Back when The Burning Crusade was coming to WoW Classic, an early web advertisement leaked the release date. A similar situation has now taken place with Wrath of the Lich King, which appears set for a September launch.

The World of Warcraft teams are very busy this year. Not only are we getting the next major WoW expansion, Dragonflight, over the holiday season, but WoW Classic fans are also getting the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. As reported by WoWHead, an image uploaded to the WoW Classic website yesterday showed the words “the Lich King returns September 26 2022”.

The image was later removed from the website due to the fact that it was not supposed to be public yet. Given the leak, we can expect an official announcement from Blizzard very soon to confirm the release date.

When looking back at the ‘golden age' of WoW, many fans have different answers. Some prefer the base, vanilla game, others made their memories during The Burning Crusade and for another good chunk of players, Wrath of the Lich King was the best expansion. With WoW Classic now covering all three of those time periods, we might see Blizzard take a break from Classic expansions for quite some time.

KitGuru Says: After Wrath of the Lich King, do you think we'll see anymore ‘classic' expansions for WoW? Do you think Blizzard should have gone down the road of re-releasing expansions in the first place?

Blizzard has been supporting WoW Classic for a few years now, offering players a way to go back and experience the game as it was many years ago. Last year, The Burning Crusade expansion came to WoW Classic, opening up the possibility that we'll see other expansions too in the future. Now, it appears that Blizzard is indeed working on bringing back Wrath of the Lich King.

A new survey has been sent out to a number of World of Warcraft subscribers, directly asking for opinions on “Wrath of the Lich King Classic” and its potential pricing tiers. It seems Blizzard is planning a base version of the expansion with a level boost, pet, 1-month sub time, a mount and a character transfer.

The more expensive bundle would feature additional boosts and a collectible toy for the physical version. Blizzard has not yet announced Wrath of the Lich King Classic, but given that The Burning Crusade arrived last year, we should expect new WoW Classic content in the years ahead.

While we may not see an official WoW Classic announcement in the immediate future, Blizzard is gearing up to reveal the next major WoW expansion. Leaks point to WoW: Dragonflight being revealed late next week.

KitGuru Says: WoW Classic started off as a simple offering, delivering vanilla WoW to those that really wanted to revisit the glory days. Now that we're moving on to expansions, it is getting somewhat complicated.

World of Warcraft Classic is going through some changes this year, with Blizzard launching new servers for The Burning Crusade expansion. There is currently an on-going beta for this but a release date has not been announced – although a Battle.net update may have leaked it.

A number of players spotted a new notice on Battle.net this week, stating that World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Classic will be launching on the 1st of June. The image was later removed from the app, although screenshots were taken and shared by WoWhead.

Blizzard has previously announced plans to launch The Burning Crusade for WoW Classic ‘this summer', but this is the first time we've seen a specific release date publicised.

Currently, the expansion is in beta, so plans could change based on feedback and testing. Blizzard has not commented on the leak yet.

World of Warcraft Classic is officially launching today, giving long-time fans a chance to relive the glory days of the MMO while also giving newer players a chance to experience what things used to be like. The beta stress tests for WoW Classic seemingly went down well but as usual, Blizzard is anticipating long queues for servers at launch. To help ease the load, four additional realms are being added to try and alleviate wait times.

WoW Classic servers will go live at 3PM PDT, or 11PM here in the UK. The launch will not only open the flood gates for vanilla WoW fans to jump in and play, but the three-character limit is also being removed, so you will be able to create up to 10 characters per Classic realm on your account.

The new servers being added for the US include Incendius (PvP), Bigglesworth (PvP), Old Blanchy (normal) and Westfall (normal). Those looking to play on realms with a full or high population tag are being encouraged to try and play on one of the newly added realms, as peak servers are expected to have waiting queues up to several hours long.

Depending on player demand, we could also see additional servers/realms added to EU and other regions. For now though, it is mainly the US that is getting a last minute boost.

KitGuru Says: WoW Classic launching today had slipped my mind but from the sounds of it, demand is quite high. Are any of you planning on trying to play tonight when the servers go live? Or will you be waiting a few days in case of server issues?

Back in April 2016, Blizzard shut down Nostalrius, one of the most popular vanilla WoW private servers around. This kicked off a lengthy discussion for Blizzard, with the studio ultimately announcing plans to launch WoW Classic. That announcement came in late 2017. It wasn't until Blizzcon 2018 that we saw the game again, with ticket holders getting access to a very limited demo. Now this week, Blizzard has announced that its official recreation of Vanilla WoW is launching in August.

World of Warcraft Classic arrives on the 26th of August this year, with servers opening up to fans at 3PM PT, or 11PM BST for those of us in the UK. If you are currently a WoW subscriber, you will get the chance to play Classic a bit early, as invites are being sent out for a small-scale closed beta.

The beta for WoW Classic is kicking off today, so players will begin receiving invites. This will give Blizzard a chance to check for any major bugs. Leading up to the end of July, some server stress tests will also be taking place, which will invite more players to take part in the beta for a limited time to ensure the servers can withstand the load. Level caps will be in place for these stress tests though, so you won't be levelling from 1-60 before Classic launches.

The first server stress test will be taking place on the 22nd and 23rd of May. A second stress test will take place on the 19th and 20th of June, with a final stress test coming on the 18th and 19th of July. On the 13th of August, players will be allowed to reserve character names, which is a nice gesture for long-time fans that may want to revive an old character from the vanilla days. Character name reservations are limited though, allowing for up to three per WoW account.

KitGuru Says: WoW Classic is finally launching and will no doubt be a huge success for Blizzard this year. Are many of you planning to play this when it comes out?

Back in April 2016, Blizzard shut down Nostalrius, one of the most popular vanilla WoW private servers around. This kicked off a lengthy discussion for Blizzard, with the studio ultimately announcing plans to launch WoW Classic. That announcement came in late 2017 and now this year, people will finally have the chance to try it out, although only for a short amount of time.

Last month, Blizzard announced that anyone who picks up a virtual ticket to Blizzcon this year will get access to the WoW Classic Demo, which will also be playable at the event itself for those attending in person. As the name suggests, this will take players back in time to the vanilla version of World of Warcraft.

We already knew that the demo would come with a limited amount of content. However, more of those restrictions have now come to light. Those looking to jump in will only be able to play for one hour at a time. You can play again later but you'll need to wait for a 90-minute cooldown timer to run out.

The playtime restriction system is flexible though. If you only play for 30 minutes and then take a one hour break, your time will reset to a full 60 minutes. Blizzard is doing this to help manage demand for the demo, ensuring that everyone gets a chance to try it.

There is still no word on when WoW Classic will officially release but hopefully we'll learn more about that over the weekend as Blizzcon gets underway.

KitGuru Says: There was a lot of excitement surrounding last year's WoW Classic announcement. The playtime restriction won't please everyone but its a good way to make sure everyone gets a fair chance to at least play some of it over the weekend without the servers crashing. Are any of you planning on trying the WoW Classic demo this weekend?

Back in April 2016, Blizzard shut down Nostalrius, one of the most popular vanilla WoW private servers around. This kicked off a lengthy discussion for Blizzard, with the studio ultimately announcing plans to launch WoW Classic. That announcement came in late 2017 and things have been quiet ever since- until today. Today Blizzard announced plans for a WoW Classic Demo, which will be tied in with Blizzcon this year.

Anyone who picks up a virtual ticket to Blizzcon this year will get access to the WoW Classic Demo, which will also be playable at the event itself for those attending in person. Players will be able to jump back in to vanilla World of Warcraft in an official capacity.

The demo will come with access to a limited amount of quests in the early-level zones for both the Horde and Alliance. The demo will go live on the 2nd of November and will be playable until the 8th.

While WoW Classic will be the big draw for many looking to pick up a Blizzcon virtual ticket this year, there will also be a few other goodies thrown in. You'll get access to in-game items for most of Blizzard's games, including Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, Diablo III and StarCraft II.

KitGuru Says: Given how much excitement there was surrounding the WoW Classic announcement, I imagine a lot of people will be after a Blizzcon virtual ticket this year. There is still no word on a launch date for the full classic experience but hopefully we'll hear a bit more when Blizzcon gets underway in November.
