A recent change to one of Steam's APIs unintentionally revealed the hidden release dates behind a lot of games. On Steam, publishers and developers can set a hidden release date for apps before announcing dates publicly. Many of the release dates shown through the leak are placeholders, but there are some legitimate ones too.

Last year, Sony announced that it will be bringing Uncharted 4 and Uncharted Lost Legacy to PS5 in early 2022, with a PC release coming later. The Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is already listed on Steam, and this API leak has revealed that Sony plans to release it on the 15th of July.

Sony has been releasing PS4 titles on PC for a couple of years now, starting with Horizon Zero Dawn in 2020 and Day's Gone in 2021. This year, God of War has released on Steam, and Uncharted is coming next.

After Uncharted, it is rumoured that we may see The Last of Us and Ghost of Tsushima hitting PC next. Sony is also currently working on the PS VR2, which may be compatible with PCs as well as the PS5 thanks to its USB-C interface.

Last week, April’s free PlayStation Plus titles had allegedly leaked. The console manufacturer has now finally announced which titles subscribers to its online service can expect – and it is as the leaks foretold. For the month of April, PS Plus subscribers can look forward to receiving Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Dirt Rally 2.0 on the 7th of April.

To those of you who own a PlayStation 4, Uncharted 4 needs no introduction. The final chapter of Nathan’s Drake’s saga which has spanned two consoles and a handheld, Uncharted 4 released in 2016 to universal acclaim. The game later went on to sell over 15 million copies.

For those who have yet to meet Nathan Drake however, Uncharted 4 is a third person action-adventure title which sees the series’ protagonist “forced back into the world of thieves. With the stakes much more personal, Drake embarks on a visually stunning globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure. Nathan Drake’s greatest adventure will require quick wits, fast fists and inventive use of weaponry while testing his physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he’s willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves.”

The second game on offer is Dirt Rally 2.0. Developed by Codemasters (who have been creating racing games since the 1980s), Dirt Rally 2.0 is the sequel to 2015’s ‘Dirt Rally’, and puts great emphasis on its realistic driving physics. The game allows you to “Perfect precision driving and develop nerves of steel as you roar through a selection of iconic rally tracks from across the globe in search of championship glory”. With “race-altering weather systems, in-depth car customizations and much more,” Dirt Rally 2.0 should fulfill all your racing simulator needs.

If you have yet to redeem March’s titles (Shadow of the Colossus and Sonic Forces), then you still have until the 7th of April, at which point they will be replaced by Uncharted 4 and Dirt Rally 2.0.

At times, it can be easy to forget that PlayStation Now exists. While Sony was ahead of the competition when it came to subscriptions and streaming, the service hasn’t had as much of a push as something like Xbox Game Pass or upcoming services like Google Stadia. It looks like that is starting to change a bit, with PlayStation Now getting a significant price cut in addition to some very high profile games.

PlayStation Now is dropping subscription prices down from £12.99 per month to £8.99 per month and the annual subscription is coming down from £84.99 to £49.99 here in the UK. A new ‘quarterly’ subscription option has also been introduced for £22.99. In the US, the new prices are $9.99 per month, $24.99 per quarter or $59.99 per year.

In addition to the price cuts, several major games are being added to the library, including God Of War (2018), Uncharted 4, Grand Theft Auto V and Infamous Second Son. However, God of War, Uncharted 4 and Infamous Second Son will be leaving the library in January 2020, so this is a limited time, holiday season push.

Sony has also committed itself to adding “a refreshed selection of marquee games” to PlayStation Now every month. One important thing to note here is that PlayStation Now is not just accessible on PS4 consoles, it is also available on PC, so if you really want to play God of War or Uncharted 4 but without the extra expense of a console, this could be an option for you.

KitGuru Says: Adding God of War to the library is bound to sell a few subscriptions, even if the game is being streamed rather than played natively. Are any of you tempted to try PlayStation Now while some of the major exclusives are available?

As much as virtual reality has a lot of cool content on offer for early adopters to play, there are still a lot of games and environments we'd love to experience in VR. If you feel like being creative with a bit of photogrammetary software though, it turns out you can use in-game photo modes from some games to create your very own AAA VR environments.

Photogrammetry might traditionally be used for surveying purposes, but it can also be used to create stunning looking virtual environments, by stitching together a large number of images. In-fact, if you have enough of them, you can use specialised software to make highly detailed recreations scenes from your favourite games.

Take the case of Uncharted 4, which has a very detailed photo mode. Youtuber and VR fan, Let's Read About It, used a particular scene from the game and after taking tens of images of the room, was able to create a very nice looking VR environment with tessellated brick walls and everything.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW3Vj2UMYzs']

Of course it isn't an interactive room. The doors will never open and stepping outside will leave you staring into blackness, but it's interesting to see what might be possible with some games. In-fact, you have to wonder if a script could be made to automate the image capturing, if that would allow for an expansive visual recreation of many games within virtual reality.

Indeed this doesn't have to be restricted to game worlds. The real world too can utilise photogrammetry to trick our minds into thinking we're somewhere we're not. That's what Valve used for its The Lab demonstrations, whereby you teleport to different parts of the world.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8FPunc_RTE']

Realities.io has also been using this technique to create unbelievably life-like renditions of real world locations too, so we wouldn't be surprised if we saw more of this technique in the future.

KitGuru Says: Admittedly whole worlds created like this would likely feel rather dead without physics or interactivity of any sort, but for vistas and quick looks at characters or particular scenes, it's a clever effect.

In the last year, two shipments of Nintendo products have been stolen in transit here in the UK and now the same thing is happening to Sony, as a “violent assault” resulted in early copies of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End being stolen. A few copies of the game have already surfaced in the UK, according to Sony Interactive's president, Shuhei Yoshida, who has spoken out to warn fans of potential spoilers for the final game in Naughty Dog's series.

Writing on the PlayStation blog, Yoshida explained the situation: “We have some unfortunate news to report that a number of copies of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End were stolen while in transit. While we are continuing to work with the police to resolve the matter – which is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation – it appears that a few copies of the game have surfaced in the UK.”

“From what I have played of Nathan Drake’s latest adventure, I can tell you that it is very much worth the wait. As with most Naughty Dog games, the unfolding story is such an integral part of the experience and for this reason we wanted to warn you to beware of the potential for spoilers to be posted by people with access to stolen copies of the game.”

In a statement sent to MCV, a Sony spokesperson added that the game's release date is still the 10th of May, even though some may manage to get their hands on the game early. “We would like to reassure our players and partners that we are taking all possible steps to make the launch of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End the success it deserves to be for the millions of fans of Naughty Dog and the Uncharted series.”

KitGuru Says: You can't help but feel bad for the team that put thousands of hours of work into this project, only to have something like this happen so close to launch.

Sony and Naughty Dog have had to delay the PlayStation 4's next big exclusive title, Uncharted 4, once again. The final entry in Nathan Drake's story was originally due to release last year but was pushed back to March this year. Shortly after, that release date was moved to April and now, it has been pushed back just a bit more to May.

The good news is that this delay was purely for manufacturing purposes to ensure that there are enough physical copies of the game to go around worldwide at launch so this should actually be the last delay.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will now be releasing on the 10th of May. The announcement was made in a post on the PlayStation Blog, which said: “We know this news might be disappointing, and we are sorry to have to make you wait a little longer to play Naughty Dog’s latest. The good news is that the game is phenomenal — we are fully confident that it will be worth the wait and the team at Naughty Dog is eager as ever for you to experience Nathan Drake’s final adventure.”

Those of you who do own a PS4 can get a look at Uncharted 4 this weekend during the open multiplayer beta.

KitGuru Says: I actually just bought a PS4 myself so I'm currently working through the Nathan Drake collection before Uncharted 4 launches. Have any of you been looking forward to Uncharted 4? Any thoughts on the game being delayed so many times?

Sony's big 2015 system seller, Uncharted 4, has been pushed back until Spring 2016, the directors of the game have announced. Naughty Dog initially revealed Uncharted 4 last year and has even shown a little bit of gameplay.

However, it turns out that the game is becoming more ambitious than originally anticipated. The studio has already had to backtrack on its 1080p and 60 frames per second statements and now the release date has also taken a slide.

U4_E3_1920x1080

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Uncharted 4 directors, Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann said: “it’s become clear to us that this game is much more ambitious than we originally envisioned. After spending so many years with Nathan Drake, he means a lot to the team, and telling the climactic chapter of his adventures is a task we don’t take lightly.”
“So we’ve made the difficult choice of pushing the game’s release date. Giving us a few extra months will make certain that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End not only meets the team’s high standards but the high standards that gamers have come to expect from a Naughty Dog title.”

The studio then goes on to thank fans for their patience, promising a Spring 2016 release window.

KitGuru Says: Microsoft paid out for the timed Tomb Raider exclusive this holiday season in order to combat the release of Uncharted 4. Now that tactic seems to have gone to waste. This is also quite the hit to Sony’s current end of year release lineup, although there may be some announcements to come at E3.

Last year, Naughty Dog began heavily teasing Uncharted 4, with a big focus on 60 frames per second gameplay on the PlayStation 4. Unfortunately this year, some of that enthusiasm appears to be gone as Naughty Dog developer, and Director of Uncharted 4, Bruce Straley, has said that the frame rate target may well be cut down in favor of other aspects.

If 60 frames per second somehow ends up compromising the gameplay experience, then Uncharted 4 will be capped at 30, much like the past titles in the series on PS3.

Uncharted-4-A-Thiefs-End-HD-Wallpaper

Speaking in the latest issue of Edge magazine, Straley said: “We're going to do whatever it takes to make the game we want to make. If it means we could go for 60 but lose something that would really impact the player's experience, then it's our choice as developers to say, ‘Well, we're going to go for the experience instead of the 60 frames.”

Last year, Naughty Dog released The Last of Us Remastered, running at 1080p and 60 frames per second. Following massive praise from critics and gamers alike, the company seemed confident that 60 frames per second was the way forward and began teasing Uncharted 4, which raised a lot of hype.

To some, Uncharted 4 being locked at 30 frames per second won't seem like such a big deal as it is the same frame rate that the other games ran at. However, it is unfortunate that Naughty Dog seems to be changing its mind on 60 frames per second as a standard.

KitGuru Says: Naughty Dog seemed pretty certain that Uncharted 4 would launch with 1080p and 60 frames per second last year. Unfortunately, that vision seems to have disappeared. Either way, we will know by the end of this year when the game officially launches.

Naughty Dog has confirmed that it is continuing to push for 1080p and 60 frames per second for all of its future games on the Playstation 4. The company's dedication to full HD resolution and smoother frame rates solidified after it released The Last of Us Remastered on the PS4, which garnered up plenty of praise from fans and critics alike.

Naughty Dog is currently working on its Uncharted series follow up, Uncharted 4: A Theif's End, we've seen a few impressive looking images from the game so far, including an in-engine PS4 render of Nathan Drake's face. Unfortunately though, its just a picture of a picture, rather than a proper shot.

Nathan Drake

While talking about achieving 1080p and 60 frames per second, Naughty Dog Community Manager, Arne Meyer, said: “I think that's what we want to push for with anything we're doing on this generation. That's sort of the mandate from when we were building the PS4 engine. Let's see if we can do this and hit it. We hit it with The Last of Us Remastered, so why not stick with this?”

Many Playstation owners are looking forward to the next Uncharted game. However, rumors have been floating around about a potential PS4 remaster of the original trilogy, much like the Last of Us, Meyer has addressed those rumors, stating that “I personally think it would work well, because there's a lot of attention on the studio between the success of Uncharted 2, 3 and The Last of Us. It'd be nice to give players the opportunity to go back and play the older games, and people who are new to the PlayStation platform.”

However, Meyer also noted that the team is very busy and doesn't know if they'll have the time or man power to dedicate to it any time soon: “I think that'd be great – but I have no idea how that could fall into our timeline.”

The Last of Us Remastered took around a year to create with a full, dedicated team working on it the entire time, so it's possible that Naughty Dog just doesn't have the time right now to properly re-create the first three Uncharted games for the PS4.

KitGuru Says: It's nice to see that Naughty Dog has the right idea, gamers generally tend prefer the smoother 60 frames per second experience over 30. More developers should follow in Naughty Dog's footsteps and learn that 30 frames per second does not offer a ‘cinematic feel'. Are you guys glad to see a console developer striving to hit 1080p and 60 frames per second? Do you think that Naughty Dog will manage to hit both targets like it did with The Last of Us Remastered?
