply and ensuring optimal CPU to heatsink contact.

Frostbite 2 Thermal Grease is engineered for application on CPUs or GPUs and can be used in conjunction with air or water cooling solutions. EVGA claims that Frostbite 2 is ideal for high-end gaming systems or for users that want to push the performance of a system with extreme overclocking of the CPU or GPU.

EVGA compares the performance of its Frostbite 2 Thermal Grease with two unnamed competitors and shows that it beats them by 2 or 3 degrees Celsius in tests. Frostbite 2 is built for high-performance systems with a thermal conductivity value of 1.6 W/m-K and said to be easy to apply using the traditional 2.5-gram syringe it is contained inside.

EVGA Frostbite 2 Thermal Grease features:

  • Breakdown Voltage (V/mil) 250
  • Built for High Performance
  • Colour Grey
  • Easy to Apply
  • Great Thermal Conductivity
  • Operating Temperature -40~180 degrees Celsius
  • Specific Gravity (g/cm³) 3
  • Weight 2.5 Gram Syringe

EVGA Frostbite 2 Thermal Grease is available to purchase directly from EVGA in 2.5-gram syringes priced at $7.99.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: Without testing the Frostbite 2 it is difficult to comment on performance. However, the specifications suggest it should be a good performer. What do you guys think?

We like to run our own giveaways here at KitGuru but on occasion, we'll spot a competition running elsewhere that we think our readers would be interested in. Right now, ARCTIC is celebrating 10-million sales for its MX-2 and MX-4 thermal paste, to cap off the milestone, a giveaway has been put in place, giving you the chance to win $1,000 per month.

ARCTIC CEO, Magnus Huber, says that this is a special thank you to customers who have loyally bought MX-2 and MX-4 thermal compounds over the years.

New 2019 editions of ARCTIC MX-2 and MX-4 thermal paste have begun hitting store shelves with special packaging, as you can see above. Each one of these new tubes comes with a QR code attached. If you happen to buy some ARCTIC thermal paste this year, you can scan the QR code. This will take you directly to ARCTIC's registration page, where you'll need to enter a few details, after that, you'll be entered into the competition.

There are some terms and conditions. For starters, those looking to enter will need to be at least 18 years of age. The competition is open to those in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and China. It is also open in Canada (excluding Quebec) and the US (excluding Florida and New York).

ARCTIC has a full FAQ set up for this, which you can find, HERE.

KitGuru Says: If you're planning on picking up some new thermal paste this year, then perhaps keep this competition in mind.
