Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 has enjoyed a positive reception overall, but its latest DLC sparked immediate backlash. The Chapter Voice Pack, released this week for around $5, was criticised for offering minimal content and inconsistent implementation. Focus Entertainment has now reversed course, making the DLC free and issuing refunds to all players who purchased it.
The Chapter Voice Pack launched as a small paid DLC containing around 450 re‑recorded voice lines and a unique Space Marine head cosmetic for several chapters, including the Blood Angels, Space Wolves and Black Templars. However, players quickly found that the re-recorded voice lines were implemented inconsistently, causing jarring audio switches. As a result, a wave of negative reviews flooded the Steam page.
To make up for it, Focus Entertainment said: “we heard your feedback regarding the Chapter Voice Pack DLC and wanted to address it. It's obvious this DLC has failed to meet your expectations, and we are sorry about that. Delivering quality content – free or not – is a priority for us”.
“This is why we've decided to offer a refund to all owners of the DLC and to make it free from now on”.
The team is currently setting up the refund via Steam, Xbox and PlayStation, so there is more information to come. Once that is all squared away, the DLC will become a free update to all owners of the base game.
KitGuru Says: A Voice Pack DLC was never going to be a very popular option, but it sounds like those that did fork out for it ultimately had a worse experience than before. Hopefully all of that can be ironed out even though the DLC is now going to be made available for free.
