Google Nexus Q “small Android powered computer” unveiled

As we learnt from the earlier image leak, the Nexus Q has been shown off at Google I/O. It is a “small Android powered computer”. The device is designed for the home and for connection with the best TV and speakers in the house. The Nexus Q is controlled by Android devices but all the content is delievered by the cloud, including content from the Google Play Store.

The Nexus Q will have a TI OMAP 4460 chipset, an advanced audio experience which includes a 25w speaker. It will be connected with a dual band Wi-Fi and Ethernet and judging from the introduction video, NFC. Output will be through micro HDMI and optical audio.

Ring of LEDs around the device react to the music being played. Multiple Nexus Q units in the same household will be able to interact with eachother. It's the  “social streaming device” and friends can add music to your own library. Everyone is able to see and control the media being played on the device, which could well be a bad thing.

The Nexus Q will set you back $299 USD and will only be available in the United States at first. It will start shipping in mid-July and can be pre-ordered today from the Play Store.

KitGuru says: It would be nice to see the software on the Nexus 7 being expanded, but even as it is it's very impressive.
