Final Fantasy VII rebirth launched late last month to rave reviews, with the 2nd part of the remake trilogy becoming one of the highest rated entries in the entire series. Despite this, the game has been criticised somewhat for its performance mode’s visuals. Fortunately, according to the game’s director another patch is on its way.

As reported by the publication OneMoreGame, the director for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth – Naoki Hamaguchi – spoke briefly on FFVII Rebirth’s future updates, claiming that:

“We’ve received a lot of feedback on whether the graphics in the performance mode will be improved or not. We hear you, and we are currently working on an update patch to improve that aspect. I don’t think the release date would be far away from now.”

For context, prior to the game’s official launch Square Enix released a demo for Rebirth which included heavily degraded visuals in the game’s 60fps performance mode. A patch was released to improve this aspect in both the demo and final release.

While the update did indeed improve things, toggling the performance mode post-update still came with massive drawbacks – especially when compared to its quality mode.

It is therefore encouraging to see the team at Square Enix continue to tweak visuals post-launch – hopefully fixing one of the very few complaints fans currently have with the remake.

Ever since Final Fantasy VII Remake was confirmed to be coming to the PlayStation 4, a great deal of speculation took place with regards to when/if the title would arrive on other systems. It was eventually ported to PCs however there is seemingly no sign of an Xbox/Nintendo version. According to one insider, no plans exist currently for such ports.

Industry insider Nate the Hate (also known as NateDrake) took to the FamiBoards forum to respond to one rumour which stated that Final Fantasy VII Remake is planned to be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, saying:

“FF7 Remake is not a current plan. Could it happen, eventually? Sure. Is it an active plan at this moment? No. A Switch 2 release exists in the same way an Xbox release does. IF Square wants to do it, they can & will; but no such plan exists at the present.”

In the years since FFVII Remake arrived on PlayStation there have been many back and forth rumours claiming that the title would be ported to other systems due to the footnotes of trailers claiming specific exclusivity windows and whatnot.

Additionally, Xbox’s own official social media pages have in the past slipped up and accidentally used Final Fantasy VII Remake in their promotional posts – leading some at the time to think a port announcement was imminent.

So far, none of this has come to fruition (aside from the PC release) and so it seems as though for now, you should keep your hopes in check – and maybe one day FFVII Remake will eventually be announced for Xbox / Switch.

During Sony’s recent State of Play we got another exciting look at the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth – the follow-up title to 2020’s FFVII Remake. Alongside an announcement of the sequel’s release date, Square Enix has now made pre-orders available for Rebirth. Interestingly, those who digitally purchase the game ahead of launch will be given a copy of FFVII Remake entirely for free.

As with many current-gen AAA games, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a £69.99 experience. That said, in an interesting move Square Enix is currently offering a ‘FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE & REBIRTH Twin Pack’ for the exact same price as Rebirth on its own.

This promotional deal will only be available during the pre-order period of the game, meaning the twin pack will increase in price to £99 from the 29th of February onwards. It is also worth noting that the version of FFVII included with this twin pack is the Intergrade edition – meaning it is the PS5 version which also includes the game’s DLC for an even better deal.

With Final Fantasy VII Rebirth being a direct continuation of the first Remake entry, it makes sense as to why Square Enix is offering these titles as a twin pack. Even so, the fact that FFVII Remake Intergrade is essentially being given away for free is a welcome surprise to say the least. Hopefully more developers follow suit.

After Resident Evil 6, there was a lot of concern around the next game in the series. The franchise was at a low point and Capcom needed to shake things up. Eventually, Resident Evil 7 turned out to be an excellent game and a fresh starting point for newcomers to the series. However, it almost went in the complete opposite direction, one producer has revealed.

This week in an interview on the official Biohazard YouTube channel (via VGC), Capcom Executive Producer, Jun Takeuchi, touched on the rough early days of development on Resident Evil 7. During the interview, he explains that Capcom marketing folks wanted to push multiplayer, DLC, microtransactions and live service elements.

“So we were being told ‘make this, make that’, it was really hard on the directors at the time. ‘Online multiplayer’ this, ‘downloadable content’ that. ‘Ongoing service games! Microtransactions! Make a Resident Evil game that ticks all those boxes!”, he says in the interview. “Seriously, there were so many demands… those poor directors”.

Eventually, Capcom President, Kenzo Tsujimoto, stepped in and gave the development team the greenlight to make the game they actually wanted to make. The end result was Resident Evil 7 as we know it today, which kickstarted a new trilogy of games and put the franchise back on the map. Now, Resident Evil is in a better position than ever, and Capcom has seen high sales.

There is still at least a small part of Capcom still pushing for multiplayer, as Resident Evil 3 Remake had a tie-in 4v1 mode, and Resident Evil Village is getting its own multiplayer deathmatch mode, ReVerse, in October.

KitGuru Says: Thankfully, Capcom made the right call and we eventually got a fantastic game out of it. A multiplayer-focused, live-service style Resident Evil might be possible in a spin-off, but that stuff shouldn't be what a mainline Resident Evil game is built around.

We currently exist within a cross-generational period, with many of the newest titles releasing also coming to previous-gen systems. One game which won’t be back-ported to PS4 is the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which according to publisher Square Enix is due to the enhanced SSD speeds of the PS5.

In a recent interview conducted by Japanese site ‘Gamer’ (and translated by Gematsu), Yoshinori Kitase, the producer for the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, discussed the reasons as to why the game would not be coming to PS4 despite the first entry in the FF7 remake trilogy originally releasing on said system. According to Kitase:

“It's exclusive to PlayStation 5 because of the graphical quality, of course, as well as SSD access speed.”

Explaining further, Kitase said “Since the adventure unfolds in a vast world after the escape from Midgar, loading stress is an extreme bottleneck. We felt we needed the specifications of PlayStation 5 to overcome that and travel the world comfortably.”

From what we have seen of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth – as well as what we know from the original 1997 title – the second act of the game is much more open than the midgar section. Considering the fact that the PS4 release of FF7 was already pushing the console to its limits, this next-gen exclusivity makes sense. Hopefully more fans are able to get their hands on PS5s by the time the game releases in Winter 2023.

Almost 25 years after its initial release, Final Fantasy VII is back in the spotlight, with the remake coming out last year to great success, a remaster of the remake on its way soon, and many new experiences still to come. Square Enix has now announced a Final Fantasy VII live stream set to take place next week.

Square Enix has announced that it will host the “Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier Official Live Stream #0” on the 7th of May at 8pm JST (12pm UK time). The livestream will showcase gameplay from and additional information regarding Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier – the mobile battle royale set 30 years before the events of Final Fantasy VII.

That is not all however, as Square Enix has confirmed that fans will also get a second look at Final Fantasy VII: Remake Intergrade, the PS5 release of FFVII Remake, which will also include ‘Episode INTERmission’ – focused on the character Yuffie Kisaragi.

The initial reveal of Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier sparked some confusion from fans of the series, with many fearing that this mobile-focused free-to-play experience may be little more than a cash-grab to jump in on the soon-to-be-saturated battle royale genre. Hopefully this upcoming showcase will provide greater insight into the game, justifying its existence and explaining why it should stand as part of the Final Fantasy VII series.

KitGuru says: What did you think of the initial reveal for Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier? Are you optimistic? Is the battle royale market oversaturated in your opinion? Let us know down below.

Square's recent announcement of a Final Fantasy VII HD remastering might have players pumped for a bit of airship travel once again, but that's not how you'll get about in Final Fantasy XV. In a new trailer for the game shown off at PAX, we saw how players will instead cruise along highways in a sweet looking car, hairmetal hair blowing in the wind.

There's a choice of driving style too, where players can take the wheel themselves if they prefer to be in control of the experience, or sit back and let one of their companion characters take over, giving players the chance to chat to other characters and take in the scenery. It's not an entirely passive experience though, as gamers can stop the car whenever and wherever they want, getting out to view the surroundings or find something to battle.

Another trailer released during the show, gives fans of the series a progress report of sorts on how different aspects of the game are coming together. Everything from attack animations, to companion AI pathfinding are covered. As a Monster Hunter fan, I must admit, I got rather excited to see the player character sever a giant monster's horn.

Final Fantasy XV is set for release sometime in 2016, with a “special event,” and announcement of a final release coming in March.

Are you guys pumped for this one?

Final Fantasy VII is a game near and dear to the hearts of many gamers around the world. For a lot of them, the original PlayStation title was their first real introduction to the Final Fantasy series of games and its story was very well crafted for the time. That's why as much as Square has annoyed many with talk of redoing the combat for the remastering, it should still be a fun ride. For a pretty different experience entirely though, how about re-imagining it at a side scrolling brawler?

This is a fan-made project, so there isn't much in the way of official backing and it's in the very early stages of development, but already it looks pretty polished. Players can side-scroll-slash their way through the first few areas from the original game in one long level, culminating in a boss fight against the robotic scorpion.

barrett

Currently there are two playable characters, Cloud and Tifa, with Barrett acting as a timed fire support – think the police in Streets of Rage – and they can be played individually or cooperatively. They even come with their own Guardian Force to summon, with Ifrit and Shiva making an appearance. Later when the game is complete, we're told that the full roster of customisable summonings will be available.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbpak87YqLQ']

Materia powers up as you go, giving you access to the more powerful attacks in your arsenal, and there's a variety of melee and ranged enemies to deal with, which require their own unique attacks to take down.

Currently the game is free to play in browers (though not Chrome) on the official site. You can also download the standalone executable if you'd rather play offline.

KitGuru Says: I wonder if the new combat system that Square is said to be making for Final Fantasy VII will end up being more like this than the original turn based one.
