Choosing the right mic can often be a confusing and complex process. Endorfy is aiming to make achieving great sounding mic audio a lot simpler with the release of the Solum Voice S, a plug and play USB condenser microphone that has onboard controls for everything you'll need. There's no software required or even available for this microphone, you just plug it in and away you go. Can this stripped-back approach to microphone design result in top tier audio quality?

Just how good can it really be?

Audio quality is arguably more important than visual quality; it’s much easier to watch a bad quality video with great audio as opposed to great visuals with horrendous audio quality. NZXT – yes, the case manufacturer! – is aiming to take the world by storm with its brand-new USB microphone called the Capsule, coming in at £109.99. Is their first dedicated microphone any good though? Let’s check it out!

Pros:

  • Excellent audio quality and clarity.
  • Build quality and aesthetics are great.
  • Almost non-existent setup time.
  • Easily removable stand.
  • Metal threads and included adapter for boom arms.

Cons:

  • Wobbly gain control knob can introduce noise.
  • No indication of what gain setting you’re using (knob spins indefinitely).
  • Slightly fiddly to reattach desk stand once removed.

KitGuru says: If you’re someone that wants instantly good audio just by adjusting the gain level then we definitely recommend the Capsule by NZXT. If you're after a more complete route with in-depth software, maybe check out the Elgato Wave:3.

HyperX has launched a USB microphone aimed at creators and streamers. Named HyperX SoloCast, this microphone features ‘Plug N Play' audio recording for an easy setup process and a convenient tap-to-mute system with an LED status indicator.

The HyperX SoloCast uses a cardioid recording pattern, ideal to record audio sources in front of the microphone, making it great “for in-game voice chat, streaming voice audio, and audio recordings for content creation”. Other technical specs include 16-bit audio, frequency response from 20Hz to 20kHz, and a -6dBFS sensitivity.

The small stand allows users to rotate and tilt the microphone to their liking and needs, allowing them to fit it under a monitor or other cramped spaces. The included mount adapter fits both 3/8-inch and 5/8-inch thread sizes, making it compatible with most microphones stands and arms.

The HyperX SoloCast is certified by TeamSpeak and Discord and compatible with streaming applications such as OBS, XSplit, and Streamlabs OBS. Besides PC, it's also compatible with Mac and PS4.

Nate Almond, audio business manager at HyperX, stated that the company is “always looking for new ways to deliver an amazing user experience”, and with the SoloCast, HyperX is doing that by offering streamers and content creators a new recording solution.

The HyperX SoloCast USB microphone is available now for $59.99.

KitGuru says: Do you use a dedicated microphone or an in-line mic? Would you like to get a HyperX SoloCast for your setup?
