Titanfall 2 isn't the easiest game to play online nowadays, with hackers being left to their own devices and multiplayer services being prone to DDOS attacks while Respawn focuses most of its efforts on its flagship game, Apex Legends. However, players on PC may now have an alternative to official servers, as custom multiplayer services have now gone live.

The Northstar mod recently launched for Titanfall 2 (available on GitHub), allowing players to host their own servers for the game using custom scripts. This also opens the door for custom content creation, so we could see some interesting modded servers hosted online too.

Titanfall2_02-e1471358284826.jpg

As pointed out by the Save Titanfall Twitter account, the vulnerabilities present on official Titanfall 2 servers do still exist here, it is far less likely that DDOS attackers will be able to get the IP address for your private server, compared to the official servers which are publicly known. Private games also won't show up on the master server, improving privacy and decreasing the likelihood that your server can or would be targeted by someone looking to ruin your game.

This is of course only possible on PC, as the console versions of Titanfall 2 can't be modded. The best part about this is that when EA eventually ends support for Titanfall 2's online services, players on PC will still be able to group up and play. Unfortunately, the mod won't work for Titanfall 1, which is still shutting down in a few months time.

KitGuru Says: I spent a lot of my time on custom Counter-Strike servers growing up, so it's great to see a mod like this working for a game like Titanfall 2, which Respawn rarely touches nowadays. With these tools, the player base will be able to keep Titanfall 2 alive for years to come.

Yesterday was quite the rollercoaster for Titanfall 2 players, as reports began claiming that a new bug had been discovered, which could allow “local code execution” from the game server, something that hackers could take full advantage of. To be safe, many began advising that players uninstall the game but after some investigation, Respawn says there is no reason to panic.

The bug first began being publicised on Discord servers and soon enough, the discussion also spread to other forums. It was claimed that the bug could allow a hacker to essentially take full control of a PC by exploiting Titanfall 2, something that security researchers were quick to point out as far-fetched.

titanfall2_waterfall-e1480529286745.jpg

Respawn Entertainment was quick to respond to these reports, launching an investigation into the bug. In the latest update, the studio confirmed that it seems to be dealing with “a simple exploit”, albeit one that could be used to crash the game for everyone on a server. Outside of that though, the team does not believe that “there are any more serious risks to affected players or their machines”.

There should be another update from Respawn later today, followed by a patch for Titanfall 2 to fix the issue. This isn't the first time that Respawn has been targeted by hackers though, as there have been recent attacks on Apex Legends, as well as DDOS attacks on Titanfall 2's online services.

KitGuru Says: There is definitely a real issue here that needs to be fixed, but security researchers and Respawn itself are saying that things have been blown out of proportion. Hopefully we'll have another update in the next few hours.

Back in late 2019, EA announced that it would be re-partnering with Valve and bringing its games back to Steam. The process of bringing back-catalogue titles over has been somewhat slow but in recent weeks, the pace has quickened rapidly. Recently Battlefield, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Dead Space and more have returned. Last night, alongside EA Play Live, Titanfall 2, The Sims 4 and Apex Legends were all announced for Steam as well.

The Sims 4 and Titanfall 2 landed on Steam last night and both are on sale. The Sims 4 is 50% off, bringing the price down to £17.50. Meanwhile, Titanfall 2 is down to £8.

Apex Legends is also coming to Steam with full cross-play support later this year. Respawn’s successful battle royale shooter will also be coming to the Nintendo Switch at a similar time.

When these new versions launch, there will be cross-play for Steam, Origin, Xbox One, PS4 and the Nintendo Switch in Apex Legends, creating a massive multiplayer pool for matchmaking.

KitGuru Says: It is great to see EA continuing to bring its games back to Steam- especially Titanfall 2, which did not gain as much attention as it deserved at launch.

PlayStation has announced the free games that will be gracing the systems of PlayStation Plus subscribers for the month of December. The two games that will be available to download are Titanfall 2, and Monster Energy Supercross – The Official Videogame. These two games will be replacing November’s line-up of Nioh and Outlast 2, though of course if you’ve ‘purchased’ them, they will remain playable for as long as you are a member.

Titanfall 2 released in late 2016 to positive critical reception. The Respawn Entertainment developed title is described as “an intense first-person-shooter” where “you’ll experience high-speed mobility as a nimble Pilot who can quickly maneuver the battlefield both in distance and verticality. But when the scale of battle shifts, you’ll be able to call in a hulking Titan war machine for you to pilot to turn the tide of battle”. Respawn Entertainment have since developed the wildly successful ‘Apex Legends’, and the recently released ‘Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’.

The second game on offer is the racing title ‘Monster Energy Supercross – The Official Videogame’. The game “contains official bikes, tracks and riders, of the Supercross Championship. You’re also able to customize bikes & riders with numerous brands and items to design your ideal rider and face players around the world. The Track Editor lets you make and share your own custom creations with other players. Start with a stadium of choice, then craft away and share it with the community”. The game earned mixed reviews when it released in early 2018, but managed to spawn a sequel the following year, which fared somewhat better in the eyes of critics

Both Titanfall 2, and Monster Energy Supercross – The Official Videogame will be available to download from the 3rd of December, until the 6th of January. This means that there are still a few days left to pick up Nioh and Outlast 2.

For VR PS Plus users, PlayStation are offering a free trial of Firewall Zero Hour – a team based first person shooter. The game will be available for free from the 3rd of December (4pm GMT) until the 9th of December (4pm GMT).

EA Access and Origin Access are about to get a big push this week, as Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 have officially joined the vault. This means those who subscribe to EA Access (Xbox) or Origin Access (PC) will get free access to both of EA's big 2016 shooters.

Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 both launched last October to much critical acclaim. The Titanfall 2 campaign was particularly well received, though unfortunately the game didn't sell too well during the crowded holiday season. With both games now coming to the Access Vault, it opens the floodgates for new players to join.

While Origin Access on PC and EA Access on Xbox have slightly different libraries, Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 will be heading to both. This is also the quickest turnaround we have seen for a game heading to the Vault, with both games just releasing in October, and hitting the subscription service just 9 months later.

You can subscribe to either Origin Access or EA Access for £19.99 a year, or £3.99 a month.

KitGuru Says: If you happen to be a patient gamer that doesn't buy new games on release, then Origin and EA Access are pretty great value. Especially when you consider that new releases hit the vault just nine months after release. There are still plenty of people playing BF1 and Titanfall 2 as well, so you won't need to worry about a lack of multiplayer.

It’s no secret that Titanfall 2 has struggled to find its footing this past year with disappointingly low sales, despite the devs dropping free content on a regular basis. Now, Respawn boss Vince Zampella has weighed in on the matter, stating that game sales should have been stronger.

In an interview with GameSpot, Zampella revealed his thoughts on Titanfall 2’s lower-than-expected sales and its journey thus far. “The game was successful, it sold well, but it didn't quite sell as well as it should have,” Zampella acknowledged. “Maybe because it was super-crowded, the pricing was aggressive–it was a rough window to launch our game.”

Titanfall 2 launched on October 28th, directly between behemoths Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which release on October 21st and November 4th respectively. Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA originally defended Titanfall 2’s launch date, stating that the three games accommodated “three types of players.”

While Zampella hopes that the franchise will continue with another main entry, the prospect of a Titanfall 3 has been cast into doubt and neither the developer or publisher has announced plans beyond the upcoming mobile entry Titanfall: Assault.

Titanfall-2_B-e1477579026371.jpg

“It's important for us to keep the franchise going. ‘We're doing more Titanfall,’ which is the quote I'm supposed to say. We have our franchise creative director, who's in charge of safeguarding the franchise in multiple formats and making sure it continues to grow. There's some other things we're doing that haven't been announced just yet, but we're heavily invested in the Titanfall universe.”

Since the release of Titanfall 2: Ultimate Edition, Respawn does not plan to release more content for the game as they “want to work on new stuff,” according to Zampella. But there will be more Titanfall.

“We're working on more Titanfall–we're not announcing what that is yet, but there's a few other things in the works–the mobile game, which turned out fantastic and is super fun, the fans love it and allowed us to expand on what we did in the last games. So I'm pretty happy with what the franchise has become.”

Aside from these few unknown Titanfall projects, Respawn is currently working on a third-person Star Wars action game, directed by Stig Asmussen, who is best known for his role in the God of War series.

KitGuru Says: Whether shoehorning Titanfall 2’s release between two gaming giants was the direct cause of its disappointing sales or not, as fan from the first game it was heart-breaking to watch. I’m hoping for more Titanfall but will make do with whatever these devs push forward with in the meantime. What do you think of the series? Are you still playing Titanfall 2?

After speaking out against the Season Pass model, Respawn has brought some much needed change to the way EA handles DLC, with free maps and game modes promised for Titanfall 2 throughout its lifespan. Respawn is keeping up the regular content drops too, with ‘The War Games' DLC expected to drop for players soon.

The War Games is fronted by the self-titled map, War Games. It is based in a simulator that Pilots use to train, with high-rise buildings in the centre surrounded by VR-styled outskirts meant for Titan combat.

Additionally, players will also get access to a new Live Fire map called Traffic, a new execution and a third weapon slot for pilots. More details will follow on the DLC when the patch notes arrive next week.

Despite being a new approach for EA, the DLC model seems to be working. It has kept Titanfall 2 afloat despite poor sales at launch and the free DLC model will also be carrying over to one of EA's bigger franchises- Star Wars Battlefront.

The War Games DLC will be pushed out as an update to Titanfall 2 owners on the 27th of June.

KitGuru Says: Respawn might actually save the Battlefront franchise as one of the main concerns was how DLC was handled. Have you been enjoying Titanfall 2's free content? Will you be trying out The War Games next week?

Last week, Respawn Entertainment began revealing its free DLC plans for Titanfall 2. Between now and June, we will be getting new maps, game modes, Titans and more but the rollout is kicking off very soon indeed. On the 25th of April, ‘A Glitch in the Frontier' will release.

This is the latest free DLC for Titanfall 2 across all platforms. It features a medium-size map known as Glitch, which is built for objective-based game modes, rather than deathmatch.

Titanfall-2_B-e1477579026371.jpg

Aside from the new map, this free DLC will add a new Live Fire map deck and the ‘Marked for Death' game mode, which first appeared in the original Titanfall. In this mode, each team has a player with a target over them, the team need to then defend their marked player while also hunting the enemy target down.

Finally, this update also bumps the level cap up to 100, while adding the ability to switch between regular or prime executions for Titans. This DLC launches o the 25th of April, you can find more details on future free DLCs in our earlier report, HERE.

KitGuru Says: While Titanfall 2 didn't sell too well initially, I'm glad to see Respawn doing what it can to keep the community alive and encourage new players to come in.

Titanfall 2 may not have sold as well as it should have on release but the player base seems to still be alive and Respawn is looking to keep it that way as this week, the studio announced plans for upcoming free multiplayer content. Respawn has revealed “the road ahead” for Titanfall 2, which includes introducing new maps and multiplayer modes.

These new content drops will be arriving between April and June, with two new ‘general' multiplayer maps and two new ‘Live Fire' maps coming. There will also be a new Titan and two new ‘Prime Titans'.

titanfall2_waterfall-e1480529286745.jpg

Aside from that, further upcoming changes include plans to increase the gen cap from 10 to 100 and bring more options to private matches by adding Live Fire and Coliseum to the selectable modes.

A new in-game faction should become available, as well as a nw game mode called ‘Marked for Death', though we don't know a ton about that one at the moment. You'll get more customisation for your pilot, including new takedown/execution moves, camos and other skins. Matchmaking is going to be improved too.

The whole announcement is light on specific details when it comes to new modes and maps but this does show that Respawn is still committed to Titanfall 2. Aside from these content drops, there is going to be a new DLC called ‘A Glitch in the Frontier', which will be fully unveiled later in April.

KitGuru Says: Titanfall 2 reviewed very well but its release date ended up really hurting its sales. Have any of you guys picked up Titanfall 2 now that its cheaper? There still seems to be plenty of people playing multiplayer, which is encouraging for the long-term.

While EA and Respawn Entertainment are keeping quiet on exact Titanfall 2 sales figures and standing by the game's long-term sales potential, all early indications seem to show that the game just isn't doing very well sales-wise, despite positive reviews and coverage. Now, we have further evidence of that as a research firm has published statistics showing that Titanfall 2 digital first-month sales are down by 28 percent compared to the original game.

The results were published by Superdata Research, who cite the game's release window as a key factor in this: “Electronic Arts made the poor choice to push out the title in between the releases of two larger and more popular FPS franchises. The divided attention of FPS gamers had a negative impact on sales, bringing in total of only $18 million”.

titanfall_2_wm_a

Sure, $18 million sounds like a lot of money but compared to Titanfall 1, which came out in March 2014 with much less competition surrounding its release date, this number is 28 percent lower. It isn't all doom and gloom though, the FPS market might be highly competitive and saturated right now, but Respawn and EA are continuing to support Titanfall 2 with new content and will do so throughout 2017.

On top of that, the game is getting a free multiplayer weekend over the next few days, which may help boost interest in the game after letting more people try it out.

KitGuru Says: I can't help but feel like Respawn and EA really missed an opportunity with Titanfall 2. The release timing was poor and on top of that, the game was not featured on services like EA/Origin Access, which would have allowed more people to try the game before committing to the purchase. Hopefully things can pick back up with some additional promotion of the game over the next few months.

Titanfall 2 has only been out for a month and despite receiving excellent reviews and positive coverage in general, sales for the game haven't been great- despite what EA wants you to believe. In an effort to get people to at least give the game a shot, Respawn Entertainment will be holding a free multiplayer trial this weekend, giving those perhaps on the fence a chance to try it out.

If you happen to be an Origin Access member, then you will get to start playing on the 30th of November (today) until the 4th of December. However, if you don't subscribe to that service, you will get in on Friday the 2nd of December.

titanfall2_waterfall

This comes just a week after Titanfall 2 went for as low as £20 at many stores across Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. Despite what appears to be a troubling time to get people to give Titanfall 2 a chance, EA execs have noted a couple of times that the publisher is committed to the future of the franchise, so there could be room for a sequel in the future.

If you want to see how Titanfall 2 runs on PC before going through the download process for the free weekend, you can check out our analysis and benchmarks for the game, HERE.

KitGuru Says: I really enjoy Titanfall 2 but the game could do with some additional promotion to expand the player base a bit. I guess the hope here is that if people at least give the game a chance while it's free, then they may pick it up and stick around. It isn't a bad tactic but time will tell whether or not it will pay off.

Titanfall 2 has been a huge success in terms of critical reception, with many praising the campaign and multiplayer changes but in terms of sales, Titanfall 2 hasn't quite managed to match the sales of the original game, despite launching on PS4 in addition to Xbox and PC.

During an interview with Glixel, Respawn Entertainment head, Vince Zampella, hinted that while the studio is happy with critical reception, it is still unsure when it comes to sales: “Titanfall 2 is, critically, a huge success. We're really happy with all the reviews and the positive sentiment. Sales, it's too early to tell.”

When it came to the status of a third Titanfall game, Zampella said: “We don't know yet”, though he also kept the door open by adding that “we'd definitely like to tell more of the story and the universe”.

Either way, it doesn't sound like a sequel would be stopped from going ahead, as EA has said that it is “committed to the franchise” and CEO Andrew Wilson recently defended the game's launch in a call with investors.

KitGuru Says: The big worry for me going into Titanfall 2 was the userbase and unfortunately all of the reports of low sales hasn't given me a ton of confidence that the multiplayer mode will outlast Titanfall 1. However, hopefully things will pick up as time goes on and more maps are added to the game. Have any of you tried Titanfall 2 yet? Do you think you will pick it up eventually?

Titanfall 2 has been off to a great start critically, with many praising the game's multiplayer changes and new single player campaign. The PC version is also particularly good. Unfortunately, the game has been released between two massive blockbuster titles: Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The chosen release date has been criticised quite a bit in the last week but EA seems to be standing by its decision.

Right now, it certainly seems like EA thought it could knock Call of Duty down a couple of notches by releasing two massive shooters a week apart, prior to Infinite Warfare's launch. While Battlefield 1 has been doing excellently sales-wise, charts show that Titanfall 2 isn't doing quite as well.

During an earnings call this week, an EA shareholder asked about the publisher's decision to release Titanfall 2 in the middle of Battlefield and Call of Duty. EA CEO, Andrew Wilson, then went on to defend the decision: “We think there's really three types of players. People that really love Battlefield and that kind of big strategic gameplay that will orient in that direction; the player that loves the fast, fluid, kinetic gameplay of Titanfall 2 that really orient in that direction; and the player that just has to play the two greatest shooters this year and will buy both.”

He then went on to explain that EA is “thinking about the long game” with this release strategy, with high expectations for Battlefield and Titanfall 2 over the next couple of years, not just in the short term holiday season.

KitGuru Says: I have been really enjoying Titanfall 2 but the game really does need more players. Hopefully, things will gradually pick up as we get closer to Christmas but it seems for now at least, it does seem like releasing Battlefield and Titanfall 2 in October may have been a poor decision, despite the quality of both games. Do you guys think EA was right to release Battlefield and Titanfall just one week apart?

In an effort to try and hurt Call of Duty sales this year, EA has gone ahead and released two massive multiplayer shooters within the space of one week – Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2. In this performance analysis, we will be focussing on Titanfall 2, which is Respawn Entertainment's chance to reinvigorate the IP with new mechanics and a full campaign mode, after the original game underwhelmed and lost a good chunk of players fairly early on in its life cycle.

Titanfall 2 is still based on the Source Engine, albeit a highly modified version, so all of the graphical features you would expect from a decent PC game are present. You can adjust the field of view up to 90, which is the sweet spot in my opinion. The game also comes with support for 21:9 resolutions and high refresh rate monitors.

Anti-aliasing comes in two forms, MSAA and TSAA. Texture quality can be set up to ‘Insane' while Shadows can be set to ‘Very High', everything else caps out at a ‘High' setting. There are some options missing, such as ambient occlusion and compared to Gears of War 4, the list actually seems pretty bare. However, given the engine Respawn has chosen to work with, this is a pretty decent turnout.

Titanfall 2 hasn't received much of a visual upgrade compared to the original 2014 title but it still holds its own. It might be based on the Source Engine but textures are all still great, gun models look excellent and the maps and game-world maintain a high level of graphical prowess.

For our performance tests today I will be running Titanfall 2 on the following system:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7 6700K with 4.2GHz boost clock.
  • Motherboard: Asus Maximus VIII Hero.
  • RAM: G.Skill 16GB 3200MHz DDR4.
  • Storage: 1TB Samsung 850 Evo SSD.
  • OS: Windows 10: Anniversary Update.

For graphics cards, I will be running the following:

  • MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X.
  • Asus GTX 1060 Strix.
  • MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G.
  • AMD R9 Fury X.
  • XFX R9 390x Ghost Edition.
  • Sapphire R9 290 Vapor-X.
  • Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+.

r9-furyx1rx-480

All of the graphics cards included in this test were run with the latest drivers installed. In Nvidia’s case that would be Driver Version 375.63 and on the AMD side, we are using Radeon Software 16.10.3. Both of these drivers were released with optimisations for Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2. Our results were obtained using FRAPS to record average and minimum frame rates. We chose the first level of the campaign to benchmark.

titanfall-2-1080p

titanfall-2-1440p

titanfall-2-2160p

Respawn Entertainment decided to leave the PC out of its beta testing plans for Titanfall 2 earlier this year, instead choosing to focus on the Xbox One and PS4. This did lead to some concern over the quality of the PC version but it turns out that Respawn has actually done a solid job as far as optimisation goes.

Prior to release, Respawn put out a set of system requirements for varying resolutions, with each spec geared towards hitting 60 frames per second. As you can see from our graphs above, hitting that average frame rate is fairly easy across all of our GPUs – even at 1440p. Some of our older cards, like the R9 290 and GTX 970 do buckle a bit at 1440p but turning a few settings down should solve that fairly quickly. Trading in Insane textures for a more stable 60 frames per second seems like a fair and sensible trade-off.

Hitting the 60 frames per second sweet spot is naturally a lot more difficult at 4K. Respawn recommends that you have at least a GTX 1080 for Ultra-HD resolutions and it is easy to see why. In our tests, it was the only card capable of truly coming close to the target.

Titanfall 2 runs like a dream but what about gameplay? Well, Respawn has made a number of really interesting changes for this sequel while still trying to stay true to the core of the original game. While maps in Titanfall were often smaller and tailored more towards parkour, the sequel opens things up a bit.

There are less seamless paths for pilots to run across as new maps are slightly larger with wider, more open spaces at some points. This change has made Titan combat much more appealing, as simply getting around is less of a hassle.

titanfall-screen-5 titanfall-2-screen-6

However, to make up for the more open map layout, pilots now come equipped with a grappling hook, allowing them to swing from one place to the next if they can't quite reach on foot. As someone who loved the pilot movement in the original game, this change did worry me on paper. However, in practice, it is an awesome addition that allows levels to strike a much better balance for both Titans and Pilots.

Gunplay is excellent, with all weapons feeling incredibly accurate and easy to come to grips with – in some ways it almost reminds me of Counter-Strike Source thanks to the tight bullet spread and super accurate crosshairs.

I have had limited time with Titanfall 2 over the weekend, so I have only been able to scrape around four hours of game time, most of which was spent within multiplayer. However, from what I have played of the campaign, it is a welcome addition to the game. Titanfall 1 had so many interesting ideas in terms of lore but you never got to truly learn about any of it within the game itself. That is different this time around and honestly, the story is far more interesting than the last few Call of Duty and Battlefield campaigns.

KitGuru Says: I have really enjoyed my time with Titanfall 2 so far. It has fun mechanics, the gunplay feels accurate and fast-paced, even the campaign seems like a cut above the rest from what I have experienced so far. However, with the game releasing between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty, it may have a rough time in terms of sales.

As fun as the original Titanfall was at launch, one of the issues the game had was its fragmented player base, which was largely brought on by the inclusion of map DLC. This time around though, Respawn Entertainment will be taking a different approach, making all future maps and game modes free for Titanfall 2, removing the need to shell out for a season pass.

In an effort to win over gamers, this week, Respawn took to the official Titanfall Twitter account to post: “Remember when buying a game got you everything? Another reason Titanfall 2 is different, no season pass needed”.

titanfall-2_b

That message alone does a good job of driving the point home, but an additional blog post was also put out, in which the studio elaborated further, explaining that the lack of season pass requirement means “no splitting up the community”. The first free map update will see the return of Angel City, which players will remember from the original Titanfall.

“This means once you’ve purchased Titanfall 2, your investment includes a full single player campaign, the full multiplayer maps and modes, and long-term support with no hidden costs. You can pre-order the game to play three days early, but it will never cost you extra”.

Titanfall 2 is coming out tomorrow for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Right now, we aren't sure if any paid DLC is planned for Titanfall 2 but for now at least, it seems Respawn is focussed on keeping the multiplayer alive long-term this time around.

KitGuru Says: It seems like Respawn is making some positive changes when it comes to post-launch updates for Titanfall 2. Hopefully, this means the player base will remain strong, as this is where the original game suffered- particularly on PC. Are any of you thinking about jumping in for Titanfall 2?

Much like AMD's release of its new game-ready driver for the big launches over the next week, Nvidia has also debuted a new driver set for Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 users to bring its cards up to scratch. As well as introducing optimised settings for big game releases, there are also new SLI profiles and bug fixes.

The official name for this driver is 375.57 and its big feature is the improvement and optimisation of Nvidia GPU experiences in games like Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1, Civilisation VI, Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope, and Eagle Flight VR. Additionally, Nvidia also introduced enhanced performance and quality in stereo VR “motion estimation only,” mode, which helps improve performance in particularly taxing VR experiences.

titfanll2

Along with these features, downloaders can expect a new SLI profile for Lineage Eternal: Twilight Resistance and new 3D Vision profiles for Titanfall 2 and Civilisation VI. Bug fixes include removing the flickering problem seen in Mirror's Edge Catalsyt when running two GTX 980M GPUs in SLI mode, killing off corruption in Overwatch decals and ending system crashes when switching to 240Hz mode on BenQ's Zowie monitors.

Some problems have yet to be fixed, so if you're running Windows 10 be a little wary of memory leaks in Forza Horizon 3, the intensity slider maxing out in Mirror's Edge Catalyst if you're running SLI twinned GTX Titans, and Assassin's Creed: Syndicate is still having problems with intermittent flickering.

If you want to see the full list of changes and outstanding issues, you can read the full release notes here. To download the drivers, head over to Nvidia's official pages for Windows 7/8.1 and Windows 10.

KitGuru Says: This driver is of course fully WHQL certified, so it's got the thumbs up, even if there are a few issues Nvidia is still working on. That's par for the course with drivers though, they're never perfect.

Update: Titanfall 2 is just over a week from landing on PC and from what we've seen so far, the game looks pretty great. We may not have got a beta on PC, but Respawn Entertainment did provide a detailed breakdown of PC features, optimisations and system requirements and just a few weeks ago, we got out first look at 4K/60fps multiplayer gameplay. Now, we have a new 4K/60fps gameplay video to awe at, this time focussing on the single player campaign.

This video comes courtesy of Nvidia, with the footage being recorded on a system featuring a Titan X (Pascal). However, you may not need a Titan X to achieve this level of performance, as Respawn has previously claimed that 4K/60fps will be achievable on a GTX 1080.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=couaYRuHZy0′]

Original Story: Titanfall 2 isn't too far off from its 28th of October release date and while PC players didn't get the chance to try the game out in beta, Respawn Entertainment has been ramping up its focus on the PC over the last week. Now aside from a detailed look at PC features and system requirements, we have our first gameplay footage of the game itself, running at 4K/60 frames per second.

Titanfall 2 has been designed to run at 60 frames per second across the board, albeit at different resolutions. The recommended system requirements include an Intel Core i5 processor and a GTX 1060, though this configuration should allow you to run the game at 1080p/60 with ultra settings. If you have already made the jump to 4K, then Titanfall 2 promises 60 frames per second gameplay with an Intel Core i7 6700K, 16GB of RAM and a GTX 1080. Speaking of which, you can see the game running at 4K/60 frames per second in the video below:

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BztWf34sVXI']

Aside from that, Titanfall 2 appears to be ready for release, as Respawn Entertainment lead, Vince Zampella, tweeted out today that the game has officially gone gold, meaning the team should be prepared for launch and start working on any future content.

KitGuru Says: Titanfall 2 looks like a lot of fun, though it is a shame that us PC players won't get a chance to try the game before deciding to buy it. Still, hopefully Titanfall 2 will hold on to its player base better than the original.

There has been some concern surrounding Titanfall 2 on the PC this time around, as Respawn Entertainment announced that PC gamers would not get a chance to test the game prior to launch, unlike those on console. However, it does seem that the PC version of the game is still a big focus, as today a lengthy blog post was released, detailing all of the PC graphics options, system requirements and other features.

First up, for minimum requirements, you are going to need an Intel Core i3, 8GB of RAM and a GTX 660 or Radeon HD 7850 graphics card. With this spec, you should be able to keep most of the details turned up and achieve 60 frames per second at 1600×900. The recommended spec is aimed at those looking for a maxed out experience at 1080p, while retaining a smooth 60 frames per second. For that, you will need an Intel Core i5 6600, 16GB of RAM and a GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 480 GPU.

If you have already made the jump to 4K, then Respawn has you covered there too. If you want to run Titanfall 2 with ultra settings at 4K and get a smooth 60 frames per second, then you will want an Intel Core i7 6700K, 16GB of RAM and a GTX 1080. The game is going to take up 45GB of storage space and it will run on Windows 7/8/8.1 and 10 since it uses DirectX 11.

06ae38360e3e4ebfbff3e12d0b5a3b9f

We are off to a good start with the detailed system requirements. However, the blog post doesn't stop there as there is a long list of PC graphics options.

  • Anti-Aliasing – None, TSAA, MSAA (2x, 4x, 8x)
  • Ambient Occlusion – Enabled, Disabled
  • Aspect Ratio – 4:3, 16:9, 16:10, 21:9
  • Brightness – Slider
  • Display Mode – Fullscreen, Windowed
  • Dynamic Spot Shadows – Enabled, Disabled
  • Effects Detail – Low, Medium, High
  • FOV – Slider
  • Impact Marks – Disabled, Low, High
  • Model Detail – Low, Medium, High
  • Ragdolls – Low, Medium, High
  • Spot Shadow Detail – Disabled, Low, High, Very High
  • Sun Shadow Detail – Disabled, Low, High, Very High
  • Texture Filtering – Bilinear, Trilinear, Anisotropic (2x, 4x, 8x, 16x)
  • Texture Quality – Low, Medium, High, Very High, Insane
  • V-Sync – Off, Double-buffered, Triple-buffered,Adaptive, Adaptive Half-refresh, Dynamic V-Sync

For other options, you can expect support for 144Hz monitors, as well as 21:9 ultra-wide displays. You will get control over mouse acceleration, key rebindings and you will also get individual localisation to reduce the amount of audio files you need to download. There will be cloud saves, support for gamepads, text and voice chat and a solid anti-cheat system out of the box. So essentially, all the standards you would expect.

The whole blog post goes into great detail about the game and its PC build, so if you are interested in Titanfall 2, it is worth reading through.

KitGuru Says: While we aren't getting a beta for the PC version of the game, it does look like Respawn is making an effort to show that it is taking the PC version seriously and isn't just focussing on the console builds.

If you were hoping to give Titanfall 2 a go before it comes out at the end of October, then you may have to settle for it on console as Respawn Entertainment has confirmed that there will be no beta for the PC version of the game. The multiplayer test, which is due to arrive soon, will only be available on the PS4 and Xbox One, while PC players will be left out.

Respawn head, Vince Zampella explained why PC gamers were getting left out in a blog post, claiming that right now the PC version of the game isn't ready and has yet to be tested across a wide range of hardware: “Two big issues from a development standpoint: hardware variety & “min spec” optimization. We're still making a lot of tweaks and changes to the renderer, the game, and effects so we haven't run the game through the hardware compatibility lab yet to detect and handle a large variety of hardware – video cards, CPUs etc. Quite frankly, we aren't ready to deal with that yet, we are still making the game better.”

Titanfall2_02

Aside from the PC version of the game just not being ready to try out ahead of launch, apparently Respawn are also worried about data miners digging up spoilers for the single player campaign ahead of time: “Also, because the single player story has some wonderful secrets that we really want to preserve for launch, we also have to worry about leaks. Our wonderfully curious PC players have proven in the past that they will dig out anything they can, and there's a risk that they could spoil some of our single player.”

We don't know when the beta is coming to console but hopefully EA has a game trial or something to give PC gamers a chance to try the game before laying down the cash.

KitGuru Says: As fun as Titanfall was for the first few weeks, the game dropped off the map fairly quickly so I imagine quite a few people will be wanting to at least try the game before putting down the money for it. As popular as Titanfall was when the series first launched in 2014, it hasn't proven to have the staying power of a big franchise like Battlefield or Call of Duty. However, that isn't going to deter EA this winter as Titanfall 2 will be launching within three weeks of Battlefield 1 and potentially within one week of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

The maths could be a little off, as EA has yet to specify whether Titanfall 2 will launch three weeks before or three weeks after Battlefield 1- which comes out on the 21st of October this year. So Titanfall 2 is currently planned to release some time between the 30th of September and the 11th of November.

Titanfall-2-e1460394230923

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare this year comes out on the 4th of November, so Titanfall 2 will have two pretty massive shooters to compete against this holiday season. Things could potentially change later down the line, particularly now that EA isn't so opposed to delaying games. However, for now, this seems to be the plan.

KitGuru Says: I really liked Titanfall but its sequel will have a tough time going up against both Call of Duty and Battlefield within such a short space of time given how huge both franchises are. Do you guys think Titanfall 2 can hold its own releasing in the middle of Battlefield and COD?

Titanfall 2 is landing later this year and while we haven't seen much past the teaser trailer just yet, a leak today has given us a good idea of what to expect from the sequel, including some larger maps and new gameplay mechanics- one of which involves a grappling hook.

Grappling hooks in Titanfall 2 will have multiple uses including grounding enemies jumping through the air, to help out in free running and to get into your Titan from a distance, according to the leaker on Reddit.

We may also see some larger map designs in Titanfall 2, if the leaked artwork is anything to go by as it appears to be larger than the areas seen in the original game. That said, one of the best things about Titanfall originally was its smart level design, meaning you were never really too far from the action so hopefully that won't be sacrificed.

Right now, the rumoured release date for Titanfall 2 is October, which means it may end up coming out in the same month as Battlefield 1. Right now, the only official information we have on the release date is that it is due in Q3 of the fiscal year, which could mean any time between October and December. However, with E3 right around the corner, we should find out more information soon.

KitGuru Says: I was a big fan of Titanfall when it first came out but the game didn't really catch on in the way many had hoped and eventually, the matchmaking system struggled to find full games. Hopefully the sequel will end up living a bit of a longer and more successfully life.

Titanfall was a pretty solid game, it had good mechanics, it had giant mechs but for whatever reason, the game didn't have the staying power of some larger multiplayer franchises. So how can Respawn spruce things up for the sequel? Well the obvious first step would be to give the mechs giant swords, which is exactly what is shown in the new trailer for Titanfall 2.

Titanfall 2 was officially revealed today in a short teaser trailer, with the full reveal coming in June at EA's pre-E3 event.

We have known for some time that Titanfall 2 was being worked on but aside from that, little else was known. However, the new game will be coming to the PC, Xbox One and PS4 this time around. It will also feature a campaign mode, which is something many people wanted in the first game.

Titanfall had a lot of cool concepts, all of the maps had interesting settings and you could even see monsters on the outskirts but due to the lack of story, nothing in the world was ever really explained. Hopefully that will change in the sequel which is said to contain a lot of scenes where “science meets magic”.

KitGuru Says: I was a big fan of the original Titanfall but unfortunately after just a few weeks, it seemed fairly difficult to get a full game. Hopefully Respawn has some ideas in mind to make Titanfall 2 a bigger success, with the legs to last as long as some of the bigger multiplayer franchises.

Titanfall was a good game but it was not without its problems. While gameplay was pretty solid for the most part, the game lacked in weapon variety and it didn't really feature a proper campaign. However, Respawn has “heard the feedback” so Titanfall 2 may end up expanding on all of that.

When Titanfall launched, we saw plenty of concept art and even monsters/creatures flying around the multiplayer maps. Clearly, Respawn did think about maybe fleshing out the world it was building, but didn't end up doing it in the first game.

Speaking on the EXL Podcast (Via Polygon), Respawn's community manager said: “When you work on a game for so long, there's always lots of things we — especially everyone here internally has all different sorts of things they want to do. We've definitely heard the feedback. Obviously, I can't comment on what we're doing in the next game, but the really nice thing about working on a sequel is that we've established the core of what Titanfall is. We have assets, we have an engine, we have all of these things that we laid the foundation for in the first game that now we can really build off of in the second.”

No specific or exact details were given but it is fair to say that a significant amount of the criticism Titanfall faced was down to its lack of proper campaign and variety when it came to the Titans and the weapons. Maybe we will hear more at E3 in June.

KitGuru Says: Titanfall 2 likely won't be launching this year. However, it is still good to hear that Respawn is looking to respond to player feedback with its sequel. Titanfall was pretty solid gameplay wise, now Respawn just needs to expand on its foundations. What would you guys like to see in Titanfall 2? Do you think it should feature a dedicated single player campaign? Should their be more variety?

Let's face it, we pretty much already knew that there would be a sequel to Titanfall, although Respawn Entertainment had yet to officially confirm it. Now we have confirmation that Titanfall 2 is on the way, as a multi-platform title, thanks to Respawn CEO, Vince Zampella.

Speaking with IGN, Zampella said: “I guess EA announced a sequel, so I could play coy and pretend I don't know anything about it, or… yeah. So we're working on a sequel. No official name yet, but we're working on that. That's the main focus but we're starting up a second team and doing some smaller stuff too. Small, exploratory, taking it slow! It'll be multiplatform.”

Titanfall 2 will may feature a new DLC model, with free maps in order to not divide the player base. This likely means that there will be some form of cosmetic DLC to make that money back.

“I think having the maps like that in packs, it does split the community and it makes it harder for matchmaking, it's messy. Yeah. I don't know that we won't do it again, I can't say that for sure, but the idea would be to do something different.”

The new game will expand the lore of the world, Zampella didn't say for sure but hopefully that means there will be a proper story mode this time around, rather than a batch of nine multiplayer missions.

KitGuru Says: It looks like EA wants to turn Titanfall in to a franchise. It was a fun game, the problem was that the playerbase dwindled far too quickly. Hopefully Respawn will have taken on feedback and will deliver a better game next time around.

The sequel to Microsoft's first big exclusive title of 2014, Titanfall, is likely being worked on according to an EA executive. Additionally, the sequel won't be platform exclusive, something that has been hinted at several times in the past. Allowing more people to actually buy should also result in higher sales.

“We haven't yet announced, but we'll probably have another Titanfall game,” Blake Jorgensen, Electronic Arts' chief financial officer, said during a talk at the Technology, Internet & Media Conference. “It will probably be a bigger footprint than just a single platform. I think that's a huge positive for us.”

Jorgensen didn't mention a release window for the game but did hint that the company plans to launch a new first person shooter title every year that isn't necessarily Battlefield. “So, this year Battlefield Hardline, next fiscal year Battlefront. The following year probably another Battlefield, maybe a Titanfall on the way. You're gonna have that kind of rotation always, but it won't be the same exact franchise that runs the risk of getting tired.”

The original Titanfall is exclusive to Microsoft platforms including the PC, Xbox One and Xbox 360. Maybe we will see a Titanfall sequel announced for next year over the summer.

KitGuru Says: Titanfall was a game with plenty of potential but unfortunately, a lot of people stopped playing shortly after launch, which isn't great for a multiplayer title. I particularly enjoyed the parkour elements of the game. Would any of you guys be interested in a Titanfall sequel? What would you like to see Respawn do differently this time around?
