Hunt: Showdown is a co-op focused PvPvE shooter from the team at Crytek – responsible for the CryEngine. Two years ago the game received a basic update to boost PS5 and Xbox Series X performance to 60fps. Now however, the team have announced that Hunt: Showdown will be getting an engine upgrade alongside native current-gen console ports – unfortunately at the expense of last-gen players.

The team at Crytek released a new episode in its ‘developer insight’ series, where they revealed the roadmap for Hunt: Showdown stretching to the first half of 2024. This period is set to bring with it a great deal of changes to the game, but in particular an upgrade to the CryEngine.

This update will see both console and PC players benefit from improvements upon its release, with current-gen console owners in particular seeing massive upgrades thanks to the announcement of native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S ports for Hunt: Showdown.

Unfortunately, as we have seen with the likes of Cyberpunk 2077, this update will see last-gen players left behind, as PS4 and Xbox One support will officially end in April of next year – meaning the multiplayer-focused title will no longer be playable.

That said, the current-gen upgrade will be free to all and will see your account carried over, meaning progress will not be lost. Finally, the update will also be accompanied by the addition of a 4th map which will take place in an entirely new biome.

With Hunt: Showdown officially into its 5th year on the market, it is exciting to see that the team at Crytek are putting more resources into the game’s backend systems, ultimately extending its lifecycle by quite a great deal. Hopefully the PS5 and Series X|S ports end up being comprehensive.

Discord has been hard at work on its console integration over the last year. Xbox gamers have had access to Discord voice chat for a while and now, users will even be able to stream games in Discord channels right from their console.

If you are using an Xbox Series X/S or an Xbox One, the latest update to Discord on Xbox allows users to stream the game their playing directly in Discord servers or private DM calls. There will be a period of public testing to start with, available to all Xbox Insider members. In a few months time, we should see this feature roll out to all users.

You'll be bound to the same resolution and framerate limitations that you see on desktop. Free Discord users can stream at 720p/30FPS while Discord Nitro subscribers can get access to 1080p and 60FPS streaming.

For now, Discord game streaming on console is only available on Xbox but we should see similar integration on PlayStation a little later down the line.

One of the biggest games of the year so far has been Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Developed exclusively for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, publisher EA has now revealed that they are planning to bring the title to last-gen systems.

As reported by industry analyst Benji-Sales, during EA’s most recent earnings call the publisher revealed that Respawn Entertainment is currently working on bringing the current-gen exclusive Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

This announcement comes as a surprise, especially due to the fact that Jedi Survivor on the PS5 and Series X|S struggled with a number of performance woes at launch. It is hard to imagine what compromises will be required to get the game to run on these now almost decade-old consoles.

All that said, it is encouraging at least to see that Respawn were given the time needed to focus on the current-gen systems, only opting to work on backporting the game to the PS4 and Xbox One long after its initial release.

It will be interesting to see how long the game takes to find its way to these older systems – and just how well it will look/perform.

Years ago Microsoft announced that they would stop reporting on Xbox console sales, instead focusing on highlighting total Xbox Live and Game Pass subscribers. As such, it comes as a big surprise that Microsoft have officially released the sales figures for both the Xbox One as well as the Series X|S.

As part of an ID@Xbox presentation during the BIG Festival in Brazil, Microsoft took to the stage and announced officially that since its launch in late 2020 the Xbox Series X|S have sold a combined total of 21 million consoles.

Even more interesting perhaps is the fact that we now know just how many consoles Microsoft pushed last generation, with the company revealing the Xbox One family to have sold 58 million units during its lifetime.

For comparison’s sake, as of the end of March, Sony had sold 38.4 million PS5 units, with the company projected to sell 25 million more during this Fiscal year alone. Of course, it was well known that the PS4 far outsold the Xbox One, but it is interesting to see just how much – having pushed more than double the units with 117.2 million.

Though the reveal of these figures was most likely a mistake, it is welcoming to see Microsoft being more transparent. It will be interesting to see whether Phil Spencer addresses this announcement.

In the wake of the Xbox Games Showcase, Xbox Game Studios chief Matt Booty took part in an interview where all manner of topics were discussed – from Redfall to Halo to Activision Blizzard and more. One of the more interesting tidbits from the interview saw Booty confirm that Microsoft are no longer developing any games for the last-gen Xbox One.

In an interview conducted by Stephen Totilo and published to Axios Gaming, Microsoft’s game studio chief Matt Booty was asked about the team’s planned support for the Xbox One family of devices. According to Booty, the team at Microsoft have now “moved on to Gen 9” meaning that no games are actively being developed for the Xbox One family of devices – other than the continuing support for live games such as Minecraft of course.

Leading into this generation, Microsoft touted its emphasis on cross-generational gaming and ensuring that all of its Xbox games are as accessible as possible. With no more native cross-gen games being made, Booty made sure to point out that Xbox One owners can technically play all of the future current-gen exclusive games via Xbox’s cloud services through Game Pass Ultimate, saying “That's how we're going to maintain support.”

Until now, Microsoft has released most of its new games on Xbox One, with the two main exceptions being 2021’s Microsoft Flight Simulator and the recently released Redfall. It is welcome to know that from this point forth all Microsoft games should be developed only with current-gen hardware in mind (though of course the Series S must remain a consideration still).

Back in February just two weeks after the game's launch, WB announced that the game had sold 12 million copies so far. Now, just as the game is launching for Xbox One and PS4, the game has surpassed 15 million copies sold to date.

Hogwarts Legacy is WB's “biggest launch ever”, shipping 12 million copies in the two weeks since launch for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5. Now a few months later, the game has surpassed 15 million copies sold. The game is now becoming available on Xbox One and PS4 consoles, meaning more gamers will be able to pick up the game and play.

Hogwarts Legacy should get another boost later in the year, as the game is still due to release on the Nintendo Switch. Even with its limited platform availability, the game has generated more than $1 billion in sales worldwide, which is an impressive feat.

Currently, there are ‘no plans' for Hogwarts Legacy DLC, but that could change now that the game is available on more platforms. Early indications show that the game is running fairly well on last-gen systems too.

Hogwarts Legacy is already a success on PC and the latest-gen consoles. However, there's still a huge market of players still waiting to get their hands on the game on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The Xbox One and PS4 versions were supposed to arrive in April, but the team needs a bit more time to get the game ready.

Originally scheduled to release in April, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Hogwarts Legacy have been delayed a month, pushing the release date to May 5th. The development team is currently “working hard to deliver the best possible experience on all platforms”, and as such, they need more development time to complete their mission.

Despite the delay for Xbox One and PS4 owners, Hogwarts Legacy should still release for Nintendo Switch on July 25th. As of now, we haven't heard about any possible delays on this version of the game.

Hogwarts Legacy was released on February 10th for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, garnering an 84 Opencritic score (89% recommendation). Based on the latest sales figure, Hogwarts Legacy has sold over 12 million copies in its first two weeks, generating around $850 million in revenue.

Valheim launched in Early Access on the 2nd of February 2021 to almost immediate success, selling 2 million copies in under two weeks and going on to surpass 10 million copies by July of last year. Following its success on PC, the sandbox survival game is soon set to come to Xbox and console Game Pass in under a month.

Announced during IGN’s 2023 Fan Fest, developer Iron Gate Studio and publisher Coffee Stain revealed that following two years on the PC platform, Valheim is set to finally come to Xbox on the 14th of March 2023.

It seems as though Valheim will continue to operate under the Early Access banner even once it has been released on Xbox. That said, in the two years since its initial launch Valheim has been updated with a decent amount of new content.

September 2021 saw the game’s first major content update in the form of “Hearth & Home” adding general improvements to the game while also introducing new items and more. After a very lengthy wait, we finally received the “Mistlands” update in December 2022, bringing with it a whole host of new content, enemies, bosses, NPCs and so much more.

While it may be a few years past the game’s zeitgeist, Valheim is still a huge title and with the most recent Mistlands update is better than ever. Xbox users of all recent generations will be able to enjoy Valheim when it launches via Game Preview on Xbox One and Xbox Series as well as console Game Pass on the 14th of March.

In late 2022, Microsoft began working on a new power saving mode for Xbox consoles, allowing for “carbon aware” game downloads and updates. The new power saving mode has been tested in the Xbox Insider program for a while and today, it is rolling out to all users.

This month's Xbox OS update brings a new energy mode, allowing users to enable scheduled game, app and OS updates during a nightly maintenance window. Microsoft uses regional carbon intensity data to schedule these updates, meaning while updating during this window, a higher proportion of electricity will be coming from lower-carbon sources on the electrical grid. In the long run, this should lower the carbon footprint and possibly your electricity bill.

The announcement goes on to say: “You can choose what works best for you and adjust your settings at any time. Shutdown (energy saving) cuts power use by up to 20x when it’s off compared to the Sleep power option. For every two consoles that switch to Shutdown (energy saving) for one year, we will save the equivalent amount of carbon removed by one tree planted and grown for a decade.”

There are a few other additions in this update. For starters, Microsoft there's new Part and Chat features, allowing you to see a list of previous parties and quickly rejoin and reinvite people. The Xbox now works with the Google Home app, allowing you to use your phone as a remote. Finally, you can also now hide game art when selecting tiles on the Home screen.

KitGuru Says: This seems like a good middle-ground option between the standard sleep mode and a full shutdown.

Microsoft is currently in the process of having its massive acquisition of Activision Blizzard approved by governments across the world. While most countries don't publicly publish documents involved in these investigations, things work a bit differently in Brazil, which has given us an excellent look behind the curtain. The latest documents reveal just how much the PS4 outsold the Xbox One last generation.

In its official opinion on the acquisition, Sony shared several concerns, noting that Call of Duty is a powerful IP for a console platform to own, and adding that Microsoft's games subscription business is rapidly dominating the market. Microsoft responded to this by pointing out that Sony itself has paid to keep games off of Xbox Game Pass in the past.

In addition to this, another document shows Microsoft arguing its position in the wider gaming market. As reported by GameLuster, one of the documents includes Microsoft's console sales estimates, showing that the PlayStation 4 ultimately outsold the Xbox One 2:1 over the last generation.

The documentation also confirms something we've known for a long time – the future of Xbox is Game Pass. Microsoft has moved on from focusing on device sales and is now looking to compete in the market through services, like Game Pass. Meanwhile, Sony is still very focused on hardware sales. The implication here seems to be that both companies are competing in different ways, and so Microsoft doesn't believe Game Pass growth will hurt PlayStation sales.

Xbox Game Pass got off to a good start this month with the return of the Yakuza series, as well as a number of promising indie titles. We've now crossed the halfway point of the month, and now, the next batch of titles for Game Pass have been revealed.

Ubisoft is continuing to add to the Game Pass library with the addition of Watch Dogs 2. While Watch Dogs 2 is the best game in the series, the Xbox version leaves something to be desired. The game was never updated for the Xbox One X, so the Xbox version still runs at 900p resolution. On Series X/S consoles, you can switch on FPS boost to get the game running at 60FPS, but without a resolution increase, the game doesn't look great, especially compared to the PS4 Pro version, which did run at settings more suited for modern 4K TVs. Perhaps the extra attention from the game joining Game Pass will force Ubisoft to do something about this.

Here's the full list of titles heading to Xbox Game Pass over the next two weeks, including supported platforms and dates:

  • Garden Story (Cloud, Console, and PC) ID@Xbox – Available now
  • Solasta: Crown of the Magister (Cloud and Console) ID@Xbox – Available now
  • As Dusk Falls (Cloud, Console, and PC) – July 19
  • Watch Dogs 2 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – July 19
  • Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion (PC) ID@Xbox – July 21
  • MotoGP 22 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – July 21
  • Torment: Tides of Numenera (Cloud and Console) – July 21
  • Inside (Cloud, Console, and PC) ID@Xbox – July 29

As usual, there are some games cycling out of Game Pass this month. On July 31st, five titles will leave the service, including:

  • Dodgeball Academia
  • Katamari Damacy Reroll
  • Lumines Remastered
  • Omno
  • Raji: An Ancient Epic

As always, there will be another update with more games coming to Game Pass at the start of next month.

While there have been some delays along the way, Rockstar still plans to deliver Grand Theft Auto V for the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 consoles soon. The new version is now less than two weeks away, and will offer up to 60FPS performance on the console versions of the game for the first time.

In a blog post today, Rockstar confirmed that Grand Theft Auto V will come to Xbox Series X/S and PS5 consoles on the 15th of March. The game will feature multiple performance modes to select from targeting different resolutions and frame rates. Improvements will include the same visual settings as a “high-end PC”, including better textures, HDR options, ray tracing and support for platform-specific features, such as DualSense and 3D Audio on PS5. Users will also be able to choose between a 30FPS “quality” mode and a 60FPS “performance” mode.

The launch of GTA V on next-gen will also bring along a new standalone version of GTA Online for the PS5 and Xbox consoles. Thanks to a deal with Sony, GTA Online will be available to PS5 owners for free from March until June. Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online still have years of life ahead, as the sequel, Grand Theft Auto VI, is still some ways off. It is in active development, however, which Rockstar confirmed publicly for the first time.

Those who already have GTA V for Xbox One or PS4 will be able to transfer their story and online progress to the next-gen version. This is a one-time migration and will allow you to go to either console, so if you have a PS4 save file and recently switched to an Xbox Series X, you'll be able to keep your progress. Migration is handled through the Rockstar Social Club – you can find full instructions on save migration, HERE.

KitGuru Says: GTA V is nearly a decade old and will have soon made the transition across three console generations. Considering what Rockstar was able to build on an Xbox 360 back in 2013, we should all be very excited to see what they can do with modern hardware for the next Grand Theft Auto.

Microsoft went through a lot of changes during the Xbox One generation, from leadership shakeups, to platform overhauls and major acquisitions. While the Xbox One launched with Twitch integration, allowing users to stream straight from their console dashboard, those features were removed and replaced by Mixer integration in 2017. Now, Twitch integration is returning to the Xbox dashboard.

At launch, being able to stream directly to services like Twitch from a console was a big marketing point for the Xbox One. Microsoft eventually acquired a streaming service of its own – Mixer, which went on to get full dashboard integration on Xbox One. You could still stream to Twitch from an Xbox One console, but you would have to set it all up from within the Twitch app, as dashboard integration was swapped out in favour of Mixer.

Mixer has since shut down, with Facebook Gaming picking up the remnants of the service. Now, in an effort to make game streaming easier on Xbox consoles, Twitch integration is returning to the Xbox dashboard. The feature began testing in October 2021, and is now rolling out on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One consoles officially.

After the update, Xbox users will be available to link their Twitch account to the console. Then, you'll be able to head to the ‘Capture and Share' tab on the Xbox dashboard and immediately begin a stream and adjust your stream options, like resolution, bit-rate, a stream overlay, audio mix etc. You'll also be able to add a facecam with ease, as the Xbox console supports most USB webcams.

KitGuru Says: I really liked the initial Twitch integration and snap features that launched with Xbox One. Now, we seem to be getting at least some of that functionality back, which is particularly necessary now that Microsoft no longer has Mixer under its wing.

For several months now we've been hearing rumours about a Chrono Cross remaster. The game was initially expected to be announced at The Game Awards in December but ultimately ended up being a no-show. Now just a couple of months later, the game has been made official, with Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition being announced for Switch, PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

Chrono Cross released back in the 90s and is regarded as a JRPG classic. The story follows Serge, a teenager journeying through the archipelago of El Nido, searching for answers about its world.

The remastered version will be called Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition and will come with new art from character designer Nobuteru Yuuki and a remastered OST from Yasunori Mitsuda, the composer behind the game's original music. In addition, it will include the text-based adventure game released for Satellaview in 1996 named “Radical Dreamers  – Le Trésor Interdit”, which works as a prequel to the main game.

Like most remasters, players will have more languages available, improved models, and the option to play with older or updated graphics. Other additions include the ability to switch enemy encounters on or off, background filter, battle enhancement features, auto-battle, and the choice between pixel or HD fonts.

Chrono Cross:  The Radical Dreamers Edition will be available on April 7th for Switch, Steam, PS4 and Xbox One. To commemorate its launch, Square Enix is also offering fans the chance to get the Chrono Cross -Scars of Time music box, available for €17.99 at the Square Enix Online Store.

While Sony has reportedly delayed discontinuing the PlayStation 4 to compensate for the lack of PlayStation 5 consoles, it turns out that Microsoft discontinued its previous-gen consoles in late 2020, soon after the Series X|S launch.

That's according to The Verge, who had a word with Cindy Walker, senior director of Xbox console product marketing. In a statement, Walker confirmed that “to focus on production of Xbox Series X / S, [Microsoft] stopped production for all Xbox One consoles by the end of 2020”.

We already knew that the Xbox One X and S digital edition had been discontinued in mid-2020, but there was no word regarding the standard Xbox One S. Now, we know the console was discontinued soon after the launch of the Series X|S, in late 2020.

Despite Microsoft discontinuing the previous-gen consoles, it is not quite the same situation that Sony is in. The PlayStation 5 is the Japanese company's only next-gen console, but Microsoft obviously has Series models. So while Xbox Series X and the PS5 tend to be hard to find, the Series S isn't, so Microsoft's discontinuation of the One S appears justified.

Back in October, Microsoft officially upgraded its xCloud servers from Xbox One S hardware to Xbox Series X hardware, enabling next-gen console game streaming to mobile and PC. Now, you can also access Xbox Cloud Gaming on consoles, allowing Xbox One owners to play Xbox Series X/S titles and enjoy the graphical and performance benefits of the newer hardware.

This week, Microsoft made Xbox Cloud Gaming available on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One consoles. For Xbox Series X/S owners, the main benefit here is being able to jump straight into a new game without waiting for it to download and install.

On the Xbox One side of things, the benefits are much greater, as the ageing console can still be used to play newer titles or next-gen versions of last-gen games with higher graphical details and frame rates. Games like The Medium and Microsoft Flight Simulator are not available on Xbox One, but you can stream them with a Game Pass subscription.

All progress made in games via Xbox Cloud Gaming will carry over to the native versions of those games too, and your saves will carry over if you do upgrade from an Xbox One to an Xbox Series X/S console. In the future, Microsoft will expand the number of devices that Xbox Cloud Gaming is available on, with plans to support Smart TVs and other devices.

Currently, Xbox Cloud Gaming is available as part of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, with support for web browsers, Android phones, PC and Xbox consoles.

KitGuru Says: It'll be interesting to see if xCloud ends up keeping Xbox One owners from cancelling their Game Pass subscriptions while waiting to upgrade. As more games go next-gen only, the incentive to subscribe on a last-gen console begins to erode, but streaming could give the Xbox One a longer life span than expected.

It has been a couple of years since EA first announced Dragon Age 4 and at this point, all indications point to the game still being a couple of years away from release. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise to learn that BioWare will be dropping Xbox One and PS4 with this game, instead focusing on newer consoles and PC.

According to information gathered by VentureBeat, Dragon Age 4 will be BioWare's first ‘next-gen' game, targeting Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC. With the game reportedly on track to launch some time in 2023, this may be the year where EA begins to scale back its cross-gen console releases.

Since the launch of the Xbox Series X/S and PS5, EA has focused on launching games across multiple generations of console. So far, we've seen the usual EA Sports titles like FIFA and Madden, core titles like Mass Effect: Legendary Edition and smaller titles like It Takes Two launch on Xbox One and PS4 alongside the newer consoles.

Next month will see the release of Battlefield 2042, which will also be a cross-gen title. As we head into 2022 though, we should start to see less cross-gen releases and more games only releasing on Xbox Series X/S and PS5, alongside PC.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Given how far off Dragon Age 4 is, I don't think many people expected it to be a cross-gen game. In 2023, the Xbox One and PS4 will be turning ten years old and developers will be looking to move on and utilise the better hardware for more ambitious games.

With Sony and other major publishers now charging an extra $10 for next-gen console versions of games, or in some cases, upgrades to the next-gen version, Ubisoft is looking to stand out a bit. The publisher began offering free upgrades from current to next-gen versions of its games last year with Watch Dogs Legion and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and that trend will continue with Far Cry 6 next month.

Anyone who buys Far Cry 6 on PS4 or Xbox One will be able to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S version without spending any extra money. Better yet, this applies to both physical and digital copies of the game.

Ubisoft first announced this move a year ago, specifically for Far Cry 6, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs Legion and Immortals Fenyx Rising. Whether or not Ubisoft will continue this with new games in 2022 still remains to be seen, although the publisher may not have many cross-gen games left at this point, as the industry is quickly shifting over to newer hardware.

Far Cry 6 is due to release on the 7th of October after multiple delays. If you want to get into the Far Cry spirit a bit earlier, then you can claim Far Cry 3 for free on PC right now.

KitGuru Says: Ubisoft would no doubt spark some backlash if it didn't stick to its original promise, but it's good to remind people, particularly with more publishers implementing a $10 upgrade fee for those jumping from last-gen to current-gen.

Earlier this year, Frontier Developments began rolling out its latest Elite Dangerous expansion on PC. Unfortunately, the game was not in a fit state at release and as a result, the upcoming console versions of the expansion have been delayed indefinitely.

In an effort to focus on fixing the PC version of Elite Dangerous Odyssey, Frontier is putting the Xbox and PlayStation versions of the expansion on hold for the time being. A new release window was not shared, so it is unclear if the expansion will still make it to consoles in 2021.

“We are aware and fully accept the frustration that many of our players have had with their experience of Elite Dangerous Odyssey, said Frontier CEO, David Braben. “The community have spoken, we have heard the feedback clearly and we will act on that feedback.”

“We have spent a lot of time discussing and re-evaluating our previous plans and we have made the decision to prioritise the core PC experience for Elite Dangerous. Ultimately, we believe it is right to focus our efforts on the core Elite Dangerous Odyssey experience for the platforms that we have released on, before opening up to more.”

Over the coming months, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will continue to receive updates on PC, which will fix on-going issues, improve performance and add new features/content. There will also be a series of monthly development updates to shed light on the process, while also discussing plans for work in progress content.

KitGuru Says: Elite Dangerous: Odyssey got off to a bad start on PC, so delaying the console release seems like the right move. Have any of you played Elite Dangerous: Odyssey on PC since launch? Have you encountered problems?

Microsoft has been investing into a great deal of new gaming technologies. While some platforms such as Stadia have failed to gain a foothold with its streaming solution, other services, such as Nvidia’s GeForce Now and Microsoft’s xCloud have seemingly succeeded. Microsoft will soon utilise this technology to allow Xbox One to stream Series X games.

In a recent post on its blog, Xbox announced that “We’re excited to see developers realize their visions in ways that only next-gen hardware will allow them to do,” however “for the millions of people who play on Xbox One consoles today, we are looking forward to sharing more about how we will bring many of these next-gen games, such as Microsoft Flight Simulator, to your console through Xbox Cloud Gaming, just like we do with mobile devices, tablets, and browsers.”

With recent confirmation that Microsoft Flight Simulator wouldn’t hit 60fps on Series X, we postulated how the planned release of the flight simulator for Xbox One would perform. It would seem that the solution for Microsoft is a cloud-based one.

Microsoft has put emphasis in the past on blurring the line between console generations, and it seems that they have opted to do so not by limiting the scope of next-gen games, but by using streaming technologies to compensate for the last-gen system’s lack of horsepower. It will be interesting to see exactly how this works, and what results will look like.

Last year, we learned that Nintendo isn’t the only company facing lawsuits over gaming controller issues – there was also a case brewing against Microsoft over Xbox One controller ‘stick drift’. Now this year, Microsoft has successfully managed to remove the case from the courtroom by compelling arbitration.

The lawsuit was filed last year on behalf of a number of Xbox users, alleging that Xbox One controllers suffer from stick drift issues due to a design flaw that was undisclosed to customers. The complaint was amended in October 2020 to add more plaintiffs and demand a jury trial.

In January, Microsoft responded to this amendment by filing a motion to compel arbitration and as a result, avoiding a jury trial. Microsoft says this is in accordance with the Services Agreement agreed to when buying an Xbox One controller, a similar clause is included in the service agreement for Xbox Live.

That brings us up to our latest update this month. As reported by VGC, the law firm behind the class-action suit, CSK&D, has confirmed that the case has now been moved to arbitration, after a judge granted Microsoft's request. What this means is that the case is unlikely to ever get a public, jury trial and the case will have to be settled privately.

The law firm is still attempting to tackle stick drift in other areas though, with active cases against Nintendo for Switch Joy-Con issues and Sony for PS5 DualSense controller issues.

Microsoft Flight Simulator released to a great deal of praise last year on the PC. The Asobo Studio-developed game was commended for its impressive scale and ambitious technology. Following its PC release, Microsoft has announced plans for a console release, with a new PEGI rating suggesting it is nearing completion.

A new posting for the PEGI games rating board has suggested that Microsoft Flight Simulator is coming to the Xbox One. Though never officially confirmed, Microsoft did previously state that they would talk about an Xbox One version of the ambitious game sometime in the future. With how technologically impressive Microsoft Flight Simulator is, it would be interesting to see how this has been translated to the Xbox One.

There is one other potential meaning for this rating however. While the Xbox One’s release is up in the air, Microsoft Flight Simulator has been confirmed to be coming to the Series X and S. it is possible that PEGI simply mislabelled the rating, adding it for Xbox One instead of the intended Series X|S.

Regardless of which system the game comes to, it will be interesting to see how Microsoft and Asobo Studio manage to translate the game’s graphics and controls for console – and just what compromises (if any) will have to be made.

Yesterday, CD Projekt Red released the patch notes for Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.2, listing hundreds of fixes all across the game. Last night, the patch officially began rolling out on all platforms, although people are having mixed results.

The patch comes in the form of a 30GB download on PC, 44GB on PS4/PS5 and 40GB on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles. After installing the patch myself last night, I started the game over again with a fresh save file and character – the good news is, the game is a lot more stable and doesn't crash on my system featuring a Core i7-8700K, 16GB of RAM and a GTX 1080 Ti, but I did notice a number of new bugs – mostly in cinematic sections from Act 1, that weren't there before. For some reason, switching to third-person camera while driving also broke for me with this patch.

Over on the Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit, there is a new megathread where others are sharing their experiences with the patch, but there are mixed results. On PS4 Pro and Xbox Series X, performance and graphics seems to have generally improved, but on base Xbox One and PS4 consoles, the frame rate is still rocky, although given how old those consoles are at this point, this is something that may never be fixed perfectly.

Others on PC with AMD Ryzen processors are reporting worse performance since installing the patch, which is something that CD Projekt Red will need to investigate for a hotfix.

Of course, while this patch squashes a lot of issues and is more stable for most users, there are still lingering problems that need to be addressed. It is a much better experience compared to launch in my experience, but there is still work to be done.

Last week, CD Projekt Red began talking about some of the changes coming in Cyberpunk 2077's next patch, including improvements to police AI, driving and keyboard bindings (PC only). Now, with the patch set to land within the next couple of days, the full patch notes have been released, revealing a lengthy list of fixes.

The patch notes include 77 gameplay fixes and tweaks, 127 quest fixes, 34 open world fixes, 83 fixes for cinematic moments during the campaign, 24 fixes for issues with environment and interaction, 37 fixes for graphics, audio and animation bugs, and a further 61 fixes for UI issues. The patch notes don't end there either, as there are also blocks of test covering stability, performance, miscellaneous errors and PC-specific and console-specific fixes.

Interestingly, the PC-specific patch notes bring good news for AMD graphics card users, as the game will finally support ray-tracing on non-Nvidia hardware. You will need to be using the latest Radeon Software drivers in order to take advantage though.

In the stability and performance section, we learn that improvements have been made to the engine and rendering engine to reduce the number of random crashes across all platforms. In addition, memory optimisations have been made, which should also help put a stop to the amount of crashes players experience.

If you're curious about something specific being fixed, then you'll be able find it in the full patch notes, HERE. Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: It looks like this patch will make the game as stable as we'd hoped it would be at launch. Of course, we've still got to see the patch in action to know for sure. Have any of you going to be diving back into Cyberpunk 2077 when this patch lands?

Microsoft has announced a new wireless headset for Xbox consoles, mobile, and PC. The Xbox Wireless Headset is set for release in March, bringing what the company calls the “future of gaming audio”.

The Xbox Wireless Headset is a competitively priced audio solution packed with features, including low latency lossless audio, and support for spatial sound technologies such as Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos, and DTS Unbound.

As per Erik Garcia, project architect and lead, the team has spent quite some time in audio testing chambers “trying to characterize and understand how the headset reproduces audio in different room environments”. Similarly, the team has also “studied gameplay to ensure great sounding chat with a sensitive mic”. This resulted in a dual beamforming microphone featuring voice isolation tuning to preferably pick your voice instead of background noise and an auto-mute feature to keep the communication channels clear. A manual mute button and LED mic indicator have also been added, allowing users to silence the mic when needed and to know when it's turned on.

The lightweight design is complemented with soft and large earcups made of PU leather and an adjustable headband with a cushion for increased comfort. Accessibility has also been considered when designing this headset, allowing users to adjust the volume through the rotating earcup dials. Durable materials are also being used, including an inner metal headband, rubberized dial rings, and a retractable microphone. Moreover, charging the headset for a mere 30 minutes delivers 4 hours of battery life. A full three-hour charge should provide 15 hours of wireless usage.

The Xbox Wireless Headset is compatible with Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 PCs using Xbox Wireless, but you can also use Bluetooth to connect to other devices. The headset settings can be customised via the Xbox Accessories App, which lets users configure the equalizer, bass boost, auto-mute sensitivity, mic monitoring, and brightness of the mic’s mute light.

The Xbox Wireless headset will be available on March 16th for £89.99$99.99/€99.99.

KitGuru says: What do you all think of the Xbox Wireless Headset? It sounds pretty good on paper, so it will be interesting to see reviews once it releases.

Back in October, we learned that Nintendo isn't the only company facing lawsuits over gaming controller issues – there was also a case brewing against Microsoft over Xbox One controller ‘stick drift'. Now, that class-action lawsuit has come to fruition, but Microsoft is hoping to keep things out of the court room.

The lawsuit was filed last year on behalf of a number of Xbox users, alleging that Xbox One controllers suffer from stick drift issues due to a design flaw that was undisclosed to customers. The complaint was amended a few months ago to add more plaintiffs and demand a jury trial.

As reported by VGC, Microsoft has responded to this amendment by filing a motion to compel arbitration and as a result, avoiding a jury trial. Microsoft says this is in accordance with the Services Agreement agreed to when buying an Xbox One controller, a similar clause is included in the service agreement for Xbox Live.

Due to these service agreements, Microsoft can argue that the plaintiffs agreed to not bring such a case to court. Whether or not a judge rules in Microsoft's favour remains to be seen.

KitGuru Says: This isn't an issue I've encountered with Xbox One controllers personally but I've known people who have been affected. Have any of you encountered stick drift issues with an Xbox One controller before?

Each month, Microsoft offers a number of classic and newer Xbox titles for free to those who are subscribed to the console manufacturer’s ‘Xbox Live Gold’ subscription service. For the month of December, subscribers can get their hands on the action-shooter Bleed 2, as well as solve mysterious murders in The Raven Remastered and more, when December’s free games go live.

December’s Xbox Games with Gold titles are:

  • The Raven Remastered: Available December 1 to 31
  • Bleed 2: Available December 16 to January 15
  • Saints Row: Gat out of Hell: Available December 1 to 15
  • Stacking: Available December 16 to 31

The Raven Remastered is a remaster of 2013’s The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief which follows “Constable Anton Jakob Zellner in 1964 London, who is on the hunt for the legendary master thief, The Raven”. The game features “Classic murder mystery locations, high quality acting, and a compelling cast of characters” all wrapped up in “a thrilling, crime story whodunit where everyone has something to hide, and the Raven is always one step ahead!” Unfortunately, the game received mixed reviews, due mostly to technical issues. That being said, fans of the genre will likely find enough to warrant a playthrough.

Bleed 2 is a fast-paced 2D action-shooter which tasks you with “[defending] the world from an invading force of villains in seven intense levels with over twenty-five boss battles,” requiring players to “Master the art of air-dodging and take down a relentless barrage of bad guys.”

Saints Row: Gat out of Hell serves as a standalone expansion to Saints Row IV which sees players sucked down to hell in “a quest to save the soul of the Boss”. The game takes the over-the-top wackiness of Saints Row IV and turns it up to 11, making for a fun game to mess around in.

Stacking is a 3rd-person puzzle adventure game which sees you play as “Charlie Blackmore, the world’s tiniest Russian stacking doll” who embarks on “an adventure to rescue his family from the nefarious industrialist, The Baron.”

All of these titles will be available to those with an Xbox Live Gold subscription as well as those who are subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this month’s offering? Has Microsoft been ignoring Games with Gold in favour of Game Pass in your opinion? Do you think the service should be absorbed into Game Pass? Let us know down below.

Though Xbox Game Pass has very much become the flagship subscription service for Microsoft’s Xbox, the console manufacturer still gifts its Xbox Live Gold subscribers with a number of free games each month. Though not as exciting perhaps as neither Game Pass nor PlayStation Plus’ offerings, subscribers in November can get their hands on Aragami, a LEGO game, and more.

For the month of November, subscribers of Xbox Live’s Gold service will receive:

The headlining title is perhaps Aragami: Shadow Edition, which sees you “play as the undead assassin with the power to control the shadows.” You can “dispatch your enemies utilizing a wide array of powers in the solo campaign, or team up with a friend in cross-platform online multiplayer as you put your stealth abilities to the test”. Aragami received mostly positive reviews from critics, though fans were less kind to the stealth-action game.

Originally released on the Xbox 360, though available via backwards compatibility, LEGO Indiana Jones sees you take control of the iconic film star (in LEGO form), as you “Build, battle, and brawl your way through all your favorite cinematic moments in the tongue-in-cheek Lego style”. LEGO Indiana Jones received a consistently positive reception from both critics and users alike.

Microsoft also recently announced which games will be coming to its Game Pass service, the exact details of which can be found HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this line-up? Is Xbox Live Gold redundant in the age of Game Pass? Which Indiana Jones film is your favourite? Let us know down below.

PUBG is finally getting a frame rate upgrade on consoles. Since its initial early access launch on Xbox One, the game has been 30 frames per second across all console platforms. Soon, that will be changing with the addition of a 60fps mode.

Framerate Priority is coming as part of the next patch on the 29th of October for Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro. This mode will render the game at 1080p and 60 frames per second. This mode will also be available for the Xbox Series X and PS5 when those consoles launch in November.

For some reason though, the Xbox Series S will not be getting the framerate priority mode, despite the system being an upgrade over the PS4 Pro and a substantial upgrade over the original Xbox One.

Bluepoint does say that it is “working to provide an option” to raise the frame rate cap on both the Xbox One S and Xbox Series S eventually.

KitGuru Says: PUBG at launch on an Xbox One X was a pretty poor experience, so it will be interesting to go back and revisit it once this patch arrives. Did any of you play much PUBG on console?

While the discussion surrounding framerates is very much an active topic among those that play video games, one other important factor which often falls under the radar (particularly in console gaming) is the notion of latency. It appears as though Microsoft is well aware of the importance of latency (or lack thereof), as they have announced that the Series X enhanced version of Gears 5 will see its latency cut by up to 57%.

On Twitter, the official Gears of War page was highlighting the improvements that the team had made for the Xbox Series X enhanced version of the third person shooter. One of the improvements highlighted by the developers was that of latency, saying “#Gears5 feels better than ever on Xbox Series X.”

According to the developers, “We’ve reduced input latency by 36% (Campaign) and 57% (Versus), delivering a profoundly more responsive experience for our players…especially when every millisecond matters.”

Alongside this, they shared some charts, showing that even with both the One X and Series X running the game at 60fps, latency was improved by a measurable degree. This improvenet is even more noticeable when playing at 120fps, which the versus mode is capable of.

Though a game’s frame rate is important for ensuring that a game feels good to control, latency is just as important – perhaps even moreso. It is therefore encouraging to see Microsoft focusing on bringing latency down by as much as possible.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.
