Troll and I is a game that we first had a look at back at EGX 2016 in the Leftfield collection and it looked and played well then. Now though we're just a few weeks away from its official release, so Maximum Games' latest trailer is giving us a much deeper look at the game and its asymmetrical, cooperative gameplay.

Troll and I is a story with a unique setting: the Scandinavian wilderness in the 1950s. A young boy called Otto finds his home destroyed and upon escaping some orcs disturbed by hunters, meets his Troll pal and together, they must survive against the elements, complete puzzles and smash unwary orcs as they rampage through the landscape.

Troll and I works a little like a two player Trine, whereby Troll and Otto both have unique abilities and skills, meaning that if you play by yourself you'll need to switch between them at times. However, in cooperative split-screen mode, players will have to coordinate their actions so that they are in the right place at the right time.

To combat the variety of enemies they'll face on their journey – like orcs and gun toting bigfoot hunters – players can utilise the environment, such as crafting spears from sticks and branches or have Troll hurl giant boulders.

Troll and I launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC on 21st March, with a Nintendo Switch version showing up somewhere down the line.

KitGuru Says: One of the more interesting aspects of this game is the way the split-screen divide is handled. It's not your average horizontal line, but that does offer a little more headroom in the third person perspective. What do you think of this rather pretty indi game?
