Controversial DLCs for Black Flag Resynced apparently made over $1M

Ubisoft received some backlash over the launch weekend for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, not due to the quality of the game, but due to an influx of day-one cosmetic DLCs. While this may have seemed like a poor PR move to some, it ended up netting Ubisoft quite a lot of money.

According to analysis from Alinea Analytics, the cosmetic DLCs for Black Flag Resynced have already earned Ubisoft an extra $1 million, and that's just on Steam. We don't have any console sales numbers but chances are, plenty of console gamers paid for the extra skins too.

I've been playing Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced and I've got nothing but good things to say about it so far. While the sticker shock of $85 worth of DLC on day-one caused a stir, I actually went through and looked at each of the skins and honestly, they all look like they would be very out of place in-game, both for Edward Kenway and the ship. I really don't think you are missing out on anything by not having them.

As much as I would love to see microtransactions and cosmetic DLCs disappear from single-player games for good, Ubisoft isn't the only publisher doing this and unfortunately, things like this do make a significant amount of extra money for very little work.
