Hi-Rez Studios and Titan Forge Games are teaming up to create Smite 2, the successor to the popular third-person MOBA action game, Smite. With the original game boasting an impressive 40 million players, fans eagerly anticipate what the sequel will bring.

Smite 2 is set to feature a significant upgrade over the original game, as it will be based on Unreal Engine 5. As such, gamers can expect better visuals and effects, updating the game's graphics to today's standards. In addition, the developers have promised gameplay enhancements, such as a redesigned user interface and improved matchmaking. The game will also be playable on various platforms, including the PlayStation 5, Steam Deck, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.

One of the most exciting features of Smite 2 is its complete cross-play and advancement, allowing friends to play together regardless of platform and keep their progress across different devices. The game has been designed with multiple input systems in mind, including keyboard and mouse, controller, and even Steam Deck, giving players more options and flexibility.

It's important to note that the original Smite game will remain available for the foreseeable future. However, not all cosmetics from Smite will be carried over to Smite 2 due to the challenge of transferring over ten years of material. The developers have stated they cannot port every skin to Smite 2 as it would require an estimated 246 person-years of labour. Nonetheless, the game is expected to offer a fresh experience with new skins and cosmetics for players to collect.

Those eager to try out Smite 2 can sign up for the alpha playtest this spring on the game's official website. As with the original Smite, the sequel will be free to play.

Modders are slowly but surely beginning to figure out how to make changes to Halo Infinite. The latest mod to make headlines completely shifts gameplay, enabling a third-person view of Master Chief and the Zeta Halo.

Since the beginning, Halo has been a first-person shooter franchise, while other Microsoft IP, like Gears, tackled third-person shooting. A modder going by the name ‘Halo Opulant' has shifted this, with a new mod offering a third-person camera option in Halo Infinite.

The mod works with all the weapons you can find throughout the campaign, meaning the full game from start to finish should be playable in third-person mode.

Rather than using Nexus, this particular mod has been uploaded to Halo Customs, which also hosts a number of custom maps for the other Halo titles available in the Master Chief Collection.

KitGuru Says: Halo looks surprisingly good as a third-person shooter. Hopefully later this year with Forge mode, we'll see new custom maps and modes begin to pop up for Infinite.

Ubisoft is one of the most successful gaming companies in the industry. Despite this, the publisher has struggled to create an enticing new IP in quite a few years – with many of their most successful games being of the ‘Tom Clancy’ variety. Despite this, Ubisoft is trying to come with a winning new IP, with their latest attempt being called ‘Pathfinder’.

This leak comes from reputable insider Tom Henderson and exputer.com and claims that Ubisoft is working on a brand new IP said to be a third-person shooter battle royale-like game which – according to Henderson – will see teams of four “drop into the map and find their path towards the center to fight the main AI boss.”

Continuing, Henderson said “Players need to navigate their way through two walls (an outer wall and an inner wall) that have a series of gates around them that can be breachable. The catch? Different gates are breachable or locked every single game, making each game different in terms of the path you need to navigate.”

This PvPvE concept sounds not too dissimilar to a hybrid between a typical battle royale game like Apex Legends while also offering the leveling up and zoning systems of a MOBA such as League of Legends or Smite.

The visuals shared so far show an artstyle similar to Fortnite’s – as well as Ubisoft’s soon-to-be deceased Hyper Scape. That being said, the concept shared by Henderson seems unique enough to draw an early audience. Hopefully Pathfinder ultimately fares better than Hyper Scape.

We're used to messing around with mods on the PC but getting one to run on a console is a lot harder. However, that hasn't stopped XBLToothPik from turning Grand Theft Auto V in to a first person game using a modded Xbox 360 and a custom script.

The script allows the player to alter the perspective of the game. Playing the game in first person isn't perfect as it does cause some graphical issues but it's still pretty cool to see. Here's two videos XBLToothPik filmed with the mod running:

The mod can only go so far on an Xbox- it will probably end up working better on the PC when the game comes out later this year. This first person perspective also opens the doors for virtual reality support, we may end up being able to play a modded version of the game on the Oculus Rift thanks to the modding community.

KitGuru Says: I'm looking forward to GTA V on the PC and seeing what the modding community can do with it. Would you guys try out a first person mod for the game on PC? Also, have any of you guys tried modding a game yourselves?

Returning from Games Developer Conference 2013, Wolfire's CEO and lead programmer, David Rosen learned a lot about animation. He's been breaking down some of the big studio's lessons over the past week and today's look-in is to do with the differences between first person and third person and animation – and believe me, they're huge.

First person for example, is all about “giving the player feedback”, he explains: showing what weapon they have equipped, whether it's powerful and if it's ready to fire. It also has to convey the environment at large, where other characters and enemies are and all of this needs to be conveyed to the player without everything stepping over each other. Gun placement needs to be considered and what arc it can bounce around in when players are moving.

First person can also be used to indicate the condition of the protagonist and not just through HUD health bars. There's forced movements and perspectives, with Rosen highlighting the way Bioshock hand animations convey pain and transformation when Plasmids are encountered.

Of course there are some cheats that developers use that would look silly in real life. One highlighted example is reloading: no one reloads in front of their face, but we see it in every game. If it all happened below the camera, how would the gamer know anything had happened? There's also strange head, arm and leg movements in games like Mirror's Edge which need to be considered. This means they often become detached from the player's body, but it's fine because the gamer can't see it.

And this is why you can't just switch smoothly between first and third person perspective's without considering it seriously.

KitGuru Says: As interesting as the above video is, it really makes me want to pull out my copy of Mirror's Edge again. Damn that was a cool game, even if it did have a fair few flaws.
