Cult classic Firefly to continue in new mobile game

The internet might often be considered a hateful place but there's a lot of love there too. It loves babies doing dumb things, cats and Joss Whedon's Firefly series. Unfortunately, the space-faring TV show only ran for one season and one feature length movie, with fans left with nothing to cater to their love affair since 2005. Now though, they'll be able to step back into the cockpit of the Serenity in a new mobile game, coming next year.

It's called Firefly Online and it's official, sponsored by the original creators and the Fox TV network, though the developer(s) isn't some big AAA studio, but one with a fair amount of mobile dev. experience. It's Spark Plug Games, which previously worked on Plight of the Zombie and Puzzle Quest 2. It's also working with QMX Interactive, which makes tie-in apps for movies. As Polygon reports, you'll be able to customise your ship throughout play, hire a crew and take on jobs and even communicate, meet and trade with other real life players cross-platform (since this is an Android and iOS title), though no word on whether PVP will be doable.

The only available release date for now, is Summer 2014.

KitGuru Says: I'm no massive Firefly fanboy, but I'm quite excited by this. It sounds like it'll be more about the Firefly universe though, than the original Serenity's crew. What do you guys reckon? Maybe we'll finally learn a bit more about those blue washing up gloves?
