Although you might understand American TV network AMC's annoyance at someone leaking potential spoilers for The Walking Dead before they have aired, how do you feel about it using copyright law to hit them with legal action? That's exactly what's happening.

The Spoiling Dead Fans is a community of Walking Dead fans who are interested in following the latest news and trends from the show. As you might expect from their name, they aren't above trying to find out the most secretive information to get the drop on what's going to happen to their favourite characters.

That includes finding out who died in the last episode of the latest season when Negan decided to crack their skull open with his favourite barbed wire baseball bat.

While there's no guarantee that the spoiler group figured it out, there was a suggestion recently that they had. AMC it seems is quite keen to avoid the group revealing the results of its research, so it's sent a threatening legal letter to The Spoiling Dead, demanding that it not release that information.

“After two years, AMC finally reached out to us! But it wasn’t a request not to post any info about the Lucille Victim or any type of friendly attempt at compromise, it was a cease and desist and a threat of a lawsuit by AMC Holdings, LLC’s attorney, Dennis Wilson. They say we can’t make any type of prediction about the Lucille Victim,” the group said (via TorrentFreak).

lucille

This is the only version of Negan I keep up with these days

The letter stipulates that in order to have learned who Negan killed, the group must have gotten its hands on ‘copyright protected' information. While that sounds very unlikely to hold water in a court room, AMC is aware that The Spoiling Dead isn't an organisation with the legal funds or time to be able to dedicate to its defence, so ultimately the group has bowed out.

“After consultation with our legal counsel, we have responded to AMC that the TSDF staff will not be posting our prediction on who gets Lucilled on any of our outlets,” it said.

As the group pointed out though, there are many other individuals and organisations that would be interested in knowing the victim of Lucille's attack, so the name may end up being leaked anyway – especially now that AMC has drawn so much attention to it.

KitGuru Says: Although the big stink AMC is making about this would suggest that the victim isn't the same as the comics, it's crazy to think of it taking legal action over what could potentially be a discussion of the same event in another medium.

Oxenfree is a soon-to-be-released, narrative-driven adventure game from several ex-Telltale and Disney developers, about teenagers on a deserted island. It may sound a little cliché but something about it certainly caught Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman's attention, as when he learned about where the story goes, he wanted to get involved somehow; now he's making a web series to go with it.

oxenfree

As you might expect from developers with a Telltale pedigree, Oxenfree is a game without triggers, levels or cutscenes. Characters walk, talk and interact within the same world. There's a chat interface, with a Telltale-like feel, but it will be optional (as per PCG), so if you like you can just allow a lot of the story to flow around you, rather than being its driving force.

As the developers say, this is a coming of age tale, where you get to choose how you come of age. That might be quietly.

Although this all sounds rather passive for a videogame, it clearly got the attention of Kirkman, who has now leveraged his own firm, Skybound, to document the production of the game and to make a web series exploring parts of its story further.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzLM-1XN6_0′]

“As soon as we got our hands on Oxenfree and experienced this unique narrative driven game we knew that the IP had huge potential and that the Skybound team needed to be a part of it,” Kirkman said.

The first episode of Skybound's coverage of the game's creation is out now, and Oxenfree itself is set to release on 15th January.

KitGuru Says: Explorative, surprising, deceptive games are always a treat, as you don't really know what you're getting into; much like the characters. I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

If you were thinking that of all the titles out there at the moment, the one thing missing was another zombie shooter, then you and the maker of Payday, Overkill Software, have something in common, as it's working on just that. Based on the Walking Dead universe, Overkill's co-op, FPS is set for release sometime in 2016 and will be published by 505 Games.

overkill

The game has been described as one that explores new characters and settings within the Walking Dead universe, potentially dipping into characters like Negan, as his long time lover, Lucille the baseball bat, was given away as free DLC for Payday 2 when the game was announced last year.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mn9cp_IMXhI']

Although details on gameplay are quite thin on the ground at the moment, earlier this year, Walking Dead comic creator and writer Robert Kirkman said that it was “Payday-esque.” He then went on to say: “But I’m told it will be in a bigger world than Payday currently encompasses. They are going to be learning a lot of stuff from Payday that they will be incorporating into the Walking Dead game. There will be announcements about the game very soon.”

Overkill's parent company, Starbreeze, has worked together with 505 Games before, to publish the second Payday game, so there's a history of cooperation between the different firms. It's hoped by Starbreeze that by signing on its next game with 505, that it can focus on developing the game, whilst its new publisher will “streamline the distribution and marketing of the title,” according to Bo Andersson, CEO of Starbreeze.

Walking Dead Overkill is set for release sometime in 2016 on the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Telltale games has been working on point and click adventures for some time now, expanding some of the most well beloved universes of games, movies and TV. But it took things to a new level when it made the Walking Dead episodic series. It felt like a whole new kind of conversational simulator, rather than the classic combining items + snappy dialogue that many adventure games are built around. That's what Tales from the Borderlands is all about too, as well as bringing in a little bit of gunplay and loot generation to the table, and it's available to buy now.

You won't be able to play it until a little later today, but when you do, you'll step into the shoes of con-artist Fiona and data-miner Rhys, both of whom have a part to play in the future of the Borderlands, which at the time of the game, is still reeling from the death of Handsome Jack, orchestrated by those that played through Borderlands 2.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOPmNBM3Yew']

Fiona and Rhys will meet up at the “end,” of the game and will look back over their times together and apart, to tell the story in reverse.

Hey look, they made a pre-laser surgery me

Tales from the Borderlands is a Gearbox, Telltale and 2K Games co-development project, which will be available later today on PC, PS4 and PS3. The Xbox One release takes place tomorrow, with an Xbox 360 debut in early December. A PS Vita version is slated for release sometime before the end of the year.

This isn't the only game Telltale is working on at the moment though. A look into the world of a Song of Ice and Fire, called Game of Thrones, is also coming in December to all major platforms.

KitGuru Says: I'm a little more excited by the Game of Thrones game personally, but Tales from the Borderlands looks to capture the humour of Pandora without as much loot grubbing. I'm down for that.

Starbreeze, Overkill's parent company will be the acting publisher of the game, which is said to contain elements of action, role-playing, survival-horror and stealth. There's not much more information about the game as of yet, but it's appeared on Steam so will eventually have a PC release, though it won't be available until 2016. However once released, it will be continually supported with paid for and free content updates, with a strong focus on cooperative play.

We do have a trailer though and for all it doesn't show, it's pretty brutal.

“For Starbreeze Studios this is a major strategic move, taking on an independent brand and treating it as our own. We have great experience from thePAYDAY series that can be utilized in bringingThe Walking Dead to first-person shooter gamers everywhere.” says Bo Andersson Klint, CEO, Starbreeze AB.

While Andersson did say that Kirkman had been happy to hand over creative control of the game to Overkill, he would be closely involved in the project and that the community would be involved in development as it went on.

To commemorate the new game's announcement, Payday 2 is getting a spiked bat, which anyone who's reached the Negan era in the comic series will know all too well.

KitGuru Says: I feel like a hypocrite saying I'm interested in this, considering I spent much of Dying Light's announcement bemoaning yet another zombie game, but Walking Dead was my first love when it came to comics, it's the only series I've stuck with for years. Any expansion on that universe is an exciting one for me.

If like me, you consider the first Walking Dead game from Telltale an emotional rollercoaster of a title, then you'll no doubt be as excited as I am for the second Season. Fortunately the wait isn't long at all, as Telltale has now teased a big reveal for the 29th October. That's tomorrow.

Set to land at 3PM Eastern (8PM GMT), it's not clear what the unveil will be, but presumably we're looking at a first episode launch, or at the very least an announcement for the upcoming release schedule. Admittedly the latter of the two there would be quite a drop off from the first, but considering Telltale has previously slated the sequel series for a Q4 2013 release, even it it is an announcement for another announcement, it won't be long before the full game lands.

Anyone familiar with the first season will recognise that cap as Clementine's, suggesting she'll be making a return – though the blood smatter might be cause for concern.

This was announced on the Telltale Twitter, along with the reminder of some great advice Clem received in the first season: “keep that hair short.”

KitGuru Says: What did you guys think of the first season of the Walking Dead? It was perhaps my favourite game of the year – even if I did play a lot of Mount and Blade Warband in 2012.

If you're a fan of the Walking Dead point and click, conversational adventure title from Telltale Games, tonight you might want to tune in to Twitch TV to see the voice actors behind Lee and Clementine playing through the final episode of the game.

*POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD*

Considering from my personal gaming experience, the finale of Season one could be the most emotional gaming experience I've ever had, seeing what the two main characters from the game think of the final product and to hear their insights on what it was like to take part in creating those key moments in the story, could be very interesting.

To put a name to a voice, Lee was voiced by Dave Fennoy who's done lots of video game work in the past, including Starcraft II and all these characters from DotA 2: Faceless Void/Skeleton King / Venomancer / Batrider / Huskar / Jakiro. Melissa Hutchison, the voice of Clementine has similarly done a lot of other similar work. You'll know her as Trixie Trotter in the Back to the Future Telltale game and Ashe in League of Legends.

During the streaming, there will be exclusive Walking Dead merchandise given out and questions answered. It all goes down at 8PM GMT (12PM PT/ 3PM ET). You can watch it here via Eurogamer.

Did you play my game of the year 2012, The Walking Dead? If not, now's your chance to get it at a steal. The Humble Weekly sale is up and this one's offering a large collection of Telltale's back catalog, for just a few dollars.

So what's available in this end of week bundle? Paying whatever you like will net you: Back to the Future: The Game, a point and click episodic series based around the adventures of Marty Mcfly and his pal, the Doc; Sam and Max: Devil's Playhouse, the third season of those characters' point and click adventures and
Poker Night
at the Inventory, which sees Tycho (of Penny Arcade fame), Max, Team Fortress 2's heavy and Strongbad. Other inclusions are Hector: Badge of Carnage, Puzzle Agent 1 & 2 and Wallace and Gromit's Grand Adventure.

Save for the last of that lot, all games are Linux and Windows compatible, DRM free and on a pay what you want model. However, if you were thinking of being cheap, you'll need to beat the average (currently a pathetic $4.17) in order to unlock all five episodes of the Walking Dead point and click/conversational adventure title.

Of course all purchases also support charity, so don't be a skinflint.

KitGuru Says: Currently the Windows user average is only just above $4. Come on guys, these games are worth at least $10, no?

If you've read a few of my articles over at the games portion of Kitguru, you'll know I'm a big fan of Telltale's Walking Dead game. In-fact, I made it my game of the year 2012 because at the end it made me cry. For anyone else as emotionally invested in the series of episodes, you'll be pleased to know that Season two is coming this Autumn – a year sooner than many expected.

“The current estimated release window for Season Two of The Walking Dead is for fall of this year (2013), and not next year (2014) as has been reported after a recent interview,” said a Telltale spokesperson to GameInformer last night. “We apologise for any confusion and thank you and all of our fans for your continued excitement for Telltale's series.”

Walking Dead
Clementine's adventures have taken her a long way, where will they go next?

It was initially thought that the second season wouldn't arrive until the same time in 2014, leaving gamers feeling saddened that it would be that long until they could see how the story progressed.

Still, we won't even have to wait until Autumn to get a taste of Walking Dead adventure action, as we learned last week that there will be something to bridge the gap between the two seasons. Though what that will be, remains to be seen.

KitGuru Says: I'm certainly looking forward to see where the story goes. Since it follows the comics closely, it'll be interesting to see how they intertwine the game and the print medium's stories.
