The Overwatch 2 beta went live this week and in a surprise move, Blizzard also partnered up with Twitch to give away beta access to pretty much anyone who logged in yesterday and watched an Overwatch 2 stream. As it turns out, far more people wanted to get in than anticipated, leading to Overwatch's biggest day ever on Twitch.

Players hoping to get into the Overwatch beta were all watching Overwatch 2 streams yesterday, or at the very least, had a stream running in the background. Around 200 streamers participated in the OW2 beta launch, generating 1.5 million concurrent views, the highest ever in the history of Overwatch.

Now because there were so many people eligible for drops, the rollout for beta access is a little slow. It can take up to an hour for the beta to show up in your Battle.net account after claiming the drop through Twitch. If you claim the drop but don't have your battle.net account connected to Twitch, then it could take longer to receive access.

The Overwatch 2 beta offers a first look at the game's PvP mode, which has moved from a 6v6 format in Overwatch 1 to 5v5. The beta features all the maps and heroes from the original game, as well as a few brand new maps and one new playable hero. The game will also have a major PvE game mode, but this isn't available to play at this time. Overwatch 2 is expected to launch in 2023.

KitGuru Says: The Overwatch 2 beta was in high demand yesterday, although the Twitch Drops event should now be over. Did many of you tune in yesterday to gain access?

The Overwatch 2 beta goes live today and it looks like more players are going to be invited than initially expected. Alongside Blizzard's own invite system, Overwatch 2 beta access will also be given away through the Twitch drops system.

If you haven't received an invite directly through Blizzard, you can obtain Overwatch 2 beta access through Twitch. All you have to do is link up your Twitch account with your Battle.net account and then accrue four hours of watch time on selected Overwatch 2 streams. As soon as the four hours are up, you'll get a claimable drop for beta access.

The list of participating streams is massive, covering 200 Twitch partners. You can swap between streams at any time without losing watch time towards the drop, and if you don't really feel like watching Twitch all day, you can keep the stream running in the background while you do other things.

All of the streams will be taking place tomorrow, the 27th of April, from 10AM PT to 6PM PT, you can find the full list of participating streams in Blizzard's Overwatch 2 beta FAQ.

KitGuru Says: Overwatch 2 is still a year or so away from release, so it will be interesting to see what state the game is in currently so early on. Will you be trying to get in to the beta this week?

Riot Games has been granting access to the Valorant closed beta via the Twitch Drops system through partnership with a number of prominent streamers. Now, the system is active on any stream broadcasting Valorant on Twitch, meaning you can watch any streamer for a chance to get beta access and not just direct partners.

“Starting now, all VALORANT Twitch streams can drop closed beta access (as long as they are playing VALORANT)”, a new post from Riot reads. Beta drops are still running 24/7 and the number of streams that can grant them have increased, but the number of accounts being granted beta access is not increasing at this time. The number of accounts brought into the beta may increase over time as Riot ramps up additional back-end resources.

Right now, the Valorant beta is live for players in Europe, Canada, United States, Turkey, Russia and CIS countries. Soon, access will also come to Brazil, LATAM and Korea, with other countries to follow.

The final message from Riot this week reminds players that they are aware of the high demand for beta access and how it can be frustrating to not get access after several days of consistently watching on Twitch. It is something that the team is working to improve as the server infrastructure continues to be rolled out worldwide.
