We would never condone illegal activities in any shape or form, but The Pirate Bay has become almost an institution. We look into the latest backlash from their followers.

In a revenge attack hacktivists have taken down the Virgin Media website.

Virgin Media was one of the first UK ISP's to remove the Pirate Bay website after last weeks high court ruling to fight piracy. A portion of the user base seemed very unhappy with this and an attack was made on their website, taking it offline.

Anonymous announced the take down on their twitter account with the message “Virgin Media – Tango Down #OpTPB”

A statement by Virgin Media said that the distributed denial of service (DdoS) attack lasted for one hour. They then went on to exonerate themselves from blame by saying “As a responsible ISP, Virgin Media complies with court orders but we strongly believe that tackling the issue of copyright infringement needs compelling legal alternatives, giving consumers access to great content at the right price, to help change consumer behaviour.”

Sky, Everything Everywhere, Talk Talk and O2 have all been ordered to prevent its users from accessing The Pirate Bay by this Friday. BT, one of the UK’s biggest ISP's has asked for an extension to “consider its position”. They are clearly concerned about the ramifications.
